The drummer is the son of Lead Zeppelins late drummer John Bonham. John often wore a boller hat during performances. John and Robert Plant were best friends that is why you see him cry during this performance
Robert is Jason's Godfather as well, and he'd been told by Jason that due to previous commitments he would not be able to attend. That was also John Bonham's drum kit.
Wow!! That's so awesome!! Thanks so much for adding that info on the drummer! I wondered who it was and you can see it how much it affected him playing that song!! 🤘🏻💕✌🏻🎶
The thing that impressed me most about this performance is that they obviously took great lengths to do it justice. An entire choir, half an orchestra, Jason Bonham on drums, Ann and Nancy and lets not forget the gonads on Shane Fontayne to stand out there in from of Page himself and play that solo. It also touched me on an emotional level to see them being honored in that way, with the president and half of Washington rocking out to it, after all the crap Led Zeppelin took back in the day from many a politician in Washington.
Would of been better without all the non trappings that were never part of the song. When Ann rips the vocals at the end, all the damn choir people needed to shut the hell up. Sad over kill. Zep never needed a choir of dozens, and neither did these core musicians.
Thank You! You are the only one besides me I have ever heard express amazement at the courage it took to play guitar on this when Led Zeppelin was in the audience!
Ann Wilson was 62 and her sister Nancy was 58 when they performed this tribute. Her voice has really held up. I believe you’ve reacted to them previously, when they first started in the 70’s, Alone, Barracuda, Crazy on You, These Dreams, where some of their early hits.
Hands down my biggest complaint with this rendition is that I wasn't there to witness it live! What an amazing performance, Ann Wilson is such a special talent.
I am a hard core zep fan and my eyes watered up the first time a saw this . Ann and Nancy you have joined the gods of rock n roll So much respect to you
This was a tribute to Led Zeppelin, and you can see their reaction as the shots span to them multiple times. Incredible version. Alone is my recommendation for the next one by Heart. Ann Wilson is an amazing vocalist, Nancy Wilson also sings and plays the guitar on their songs...
I once saw this video described as "Rock legends playing a cover of the most popular song of rock gods, in front of those rock gods...and nailing it" And I think that is pretty accurate.
Heart was CHOSEN to salute Led Zepplin with their most iconic song. Dude, Ann Wilson is amazing. They have so much catalog to check out, but “Black on Black” will blow you away.
Heart is an Amazing band from the 70's and we're at the height of their success all thru the 80's.. Lead singer Ann Wilson, in my opinion was/is the #1 female rock vocalist even to this day! She's got some pipes on her.. She was 62 when she did this tribute and still sounded like she did.. Absolutely killed it!! 💕♥️ I love her 🥰🔥
MrLBoyd... thanks for your reaction and response to an amazing performance of one of, if not THE MOST, iconic rock compositions ever. It seems only fitting that Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart perform the tribute. Ann recalls being heavily influenced by Zeppelin's IV album and Heart often perform Zeppelin songs during their concerts. But were surprised when asked to cover "Stairway". Ann expected something else. Maybe ROCK AND ROLL or BATTLE OF EVERMORE. But 'Stairway' is Zeppelin's anthem, almost 'holy' she recalls. With little more than 45 minutes rehearsal and trying to keep their appearance on the tribute stage a 'surprise' for the honorees (Ann bumped into John Paul Jones, I think, the night before and kind of clumsily replied 'some sort of concert'), Ann and Nancy both kinda took a deep breath and told each other to ignore the distractions and focus on the lyrics. They did. And killed.
Imagine being Led Zeppelin, sitting there knowing this will be covered and cringing. Then imagine being them and being honored by this? Absolutely the best cover of ever!!!!!
I'm listening to music over 60 years this is one of the greatest performances ever. Ann Wilson is one of the greatest singers ever and still performing. My suggestions Crazy on You, Barracuda, Alone and Never.
