I wanted to quit my job, but was looking for another one before I did that. My friend kept telling me to quit because "the universe would catch me." I was so confused by what she was talking about and ignored her. A few months later, she asked me if my parents had ever threatened to cut me off. I was confused, "cut me off from what?" That's when I learned her parents paid her rent every month. We are 38 years old. I have covered all of my own expenses since I moved out at 19. "The universe" was her upper middle class parents.
The amount of financial privilege she was born into and squandered it. So many young adults including myself never got financial support or money for college.
Yeah if anything the reverse of that is way closer to "financial independence". At that point it would be "I'm surviving on my own but they buy me nice things." Neither is financially independent but in one of those situations you can at least survive if they stop paying for things. In the other your existence is dependent on them and you're just making fun money. Basically the way most middle class high schoolers exist (having rent and food covered but having a part time job to pay for movies and dates and fast food).
Such a reoccurring theme these days. "hell yeah girlboss I'm independent 100 emoji" *has someone else paying all their bills and couldn't survive on their own*
At 33 got divorced, 420 credit score, 0 retirement , 40k in debt. lived paycheck to paycheck for 6 years, been at a blue collar job past 18 months, managed to get 40k in 401k since start, average 55 hours a week, paid off 2023 Camry in a years time, have a 4 month nest egg, zero debt. And it's not his fault because he doesn't know until they get there what they're truly going to be like but I can only sit through so many of those screwball, dramatic, self involved, self righteous, entitled cooks before I just can't watch anymore. 😂😂
I'm caught between wanting to see a video that is more close to my specific situation so I can get helpful feedback, and wanting to see fucking train wrecks who have no intention of getting fixed. Angry Caleb is fun sometimes

Divorcing in 7 months because of sending money to OF but not having a single ounce of proof after squandering financial security and a free degree from your parents? Sounds like a young military marriage to me.
She’s such a fool for that and for beginning a marriage that was so weak that such a lie from a husband would make her heavily change her life so much. She was a young adult only having to spend money on her fun stuff and everything else was being covered by her parents. If I were her I would’ve just put on a show for my parents until I graduated and/or could financially support myself and move out and then got a divorce.
If I was ever interested In marrying someone and their parents were taking care of them financially unless they got married, I wouldn't marry them! I would wait! It is difficult in the military though, but clearly they weren't meant to be.
“He was watching porn, which I really can’t prove, and then lied to me about something I can’t verify actually occurred”. My brain can’t process that kind of logic without being at risk of stroking out!
@@JKRBWshe literally said she didn’t have an issue if he was watching it (even if that *was* her issue that’s a fine boundary to have), but that he wasn’t being honest with her about it. People are willfully misinterpreting her. Her finances are bad on their own but we don’t need to twist the words on the marriage.
Why do so many people have trouble understanding the difference between “when” and “whenever”? “Whenever” is only for reoccurring ‘whens’, not for referencing a singular moment.
The one exception I have to that peeve is when people say “whenever” bc they’re not sure of when in time it happened, I see it as a shortened “whenever [it was that] x happened,” and that feels okay to me. But using it Willy nilly instead of “when” is just painful lol
My parents cut me off: Is living at home rent free Doesn't have to pay any utilities Parents are paying for car insurance Parents are paying for all groceries Sounds like a really rough life
So true, I'm living with my mom as we have double apartament house (I'm living in my late grandparents) while paying my mom 500 monthly for utilities/bills, I started paying her pretty late that's why I want to make it up for her as fast as I'll be able. The only reason I don't have stable job is my lack of axperience (so quite empty cv) and quite high social anxiety, but I have few seasonal jobs that doesn't spike the SA and I earn throu the whole year enough money to go by without debts (the only minus is not having retirenment funds, but in my country it's not guaranteed even if you work most of your life while paying the retirenment taxes). I know it's the last call to start earning, and I know that if I'll have stable earnings I'll be easily building those savings as I am very frugal.
I live with my in laws, I have to pay bills and rent and I am actively grateful. This woman is so weak, if she considers an all bills and expenses paid living arrangement hard.
The number of adults that come on to this show and do not know their finances is WILD to me. You’re a grown adult! How do you NOT know how much money you have? How much debt you’re in? And have A PLAN TO GET BETTER AT FINANCES!? Truly wild. Wild.
You just hit a point where you give up and stop caring. To be fair, it can be difficult to keep track of all the different accounts and track spending on them. But there are so many budget applications that track the spending for you and make it autonomous so it’s just a matter of taking that first step.
It comes from parents. I burned a lot after started living by myself at 16, because I never was getting any pocket money from my parents. Ofc had no car (I’m European, I don’t need to), but I wish I burned on some small amounts during my teenage years, than on overspent of 600€ in my first three months living by myself.
I do all my finances and bills on the 30th of every month. Most things aren't on autopay, but I have a calender reminder set with everything that has to be paid. I move enough into checking to cover all the bills, pay all of them at once, and then I am done. It is really not that hard, it gets hard when you stop paying stuff.
I was guilty of this before starting to watch this show.. Caleb made me realize I was just being immature and completely stupid, I’ve since pulled my head out of my rear end and have paid off a lot of debt
My parents cut me off but they still put a roof over my head, pay for car insurance, buy groceries, pay for utilities. BUT they totally cut me off. Bullshit spending of 70%!!!!! Fuckin wild!!!
I went from a relationship that drained my savings, then break up, new apartment by myself, having to repurchase furniture that the ex got rid of, then taxes hitting me in the face (I have never owed on taxes, idk what happened other than I had to work 4 jobs last year to survive). Now, I have a new job with benefits and pretty good pay. I'm finally getting back on my feet. I just paid off a credit card and put some money towards my emergency fund today!😊 Thanks Caleb!
My girlfriend thinks I’ve gone insane trying to sell stuff to get out of debt. Thanks Caleb for putting a fire in me to change my (and hopefully her) future.
Freedom is great. My mortgage is 3 years ahead and the only other loan I have had in 20 years is my car. It’s 1/2 paid off in 6 months. I hate having the second payment it interferes with doing anything with cash, and is keeping me in a job I don’t like. I have a 6 month buffer but I’d rather keep it than have to build it again.
it helps you more than anything realize how little you get back reselling things than than what you bought it for, and making future purchases with that in mind.

