great vid, gave it a thumbs up, I have been searching all over the internet for a simple breakdown of recipes per profession and I can't find one, I even have beta access but need to learn each profession to see the recipes
I like Tailoring and Enchanting. I mostly care about making bags. I’ll craft gear until I unlock bags and disenchant any crafted gear that doesn’t sell, sells at a loss or it’s epic gear I looted but don’t need. I also like putting tailoring and skinning on a monk then just join farming groups.
Great video, Im in the same boat where my main and a few more toons have a lot of time and resources invested in their professions so I wont just drop them. But regardless its great to have an understanding of how and why certain things go together. :)
Same, Have had some profession main(s) since WoD, they have a lot of patterns I don't wish to refarm (Sulfuras, legacy gears, panthers, sky golem etc). Have enough alts and with the new spaces, should not have issues.
Keep it up, this is my first time find this channel after watching this video you gave me a lot inspiration. Both in terms level more professions and better ways to make content for my own UA-cam (It's not related to wow). Thank you, you jus got my sub!!!
I'd be careful when stacking crafting professions. you might run into artisan mettle bottlenecks. great to combine them for rep farming, but could pay the price later on!
I'd argue about the profession pairing though - except for having mining+herbalism (preferably on a dracthyr you level first), pairing up crafting ones for the reputations is minimal to not a factor, considering you'd be getting those done either way and they don't match up perfectly. I think matching the crafts based on the materials they use to have cleaner bags, and the character that's using them, is more important. It's all down to preference at this point anyway, but I really feel like having one renown trach that matches up between 2 professions isn't worth it having to juggle 2 different material types (with multiple rarities to boot) on a single toon. I'll most definitely personally go for the more traditional combos, alch/insc on my druid, tail/ench on a priest, lw/sk on a hunter and bs/jc or on a plate-wearer, with engineering being the odd one out due to it having no real preference on the type of class using it, imo. I'm also essentially starting out with the gathering on my first character to level, since it seems herb/mining will be the absolute slowest professions to get knowledge in. That, plus easy early goldmaking when everybody's scurrying to dip into crafting. My old main, the druid, will swoop in with alch and insc start using my herbs shortly after, since those are always profitable but especially the first patches with darkmoon decks. I'll keep selling my ores until I level a plate class later, but that might be after the hunter with lw/sk to try making some gear for the 3 leather/mail wearers, AS LONG as we're actually allowed to craft for our own alts, which might not be the case last I remember.
Those pairings are completely fine. As I say in the video, I don’t even follow the pairings I list lol. This video was strictly showcasing rep and potential pairings you may want to think about if rep is an important factor for you - as lots of people hate rep grinds including myself lol. But whatever pairing fits your play style and makes the most sense for you is perfectly fine! I’m a ench/tailor, blacksmith/jewel, leath/inscript and Alch/engineer myself atm lol
Definitely a great way to go about it if you are okay with playing alot of different races! I have a small problem of all my characters being blood elves haha 😅
This should link you to one of my tweets with a photo attached. Basically give s you the rundown of the racials (Doesnt have all but the majority). You can also simply just look up Racial bonuses on wowhead.... for example, Blood elfs have +5 enchanting, Nightborne have +5 inscription twitter.com/Penguinr2gt/status/1575287568064823296?s=20&t=iqD2olhBRBKPNZtafMTflA They are beneficial if you want to go for them, but of course you are limited by the faction you play, and ultimately you should just play the type of character you want to play
Absolutely awesome video My favorite part about crafting is the explorers packs. If you do everything in the first zone you'll get enough rep for the expedition to get the explorer's pack treasures which will give knowledge items almost every time between either the blue items that give 1 or some epic items that give 2-3 along with the ones that give the weekly turn in. This means you can essentially unlock your epic crafts in a short time such as currently on beta I have the raid quality cloak unlocked after about an hour of farming knowledge
@@Gaming-Doc it's like renown 3 or something and they are overworld treasures I suggest doing the full first zone and many other side quests so you have it for sure. The treasures are also very abundant in the final zone around the northern coast
@@maggimaster overworld = openworld*? & "for the expedition" + renown 3 is the equivalent to being honored rep with the expedition (a faction)? And is there anything timegating you from spam crafting a raid level cloak day 1?
