I stopped sugar for four months lost 20 pounds. Started adding sugar again because I was traveling and wanted to drink coffee that would be otherwise undrinkable.
My face after one month is puffy again, I'm tired often and eat randomly because of sugar cravings. Starting my sugar free life again today. Thanks for the inspiration. It's never too late to start a life without sugar.

This is actually good, you’ve grown more aware and less ignorant as to the precise nature of sugar’s activities in the body. Use your past experiences as a vector to push you away from sugar.
I was the same, heedlessly eating sugar. I would wake up hungry in the middle of the night, could never sit down for more than 1hr without then craving something carby to eat. I found it difficult to study, exercise and even socialize without having something sweet or carby to keep me happy. Until, laying under a bright light with the taste of latex in my mouth, the dentist told me I needed a root canal. Whilst it is upsetting I needed to get to that point to give it up, it was also the best thing that happened. I can now participate in life without needing sugar/carbs as a condition to do anything.
It’s evil stuff, rotting your skin, teeth, and mind from the inside out.

I had chicken skin at the back sides of my arms (triceps area) for about 40 years (since I can remember ). - I was told it's genetic, because my father's family all had that...
about 3 years ago I decided to give up diary... - milk, cheese (soft and hard, cottage mozzarella etc), yoghurts (even greek)...
it wasn't long before I noticed during shower that my skin became smooth... I was in shock 😲 my skin has NEVER been like that ever... but now it is 😁 I do eat small amounts of hard cheese occasionally and have a greek-kind yoghurt, but still not drinking milk or eating any soft cottage-like cheese...
even the skin on my legs got better, smoother... 😲😁
ps. and milk (if you look at the label) contains a lot of sugar... milk is quite sweet if you try it after a week without drinking... you'll be shocked how sweet the milk tastes...

Sounds like the situation I was in throughout my 20's! Like Dr. Berg, I had really bad acne as a kid, throughout my twenties and even going into my thirties too (I'm currently 41). With that, my diet was far from optimal, however I was playing soccer, lifting and snowboarding on a regular basis (still do all of which!). At 20 I was put on Accutane which resulted in a very minor case of dry eyes. I then moved here to Vegas in 2006 (I was 26) and my eyes obviously got worse, along with my acne. I saw a few different Dermatologists and one suggested to put me on Accutane (again) in the fall of 2008. So, I immediately started it and it was by far the worst decision I've made in my life - Being on Accutane for the second time destroyed almost half of the oil glands in my eyes and further dried out my skin. Mind you, living in one of the driest locations in the US doesn't help either, as when I travel to the PNW, East Coast or anywhere out of the desert, I get immediate relief (especially in Seattle and Portland).
Ultimately, if I was informed that all I really needed to do was change my diet back in my twenties, I could have avoided Accutane all together and the consequences of.

Weight loss update. Started at 83kg 1st Oct and now at 76.8kg. Thank you Dr Berg x
Edit: firstly, thank you to everyone for your comments and I'll share what I did since some have asked. Before I do that, I must share that I am in my early 20s and I am doing keto to just improve my lifestyle since I was considered obese for my BMI.
    What I did:
    1. I walk every single day for 50 mins to 1 hour.
    2. I do intermittent fasting and would usually have my first meal at 2PM and my last meal at 6PM (I like to leave 4 hour gap)
    3. I don't snack and as previously stated I skip breakfast.
    4. I drink a glass of water 30 mins before each meal and I also put about a tsp of apple cider vinegar in my water.
    5. I follow a low carb diet but not strictly ketogenic.
    6. I eat plenty of vegetables and with meals I just substitute most carbs with vegetables e.g. rice with cauliflower. Lasagne sheets with zucchini etc...
    7. I exercise 4 times a week.
    8. I don't obsess over my weight because I know I have lost it.
    9. The best advice I've ever heard: get 80% of your work done before your first meal!!! Thank me later for that.
    What I've noticed...
I feel healthier, better and more confident. My body looks toned and old clothes are starting to fit. It's been a while since I've had a smile on my face. If anyone has more Qs I'll edit this xx

One of the best videos Dr. Berg has done - mind blowing! Had all but one of these issues (female) until I began a ketogenic diet. Little by little they all went away - the round "Dutch Boy" face, puffy bloodshot eyes, double chin, miserable acne - every negative trait mentioned. People think I've had plastic surgery because I look so much better now than a decade ago. (Or they think I'm lying about my age.) No, just dropped daily sugars & processed/natural carbs to 30g average total. I rarely count calories unless very hungry. Which is almost never anymore. In 2-1/2 years my weight went from 180 down to 133 & holding.
(Weight is still dropping but much more slowly now. But it's OK. As long as I'm healthy & feel & look it, very content. Just a shame that it took almost 5 decades to learn this, with Dr. Berg's help. A few other wonderful YT practitioners as well. :)