“This was the only way I could get approved for a car.” Bro, the point to the approval is to make sure you can afford it. Going through someone else doesn’t all of a sudden mean you can afford it, it just means someone else can.
For the first time in my life, all 4 of my credit cards have reported with a $0 balance every month so far this year thanks to this channel! Thank you FA!
Financial good news since watching the show early last year: - hubby & I have a 6 month emergency fund - increased 401k contributions - began adding additional payments on the home - have no major debts except the home & an interest free car payment - haven’t spent money on DoorDash, UberEats, etc. Since January this year. Last year we went from ordering 2-3/week to *once* every 4-6ish weeks, usually picking it up ourselves to save on delivery fees. - stopped going to coffee shops. We’ve been making lattes & iced coffees at home and have only gone out maybe 3 times in the last 6 months 😅 lol

Welcome to the risks of getting married in the military. That alimony will stop when the divorce is finalized. It does really hurt the husband that he’s the one filing.
It’s part of the BAH bonus that you get as a couple to pay for housing. If you’re a service member and you divorce, you lose that, or a portion of it depending on your rank. You have to be married for 10 years minimum to get any sort of alimony.
Thanks to you...paid off over $14k in credit card debt in the last 12 months. I didn't have a sufficient emergency fund when I lost 50% of my salary for an entire year during covid. Everything went on the card. Learned my lesson. Lease car ended, and I didn't get a new car since I work from home (sucked the big one), cut my cable, cut netflix and Spotify, only home cooked meals (this was the worst 😅), rented out a room in my house for extra income. Im officially debt free as of this month. Before I get a car, I'm going to build my emergency fund and pad my checking account. This sucked and was sooo hard, but I feel so much better and, most importantly, I'm FREEE!!!! My credit is back up to 820. Thank you!!!!
That is so wild! Her parents clearly wanted her to finish her education and wait until her brain fully develops to make a lifelong commitment to somebody. Considering she ended up getting divorced shortly after getting married it's clear they were trying to steer her away from making a poor decision.
Probably told her that because they saw this dude was bad news and hoped she’d wake up/grow up. Sure, she isn’t exactly a green light, but that doesn’t mean he’s perfect either. 22 is very immature. She seems like she doesn’t learn lessons and doesn’t respect her parents, so i’m not surprised at this situation.
I can see why her parents wanted her to not get married, they wanted her to be independent and be able to make sure she survived on her own, not mooch off her partner..
My niece stayed with us over last school year through her senior year of high school. I told her she was welcome to stay with us rent-free all through college, and we will help advise her financially and how to navigate the processes for the things she wants to do. We told her or goal is to teach her about being self reliant and independent so that she doesn't get trapped in bad relationships she can't leave due to financial dependencies like her mother did. We told her, though, that if she gets married, she has decided she is an adult and will need to rely on herself and her husband. I can not understand anyone who wants to get married to just live in someone else's house and mooch off other people
Could have just bypassed the lawyer expenses at that point and claim mutual dissolve of the marriage usually just costs a few dollars especially since it was under a year.
Her eyes LIT UP with excitment when he asked if the relationship was toxic. Immediatly follwed with her stating she wants to be financially independant in a year, a year and a half, max 2 years. Her "friends" heard what she said and went behind her back to tell her "toxic" husband who she accuses of things with no proof. . . . I can guarentee his parents were also dissapointed and guiding against this marriage, I would hate to see my son involved with a person like this.
