The Turn Signal Stock feels solid because it has never been used.
😂😂💀💀
Rusted in place.
I’ve got the same car with 150k miles on it and everything lasted just perfectly hasn’t costed me any more than it should and yes the indicators feel like new because I don’t indicate since you don’t need to when you’re in a bmw
I didn’t get the no bmw guy uses blinkers thing u till I owned my e36. The blinkers click into place and you have to disengage them manually. Annoying to say the least so much so that I often found myself just not using them haha
My both BMW'S turn signal stalks feel the same way. Solid. I used it twice so far . Tommorrow I might use it again. Maybe..
The owner should get an award, any award would do. A golden DeMuro or something.
A BMW with over 200k miles is a unicorn in itself.
Kevin Norris I have an 05 530i that has 218k and still runs like a dream

Had one. Waited on a list for 18 months for it leading up to spring 2000. Best car I’ve ever owned. Here’s a quirk/feature to mention: Everyone who bought one in the U.S. received a 2-day driving class at BMW’s performance center in Spartanburg, SC. All expenses paid but airfare. There they gave you an M5 to use so you could learn what the car could really do from a performance perspective. It was awesome, just like the car. Always regretted selling it.
Always like to read experiences of first owners
But why did you sell it though? I would do unspeakable things for an Imolarot M5
I Recently bought an 03 E39 5-speed Manual with 105k miles n love it
@@MrPrajitura I assume he has money, so probably just did rich people things and sold it for a newer car.

20 years old, almost 211,000 miles, and it looks like it's been hermetically sealed. This owner is to be respected
Or feared.
Callum Donington both
I have a 10 year old Acura with 210,000 miles on it, and all i've done are oil changes; I can list all my maintenance records on a single page. I don't know if having a car that required this much care and feeding should be celebrated or cursed. This much documentation would probably just remind me as the owner that I had a money pit that I should have departed ways with years ago.
Jeff Faller it was most likely preventative maintenance. Refreshing bushings, refreshing the cooling system, trim pieces...etc. Mind you, every oil change, every coolant flush, every brake fluid flush, pad change, etc has been documented since 2000. These cars are rock solid , the current owner didn’t have to do 85% of the things in that binder, but he did. And that’s why Doug is reviewing this specific car.
It’s not hard to keep a car looking like new, even a regular detail can make most cars look new
That’s the most beautiful body style BMW ever produced, ever.
The newer ones are also nice
@@liamrencontre yeaaaah no
In the late 90's/early 00's, this is one of the best looking BMWs, with the E46 M3 and M3 GTR. The E38 was not as beautiful as those, but it wasn't as ugly as its successors, especially the G11/G12 with its massive front end. I would say that the E60 was also beautiful, but not as much as the E39. That beauty and the powerful, good sounding V10 engine were the only good things going for the E60.
I totally agreed
Honestly I think the f80/f82 was the best looking bimmer ever.....definitely not the best overall though
M5 E39. It looks right from every angle, it feels right, it drives right, it’s one of those cars from back in the day everything connected perfecty together, and today it’s a classic.

I own the E39, as well as modern 3 series and 1 series BMW. I can confirm E39 is the best BMW ever made. When youre inside, you feel like your piloting a space ship or an aircract cockpit. Armatronic you're 100% correct but I think it's still an anxiety-inducing car to own. I had the v8 m3 and just the thought of the rod bearings giving out gave me anxiety. I replaced them as a preventative measure and they were nowhere near needing attention. 100k miles at that point. The thought of your engine being a grenade isn't good. It's just sad the old cliche "they don't make them likes they used to" is true. The Germans could make a car that goes 500k miles no problem, but that's not good for business. Old BMWs like this one can actually last a lot of miles if maintained properly.
And because the owner is obsessively meticulous, check out E39Source, I've watched his videos for many years
Way back in 1996 I ordered an E39 (not the M) new from the factory. It took 6 months to get it, and it was the best BMW I ever owned. Fit, finish, comfort, performance, features. It was also the last, given the downward slide from there. Kudos to Nakajima the designer, BTW.

"Automatic was never even an option" Ohhhh..How times changed
With a car like this idk why you would want to drive it automatic. And btw the cupholders are only bad for american standards. Here in Germany (for whom those sized cupholders were engineered for) practically every 0.5 Liter bottle/Coffee cup fits perfectly in them.
@@CoDZockerLP i think it´s a crime to make this cars automatic ,before and this is a "before" car there weren´t available cars with powerfull engines with automatic gears it makes them unsafe and not practical to drive ,normall they would install a automatic gear box only to american market ,the more powerfull is the car the more you need to have a shifter and a clutch to control better the car because brakes at high velocities are very dangerous. Ferrari only in the 90´s they start to install automatic transmitions exclusivelly for american market it makes no sense only having brakes to control a powerfull car ,in the 70´s even the F1 cars had clutch and shifter ,now only shifter .i was thinking a powerfull car without shifter would feel like a go kart for kids ,regards
niw manual is an option
Many of today's popular performance cars are no longer offered with manual transmissions, however with up to 8 speeds, paddle shifters and manual mode, stomping on a clutch pedal isn't required to get around a racetrack or winding road course.

