I have to laugh at some of the comments about not being a fan of 380, blah, blah, blah. If you lived in Florida, or places where you have conceal carry law not open carry, who the hell wants to carry a big 9mm that weighs a lb and a half loaded. Screw that. A small 12 round gun that's very capable, that weighs under a lb. and fits in a pocket easily is all I need.

I agree, I've carried a .380 for a long time, long before the advancements in ammo technology. Back then, it was really Federal Hydroshock as the only real hollow point decent option. The .380 argument that it's not effective as a stopping power round can be put to rest. There are numerous .380 rounds that pass the FBI ballistic gel standards of minimum 12" of penetration and maximum of 18" that have significant wound channel diameter. This new ammo technology actually has a few .32acp passing the FBI standards.

I live in Texas and my kimber micro 9mm is perfect at 15.5 ounces, 3 ounces less than shield, 365 and other polymer pistols
My kimber with 8 9mm bullets around 18.8 ounces loaded, about 4 ounces heavier than max 380 with 11 bullets.
18 ounces loaded is very comfortable in my pocket in wrangler flex pants and summer shorts that are thigh to knee long on me, they have big pockets

@MrGriff305 I hear you. I can put the 22 lr wherever I want it, assuming it fires, isn’t that the controversy about rim fire? But yeah, I’ve been carrying g a .45, but I’m sick of having to holster it ever time I want to carry. I prefer just to put something in a pocket, ESPECIALLY in the summer!

I don't claim to be an expert, like so many of these UA-camrs, but in 12 years of carrying almost 100% of the time every day, I have learned a couple of things for MYSELF.
Rule #1- If you carry concealed, don't talk about it.
Rule #2- Make your own decisions about what you are going to carry and how, because the only thing that matters is what is comfortable for you....to carry and to shoot
Rule #3- DO NOT listen to all these so-called experts who think that going to the gun range and the gym and growing a beard and doing a gun video makes him some kind of tough guy.
There is no "best" caliber. I don't give a **** what all these UA-camrs say.
For ME personally, all I want is something that will say to the attacker "get the **** off me and away from me." Some other people might have to do this, but I personally don't plan on having to make a headshot at 30 yards or need 17 rounds for some sort of gun battle, just because some UA-camr hopped up on Red Bull thinks I should.
For all these experts who say a 380 isn't "adequate", why don't you stand in front of someone firing one and then tell me how adequate it is.

9 out of 10 times you have to draw, the bad guy RUNS AWAY. Now figure in if you fire but miss, how many more run away. Then add in the ones you hit with the first round ANYWHERE and runs away. Then add the ones you hit in the perfect spots with your 380 to stop them in their tracks. So what's left is the probability of needing an elephant gun is pretty small. Unless you live near the zoo and elephants get lose that are carrying elephant guns. Seems like so many of the youtube experts advocating huge rounds, lots of capacity live in rural america, not Chicago, St Louis, New Orleans, Baltimore, DC shooting galleries where you are surrounded by bad guys and are in a more dangerous place than Somalia. What are the stats on a self defense incident: average 3 rounds, 3 yards in 3 seconds. It's not likely to be the Desperado bar scene.

Living in Florida , carrying a Shield 2.0 for a while and then suddenly you stash this little thing in your waistband and you completely forget is there. The 12 round extended magazine is the way to go. And those mags are soo cute, there is no way you are not bringing an extra one. Now that is 25 rounds on you without breaking a sweat.
And in the pocket of some nice jeans with the holster included and my small wallet in front of it the gun disappeared.
Now I walk the dog, get the mail or go to the community pool or beach and bring this trusty companion with me. Kudos to ruger.

I've owned mine for about 8 months now. The first thing you notice about this model is just how light weight and easily concealable it is. I've put about 400 rounds through mine so far. The ammo has varied from cheap FMJ range ammo to Federal HST JHPs. No reliability or performance issues beyond an initial last round lock back problem that I corrected with a replacement magazine from Ruger. The most accurate 380 micro-compact I own is the Sig P238; it surprises me at times but I now have comparable accuracy with the LCP Max. I agree with your assessment on the single night sight. During the day at the range, the front night sight is fine. Still, the sight radius is so short on guns like this that it is better, for target acquisition under low light conditions, to have 3-dots. My primary use for 3-dot night sights on my full-size home defense guns is to quickly see the orientation of the firearm on my nightstand - so the brighter the better. Great review.

