Finally! Thank you Linus. Every review I have seen was about the Max was focused on how glorious the headphones itself is and sure, it is. But a headphone is only one part of the equation. Something has to stream music to it and almost all of the reviews never touch on Windows system and Android.
Finally a great review of these headphones. This is by far the best 'tech channel' review of these headphones - at least LTT understand codecs, DACS and hifi audio products far better than MKBHD et al. The Max are hifi headphones with a heap of convenience features, not tech lifestyle headphones you can review like the latest phone or laptop. Well done LTT.
I've had mine for 2 years now, I have no regret purchasing these. The ANC is fantastic, the sound clarity is awesome, the cushions and headstrap have help up perfectly (no difference to when I got them), and even with the weight - never noticed it.
I've tried my friend's pair for a few days to see if I wanted to plop down $550 on these headphones and I can say it's personally not for me. I used his old iPhone 8 plus and my Sony 1000mx4 and Bose 700 for my testing. One thing that Linus doesn't mention in this review, which is a SUPER IMPORTANT point, is that the weight of the Airpods Max is nearly double that of the 1000xm4 and 700. And this alone can affect the comfort and amount of time that you will be able to use the headphones without getting neck fatigue. The headband design helps with the way it sits on your head but it will not help with the neck problem. The earcups also clamp right at my jaw under my ear which gets real painful after about 30 minutes of usage. This problem will vary by user. I had the sliders on the headphone opened to the max to accommodate my larger head size and that could be the problem with the clamp. With Spotify or something like YT Music, the audio is fine. I do like that they don't start clipping in the higher volume ranges but when listening to higher quality music using Tidal and Plex Amp with FLAC files, there are times when the lower bit rate of AAC is apparent. Finally, the Active Noise Canceling on the Airpods Max is hands down the best I've ever heard in any headphones. Ambient mode on these are also the best out of the three headphones used. They sound completely natural and if it wasn't for the weight and the clamp, it's as if I wasn't wearing anything over my ears. The one notable exception is in high wind conditions where the noise of the wind is amplified, sometimes to uncomfortable levels.
Yeah. I love my Sony XM4 headphones I just got for Christmas. Also, I am the type of person who uses a wire pretty much no matter what, so being able to use any cheap cable on my Sonys is nice in case the Apple one was to break. Plus, the noise cancelling is better than my old Skullcandys, so I can't complain. The only thing better about those is that they have more bass, so I will keep them around for that.
I don’t understand why Apple is obligated to make their products work with the same efficiency outside the Apple product line. They’ve created their own ecosystem of tech that is tailored to those who buy into it. They’re also successfully competing with hundreds of companies in dozens of different markets to a base that is larger than any of those individually. Applications which don’t work with Apple silicon aren’t anti-consumer, they’re targeted to and integrated with a specific system. There are many ways Apple is anti-consumer but this doesn’t strike me as one of them.
@Yata Kami please dude.. Linus probably has 20 sponsors to cover the electricity bill... if you’re gonna do a headset review don’t put headphones over a beanie...
Same but only because of price and they are not as flexible with other platforms. I do like the look though and I wish some of these other manufacturers would go the more premium styling like these and the momentum 3, just something unique that doesn’t scream plastic.
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDis Obviously everyone and everything copies Apple, not like headphones from before Apple was even an idea had premium styling and didn't use plastic. Sorry that the other 3 headphones in this video are made of plastic because they want it lighter for comfort while also keeping the manufacturing costs low so that more people can buy their products. Sure, there will be companies that copy Apple, just as Apple copies other companies, and so on because capitalism keeps on working as intended. But hey, you can keep believing what you want, not my place to decide what's right or wrong in your head.

@@jj04974 Just get a phone that doesn't require a dongle to use the headphones. Same argument, but one results in being able to use the headphones they want to use, which are most likely going to be many times better than airpods. No offense to airpods, they're good for what they are, they're just not as good as half the headphones at that price or higher, and to many people, especially audiophiles, they need something better than airpods. Just because something works for you doesn't mean it works for others, so rather than tell people to "compromise," get mad at the company that doesn't allow "compromises" and only allows for users to struggle or continue buying their products, whether they like them or not. I don't care if you love Apple or hate them, everyone needs to realize that Apple doesn't make the best of the best for anything, or at least not for everything if you're really stuck in their ecosystem. Nothing Apple offers resembles a true audiophile listening experience is one example of a market they don't excel at, even if they are leaders in other parts of a similar market. These headphones are the closest they've come, but they're still closed back, lacking a good soundstage, and not neutral enough to be used for specific audio engineering tasks. Of course, most of these things don't affect the average consumer, but it's still something most companies care enough about to use USB A or C, not force you to buy proprietary items just to use devices they didn't make, or effectively limit your ability to use their devices if you're not using them with another device them made. Of course, Apple and other companies can choose to do so, but it's very anti-consumer and you can't expect people to agree with it or conform to it if they need something non-Apple to work or get the experience they want from the tech they buy.
@@FiniteCS if you’re an audiophile you don’t listen to music on your phone lol (even Tidal isn’t good enough to replace a nice setup) I get your point tho, apples ecosystem is extremely smart and as long as i hold apple stock and people keep buying everything apple tells them to, i’m happy lol

Honestly.
Just listen to the WAP show.... I mean WAN show! (For real, he goes off a lot and it's great)
Yes, especially if he were to fight against the Apple fanboys who act like they have to defend the company or else they'll lose more than the dignity they lost when they bought the Apple products! Like I wouldn't mind people who enjoy Apple products, like how I don't hate Facebook users, or users/consumers of other companies that are absolute dogsh*t with their actions, but the fact that many of them seem to put Apple on a pedestal like it's a religion or god and will attack anyone who talks about the products Apple make or decisions they do just baffles me. I feel like they're trying to start a holy war just to defend their purchases and make themselves feel better about it. Like calm down, I understand that people who hate on Apple might get aggressive at times, but you don't have to defend the company, especially when they don't give a sh*t about you. Like if you want to support Apple, no matter how horrible they are, then just continue using and buying their stuff, don't go crazy trying to poor shame, belittle, and berate those who don't use Apple products. Like seriously, I always see comment chains with this formula:
Person A: Apple = bad
Person B: You're just too poor haha, imagine using lagdroid/imagine being a samsheep/imagine not using superior tech

i loved when linus showed his true hatred for the apple products bs and they gotta calm him down
I've tried my friend's pair for a few days to see if I wanted to plop down $550 on these headphones and I can say it's personally not for me.
Man, i want to see him continue his anti-consumerism rant lmao
He has done a few on the WAN show, but I will never turn down him putting apple in their place