This was a great video and like how you have used texts to support the video itself. Makes everything much more understandble to people that way. The reputation combo sheet was quite useful for me because I have tried to figure out which profession combos my characters will have. It looks like I am most part okay also from combo point of view. I did one change though (based on the sheet) and I paired Jewelcrafting with Engineering instead of Alchemy because it goes better with reputation grind that way. Thanks for this information. 🙂 I have a question though. Because we have unequal number of professions (11 pcs), have you noticed which professions could possible benefit to have double? For example, anything special daily cooldown materials or something like that.
Thanks so much for this. I’m going to have to go back and rethink what I’m going to do. Fortunately, I have a few max level toons I prepared just in case something like this happened.
Thats exactly what ivdid with Blacksmith... but was at 115/300 and stopped, and thought wait. I amblearning classic .. and i have cataclysm. Still lvl 45 lol

@@Penguinr2gt im not sure i have the patience to do the alt army sadly, but ill have a herbalism/mining char and another alchemy tailoring combo, then we see how it goes from there.if i can have many 60 levels just doing 1 of the tailoring daily crafts, ill prolly stick to that early on
Nice video. Sadly, I'm in the same boat of having characters with rare recipes already and leveled every crafting from every expansion since Vanilla. Sadly I hadn't planned on DF parings when I made all my professions originally. Sadly the more I learn about the crafting system, the gearing, the work order system... the more I think I might not play wow much longer. I do however have to give you props on your spreadsheets, very nice, and the color coding is a nice touch. I've got tons of spreadsheets, and color coded as well, most of the time with conditional coloring.
I have a tailor alt and I don't remember having to grind rep in order to level up the profession. All I did was send all cloth gathered by other toons to him and him getting all professions from trainor. This grinding rep on multiple characters just for profession recipies is bullshit. Here we go, Bliz is going to continue to own us and our time.
Of course if you hate professions, you probably will hate these new system... but if you are a goldmaker and enjoy crafting, these new systems are awesome!
this is a very helpful video. well done! my wife and I have been reviewing and reflecting and debating which way to pair with our 11 toons. Now, it is much clearer thanks to you! Where will we find your spreadsheet when published?
you will be fine with Artisan's mettles, It is meant to be limited but you will have many sources for them each week. Sparks have nothing to do with making yourself gold or make progress, Sparks are simply for gear that you want to make for yourself. You cant use your spark for someone else
Thanks for this really informative video Penguin! I know it’s subjective but what are your thoughts on sacrificing your previous profession recipes (from Shadowlands, BFA, etc.) to maximise Dragonflight renown gathering efficiency? I’m wondering whether I should unlearn my existing professions (thus losing my recipes) in order to optimise for Dragonflight. But I’m unsure whether it’s worth it. What are your thoughts?
Thanks for watching! I would not lose your old progression. Lots of old world recipes are beneficial and great for goldmaking, and if you have any sort of rare recipes, dropping the profession will make you lose them forever.
Is there exclusive player power tied to certain professions? For example the alchemist buff extension on flasks in SL? Or sockets for JC, or threads on pants for tailors. Not power you can just buy from AH... but is there power you can only get if you learn a certain profession?
Only thing that really is big is the alchemist buff for potions. Engineers get to use wormholes to help with faster travel but thats not much of a power thing
As an AH goblin who raids mythic and do keys as well as make gold I’m stuck on chanting engineering. I’m seriously wondering if the brez and pylon in keys is worth the gold I can make going something else
Do any professions have special/unique items or perks? Engineering has items they can craft strictly for their profession/themselves. Alchemy gets a huge bonus to pot times and movement speed and healing from pots. do any other professions have anything like this?
