    Estrogen deficiency at menopause causes heart disease, Alzheimer's, and osteoporosis. It's not just about the symptoms of menopause, but the diseases caused by menopause that is at issue. Consider HRT.

    I had a radical total hysterectomy before I was perimenopausal due to cervical cancer. At 48, I got topical estrogen. At 51, HRT as my new gyn looked at my risk and bone loss. My skin changed in those years of going from normal estrogen to post-op post-menopausal. Estrogen, if safe for you and risks understood, is amazing for women- skin is fuller, no gyn issues, and I feel like myself again.

      Me too. Same surgery for same reason! I am 51 and started on a low dose of an estrogen patch about four months ago. I feel so much better. My oncologist wrote the script for me bc my gynecologist refused.
      Apparently she doesn’t read notes from other doctors and started me on paxil instead. It did absolutely nothing. I got off of that. At my last onc appt, I told her what happened. He has me on an estradiol patch, progesterone and T pellet as needed, so he was a bit confused. I don’t have tik-tok but ‘heard’ estrogen cream on the face was trending. I then told him I didn’t think using topically would alter my estrogen bloodwork, but will know shortly, as all hormones are tested frequently. He had his assistant call the script in for me. Haven’t been using it long enough to notice any real changes, but will continue using as long as my blood work results are not skewed.

Makes sense, but I thought it was worth checking. Turns out the cream (brand name Premarin) is available in Australia, it just has to be sourced from a compounding pharmacy.
      Also, I thought it worth mentioning that I found out about the usage of Premarin cream (intended for vaginal dryness) on the face in an interview with with aforementioned derm. She revealed that she'd been using it herself for 20 years (!) ONLY AROUND THE EYE AREA. She also acknowledged it was a favourite with her patients also, whilst also acknowledging, as Dr Andrea does, that there's very limited scientific study for topical use in this way.

    I have been wondering about this very subject. I am 69 years old. Done with menopause. But about two years ago I started to get urinary tract infections all the time. Every time I would finish a treatment of antibiotics, soon after I would get another UTI. Finally in desperation, my doctor sent me to a Urologist. He prescribed estrogen cream to be applied to the Labium minus around my vagina, three times a week. Very quickly the UTIs stopped and after a year I have noticed that when I apply a pea size amount of cream on that area, that skin is so soft and supple like when I was young. So, I began to wonder what it would do to my neck and face. I am due for my annual exam in a few days, I intend on asking this question. My cheeks actually look nicer after over a year of usage. I was wondering if my new face creams were finally working or is it the estrogen cream being applied in another area of my body. Thank you for this information. I would never put it on my neck or face without asking my doctor. BTW, I was on HRT, but my gynecologist had me level off a few years ago.

    I think you are confusing what is systemic and what is topical HRT, and that will probably not be very helpful to women who don't know much about HRT. The E2 patch, the sprays and the creams are absorbed systemically although it is through the skin, that is their purporse, so it not really a matter of whether they are absorbed systemically or not, they are, and they should be combined with micronised progesterone for women with an intact uterus. When we are talking about "topical" estrogen cream, we are talking about vaginal creams that may contain estradiol or estriol at very low concenctrations and cannot be absorbed systemically, or face creams with 0,3 estriol which again cannot be absorbed systemically. Topical estrogen (vaginal -not sure about the face creams like the one alloy has) has not been linked to breast cancer and can even be used by women who have a history of breast cancer.

      You need a prescription from your doctor and a compounding pharmacy will make it for you. At my pharmacy we have a special order form for the physicians and we fax the order form and doctor will sign it and send it back to the pharmacy. We then make it and deliver to the patient

    Amazing! I was wondering about this very topic. ALSO: I recently started using tretinoin and told a friend. She said she uses estridol (or something like that) on her face but now is interested in using BOTH. As you can imagine that sounds intriguing but also concerning. Should we stick to what we're doing or do you think her combo idea could be good?

    • @JaimeMesChiens
      @JaimeMesChiens 10 місяців тому +7

      I’ve been using tretinoin for over-twenty years.
      Since menopause, I’ve added bio-identical estrogen face cream, and SPF 50 every day.
      I am not Caucasian and my mom has, and grandmother had, really-lovely skin.
      IDK if what I do helps, because I don’t know how I’d look if I didn’t use what I do, but I am pleased with this combo.
