I remember a few years ago, a professional woman's football team got annihilated by a under 15's boys team from some random town.
A lot of people don't know that women are allowed to join the NBA, there are no rules against it.
Well, even if they tried, ofc it would never happen....
Their very best players can't compete with male amateurs.
That's not saying it's totally impossible, but first you gotta make A LOT more women excited for basketball, to potentially find one who could keep up with men.

Fun fact about the womens soccer team being "paid less," they were actually getting paid significantly more. Their original contract terms negotiations with whatever their players union rejected the lump sum agreement (that was higher than men's in the US) in favor of a benefits oriented package with medical, PTO, and maternity leave. They then did a huge campaign about how they were paid less as their contract was coming up for negotiation to apply pressure to the organization. It was actually really tucking clever

As a woman i totally fucking see it, while i don't care for sport or the kardashians, my mother eats up real housewives almost everyday of the week. In regards to women sports, a lot of this stuff is being fed to kids in school, I remember having a lesson in primary school of all places (elementary school) where the topic of women's pay gaps was discussed amongst the class and women football players vs men football players wages was one of the primary example. Obviously all the 8 year olds came to the conclusion that it's not fair for women to do the same job as men but get paid less, myself included but as soon as you look at the problem with a more mature eye, the answer is so obvious. A lot of women who bitch about women's football pay either don't understand how little traction the sport actually has, or refuse to acknowledge it in order to protect their deluded beliefs of the patriarchy.
For reference, I'm 19 years old and was stuck in the UK education system from ages 4-16, I have sat through countless of "PSA's" which i now look back on as inappropriate, ranging from teachers perpetuating and confirming the "patriarchy", discussing toxic masculinity, summing up complicated history to "white man bad" and "england bad" and even "america bad". I never fell for any of that garbage, many didn't bite, most didn't care, but the ones that do bite go onto become some of the most irritating people to be around, turning everything into a political matter.

I'm lucky to have some friends that also don't take the bullshit of this ideology, but some friends from highschool have and it's exactly as you say, walking on eggshells so I don't cause them a breakdown. It sucks that you're likely entering a workplace full of this kind of thing, but hopefully they're not too loud or annoying about it (probably asking for too much. I think it's to do with teachers pushing what makes their life better. And having a crowd of students believe and agree with your views must be a really good feeling.
I teach ESL and I have a kid who is on medication, and now he has become an incredible student. But it's like he has been neutered like a dog lol. As a teacher it's amazing because he is now a great agreeable student. But as a boy, it might actually be bad for him. But then as a teacher I care far more how he is in my class, than for his general well being as a human. Which sounds really horrible, but it's true and I think most people would say the same if they were speaking honestly.
So basically what I'm trying to say is, many teachers probably do these things because it conveniences them and makes them feel good, at the expense of the children. And for the teachers, it doesn't feel like they are doing anything wrong.
There was a great story on the Australian version of "The View" where the pay gap in women's soccer came up, and the one guy on the show, said it was because no one goes to the games or buys their merchandise. The women all started reaming him, and he simply asked "Name one female soccer player who plays for Australia?" "Name one?" All just blank faces. He then went on to name over half the team... Every woman who makes this point has never watched a game of female sport in their lives it seems.
I just found one panel discussing that subject (Calls For Pay Equality In Sport) and it's basically true. 2 ideologically driven XX, who don't watch women's soccer, are outraged that the players are paid less than their male counterparts and one "mediator" XX, who tried to reiterate what the blokes were saying. Whenever some woman says "I can't name 5 players, I don't watch (women's) soccer" the right answer is "Then you're part of the problem".
Right, it's like if you're talented but no one wants to watch you play, is it still really talent at that point?
Also, the idea that any male form of the sport should give up a portion of it's proceeds to supplement the pay of the female leagues... Yeah no. Be interesting and stop doing videos where a high-school basketball team beats a wnba team. That's not furthering anything other than the already tanked ratings and overall disinterest.
There's also the fact that when this subject first started hitting the mainstream they were talking about women's world cup teams. It was pointed out that the women actually made a HIGHER percentage of the overall revenue as pay than men...they just brought in something like half the money.

The NBA and WNBA debate can be boiled down to simply sales. NBA is like the #1 salesmen in a company and the WNBA is that 1 salesman that never reaches their sales quota yet somehow never gets fired but is complaining they should get paid as the #1 salesmen. In 2022 the WNBA made $60 million in revenue while the NBA made $10 billion. If you want more then earn more, simple as that.
and the thing is they are paying women more in football. i think the numbers goes like women got paid 20% of the revenue and men got 7%. but because women football have less revenue. ofc they got less money even they got bigger piece of the pie. and ofc thats what they are focusing on.

You say "Teenagers" as if 19 year olds aren't considered teenagers and aren't also capable of being fit and athletic. Now if it was literal children and not young adults, you'd be able to do more with that. Most money athletes make comes from sponsors. The more people watch a sport event or a certain athlete, the more sponsors are willing to pay. If Nike won't pay the team to wear their clothes, then Adidas will or any other company that produced sportswear. It's a simple free market.

I don't know any women who watch women's sports, at work there's a weirdly high number of women who watch men's football (UK) and i know some of the guys watch women's football, sometimes my dad watches women's cricket.
Bill has kinda changed since marriage, catering to her more.
And that's not bad, he lost his bitterness and grew. And the guy has mixed race kids - of course he has a different look onto race and gender roles and stuff now. But he obviously isn't taking BS from his wife and his wife is not taking his BS. It's not about "catering to", it's about gaining new insights and perspectives and challenging each other. The women’s ‘soccer’ team was offered the same deal as the men’s which don’t get employment benefits from their international side and to be paid per match. (Men get the employment benefits like health insurance from their domestic clubs). Instead they chose to keep their employment benefits and got a salary so even if they don’t play they still get paid.
You cannot complain about the alternative when you were offered the alternative but turned it down because you would make far less money on the alternative option. They would have got paid much less if they got the same deal as the men chose.