My positive is I got a promotion with a pay increase then got a raise a few months later and set up my 401 k finally. Yay. Also stopped using my credit card in 2024 and have been working very hard to pay it down.
Financial good news for me so far this year is getting a new job. Same pay but lots of overtime opportunities at double pay. A little closer to home (was driving an hour each way for the old job). I’m saving $500/mo by not having to take the toll roads everyday. Saving $150-$200 on gas monthly. Way better and more affordable benefits + 401k with match and more PTO. I have way more time in my day now to make moves on side gigs. & that is just the financial upside. Mentally, physically, emotionally a better fit for employment + more quality time with my daughter. 🥳
Before I watched this series, I was completely committed to the idea that I was NEVER going to pay back my student loans. I didn't care and I wanted to spend my money on things that made me happy short term. Watching your show inspired me to do better with my career and finances, SO YA GIRL PAID OFF HER STUDENT LOANS AND LANDED A CAREER! Thanks, Caleb! Now go take a vacation! You're doing the good work! 💕💕💕
In my opinion, this is another adult who is just being enabled by her parents and even society. Enough of the victim mentality, at what point do we keep treating adults as little kids and not start holding them accountable for their place in society, and their actions. To be a fully functional and responsible adult without relying on parents entirely. This air of infancy and babying we have created is not helping the younger generations grow up. The worst thing you can do is give everything to your kids and them never experiencing the consequences of their actions, it hinders them and sabotages their maturity.
I have nothing against parents giving "everything" to their kids. For many people that is their financial goal, to be able to pay for their kids' college, help them with their first house, etc... The issue is that the "kid" receiving all those things should be a functional adult who understands the value of what they are getting. We have a huge issue in society with adults who think that they should have been taught in schools how to "adult". There is a dominant mindset that promotes the idea that you can simply block key stages of life because kids need more time to think, or adults need more time to learn "adulting". This is, of course, extremely stupid. Time does not stop just because we wished it did. The years are going by, and we have lost a generation that is now in their 30s who is still complaining about "adulting" and not having enough for a downpayment on their dream house, all while sipping on a frappuccino and waiting for their Temu order to arrive.
@@rtre957 You hit the nail on the goddamn head. I live in the same house as a messy, jobless 30 year old who plays the same video game 14 hrs a day and sleep for the final 10, wondering why her life sucks while sipping on Doordashed boba paid on mom's credit card. Putrid and vile

Every time she opened her mouth lies fell out. What a joke of a person.

Divorcing in 7 months because of sending money to OF but not having a single ounce of proof after squandering financial security and a free degree from your parents? Sounds like a young military marriage to me.
I thought the exact same thing. Glad I stayed single when I was in.
I am not familiar. Where can I further look into this?
"He was supposed to take care of me"... hmm, you look like a grown ass person that should be taking care of yourself.
If I was ever interested In marrying someone and their parents were taking care of them financially unless they got married, I wouldn't marry them! I would wait! It is difficult in the military though, but clearly they weren't meant to be.
When she said she got divorced 7 months in I was shocked, then she mentioned it was a military marriage and i wasn’t surprised at all.
The most surprising part was that they waited so long to get married in the first place.

Why do so many people have trouble understanding the difference between “when” and “whenever”? “Whenever” is only for reoccurring ‘whens’, not for referencing a singular moment.