Alchemy and Engineering are the big utility ones in terms of perks. There’s no use bonuses or extra stats for picking those professions like Alchemy and engineering
No skinning combo? Was considering 6 toons: 1. Herb/Mine 2. Ench/Incsript 3. Eng/JC 4. Alch/Tailor 5. Skinning/Leather 6. Blacksm/?? I guess 6 could be Blacksmith/Leather like you said and just make 5 Skin/herb or mine
It doesnt really matter what you pair skinning with. If you want to double up on a profession due to cooldowns, thats normally what I would pair skinning with
The best character for skinning, if you want to minmax it, is whatever character can kill the fastest, so usually your best geared character. Worgen also get a skinning speed increase (unless it's going away in DF, but I don't think so), so you don't need to buy Darkmoon Firewater to skin faster. You could pair it with Tailoring, because the cloth drops also increase with kill speed/gear level.
Lovely video! What do you think about this: Using gathering professions (mining/herb) on main since it's the most that's going to be outside and thus gathering more. Have alts for the rest of the professions. Would love your thought on this as I am really struggling to make a decision. I'm looking at playing 3 toons: 1. Main with herb/mining 2. Alt with JC/Engineering 3. Alt with Alchemy and BS Cheers!
Really just depends on your playstyle. You can't go wrong with any pairing. Since you will likely play on main the most, you will automatically progress more on that toon, so if you dont think you are going to gather a ton, I would not recommend having gathering there. If you do think you will focus on gathering, then you are good to go!
What are your thoughts on Herbalism/Inscription on my main and Mining/Jewelcrafting on my alt? I don't know that I have time to have a gatherer on one and two crafting professions on another, so I want to make sure my main has what they need to skill up and produce, without being dependent on a separate gatherer. Thanks!!
Are there going to be any soulbound rewards from gathering, or is it all going to be transferable to other toons? For example, in Legion, Bloods of Sargeras were soulbound, meaning that double gatherers had nothing to craft using the Bloods and double crafters were starved for Bloods.
@@Penguinr2gt Thank you for the reply! Double gathering certainly seems like a good idea in Dragonflight. And if you don't mind the extra danger, when you are in warmode there is also supposed to be a PvP-related reagent you can get from herb and ore nodes to sell or craft PvP gear with. Only time will tell how profitable some of these reagents will be.
There currently is no site, the spreadsheet shown on screen is one that I am working on. It will be public, just not yet! (The rest of the pages are very ugly rn haha)
What do you think? My plan is getting herb and mining at the start of main. Turning those after week 1 and a lot of farming in enchanting and blacksmithing. I will keep all quest gear and drops and disemchant them then and sell thes mats from gathering. My first alt will get mining and herb for farming.
Rep grinding is actually going to be fine! Once you hit specific milestones on your main (lvl 10 and 20 renown), you will gain a 100% and 200% rep gain boost for all your alts, which is extremely handy
Not sure if already asked here as lots of comments to scroll through (haha). Is there any big disadvanage to going Mining and Herb while levelling each of my characters and then swapping when at max level (leaving one alt to keep them ofc)? Just thinking that would be a nice way to stock up on mats for crafting or selling, then switching to crafters at max level? Or will I be losing out a ton of progression/knowledge etc?
There are many different profession items that each profession can wear/make... the ones listed in the chart are just the BiS ones! So yes, any sort of other toolset/kit out there, is just not as good as having the Blacksmithing Leatherworker's toolset equipped!
hey pengu , do you have a idea which profecion is gonna make the most gold ... i mean i heart about blacksmith and letherworking but what does it mean ... wich item do i have to craft, tools, amor etc... can you pls tell me what is in your opinion to make the most gold Have a nice day 😀
It really depends on your server, armor professions are great due to the fact that they can craft mythic quality armor, but if you are on a server that doesnt have alot of players that do high end content, then its not going to be as good. Since we have never had these systems before I cant say what will 100% make the most gold, but whatever professions you end up picking, you will be making gold just fine
Would pairing alchemy with jewelcrafting be a good idea considering jewelcrafters will be making the vials for alchemists? Or are the alchemy glass vials/phials not a bop item and I can mail them to my alchemist??
You can mail them to your alchemist! So theres nothing wrong with pairing them or not pairing them, as long as you have a alchemist and jewelcrafter somewhere in your alts, you are good to go!
So once again looking over my toons. What would you say the importance of having a dedicated gatherer vs just buying the mats? I dont like gathering so now wondering if i get more value out of my time from just making 4 dedicated crafters and toons after those having gathering if i ever feel like i need to. I feel like with mat values coming down over time and faster than past prolly that I just dont know if I will truly see the value in gathering for hours. Thoughts?