In a mirror universe (check the "many worlds theory" for time travel, or watch the AVENGERS movie) there is a Dr. Berg that is a diabetic or pre-diabetic, has a high carb/low fat diet with lots of processed foods, loves fruit drinks, bread, pasta, pizza, etc., has a puffy face due to high sodium, MSG and many other poisons put in the ingredients, and in his UA-cam channel explains exactly the opposite of what is being said here. At some moment in time there was an event that changed the course of history, but once Dr. Berg travels into his past, he meets his past self and stops that defining situation from happening, so the younger Dr. Berg keeps doing wrong things, and now the improved/"revamped" Doctor tries to recreate that event. Once the new Dr. Berg does this, he then travels back to the present and the original reality from which he left. He arrives a few minutes after embarking on the first time travel trip.

Love the piece about the blood shot eyes. Our four year old had super blood shot eyes and has struggled with bad skin issues on his legs and bottom, and I knew it was his liver. Even though we eat very "clean" we lived in a townhome where we found out we had three types of toxic mold. Since moving and giving him certain herbs/roots/fungi, and adding different foods to his diet, his eyes have become so much clearer! It's amazing how much the outside of our appearance can show about the toxic load out organ systems are dealing with. Thank you for another great video!

For years I had all the problems you describe and was very overweight. Two years ago I had a very serious illness caused by a burst appendix that had no symptoms. The resulting infections required major abdominal surgeries and many months with an iliostomy bag and healing intestines. This caused me to lose 75 pounds, but not in a healthy way, but lack of nutrition. It literally starved off. Now I am well and determined to nourish myself properly and also keep the weight off. I have been following a keto diet for 6 months and have never felt better. My newly healed gut functions like a new baby's, with no bloating, constipation or digestive problems. I feel great, I love the food, and have stayed thin. The things you describe in this video are all gone except the dry skin patches. I just turned 70 and look forward to a long, healthy life. Thank you so much for helping me understand how to have one.

Your before and after pics remind me of myself. I recently came across a photo from about 3 years ago. I was shocked. My face was so puffy. I did not look well. Then in Jan 2019 because of a yet undiagnosed health problem, I went to an acupunturist who had me quit all sugar, cut back my alcohol consumption, and go vegetarian/vegan, which I did for a year. My health problem was diagnosed later that year by a Chemical Allergy Patch test. Though I lost quite a bit of weight, I felt being vegetarian was not the healthiest thing for me. So I began healthy keto in 2020. I turn 66 in a couple of weeks, but I look much better now than I did a few years ago.

No dairy at all - just a little goat cheese now and then. Optizinc, vitamins C, D3 from Garden of Life - which is real food. I slept - all the time. And I sat outside at least an hour every day (the weather's been gorgeous) in the sun. No sunscreen - just sun. I haven't browned at all which is probably due the weakness of the winter sun - but just maintained a healthy freedom from microwaves every day for a bit.

I could barely get out of bed. Dr. thought I had a brain tumor possibly and I literally felt like I was dying. Nothing showed on testing. My body basically stopped absorbing anything. I noticed one day that my head was pretty clear in the morning until I consumed something, so I decided to just stop eating and over time with trial & error ended up on the keto diet before it was a known thing and now still working out kinks here and there, but by the grace of God completely healthy. I'm a 30 year old women. I cut out sugar and most carbs about 2 weeks ago. My skin has already cleared up, I have so much more energy, my face and body are less puffy, and I've already lost some weight (could be water weight, but who cares). Also, I can't believe how soft my skin feels! Took me ages to figure out that it was all the sugar and carbs I was eating. I only found these videos after I changed my diet, but you bet your butt it works. The first 5 days were hard mostly because of the side effects (feeling super thirsty, peeing a lot, mild insomnia, some irritability, sugar cravings), but it's worth it. Coffee got me through the worst of it :P
More benefits include not needing eye drops anymore for dry eyes. I haven't tried wearing my contacts since changing my diet but maybe I'll be able to wear them for longer now. Better concentration - I have been able to meditate daily, which has been a goal of mine for years. I don't feel like I absolutely need a nap every time after I eat. And I think my pms symptoms have been reduced although it's a bit too early to tell.
Try it for yourself, you won't regret it.