This drove me bananas!! I've not heard this colloquially - she's the first person I've heard to use "whenever" to reference a specific instance.
Yes!!! Drove me crazy and she said it just about every other sentence!
The one exception I have to that peeve is when people say “whenever” bc they’re not sure of when in time it happened, I see it as a shortened “whenever [it was that] x happened,” and that feels okay to me. But using it Willy nilly instead of “when” is just painful lol

Truly wild. Wild.
my universe is exploding again??

It’s part of the BAH bonus that you get as a couple to pay for housing. If you’re a service member and you divorce, you lose that, or a portion of it depending on your rank. You have to be married for 10 years minimum to get any sort of alimony.

Yet they raised her as a mooch lol
My niece stayed with us over last school year through her senior year of high school. I told her she was welcome to stay with us rent-free all through college, and we will help advise her financially and how to navigate the processes for the things she wants to do. We told her or goal is to teach her about being self reliant and independent so that she doesn't get trapped in bad relationships she can't leave due to financial dependencies like her mother did. We told her, though, that if she gets married, she has decided she is an adult and will need to rely on herself and her husband.
I can not understand anyone who wants to get married to just live in someone else's house and mooch off other people
I don't understand divorce laws. How the hell is she getting alimony after a 7 month marriage? Just for her the piss it away on a Monopoly game
Could have just bypassed the lawyer expenses at that point and claim mutual dissolve of the marriage usually just costs a few dollars especially since it was under a year.
It's likely because he's active duty. Military personnel have different stipulations for divorce/child support.
It's the military. He has to support his dependent and give her a set amount each month so she can "survive" until the divorce is final.
Government get a percentage of the pie. It’s a business
Maybe he was so desperate to get away he’s the one who suggested alimony.

I love that calebs way of saying: "that sounds like bull shit to me." Is "we're only hearing 1 side of the story."
I agree with this 💯
I have nothing against parents giving "everything" to their kids.
Jeez if my parents were well off enough to take care of me I would have had a PhD by now

Going from discussing tea to a coffee sponsorship was kinda smooth lol
The little shake at the end 🔥
Honestly this channel has been so eye opening! My husband and I paid off our three credit cards in less than two years and the only debt we have is our mortgage. Starting a modest emergency fund now and every time I think about ordering door dash I hear Caleb yelling about taquitos in my head. Thanks for the tough love and sensible solutions!
WOOOO
I started watching Caleb three months ago and I've already paid off over $3,000 in debt. I created a budget which I update each month and track my expenses. I'll be 100% debt free in 5-6 months. I have a pension at work and a plan to kick my retirement up a notch once the debt is gone. My life is changing for the better and I'm loving it!
Someone lied to her and told her putting on a child like demeanor was cute. But its absolutely not. I cringe to think of her in any type of management position
@@nono99136you couldn’t be further from the truth
Thank you 🙏🏻
@natalierose1072
Cringe is EXACTLY how I would describe the feeling she gives me just listening to her speak and watching her facial expressions etc
I have an almost 11 year old daughter
I don’t need to entertain a grown woman behaving like an adolescent 💯
THIS - good news, reality will most likely have smacked that out of her in the next 5 years 😂
@@nono99136 So Pedo's?
@@nono99136 JK lol. But it's cute when its a 19 year old, not so cute when you are 27 and living with your parents. Also, men tolerate:, because its fun at first. Same way some woman will tolerate a lazy bum. Evenaully you get annoyed being someones daddy/mommy all day. Very emotionally draining.
Annoying pet peeve: It’s not “whenever we got married…” it’s “WHEN we got married…”
Isn't 'whenever' like a hypothetical or unknown future tense, and when is for more definite or past tense? I read a lot of books but it's been awhile since I paid any attention to the rules of grammar.
This mistake seems to be becoming more and more common, however I only ever see it being said by people from North America. I live elsewhere and have never heard this in real life, only ever on youtube.
You are wrong. She uses whenever often and inappropriately BUT in your example it's valid.
You were half way there. Good effort
@@30yearsoldiam1 Sorry, you’re wrong.
I scrolled through probably 50 comments looking for this one, thank you
Found this channel a few weeks ago and I already filled out submissions form! Thanks Caleb for all the content and hope to see you soon 😅
Tip: Buy a copy of your comfort show (when you can afford it), so you’re not sucked into subscriptions indefinitely for something you’ll watch repeatedly. It saves you money over time. Same with music.
I do this! I bought all the Scooby Doo series and I play that in the background whenever I'm doing stuff instead of netflix
Wow, great idea!
Another good option is brave browser with add block built in.
This is just what I said to some people…that I was going to buy episodes of some other shows I have and then cancel the subscription because I am literally watching the same shows on the streaming services.
Or, and hear me out...🏴☠️🦜
My parents cut me off, now they only cover all my living expenses
If you have kids now, saying you let them live at home therefor you're generous is selfish. I bought my house just before the pandie, 2018, my mortgage is 1050 a month. A studio in my area is around 2000 a month. I do not have 2000 a month. If I was born a few years later, I would literally be homeless. I would need 1-3 room-mates to rent a studio, but I would rather live in a van. Because I was born a few years earlier, I have a 4 floor house, yard, pool, front yard, shed larger than the average studio.
@Rspsand07 but as the kid if you say "my parents cut me off financially" yet still live off them you are the selfish one

