Education systems just don’t seem to be able to teach the young and the old the good basic principles shared on these videos. Many thanks for the content.❤
I'm currently in a similar situation in terms of the wedding, (took out a personal loan to fund it) and I've been regretting starting the whole process. I don't regret my choice of marrying my fiancee, but just the whole wedding ceremony. It's insane how expensive and honestly predatory with how many expectations society puts on us and how conditioned girls are to have amazing fairy tale weddings since they are young. We have a solid plan to get everything taken care of, but it is definitely setting us back a couple of years in terms of retirement etc.
@Michael Olbrys just do NOT have kids right away whatever you do, if yo u want them, I never had children, but create a solid foundation on all levels first & you'll be OK in later years. Course, my ex bailed by phone & I waited til my mid-40s to get married, so it's never guaranteed.
First time I've seen someone on this channel score themselves a 2/10 and Caleb also score them the same at the end. Hope Juan makes it - he's what America is all about!
He started off by owning his own mistakes and ignorance. Plus, all the hoops he’s had to jump through with immigration, administration, emotionally,… I’m rooting for them ❤
I got married in a living room with 20 people there. My dress was $75 off the rack. I am just as married (and for longer! ) than anyone else. Spent less than $500 total.
I was married in December, 1976. I was in the Air Force, and wore my uniform. My bride wore a $99 dress, off the rack at Sears. Ring was $49, for a 0.02 carat diamond. You could barely see it. My mother-in-law made a beautiful cake, and we were married in their living room. I paid $20 for a US Air Force Reserve Chaplain...Chaplain Willenbring. The ENTIRE wedding cost us $168, and we have been married now for 46+ years. This is about $3.60 per year of marriage. I would like to get it down to $3 a year..this will happen in 2033.

Rooting for Juan and his wife. I’d rather be in debt here than anything in Venezuela. I hope they are granted asylum and can officially start a new life.
This guy is really intelligent, I am sure he will get out of this extremely quickly. With what he's gone through in his life this will be nothing to him. Goodluck!
Immigration isn't cheap or free. My wife came here 3 years ago as a nurse with a green card, and the processing fee's we still owe to her Aunt(who runs an agency) and its around 8k. Luckily, her Aunt isn't rushing or pushing for the payment otherwise we would be in the same point. She never needed to get a immigration lawyers or anything like that as well, which is fortunate. I was born and raise her in the US, so I never understood how expensive and cumbersome the immigration process was until I met her. On a side note: for those non-religious: The Church wedding is what start life as a married couple for Catholics. Without a church wedding, catholics are not considering married because its not recognized in the church. While it makes no financial sense, from a religious sense having a church wedding gives them the peace of mind to know they are truly married. I will note, they could have had a simple church wedding with a simple reception, so not making excuses for him going into debt for it. ***Please do not attack me or debate religion with me, I did not mentioned this to start a religious debate just putting some context is all as a catholic myself***.
@@anthonylozano8035 yes, not defending him bc he could have kept the wedding to something minimal and to what they could afford. Just understand possible why he had to have a church wedding(not sure how religious he is or he real reason, just guessing).
Juan seems like a pretty normal guy in his situation, it can be very hard to make it when you're swimming up stream. But he has a lot of potential to reverse his fortunes if he makes the right moves. You can do it Juan!
These videos you make are incredible, I have a suggestion that you could have a giant whiteboard where you draw the person and you write down everything they have (cash, assets), their income, and then you write down all their debts (car loan, credit card debt, mortgage) and then there monthly budget. This could allow anyone you help to visualize their entire situation very clearly.
Oh man. I got married a couple years ago and it was no joke. Thankfully we got some help, I was prepared to take out $0 in debt for what was basically a giant party. A very fun party, but a party.
The Catholic Church does not charge for wedding ceremonies. (Although it’s customary to pay the clergy a small stipend of $20 a pop.) There is no reason to spend $15,000 on a wedding!
Massive respect for this guy. Graduating one year earlier in a foreign country, in another language, from a politically unstable place to two wildly liberal countries (UK and US). He's going to be fine.

1 piece of recommendation from another Venezuelan dealing with "anything could change at any point" - open now a Roth IRA with $100. For now, contribute only what is matched in the 401k, once you are out of debt, start throwing money to the Roth IRA first, instead of maxing the 401K. In the future if anything happens, you can move the money into the Roth and eventually take it out with a little more flexibility. Also, close the Amex Gold, you don't need the fees of that card that incentives you to spend with a restricted budget.