MrLBoyd! Lovely! Just lovely! I love this performance. Heart, Ann & Nancy Wilson sisters. They are one of my fave classic rock bands. A lot of their work was inspired by Led Zeppelin which is why they were chosen to induct them or to present them with the Kennedy Center honor/performance. I think John Bonham’s son was playing drums. Heart is classic rock, their best. And a lot of 80’s mainstream hits, but their classic days are from the 70’s. My fave is Magic Man. Barracuda, and Crazy on You , Ann’s vocals are unbelievable. The softer side even with Dog & Butterfly. Yes Other band members come & gone through 50 yrs, the core are the two sisters. Ann on vocals & Nancy is guitar & background vocals. .
Now, keep in mind, when she sang this - she was 65. Ya; there are very few singers that maintain their vocal prowess in their later years. She is one of the best.
It's been 10 years this Christmas. Ann still looks and sounds beautiful at 72. Nancy is amazing in her own way at 68. They have their 50th Anniversary as Heart next year.Ann just released a new album at the end of April. She's on tour but had to cancel the rest of June due to her band mates have covid. Ann sometimes does this song on her setlist but Heart did it almost every concert in the summer of 2019. Heart was on tour in Florida at the time
The singer is Ann Wilson, and the blond guitarist on the acoustic guitar is her sister Nancy, who can also sing! Their beautiful harmony is part of what makes this song, and others, sound so good.
This is a masterpiece of arrangement, the standard of the backup singers is extremely high, then hidden is the choir they don't appear until their vocals start, having Jason Bonham on the drums is quite special too,if you don't feel the intensity of this then you're not human!!,John,Robert and Jimmy were blown away.
Heart is considered the first female hard rock band in the late 1970s from Seattle. They had a string of major hits and many of them are posted by others below. For many Heart fans they thought that Heart was being dissed by the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame because they were still performing over 30 years and still were not inducted. Finally, thanks to their fan base, thee were inducted in 2013, which was way overdue. But no other female rock singer had the power of Ann Wilson over their career. She was like a female Tom Jones when it came to sustained power. I am sure you have heard some of their songs like Barracuda, but did not know it was Heart.
So excited to see you reacting to this. I can't believe you haven't done a reaction to Heart. Now you will definitely have to. Some great songs are Baracuda, Magic Man, Straight on (which is my favorite), and Crazy On You. Now the performance, man I have watched this performance so many times and I still get teary-eyed. I love that Robert Plant gets emotional from the performance, the choir definitely brings it to another level, and lastly that high note that Ann brings towards the end where she just shreds it. All of it is perfection.
Ok. My favorites of Heart’s most iconic songs (not in any particular order): “What About Love”, “Barracuda”, “Alone”, “These Dreams”. All super popular and successful and beautiful songs
It took great confidence and talent to do this in front of Led Zepplin themselves and they loved it you can tell by the look on their faces and to have John's son playing drums makes this epic. Ann and Nancy Wilson is also legendary.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are amazing. Ann is still considered one of the best vocalist ever. Also the drummer playing is the late led zep drummers son Jason bonham. This is a tribute concert to the band. Robert plant is Jason’s godfather and had asked him to sit with them in the audience. He declined stating “previous engagement” and then surprised them by coming out with heart to play and wearing his fathers derby hat.
can't believe you have never heard of Heart..one of the greatest rock bands ever!!..they were doing a tribute to Led Zeppelin..no other band could of done it besides Heart..
I love Heart and Zep and somehow I've never heard this. I actually teared up in the way only powerful music can. Awesome in the original meaning of the word, it evoked awe.