I once consulted a specialist in nutrition and he gave me this timetable with all the major food groups - and what combination works and which ones do not to reach optimal digestion. It's probably the one piece of information that changed my life, is ok to eat from all food groups as long as they are not processed, but the key is to know with what it is ok to combine them. For example, vegetables can be eaten along with all food groups, but the other ones are not to be combined unless otherwise specified. Eggs can be consumed with vegetables and it is ok with some cheese but never with meat, nuts, or legumes. I follow this timetable and my life has shifted completely.

@@gr.gr.9886 I had the same question when I was addicted to carbs and needed to consume them frequently. I thought I could never do OMAD, until following Dr. Berg's advice to address carb cravings by eating fat instead. So I made keto desserts to have on-hand. Dramatically reducing carbs means eating more fat, protein, and vegetables.
After several weeks I became "fat adapted". Which means the body becomes very satiated from consuming healthy fat foods like pastured fatty meats such as bacon and beef, also avocados, olives, cheese, cream, coconut milk and coconut cream, butter/ghee, coconut and authetic olive oils etc.
Eventually the body feels so satiated for hours that it doesn't want to eat that often and I hardly feel hungry, making it natural and easy to intermittently fast.
Sometimes I feel like eating a lot in 1 sitting over 2 hours and that becomes One Meal A Day (OMAD). Listening to how my body feels regarding hunger it may be 1 to 2 meals a day and taking opportunities for long fasts.
Letting it happen naturally worked well for me by focusing on preparing my own foods that reduced carbs.
My progress has been slow at losing 40 lbs over 3 years, but has been an effective lifestyle change and I enjoy my diet better and being hunger-free.

Initially I wasn't intermittent fasting, I was concentrating and learning about keto. Then in week 2 I began 16:8 fasting until I was able to keep pushing the fasting period further and making the eating window shorter. I can easily fast for 2 or 3 days now.
If you battle through the first week and start of by concentrating on eating keto first or maybe just reducing carbs and sugars, and then start fasting in the second week, it would be an easier transition than going straight into IF in my opinion . Dr. Berg, This has to be your best video for sure! I been noticing all the vegetable oil in just about everything, shocked that canola oil was in wheat thin cracks! I also need to start making my own salad dressing! I have enjoyed and learned something, for every one of your videos! Thanks

I like these longer videos once in a while. You’ve been balancing well between these and the quick tips and shorts.

Wow 🤩 Amazing transformation doc! 💯!! I have always been able to look at someones face and see they’re not eating/drinking well. I took a part time job at a convenience store a couple months ago, y’all, it absolutely sickening how some people eat and treat themselves. 🥺

Thanks for all that you do and the information you give, Dr. Berg. I started 2021 with a 4-day water fast (it was rough!) to kick-start my keto journey. A few months later, I did a 5-day water fast with zero issues. I learned some keto recipes and adjusted my grocery lists accordingly. I lost a lot of weight this year and am now exactly where I want to be, but that was never the point, just a happy side-effect! So many feel-good moments this year, problems that I didn't even know I had - disappearing over the weeks and months. Now that I'm comfortable with fasting and keto, next year will be more physical activity combined with healthy keto. And, of course, watching your daily videos to make sure I'm up-to-date on all your latest content! I don't know how many times I've started my coffee in the AM (with monkfruit, stevia, and a bit of cream!) and saw a video that was 100% applicable to me. Just crazy good timing, crazy good content, from a crazy good doc.

You have amazed me again. My dr got a junior to phone me regarding bad liver result and asked how much do I drink. Please note i am on approximately 30 x 4 tablets and drops ,spray, creams, gels, so my response was are you kidding i take all these things i do not drink alcohol. Now water that i drink a gallon a day. He hung up. I even thought it was not my dr's really. I was telling my dr my liver can't be fatty i only drink filtered water.
Well now i can go back and pass this video to him. To show him i am sugar burning and recent months since December 2022 i have started with juices so i am finished with them and orange cartons back to ftered water and start the Keto. Need more recipes but foods and not much choice is best for me at moment. Bless you yet again. Love Bernadette xox

Thank You. Another great, informative video. Could have substituted my face for yours as the changes were almost identical. Roundness gone. Puffiness gone. Fat under the chin gone. No longer snoring (happy wife)! And more. Started intermittent fasting/keto about two years ago. Weight 209, fairly solid. I'm 6'1" so I didn't consider myself obese, but heavier than I wanted to be, even with regular exercise. I'm now at a stable 177, nearly the weight (173) I was when I graduated from chiropractic college in 1976. People that haven't seen me in awhile compliment me on how youthful I look (nice side benefit)! Most think I'm in my early 60's. I'm 73. I still see patients three mornings a week and have a link to your UA-cam channel posted at the front desk. It says, "Just Watch It and Subscribe." You make my job a lot easier by providing such great science backed information in a format that is so accessible. Keep up the great work.