Okay, firstly before giving my advice - to anyone reading this (i know you said personally that you dont like to gather), but if you are reading this and enjoy gathering, go gather! You should ultimately do what you think is fun. But to those you dont like to gather, I have good news since I dont personally recommend gathering if you are planning on crafting. The issue with gathering, is that you will very quickly outgrow it. Im going to use shadowlands examples for this. Lets say an hour of farming SL herbs got you 400 herbs. Shadowlands potions cost 5 herbs each so 400 herbs would get you 80 potions. So, 1 hour of effort got you 80 potions. If you post those pots on the AH, they will likely sell within minutes... after that stock sells out within minutes you are left with nothing so you have no more possible income. Now what you have to do is go back out, farm for another hour and repeat and that puts you so far behind. If you are someone who simply buys your mats, you can buy 400 herbs, craft 80 potions, sell out within minutes then rebuy and recraft again. If you are someone with not alot of gold, you buy in smaller portions and as you sell more and more you will gain more profit and can start increasing your batch size etc. I apologize for the wall of text lol, but at the end of the day, if you are someone who wants to craft and wants to focus on that, farming is just going to put you behind and you will outgrow it super fast. Having no gatherer is completely fine! Im not going to be gathering in DF either.
hello, with the recent changes that the alts share the reputation with the main character, are the combos and combinations of the professions still useful, or have there been any changes or recommendations to join the professions for better results? , thanks!!!
They definitely are still useful, just depends on what your playstyle is... having to farm no rep for the Tuskaar compared to farming rep but its alot faster is still better, however its not as big of a pain as it once was if you did decide/have to farm it. So it really just depends on what you want to pair your profession by
Hmm, So I have a Scenario... I have 5 levels 60's with varying Professions. Let's say my MAIN is a Hunter with Skinning/LW. Can I use my MAIN to farm Recipes for my ALTS and their respective chosen Professions or do I have to "play" them for Recipes that require Rep/Renown to get? Did that make sense? Edit: Do we pick Professions from scratch in DF or can we pick them now and start leveling? It looks like DF Professions are New and only available at release?
You have to rep grind on all toons, however you can hit milestones on your main to make it go by faster for your alts, but you still have to go do activities on your alts. Professions work the same as always, you can only learn the new expansion once it is out. Its still same old "Tailoring" or "Enchanting" but you will learn the "Dragon Isles Tailoring" or "Dragon Isles Enchanting" once you reach Dragonflight
you should never use #default, if that is happening you are likely trying to post something that is not in one of my groups (you likely have Base Group selected when running a post scan) or you have imported my profile without operations attached
So.... it must be just me being blind, but I'm having problems locating the spreadsheet for Dragonflight beta you've put together.... Any chance of getting a link?
Oh... and I have a question about leveling professions such as Enchanting and getting the enchanting mats from disenchanting items.... do you find it efficient to craft BoE items from your crafters (such as Tailoring, Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking) and sending those items to your Enchanter to disenchant for raw enchanting materials? How does that look in Dragonflight?
The sheet was not out during the time this video was published; however, an early version of the sheet is out! You can find it either in the Desc of my latest video or in the Free Tools section of my discord!
Yes, disenchant shuffling has always been a great way to make gold in the past; however, we cant say if it will work until DF is out and we have the prices of materials

Thanks!!
Do I need to be Max Level to Start with Professions?
No! You can learn them as soon as you get to the dragon isles!
Is there a downloadable version of this excel sheet? To see the profession/faction combos.
If you go to any one of my most recent videos it’s in the description!
Are there going to be any soulbound rewards from gathering, or is it all going to be transferable to other toons? For example, in Legion, Bloods of Sargeras were soulbound, meaning that double gatherers had nothing to craft using the Bloods and double crafters were starved for Bloods.
Theres no soulbound reagents that you need to craft with attached to gathering professions!
I think I'll be skinning/leatherworking on my main
Sounds great!
where is the site with all the recipes? thanks
There currently is no site, the spreadsheet shown on screen is one that I am working on. It will be public, just not yet! (The rest of the pages are very ugly rn haha)
Bob the GOAT!