Heart has many amazing songs of their own. Their classic 70s hit "Barracuda" is excellent. I am partial to some of their 80s hits, such as "These Dreams" "Alone" and "Never"
You're so well known for always being able to keep your posture, i KNEW you would finally fail that this time because this is one of the most powerful covers of this song, you'll ever hear. Heart has been heavily inspired by led zeppelin, and often are described as "that other led zeppelin" or "the female Led Zeppelin" because they took so much inspiration from them. If you have not heard Heart before, you really need to check them out, what you just saw is the level Heart operates at, they are a big deal. They also paved the way for women in rock and metal, just saying, these girls are important in the world of music ;) Thnx for the reaction to this amazing tribute. You should check out the song "Barracuda", a song they wrote in anger because, i think it was a record producer or executive, tried to pass the sisters of as lovers to create controversy and make them the talk of the town, the Wilson sisters did NOT enjoy that idea and wrote a song about it to tell the man "Oh HELL NO!!". They have created many great songs, but that is a good one to start with and it has a good backstory to it as well :)
Heart is honestly one of my favorites! They are no joke! You really need to look into them, 4 decade span of top 10 albums, four Grammy nominations, 2013 Rock & Roll hall of fame inductee, their hall of fame page describes the Wilson sisters as pioneers for women in rock n roll and the 1st women to front a hard rock band. 100% agree with those telling you to look at more Heart songs!
More than just a simple cover. More than just a simple tribute to Led Zeppelin. Kennedy Center Honors honoring Led Zeppelin. You stopped the video before seeing the love and respect between the Wilsons (Ann and Nancy) and Jason Bonham to the surviving members of Led Zeppelin. This performance always gets me. It should bring you to your feet and to tears at the same time. I loved seeing the Obamas and Yo Yo Ma rocking out.
I grew up listening to Heart when they started in clubs in the Seattle area. This has been reacted to so many times and no one block the video but you.
The Kennedy Center Honors are annual honors given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. That's what those ribbons and medal around The Zep member's necks are. Honorees sit in the balcony and artists honor them with performances of their song. The death of their incredible drummer, John Bonham, ended Led Zeppelin. In this tribute, John Bonham's son Jason is playing the drums. The bowler hats are also a tribute to John, as he was known for wearing one. If you let that video play out, you will see the expressions of love from Jason and from Zep and Jason looks heavenward in recognition of his Dad. This tribute was epic.
In an interview with Eddie Trunk, Nancy Wilson confirmed that Led Zeppelin was quite satisfied with the result. According to the musician, Plant told her that he hated the song before this performance because everybody murdered it while Jimmy Page said the performance was great. Speaking about that performance, Nancy Wilson told Eddie Trunk in the interview that: “It went off really great. Afterward, the Zeppelin guys each came back individually. Jones was like, ‘Wow, you did a great job’ and Robert Plant goes, ‘Whoah, I learned to just hate that song because everybody murders it - but you did it justice. Way to go!’ And Jimmy Page goes ‘You played that great; just lovely.‘” Apart from being an instant success, Heart’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ also had another importance. Following Led Zeppelin’s disbandment, Page would not allow any other musician to sing the song as he believed that they couldn’t do the song justice. Therefore, he would let the song be played as an instrumental track. However, Page watched Heart’s performance with an approving expression and enjoyed it until the end.
I got to see Heart "up close & personal" back in the mid-70's when they came to play at the Annual Aber Day Kegger here in Missoula Montana. So wonderful even without the thousands of kegs of draft beer that went down that day. God Bless the University of Montana!!!!
Heart has a whole catalog of amazing tracks, some of them legendary in their own right, like Barracuda. They were basically shoved out of the industry because Ann Wilson (the lead singer) got heavy and the media was mad about it. Her skill and Nancy's skill however, ensured they couldn't be kept down. They're too good.
They didn't get "shoved" anywhere. They lost the rock and roll genius of the band's founders Roger Fisher (after his long time lover Nancy started screwing around with the drummer Mike Derosier) in 1979 and his brother's (Mike) guiding hand a month later. They stumbled along and then got rid of the drummer Mike Derosier and third founding member Steve Fossen. In other words - Ann and Nancy, manipulated their way into control and fired the founding and great members of the band THEY joined. Pop pablum ensued - along with hair extensions and sexy videos - and that is why people listen to the ROCK that the original band Heart put out all these years later and the generic elevator music pop ballads that came later are things long forgotten.
I had no idea Heart had covered this. Thank you. The Zeppelin original is of course one of the great classics. She's really evoking Jimmy Page. Love it.
