It was really something to see how Chuck would stuff takedown attempts, or seemingly effortlessly get back to his feet against opponents that were seriously excellent wrestlers.
Chuck was the fighter to make me work non stop on my left hook. His torque and footwork. I realized the left hook was so much better than a straight right cross due to the quickness and less-telling punching technique. Tyson showed me how to destroy with body hooks.
I have my first amateur mma fight in March and I think my opponent is a wrestler. Thank you for giving me some good points to focus on for the next four weeks.
@@tommcalpine6062 tko loss in the first round lol, got ground and pounded. Got a lot to learn. I'm disappointed sure but just gotta get back up. Knowing that they got back up and kept working. My coach who I have a ton of respect for told me about his first loss. When he was cutting the tape off my gloves he says, "hey at least you're still conscious. My first loss all I remember is being ground and pounded and then I woke up in the corner asking what happened. Hang in there bud you'll get better." After taking some time off I've attacked my workouts with a diffrent kind of intensity, it's weird. I mean I've had focus in my workouts but even more so now. Gonna focus on grappling and jiu jitsu tournaments since the ground game is a huge thing I need to work on. @@SonnyBrown striking dominated for a while in mma, but guys like khabib is showing the power of grappling, like Royce Gracie showed in early ufc's. But i think the 5 min rounds, quick stand ups, favor the wrestle, striker, more so then the jiu jitsu guy. But jiu jitsu and grappling as a whole will adapt.
@@SonnyBrown actually I mean like more anti takedowns, escapes and defend teachniques also a study in gnp will be awesome, unfortunately in today mma world wrestlers used the heaviest gnp in the old pride days and early mma some jiu jitsuka literally try to kill u with strikes
Thank you. Another great vid here. And those punches are not truly karate punches, where in karate they are mainly straight one two strikes. These are boxing strikes, left hooks, right hooks, upper cuts, etc. Refer to my other explanation in another great video by Sonny Brown, about Randy Couture’s dirty boxing. Again great video wow.
For the street not getting taken down is essential in my opinion. You can't see hidden opponents. Sprawl and Brawl is the best way to end it and go home.
Do you have or know of any good studies on Fedor's Takedown reversals and scrambling? I see plenty on his takedowns, but it's insane how fast he moves in the scramble back to his feet!
Honestly, this is very good advice for boxers looking to get into MMA. Second to the flaw of not being able to check kicks properly because of a staggered stance, boxers often suffer from not knowing how to avoid being taken to the ground easily. To the point where if their opponent knows that they have a boxing background, they will almost certainly go right for the legs first to get an easy takedown. Being able to sprawl out of it and resume striking is leaps and bounds better than being taken to the ground where the skillset is nonexistent.
His overhand right was actually a good weapon. And pretty safe. Cause his heads way on the outside of the persons right side. So his heads in a safe position when throwing that overhand right
what a stupid comment. It took Chuck over 8 years of wrestling, 4 at the divison 1 level, to master the ability to sprawl on super dominant wrestlers. It's not just something that you pick up, it takes years and years of practice, and even then you're not guaranteed to stop all takedowns (Horn and Cotoure both took down, and subsequently finished Chuck). Seeing as Tyson had literally zero wrestling training it's safe to say he'd be handled like the rest of strikers that transition to MMA with no wrestling background: obliterated as soon as a decent wrestler gets ahold of them
I think if Jon fought prime Chuck, Jon would dominate him by gauging his distance and either using the oblique kick to wear down chuck's guard and open up for wrestling or clinch work for the finish.
Chuck was a great fighter.... he must have retired earlier than he did.... I saw and old interview of Connor McGregor, when he started he admired Chuck and even had his haircut....
When I used to do mma as a hobby, I had to learn sprawling. My coach told me to try and thrust my hips and chest and drive down forcing the other fighter into the mat. The toughest part was keeping my head and shoulders upright and straight. And kicking my feet back while keeping my stance. Most effective defensive move against the single and double leg.
Wene i was tiny like 5 i play ufc every time i playd chuck a kide at my school he bullys me he went fore my legs i let him then i hit liver 6 times my karate teacher sead you have a strong right hand