Really liked the new score breakdown!!! The evolution of your content is excellent, just started watching and there is so much value in what you do. Thanks from up in Canada, Caleb!
I will never understand crazy wedding spending. Save that money. Put it towards a home. Just don't burn it on a marriage that (statistically) won't last.
Lifestyle creep and family boundaries. Great breakdown salute to him overcoming the struggles with his home country and journey here. Stick to your budget people
A decent traditional "church wedding" can be had for less than $1,000, and even that is largely "suggested donations" that could be waived for couples in financial hardship. Just like non-church weddings, most of the expense comes from the decidedly unnecessary buying/renting of expensive clothes and throwing a huge, lavish party afterward. $15,000 is a good price for a big wedding with hundreds of people, but a bad price for a small wedding with a few dozen.
Great vid again - This guy and his wife will absolutely be fine and have a great life an future, all the best to them. A little point of constructive criticism Caleb - I get you do it to help people and for entertainment but there is something off about telling some people that they are “behind” and this was a perfect example. These guys literally had to claim asylum and leave a life behind, I’m not sure you can apply some arbitrary time milestones to them.
Maybe not the time line, but the point about the advice sometimes being arbitrary is true. Investing is the best way to save for most people but not all. They traded debt to get into the country, seems like a fair trade to me. What next, telling people who have escaped wars from poverty stricten countries that they have missed the best decade for compound growth and that they should grow up and not buy Netflix? Dude above was right, its really good advice and some people need it delivered harshly but this was tone deaf

You don't have to form an LLC or Corp for a business checking account, in Florida you have to file a DBA or doing business as form for a sole proprietorship which costs 50$ and 30 $ for a certified copy of it, you can then open a business checking.
As a fellow Venezuelan who moved here and navigated some of the same things, I feel for Juan and I am also so incredibly proud of him and what he has been able to accomplish. I think Caleb unintentionally was a little harsh as he doesn’t understand Venezuelan culture, but fair. Juan if you need anything - reach out mi pana!
@@pabloescobarschanclas I don’t want to generalize, but social meals is a huge part of who we are as a culture. In Venezuela most families and/or friends try to get together every so often and usually it all revolves around a meal. It becomes almost a tradition. Sunday family bbqs, brunch with friends, etc. we are very social people and our social interactions usually revolve around food. When you are in the process of migrating, sometimes you need a familiar feel or even a sense of normalcy during the adjustment period (for him and his wife it seems like brunch) and it is a huge cultural shock to move from a country where most things are scarce versus one that has plenty of choices. I am not condoning the behaviors, I am just articulating that there is a very different lens as someone who immigrated versus someone born and raised here.
My family was in his shoes--war refugees. Dad was 48 with 8 kids when he got to the USA. Good to see Juan is slowly digging himself out of a difficult position. But he is lucky, because he is unencumbered by obligations like children. And he is very well educated. My family ultimately did very well and my parents got all the trappings of American success. But to do that, you can't lose focus: You have to be incredibly disciplined and very strategic.
This episode made me wonder if we’ll ever see someone in dept that was 100% justifiable and Caleb won’t even be able to get mad at the person for getting into debt.

Seems like this is gonna be a good one! Thanks for not having the same people/situation always on! CALEB TO THE MOON 🚀
Caleb, please come up with your own financial app so I can hear notifications of you yelling at me when I make poor financial choices.
This would be awesome, have it pop up every time you purchase something making you justify the purchase.
Gets McDonald’s

You: yes

Caleb at 22:00, he doesn’t have Amazon Prime, that was PRIMERICA a MLM insurance company… 😢
Yep nothing like pyramid scheme life insurance to take advantage of immigrants.
this one hits me the moat out of any of calebs video’s i’ve seen. juan is such a hard worker and fighter from all the stuff he’s dealt with in venezuela, to going thru immigration, to going to college while having multiple side hustles. respect🙏🙏
I can't imagine how stressful this guy's situation must have been/continues to be. Props to him for keeping his head up. He should be proud of making it this far! I know he'll get it together once he has the time to get on his feet.
Stressful? Not even close homie is making more then your average US citizen 😂😂 there is thousands of illegals asking for asylum just so they can stay in the US. How manny illegals do you know who are making over $100,000 off the jump. 🤷🏾♂️ Something doesn’t seem right but I’ll be quiet. 🤫 AND now he has debt. Hahaha true American.