Heart and Led Zeppelin have a very tight relationship. Ann and Nancy Wilson, covering Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" is the only instance I can think of where a cover band completely outclassed the original material. They were the only band that could have, should have, and would have accepted this invitation to perform.
I'm pretty sure they got Bonzos (LZ Drummer) song to play with Heart for this tribute, amazing. I love seeing your reactions to new music, brings me joy!
And can you imagine the pressure of performing Led Zeppelin’s greatest hit in front of them, as well as the President and First Lady and other luminaries?
In addition to the songs that others have mentioned, I’d also add “Dog and Butterfly”, and their hits from the 80s, Alone, These Dreams, What About Love, and Never. All very much in line with music at the time.
My son,at 17, played guitar in the church choir. One mass, more people went to communion than choir had songs prepared . My son with wisdom of his age, starting playing this song. Parishioners of certain age loved it,started nodding to the music. Took the priest about 5 minutes to snap to what he was playing. To say he was not amused is being conservative.

You reacted to Heart before, Barracuda from 1977.
Now check out Gretchen Wilson with Alice In Chains “Barracuda” for Heart introduction
you reacted to Heart playing their song Alone, acoustic version live, you should do the original rock video for the same song as its totally different
Heart must listens "Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You" just for a start. Heart has a very large and amazing discography.
I heartily agree. oops, no pun intended.
And that is just a start. Their catalog is deep.
One of the greatest voices in Rock and Roll history.. Ann Wilson.
He has reacted to "Barracuda" & "Alone"

@@toddstevens13 Ehh, it may of been a tad over the top, but I'd say that's a bit overly critical. I get what you're saying though.

Heart are rock goddesses, Alone is a power ballad I would suggest.
I thought this was THE most perfect, most electric version of Stairway ever performed! The absolute PINNACLE of its form!
You've listened to Heart twice previously on this channel: Alone, and Barracuda. They still have a nice catalog of songs to go through however.

Heart has been around a loooooong time. Huge in late’70’s. Magic Man, Crazy on You, Barracuda. Both sisters can sing.
Ann is LEGEND.
I think this performance was one of the most beautiful pieces of art I ever saw. Best live performance ever!
Perfection - and feeling. Original drummer and legend John Bonham´s son, playing the drums... Ann´s voice, the guitar solo... Yep, perfection!
This is the best cover of any song....EVER
If you watch Robert Plants reaction when she signs "to be a rock and not to roll" he tears up. Best compliment ever.
An iconic cover that is right up there with Joe Cockers A Little Help From My Friends at Woodstock.

I got to see Heart "up close & personal" back in the mid-70's when they came to play at the Annual Aber Day Kegger here in Missoula Montana. So wonderful even without the thousands of kegs of draft beer that went down that day. God Bless the University of Montana!!!!
I've seen Heart many times, they do a few Zeppelin covers live, a great band.
The Wilson sisters are AMAZING
OMG anything HEART!!! (TheWilson Sisters)
What About Love, Baracuda, Magic Man, These Dreams, Crazy on you. All amazing songs!
This is AMAZING! Ann Wilson is still phenomenal!!
I just adore your reaction. The arrangement was definitely unique and oh, so powerful.
I had no idea Heart had covered this. Thank you. The Zeppelin original is of course one of the great classics. She's really evoking Jimmy Page. Love it.
It'll bring tears to your eyes every time
i like to think that led zeppelin felt the way about this as we all felt the first time we heard them play it
Heart and Led Zeppelin have a very tight relationship.
This is one of my favorite live covers of all time. Heart Sisters with John Bonham on the drums is so amazing.
I LOVE watching people discover this for the first time! But I really hope you had already heard Led Zeppelin's original version.
And can you imagine the pressure of performing Led Zeppelin’s greatest hit in front of them, as well as the President and First Lady and other luminaries?
Love LZ and absolutely love their Stairway to Heaven, but this was a MASTER CLASS!