Her explaining how great Monopoly is while being a direct victim of credit-card capitalism is just too much irony
The usury this country allows via debt should be illegal.
Mind blowing
That was the only time when her eyes lit up.
Victim or Capitalism? 🤔 You mean Keynesianism? Keynesianism is based on the idea of Consumerism keeping the economy booming not Capitalism...
I don't think you understand what capitalism is
Watching this before watching the follow up.
Caleb, not only have you helped me become more conscious of my own BS spending every week, but you also help me get my BS chores done. I always play your podcasts when I have to fold laundry or do the dishes around the house.
Yes!! It's made me get off my ass and try a lot harder with not being a slob. It wasn't something I even realized I had such a bad problem with till this show for some reason
This girl lies so comfortably she thinks people buy it
"My manager asked me to push back my sister's weddings"......sure,they did 😂
“I was on my own for year” …but got married 7months ago 😂
"I only buy drinks at the Vape store."
I wasn't surprised when she later admitted that she was buying vape stuff also.
@@MPPG663my bf’s manager did actually ask him to change our 5 year anniversary reservation to the next night so he could work lol. He quit a month later bc they didn’t want to work with his availability since he was working two jobs. 🤷♀️
Got hired at Kaiser. After applying every week for 9 years❤
Thank you Caleb. When you said “let this be your rock bottom” it struck a cord! I am NOT in a bad financial situation but my spending has been more than it used to be so I’m letting this be my “rock bottom” even though it’s not awful. Gotta get this stuff in order so it doesn’t become something bad down the line
Imagine getting taken care of by your parents and getting alimony from your ex-husband and still being poor
This is a prime example of parents enabling their grown children. This girls lives with her parents, they pay for a roof over her head, her groceries and car insurance.
Her (ex) husband is paying her alimony (which is ridiculous in itself.) She quits her job to go on vacations overseas paid for by her PARENTS!! And you wonder why you have BS spending on GAMES and everything else. It’s because she’s not living in the real world like the rest of us, no real responsibilities and mom/dad will always bail her out.

Oh hell NO. As someone who supported myself all through university, and watched my friends get all their bills paid for, you do NOT get to complain about this. There are so many of us who would kill to have that level of financial support from our parents, and she just threw it away? I'm already mad at this!
LITERALLY. This one was especially frustrating.
I dont envy them anymore, cuz i have seen what i can do on my own, and holy fuck that is such a great feeling,yk WE ARE STRONGER, because we fought we have the knowledge to be on our own, just look at these people when the parents cut them off, they are lost. It was hard growing up, and start working at 13 but im so glad for what i have become.
Fr 4 year to complete a 2 year degree
I sat with a financial advisor earlier this year and he told me to watch Dave Ramsey. I found Caleb and started really sitting down and figuring out my finances. By the end of this year I'm on track to pay off almost all my debt and getting an emergency fund. I'm almost 27 and I decided that I can't die working like I thought I was going to. Thank you Caleb for helping me get my finances under control.
Can you unpack not "working like [you] thought [you] were going to?"
As in you need to work less to cope? Because I feel that.
@ more so I'm a work-a-holic and I enjoy working. Actually getting a part time job and stuff once the building is done being built. But now I'll be working because I want to earn extra cash to spend on whatever I want instead of earning extra cash to pay off debt. I'll still work til I die, but now it won't be slaving away because I have to.
