If somehow anybody can pass the message along to olivia, go to the doctor girl! I hear you're broke, even if your parents are offering you support are you still on their health insurance?? I didn't get diagnosed with EDS until I was 30 years old -- being exhausted on a 36-hour a week work schedule, the way you talk about grocery shopping being draining or having to meal prep and the way that those things are exhausting to you, it seriously sounds like you might have a medical condition that's going undiagnosed. Unfortunately for women it can be very hard to get a doctor to listen to you and take you seriously but ask about eds, get your thyroid tested, look into the kinds of disorders that can cause chronic fatigue, etc because if it's treatable you might have an opportunity to catch something that you could suffer with for years, if it's not treatable you could at least mitigate the problems and steer yourself into a career that you will be able to sustain. I wish you luck, I'm not hearing laziness when I hear you describe your situation. I'm hearing underlying condition that's going overlooked. I'm not a doctor, I could be wrong, look into it and if there isn't something diagnosable it might just be a matter of lifestyle changes that you need to make. Even if you look healthy, you might really need just some basic lifestyle changes like drinking more water, eating more vegetables, it sounds really pedantic but when you put it into practice it's not. Best of luck girl!

I’m sure she can’t read all the comments but suggestions I’d have for her:
    1) look into getting a roommate
    2) new job that pays more
    3) she obviously likes dogs - dog walking/sitting is so lucrative and it doesn’t feel like work. It also is something you can do when you have time to do it (very flexible)
    4) take some free online career assessments. You seem like you just don’t have a clear direction of what you wanna do/where you wanna go right now. Once you figure that out I think it would help you a lot.
Wishing you the best. You have so much potential and your whole life ahead of you!

I think her feeling exhausted is due to lack of motivation & feeling like her work won’t have real meaning or purpose. As a Dutch person, the idea of working two fulltime jobs is crazy to me. We are literally not allowed to work more than 55 hours a week for longer periods, with a max of 12 hour per day. If we do work more, our employers would be fined. And even if possible, everyone would call you crazy for doing so and bet that you'll have a burnout in no time. With the way our taxes work, it's sometimes more cost efficient to work less hours. I feel bad that in the US working two full time jobs is normalised/glamourised. Take care of yourself

Yeah, I got really annoyed he kept on telling her off for working 36h. Full-Time here in Germany is usually around 40h, with higher skill work often being lower (35-38h is quite common). The legal limit is 10h per day and you can’t work 10h every day for extended periods of time otherwise you’re employer will get in trouble (this includes working a second job, which is why you have to tell you’re primary employer if you want to work a second job).
In my mind part-time only starts once you work less then 5 days or get multiple half-days off per week. 36h is 7.2h five days a week, add a 30min break and you’re at almost 8h. That’s a third of the day plus commute time, that’s a regular full-time job. Getting more income should come from finding a better job, not from finding an additional one.

    • @Aardvark8

I think the disconnect is that he wouldn’t tell a person who hadn’t dug themselves into a hole to work crazy hours. He tells people who have crazy amounts of debt to make money however they have to get back on track. Once they are back on track they can work less hours, change jobs, or chase their dreams. It is a trade off, do you want to be in stupid debt until you die or do you want to work an extra job for a while and be debt free to do whatever you want for the rest of your life, it’s about choices.

Imma translate what I think Caleb is trying to say about the feelings/mental health stuff: Feelings are real and are totally okay to feel, but sometimes those feelings need to take a back seat to your needs and responsibilities.

I agree. I will also add that life comes with negative feelings and they are a normal part of life but for some reason we are being told that we shouldn’t feel them. These feelings help guide us as well. I compare them to physical pain. For example, if my hand is being burned on a hot surface, pain will redirect my actions to reduce or avoid further harm. Of course I am not talking about diagnosed mental illness. That is something I am in no way qualified to comment on.

Major things that can impact energy that she might want to see a professional for:
    * depression as a lot of people pointed out
    * health conditions (food intolerances or allergies, autoimmune related conditions) which can also impact mood, motivation, and concentration. If you’re physically unwell, your body is NOT going to be emotionally or physically up for adding more strain to everyday.
I was tired alllll the time in my twenties with major brain fog and fatigue. I felt like a failure of a person because I didn’t seem to have the energy of my peers. Found out I had food allergies in my early twenties and then later multiple autoimmune conditions.
It’s not always laziness or a lack of drive. Some of us are battling invisible struggles.
Also, it hurt to hear Caleb say “You’re young and thin.” I heard that a ton alongside “Well, you look healthy.” Tell that to my bloodwork.

    36 hours a week?!
Lemme walk you through my day. I drive a freezer truck for a frozen pizza distributor. I get up at 2am(1:45am on fridays) so I can get to my truck by 3-3:30am, so I can get to my first delivery by 5am(4am on fridays). I'll finish my route between 11am and 1pm, depends on the day, and then I have an hour+ drive back to park the truck, then an hour drive home. Bed by 6pm so I can do it all again the next day. All the while, I listen to Caleb yelling at people about needs vs. wants.