Fun factor: 6 out of 10.
dug pls
Doug score is getting lame
Well obviously. Compared to other sedans it’s great but you wouldn’t expect it to be as fun as a BAC Mono or something. Makes complete sense
Munshat Rahman it’s a bit interesting that Doug is like “THIS THING HAS THE MOST FUN” (i know English I swear) but it doesn’t compare to, like, a BAC Mono or something like that.
Robert Montgomery all he does is slap 6 on everything
The owner of this car, Ryan, has documented extensively how much he's done on his channel. I think he's had the car over 10 years at this point and poured countless dollars into perfecting it. Not to mention... a brand new used engine replacement at some point.
my dad owned a 2000 BMW M Roadster and His gear lever did the exact same thing, pretty neat party trick!
Early 2000s BMW's looked really sharp
Especially from the side. I've got an e46 and e36 love em
Bmw has been in decline since. This car was their peak imho.
YSG 2017 1000% they used to actually symbolize the ultimate driving machine. Now they’re a joke.
With the advent of the Bangle era, the brand lost its way.
The e32 my fav
This man is gonna make the prices sky rocket😭😭😭
Keep it lowkey man, I’m tryna save up for one😭
they been skyrocketing since 2018
Sold mine in 2018. Even though I did well on the sale, I regret that decision at least twice a week.
Been watching them for 5 years now, about two years ago prices really went up and continue to.
How much do they go for in the US ?
abode . A they start around $30k even with higher mileage. Good examples are in the high $30’s to mid $40ks.
Dougs all fascinated by door vents when they were also in E32 and E34s before these. And the same with info on the end of the stalk via the button..And rear seat vents and lighted shift knob..I could go on.
I owned an E39 for 6 years. Was such a fun car to drive. It was a money pit, but it was worth it.
In Norway we have a road called E39, across the whole country. I think it would be fun to drive an E39 on E39
Haha... and in Uzbekistan we have same type highway named M39, its like to drive m/// 39 on M39...

In Texas we have a road called I69. It's...
nice.

I have done it on my e39 540.

"The best turn signal stalk in the entire car industry"
What could be wrong?
I thought BMWs don't come with turn signals as standart?
Nic918 an they just so Good cus they never used
He's totally right. My mom has a 99 5 wagon and that turn signal stalk is incredible
Nice to know the best example of one of my favorite cars is owned by someone in my hometown. Something to be vicariously proud of.
17:17 If you actually read that warning sticker, you'll see that the HID headlights run on 25,000V. You'd better respect voltage like that, or it'll get your attention when it makes you its ground.
Damm...The owner of this car is more responsible than I ever will be with ANYTHING in my entire life.
I could cry when looking at my like dislike ratio. I have so many jealous people that my videos always get way more dislikes than likes. Please don't be jealous, dear aj
back passenger door is painted like shit to color does not match the rest of the car< so where is the care ??
then get ur life together
I can see why dude what is up with your videos I’m going to forget I even check one out disturbing
These are the most chaotic replies I've ever seen to a UA-cam comment
215,000 on the odm! Yeah he drove this car, enjoyed it, and took amazing care....respect ✊🏾
Right on Doug!! I have an awesome 2000 E39 M5 and a 1992 850i awesome also. Good Video!
My favourite BMW ever!!! Thanks Doug for this!
This is how the grill is suppose to look, not like those giant ones on the new model
Fingering Things ✔️ This was BMWs prime time. The E39 and E46 were the best imo. They were modern enough without losing BMW character. The new vehicles are nice, but they have lost the soul and character of what made BMW. The brand has diluted to make more sales to compete against the Asian marques
The super old ones were huuuge, going back to their roots
The new ones will suck in small animals and children into the engine
Finally someone who tells unshit
I like the new one. 😤
Doug: "this is one of the best looking cars ever"
Also Doug: Stying: 7 ????
Yeah... I don't get that one either.
It looks boring. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t look good
@@buhketz you must be Mercedes fan
That's why I don't even listen to his doug scores anymore
Main problem with this car is it doesn't look special -- can hardly tell its an M!
I just bought a e39 540i with the 6 speed. I’m so excited. I found it this morning and bought it in the afternoon. Complete impulse buy, so hyped
Hey doug, blessings from Linlithgow, Scotland!
When I was a kid, my uncle bought one of these back when it was brand new. His was dark green. I remember the noise and speed of it at the time was incredible to me. This video brings back great childhood memories. He also had a Ferrari F355 Spider too.
Only two of the best cars of all time
That's quite the garage. Truly a privilege to own both of those at the same time!
ShmubDub he was self-made and thankfully his success majorly took off while we were still in our childhood so we have fantastic memories thanks to him. He had 2 F40s too which he used for track days and he had a 1st gen M3 which he converted into a pure track day car.
Ryan Williams hmmmm 360 cs has entered the chat !!!
Weird flex but ok
"Only 400 horsepower" That's about 4x the power of my car lol
Same.
My car only has 178 hp lol
@@Cz007_ let me guess what do you drive, a Focus? Cause that's exactly what my Focus has lmao
@@JuniorColanzi Not even close, I drive a VW
@heasel fatches Wire me the money and I'll get a decent car lol
necropost, but loved my 1996 540i I had in Germany from 2004 to 2007. Drove to Austria, Rome, Netherlands and Rugen Island. Factory GPS was super cool, if a pain to enter (single rotary/push knob). Also, passenger rear window lifter tends to die every 18 months. But I loved driving this car on the Autobahn. Traffic dependent, could cruise at 120mph for hours.
7:20 I had a large drink spill over in my e39 because of these and had to replace that entire climate control panel 😂
I guess Coca Cola? 🤣