I always enjoy your presentation of reviews, so professional. I bought this gun about 4 months ago. I spent 3 days are the range learning and mastering the size and weight. I would say I put about 500 rounds through it in that time frame. No FTFs or FTEs to report. Just 1 fail to hold slide open on last round, makes me think it was more of a "user error" incident. Since then, it hasn't left my side. The "ease of carry" makes you "want to carry" it. I also own the G43X, Sig P365 and S&W 442. All great little shooters. But as much as I hate to admit it, I now have 3 nightstand guns. I do switch from time to time, but it's getting rare.

  • @rhsking05

I’m not talking smack or anything, but I just got me one of these a few days ago and immediately put 150 rounds of range ammo through it followed up with 50 rounds of Hornady’s American Gunner (90 grain, 1000’/sec, XTP) rounds, good stuff fyi, and my barrel looked like it had gone through 500+ rounds as compared to yours. The finish is almost gone on the side and worn pretty good on top and the ring is becoming pronounced at the end of the barrel.
Now I know cheaper Ruger handguns aren’t known for their finish on their barrels, but compared to yours having, what you made it sound, about 200-250 rounds and your barrel still is black and nice looking. Also, side note, I got home and cleaned it up real good and the inside of my barrel is pitted to high hell. It looked like a constellation of stars all down the barrel’s rifling. I’ve never seen such pitting, especially on a brand new firearm.
Now, I called Ruger that day and because it’s Ruger they’re sending me a slide and barrel, free of charge, to swap out my old barrel and slide. I’ve always loved Ruger and that level of customer service is a huge part of it.
I was just curious because of how nice and dark your barrel still looks after a similar amount of rounds at the range.
    Nice video.

The trigger is smooth and intuitive. 6-8 rounds. Its a snappy little beast, but fun at the range and very accurate. If you see one around TCCC check it out. Its a great little gun.

I have an LCP 2. I actually traded my Glock 42 for it. 42 was a good gun, but mine lacked that "perfection" as it choked on a number of hollow points, even after it was sent back to Glock. My LCP 2 was also sent back to Ruger after it spit the extractor out at the range after about 100 rounds. Ruger was great though, as they sent it back with a whole new slide. Hats off to their customer service.
For me, the 42 is too big of a gun for what it is. It shoots nice, but for the size, I'll take a Sig p365 any day with the larger 9mm.
I like my Ruger Lcp 2, but I'll be upgrading soon to the Max.

I have a G42 and it just sits. Mine runs fine for me, but my wife turns it into a jamomatic, yet she can shoot my Kahr CW380, LCPII, Bersa Thunder no problem. To me, the G42 is in no mans land, too big as a pocket gun and if I'm going to IWB carry I'll carry the SIG365 or Kahr CM9. The Kahr CM9 uses the same holster as the G42. I just purchased the LCP Max but haven't shot it yet.

Just picked one up for myself yesterday. One thing to note on your comparison that a lot of people don’t point out. Is, the distance from the grip to the trigger face. Makes a huge difference on any gun, especially on the tiny guns. Makes your trigger finger angle change. With the Glock your finger is really “gimped up” on a severe 90* angel. Where the Ruger let’s your trigger finger “stretch out” more. Makes it way more ergonomic and comfortable to shoot. And arguably allows you to be more accurate.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a LCP Max soon because they are 1/2 the weight and much smaller than the Glock to carry and much improved over my original generation 1. I have a pistol collection that has satisfied me pretty well for the past 10 years and didn't desire any larger frames or calibers, so I can seriously see where a near future LCP Max purchase would surely satisfy all my current wants and keep me happy for quite some time to come.

    • @TheWilferch
      @TheWilferch 2 роки тому +4

It's actually more single action than double action. Look at the hammer through the open port on the backside. When the slide "cocks" the hammer....it is about 90-95% cocked. When you pull the trigger.....the hammer rocks "back" a "smidge"....let's say another 5-10% before it releases to fire the gun. I think this is intentional to get a lot of spring pressure on the hammer/sear engagement surfaces, and by needing to rock back further before it fires....makes it a bit more safe against an accidental discharge. Realize too.....that it has a half-cock safety notch to arrest the forward motion of the hammer if ( for whatever reason) the hammer slips off the sear, when the trigger isn't pulled.

I just bought the gun a couple weeks ago and I ordered Truglow Pro tritium front and rear sights, as the stock blacked out stock sight hides the front sight. I also bought the Sticky pocket holster and Traction rubber grip. My only other complaints about the LCP Max is the twanging noise that the trigger makes when dry firing, how do you correct it? I also bought two 12 round magazines and baffled why the slide doesn’t always stay open on a empty magazine and it also does it with the stock 10 round magazine.