Deport him 😊
Shout out to Juan and his family because the immigration process is so long and grueling and they have come so far . I really hope he’ll be able to obtain citizenship so he can have more opportunities to thrive . Rooting for Juan and my fellow immigrants ❤
Damn what are the chances, my parents and I immigrated from Venezuela in 04 and moved to Palm Bay in 07. Started as an asylee as well, best of luck to the dude. It’s a long process but as long as you follow all the rules it’s straight forward to get your permit/citizenship.
Thank you, paisano!
This guy is such a trooper though. I love his tenacity in getting his education and using it effectively
Caleb, please do some research into Primerica, and contact Juan with an update. It is an MLM.
Yep, my cousin got roped into working for them. Didn't turn out.
Yea plsssss Caleb
@@TheVikingblonde they came to my school and I heard they were a risky company.
Rooting for Juan! Just helped a family member through the immigration process - a pain and I can relate. Juan and his family will have an amazing future! Welcome to the US!
Watching here from the UK. Can honestly say the education and awareness shared on this channel is excellent.. there are many people around the world that need a wake up call to the life long issues associated with poor money management.
I have made it up to her, since.
So good yield to investment ratio? 😊
caleb on the road to one million let’s go!!! so proud of you bud, all the effort and attention really shows. you’ve also been helping me a ton without knowing. had no concept or urgency with personal finance until watching you and i’m finally getting my stuff together, may even get to retire in my 60s thanks to you!! keep it up 💕🥳
I LOOOOOVED the graphics and visual explanation of this one!
Really respect this guy for coming on the show, best of luck to you, Juan
Hey Caleb (or the editor), at the end of the video on mobile when he is giving the score, it can’t be seen because the video end cards cover up most of the screen. You may want to do something a little different so we can see the scores 👍🏼 Loving the content
Rooting for Juan and his wife. I’d rather be in debt here than anything in Venezuela. I hope they are granted asylum and can officially start a new life.
That's not the "well wish" that you think it is.
Just a heads up! The “prime” on that one card wasn’t Amazon prime, it was “primerica” which he said was his life policy.
The grit and determination of this dude is admirable. Respect.
This guy is really intelligent, I am sure he will get out of this extremely quickly. With what he's gone through in his life this will be nothing to him. Goodluck!
I desperately want an episode where Juan comes back after a year or so and gives us an update. I'M excited for their future!
Happy Friday, hope you guys have been crushing it in your financial goals!
Catholic here. Had a wedding for 1500 dollars. Not 15000. Same in the eyes of God
@@anthonylozano8035 yes, not defending him bc he could have kept the wedding to something minimal and to what they could afford. Just understand possible why he had to have a church wedding(not sure how religious he is or he real reason, just guessing).
Caleb please start numbering your videos: it's so difficult to search them across platforms. Awesome video as always!
Love from the UK. 🇬🇧
Been in the US for 3 years and is making 135k… my mom has been here 24 years and never broke 60k. PROPS FOR REPRESENTING FROM THE BAY!
He should get a new life insurance that isn't an MLM company that loves to take advantage of people immigrating to the U.S.
Massive respect for this guy. Graduating one year earlier in a foreign country, in another language, from a politically unstable place to two wildly liberal countries (UK and US). He's going to be fine.
Saving this listen for my drive to Houston to see the Eras tour! Caleb, thanks for the consistent content!
Hearing his situation he has faced makes me realize that I take things for granted. Things suck here generally speaking but thankful I didn't have to face things he has. I couldn't even imagine
Really enjoyed this one! Good luck to him and his bride!
Caleb, show getting on a phone call with them and their creditors/lenders to teach them how to negotiate a settlement and negotiate down their credit card interest.
I think he is doing well and seems like he will make great progress on what he is already doing.
3:38 i love you for putting maps. I know so many ppl who have no idea where countries are especially in the 🇺🇸 it’s so shocking to me sometimes. I’m actually doing the same as him getting my masters in the UK next year✈️
Full faith he will do this. He’s overcome a lot, this will be just a speed bump!
Just an observation: you speak very quickly, Caleb, especially when you are animated by emotion. Maybe slow it down a bit, especially for interviewees whose first language is not English. Keep up the good work! Signed, a new retiree figuring out how to live on SS so I don’t draw down my retirement funds. 😊
Yes, please speak more slowly and clearly for non-native English speakers though Juan is extremely proficient. Great job Caleb!
