Ooooof. Statute of Limitations on debt (written contracts) in Oklahoma is 5 years. Starting to pay those debts 6 years later was a horrible move financially, though of course that's what keeps collections companies in business. They probably bought that (formerly) time-barred debt for two cents on the dollar.
EDIT: Definitely double check how to properly negotiate with collections. What they will try to do is take your half and say you can pay the rest later. Get it in writing that, by accepting your payment, they will close the account and either delete it or mark it paid in full, and do not make any payments until you have a letter from them saying as much.

I know Dani won't ever see this but getting that initial bipolar diagnosis will TREMENDOUSLY improve your life, even if it doesn't seem like it now. it's like your first sense of clarity and everything you used to do ends up making so much sense, and you can usually navigate thorough life better. I was diagnosed with bipolar I 6 years ago, and luckily for me, I never applied for a credit card until after I was diagnosed because I would have 100% been in the same spot as a lot of other people on these videos. it took me a few years after the diagnosis to really understand how to personally handle it. because the one thing it tells you is the catch all symptoms, but the diagnosis never tells you your personal symptoms. one of my personal symptoms was buying for the dopamine rush. manic buying vs depressive buying was always different, but i realized i bought more things when i was sad.

Hearing you talk about negotiating with the collection agencies makes me think of a reverse collection call - instead of them hounding her, she's turning the tables and hounding them.
Just a tip - once you get your financial life in order, you actually LIKE looking at your bank statements and even your bills, because you know exactly what you're going to see and how you're going to pay them.

As long as her mental health stays in check with her medication I think she’s going to be fine. She seems really determined.

This is the sad reality for so many people working in low wage jobs and it is so difficult to get ahead. Best of luck, and I hope you can make strides in the right direction.

I like to watch these videos an hour before lunch. Because Caleb screaming restaurant names gives me ideas on what to eat. I think I'll pick up some taquitos today.

It’s shameful that she was even allowed to get into this mess. A lot of it feel like predatory lending.

Caleb, I really appreciate how respectful you are about mental health and help raise awareness for it. I have pretty bad panic disorder as well. I’d love to hear an episode where you talk about it. I’d love to even do one w you where we talk about it and the difficulty around finding help that is affordable