I've gone through the night sight thing, throwing Trijicon HD's on everything, but past it now. They're perishable over a relatively short period of years and if it's dark enough at civilian defensive shooting distance instances, you're better off with a laser, which is more instinctive, especially in a rapid compromised shooting stance. No lasers yet for the MAX, always think it's best to wait a year to let others Beta test the 1st Gen issues and let the aftermarket catch up.

What I would like to know is how the Max compares un recoil with the Glock 42. I don't expect the Max to he milder than G42, but if it is close enough for a G42 owner to consider the Max.
As for the Gear sight, you can paint two dots with glow in the dark sight paint, or replace with a rear night sight. I heard that S&W Bodyguard sights fit the Max. Not sure, but that's what I heard.

    • @TheConcealedCarryChannel

    • @Boris_Taran

It is!!! Bodyguard sights are good for LCP MAX.
I extended G42 mag for +1, and compared to LCP MAX with an original 12 rounds mag. Recoil, BY POWER, is, practically, the same. But, FEELING is much better on G42, because line of symmetry of the barrel of G42 is for about quarter of inch closer to the point, in which your hand supports gun under slides in the area of back sights, than on LCP MAX, which means: lever of recoil on LCP MAX is for about quarter of inch longer, with all consequences for recoil's feeling.

    • @Boris_Taran
      @Boris_Taran 2 роки тому +1

      @@Pler1978
I don't understand exactly, what you mean, but, bore of G42, just as well, as bore of ANY OTHER Glock, can withstand "+P" type ammo, while "Ruger LCP Max" can use regular ammo, only
      (not "+P" and,
      off course, not "+P+").
Plus: I installed on my "Ruger LCP Max" "ArmaLaser", type "TR12"( modeled for "Ruger LCP 2"). I just trimmed little bit frame and guard around trigger of LCP MAX.
OFF COURSE, 12-rounds mag gives HUGE(!!!) benefit for comfortable and SURE shooting.
By the way, I have never feed 12-round mag with 12 cartridges. My way is: 11 in the mag and 1 in the barrel.
Plus: I bough liquid, called "Super Blue" from
"Birchwood Casey". Then, I used hi grit file to take out all ribs from slides, and from sights, including very thin job for tront sight. Then, I used this liquid to restore blue (real blue, which give not color, only, but, also, corrosion resistance properties).
After that, now, I can carry it, with "TR12" laser sights, and with 12-rounds mag, in the front/side pocket of my jeans WITHOUT HOLSTER, AT ALL, and without any chance to damage my pocket by gun. I just found out the RIGHT way to grab it, while inside of my pocket. And, it slides out of my pocket easily, without any catching of the top of my pocket, as it was complained about, by one of guys, who wrote about this problem, happened to him.
Hope, I gave you some helpful information, if even I don't understand exactly meaning of your question.
      Good luck, man.
      P.S.
I hope, you are righty. So, keep gun in your right pocket, and keep your cell.ph. on the left side of your belt.
For me it is even easier, because I am lefty. So, I keep gun in my left pocket, and I keep pouch with my phone, just as I use to it: on the right side of my belt. And, I can keep spare mag in the right pocket (opposite to gun), which makes weight of gun with full mag just the same, as weight of my phone plus spare mag
      -TOTAL BALANCE !!!
      Again, good luck!!!

It would be better if Ruger kept the Ruger holster and included the extended magazine for the pinky, replaced the weak recoil spring with a stronger recoil spring that is captive, replaced the slide release pin that requires a tool with a slide release lever, replaced the conventional rifling with a hammer forged polygonal barrel and made it high-qualty rather than mid-grade quality based on all the shooters who have had issues shooting this new Max, including functioning of the slide stop, accuracy due to the slide and/or barrel, magazine base plate popping off, fininky with certain ammo and other concerns that affects reliability, quality and value. Personally, I would wait until Ruger works all of the quality-control issues and continues to makes more improvements to their Max or other name brand manufactures jump on the micro 380 double stack bandwagon.

I also have both the Max and G42. I think the Max is still too big for pocket carry, even in my relaxed jeans. The extra grip length compared to the LCP 2 makes a difference in the pocket, and the butt really sticks out. It would still make for a more comfy iwb carry because of the weight. I did try putting it inside the pocket, but leaving the grip barely hanging out the top of the pocket. That would be doable for me, but need a long enough shirt to cover it. There is barely any difference in size between the two, almost identical, except for the slide length which is only maybe 1/2 to 3/4” difference.