Thank you for making these videos. I'm 30 and I got really lucky with finances. My grandfather and father taught me everything.
Nothing in middle or highschool was explained ever, there isn't real good advice out there until the last few years. People you do business with make it seem good where as it's a bank or anywhere. You're totally unbiased and that's extremely hard to find these days
Dude you are producing content nonstop
Hey, Caleb! I love your content and I’m always watching your videos on my downtime. I want to thank you for always emphasizing therapy and improving mental health on a daily basis with multiple videos. As a current student, majoring in psychology with a specialization in clinical/counseling psych (hoping to achieve my dream of being a therapist after I finish my masters degree), I’m always on board with improving mental health and getting the help individuals need on a daily basis. Thank you for bringing light to such a taboo topic.❤️
Yes my daily does of Financial Audit! Thank you for the interview :)
As an Inmigrant myself I can say it's not easy coming here with no family, no credit history or job history. Now I'm on a way better position making 6 figures. You got this Juan ✌from a fellow Latin American.
Another Brevard resident! Wishing you luck, Juan. Would love to hang with you and the wife to help expand the friend group.
Like Caleb exposed, you can find me at the cigar lounge in Downtown Melbourne 😂❤ open to making new friends, always! Thank you!!
So typical of the UK government to kick this guy out when he could have been a positive impact on the country and economy
Because they get to splurge money they dont have in front of all their friends and family to "impress" them
Yes its insanely dumb
@@Dre2Dee2 Bro facts my cousin had his wedding in Cancun 4 years ago, they got divorced last year. The wedding was at least 20k😂😂
I have to say this is one of the most interesting episodes ever!!
My wife's family is from Colombia so they fled back in the late 80s. Hope everything works out for you!
Lifestyle creep and family boundaries. Great breakdown salute to him overcoming the struggles with his home country and journey here. Stick to your budget people
Great guy, he'll do amazing in life!
Just keep going and you'll get through this!
Que felicidad ver a un compatriota venezolano!
love when Caleb starts reading off the expenses!
That’s great and all, but the hardships they endured don’t extend their life or time until retirement, which is not an arbitrary timeline.
As someone working in the Jewelry industry I can tell you that those mall jewelers like Kay and Zales sell terrible quality stones. Every kiss begins with Krap
Good Luck Juan, you sound like a remarkable young man. 😊
Hey Caleb, at the end of your video your Hammer Financial Scores are covered by recommended videos on screen. We can hear you say them but just wanted to let you know. Can you put those more on top? Thanks for all you do!
You don't have to form an LLC or Corp for a business checking account, in Florida you have to file a DBA or doing business as form for a sole proprietorship which costs 50$ and 30 $ for a certified copy of it, you can then open a business checking.
Great guy! Hope nothing but the best for him and his wife ❤
We're rooting for you, Juan!
Caleb chewing him out over a "Prime" charge when it says "Primeamerica"....lol. That was his life insurance
he should still yell because primeamerica is terrible
As a fellow Venezuelan who moved here and navigated some of the same things, I feel for Juan and I am also so incredibly proud of him and what he has been able to accomplish. I think Caleb unintentionally was a little harsh as he doesn’t understand Venezuelan culture, but fair.
Juan if you need anything - reach out mi pana!
Thank you mi pana!
what does culture have to do with not being irresponsible with your money
Another Caleb Hammer is exactly what I needed now. Thanks
Stop taking out massive consumer debt! Save Caleb’s blood pressure! 😂
This episode made me wonder if we’ll ever see someone in dept that was 100% justifiable and Caleb won’t even be able to get mad at the person for getting into debt.
Awesome content Caleb you’ve helped my family so much and I look forward to all of your videos 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Caleb, please start adding a UI overlay that keeps track of the assets vs liabilities as you go through the analysis. Would be a massive improvement for the viewer to follow along.
@Caleb, near the end of your new videeos the hammer financial score sub-categories get covered by your pictures and video boxes. Can the pictures and video boxes go to the top of the screen or could your hammer financial score numbers be across the top? Some way that would allow us to see the numbers rather than have them all get covered up by other videos. That would be great. Love your content!
Rooting for him!! Caleb, you videos get better each time!
The graphics game has improved tremendously! lets go! Good video
