Jesus, it's so freaking fortunate that detectives were actually competent and investigated this. How easy would it be to just go "White racist man, fired, never working again in the field, wallmart for the rest of his life"
Guaranteed it has already happened many times and we haven't heard of it because they didn't catch it...
It just takes a couple interviews with other staff to find out the conversation never happened. But yeah, it's a crap-shoot if they're willing to even do that. A huge potential issue for other cases like this in the future, is if there are two people willing to frame someone. One corroboration of the audio would probably be enough to get someone jailed.
Also the flip side, guilty people are going to deny it and say it was AI generated.
To me it only means they are slightly more competent than Gmod and GTA admins. It’s not like they could realistically stay in denial forever that this technology exists because you can find examples of it online.

Baltimore resident here, with connections in BCPS. The principal has already been replaced at Pikesville High, even though the charges were false. He's currently working elsewhere in the school system, most likely going to become a principal again (at a different school) next year. The athletic director was trying to hire his roommate as a coach without going through HR for interviews and such, and probably got mad when the principal blocked it.
Did he get money for defamation?
They still replaced him??? That sucks.

I was a barista for 10 years at Starbucks. During that time I made many mistakes making drinks or not remembering people's names and normal orders. some time ago there was a case where some woman got a phonecall at work ..from people who claimed to have kidnapped her daughter ..put her on the phone as proof...woman went nuts.. got the money and paid the ransom ..and in the end it was found daughter was safe and sound at home ..all the time and the phone conversation was an AI fake as well.

When put behind a low-quality filter, it sounds real. I honestly wouldn't be able to tell this was AI/deep fake.
They did this in Star Trek. Basically made a fake holo-recording, and when it was found to be a fake, the person who discovered it was killed, and the recording was damaged just enough to pass as real to everyone else. Any inconsistencies were passed off as explosion damage.

The spacing of his speech is slightly awkward, there are pauses between sentences that cause it not to flow properly. That's the tell tale sign it's ai.
It almost needs a second pass of post processing or editing or something to clean it up and remove the pauses to make it hard to tell it's ai.