We love bob here!
Hi Penguin! Nice to meet you and discover your channel. Looking for friends/guild/stream pals! Subscribed to ya 🙂
What do you think? My plan is getting herb and mining at the start of main. Turning those after week 1 and a lot of farming in enchanting and blacksmithing. I will keep all quest gear and drops and disemchant them then and sell thes mats from gathering. My first alt will get mining and herb for farming.
Sounds good to me!
How is the rep grinding in this xpac? Rep grinding for 6 toons sounds awful, I might just stick with 2 gathering toons.
Rep grinding is actually going to be fine! Once you hit specific milestones on your main (lvl 10 and 20 renown), you will gain a 100% and 200% rep gain boost for all your alts, which is extremely handy
Is it possible to get a copy of your PDF file or spreadsheet? I’ve been looking forever for this.
Yep it’s public! Check the descriptions of my latest videos! Or you can find it in the discord
You can do that just fine!
So leatherworkers can make a tool set, but it's just not as good as the one that blacksmiths make?
There are many different profession items that each profession can wear/make... the ones listed in the chart are just the BiS ones! So yes, any sort of other toolset/kit out there, is just not as good as having the Blacksmithing Leatherworker's toolset equipped!
hey pengu , do you have a idea which profecion is gonna make the most gold ... i mean i heart about blacksmith and letherworking but what does it mean ... wich item do i have to craft, tools, amor etc... can you pls tell me what is in your opinion to make the most gold
Have a nice day 😀
It really depends on your server, armor professions are great due to the fact that they can craft mythic quality armor, but if you are on a server that doesnt have alot of players that do high end content, then its not going to be as good. Since we have never had these systems before I cant say what will 100% make the most gold, but whatever professions you end up picking, you will be making gold just fine
Is there a link for this spreadsheet? Don't see in description and Im looking for something like this to see which factions I need on what alt.
bit.ly/PenguDFSheet
@@Penguinr2gt Thx, thats exacty what I needed.
@@Penguinr2gt what will you do after your 4 crafting toons what profs you giving them?
hello, with the recent changes that the alts share the reputation with the main character, are the combos and combinations of the professions still useful, or have there been any changes or recommendations to join the professions for better results? , thanks!!!
They definitely are still useful, just depends on what your playstyle is... having to farm no rep for the Tuskaar compared to farming rep but its alot faster is still better, however its not as big of a pain as it once was if you did decide/have to farm it. So it really just depends on what you want to pair your profession by
i was thinking i will pair one profession wich uses ore and one that uses herbs so i can double gather with my alt , any thoughts?
That sounds perfectly fine!
Hmm,
So I have a Scenario...
@@Penguinr2gt Thanks for the insight.
Do you actually post things with the default operation? Or do you delete it? Seems a lot of my items want to use it when using you groups
you should never use #default, if that is happening you are likely trying to post something that is not in one of my groups (you likely have Base Group selected when running a post scan) or you have imported my profile without operations attached
@@Penguinr2gt ok. Tha k you very much. So not highlighting base group should fix that?
yep! base group is basically any items not grouped, so if you do want to sell those items still - add them to a group and assign a operation to them!
@@Penguinr2gt ok. Thank you much. I did not even realize that was on
So.... it must be just me being blind, but I'm having problems locating the spreadsheet for Dragonflight beta you've put together....
Yes, disenchant shuffling has always been a great way to make gold in the past; however, we cant say if it will work until DF is out and we have the prices of materials
i heard renown is hsared across all other chars. Any1 tested that yet?
That is not true, you must rep grind on each. Some rewards are account wide but recipes are not
@@Penguinr2gt but if i grind on 1 char lets say Valdrakken renown 20. Would i not have renown 20 on the alt too and buy the recipe directly?
You do have to grind to 20 on the alt, they are not shared across toons
Grouping profs by rep reqs.. genius.
Jesus Christ... and this was breakdown #3???
Guess I'm making a new blacksmith and leatherworking character. Now how many do I need to cover the skill tree specs...hmmmm
You only need and I only recommend 1!
