Nobody likes being yelled at or taking orders. Drill Sergeants are the epitome of what Recruits want to look like. The discipline that comes with it is just to impress family. The yelling trains Recruits to overcome situations while under fire. Though this $18k Bootcamp is a complete scam.

As a Marine veteran, this shit is sad. No doubt some of these 'instructors' are ex-military and just could never get out of the mindset. They're aging and miss being young. It's pathetic too that they sucker in these young dudes and even worse, older guys into these courses. Any of them that are ex-military should be ashamed to be doing this.
But like Asmon said, sit your ass in a recruitment office and go through an actual bootcamp and you'll even get paid and probably get more out of it than you ever will doing this shit.

I think this is a backlash to what is perceived as the feminization of men. Too many guys grew up with single mothers or inactive fathers and didn't have any kind of guidance. And society (the West) has shifted to favor more feminine traits as time has gone on. I mean, you can't really properly stand up for yourself as a man anymore without ending up out of a job or in prison. So, it's not really a surprise to me to see things like this. Men want to be looked up to, depended on, and able to endure suffering.
It sucks cuz if they would do this they're obviously missing some sort of fulfillment in their lives. Spending $18k to larp for a weekend and try to convince yourself it was a transformative experience isn't the answer tho.

I wish I could do the Army in canada but me and my friend both got adhd, on same medication (vyvanse) and when he asked if it was even possible for him to enroll the recruiter said there was like 95% chance of refusal

Infact they have too much money.The point of these camps was originally to be a crucible event that challenged you mentally, it wasn’t about learning new skills but about how you react to adversity. Obviously the grifters caught on. The original was designed by the guy who onboarded navy seal candidates with a 90% success rate. These are all rip offs on his model, his name is Mark Devine and the camp is called Kokoro. It’s only 4500 dollars so this is a knock off that cost 3x as much, definitely grifting. Men need theses spaces though, it’s not our fault that 55% of the national electorate, women, don’t give a fuck about men being able to develope properly into a mature state and how that ensures better quality of life for them down the road.

@skaruts Huh, that's weird. I was paid during the 3 months I spent at Parris Island, 2 months at Camp Geiger for MCT and 6 months at Fort Sill for artillery school, not to mention annual and monthly field exercises. The military doesn't pay people for their training?

They are targeting married men (who are entrepreneurs and executives) with this, implying that they can be "better husbands and fathers" if they "man up." If something isn't broken, you don't need to fix it. But if you for some reason are convinced it is broken, you will spend all of your time and money trying to fix it and making it worse in the process. This happens a lot not just in psychiatry and other medical fields, but even various other professions completely unrelated, and even in interpersonal relationships, or raising children. In many, many cases if something is left alone, it'll eventually right itself. The problem is that many people just can't stand to leave it alone, and feel that they have to interfere with it in some way.
For this case in particular, it is a lack of confidence in these men. Why would you spend a hefty chunk of your hard-earned money on a pointless camp to be yelled at and taught how to "improve yourself" unless you're fundamentally insecure and don't believe in yourself?
