I am a simple man, I see a Sonny Brown video I press like
Thank you, I appreciate such a kind comment 🙏🙏🙏
@@SonnyBrownSame here -excellant work.
Very good quality. Agree with you.
Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez use many of these techniques as well. Clinch work is such an important but overlooked aspect of the game.
Yes for sure DC and Cain are two of the main fighters using it today ! 🙏
@oliver closehoff I'd argue Greco-Roman wrestling might be one of the best bases for MMA. The clinch knowledge, control and strength is unrivaled. And if I'm not mistaken DC wrestled Greco Roman at some point and I know Randy did.
@oliver closehoff > too few know much GRECO.
the u.s.a. is the land of folk style LEG GRABBERS !!
@@summocommentaction3273 > use clinch and learn muay thai applications - both versions !!!!!
@oliver closehoff >> dum folks style stymies real greco !!!!!
"While the hooks and uppercuts were thrown with power, Randy was never really looking for a single knockout shot. Rather he's looking to build up volume and wear the opponent with attrition over time".
Dude it's like a stand up version of Ground n Pound.
Ha! I hadn't really thought of it like that. Good point!
Nice observation ¡
good point
More like stand, grab, and pound
So... Stand n Land?
Randy Couture is the ultimate bar brawler with this style
Randy was one of the best fighters I’ve seen in mma. Tough as nails. His style was relentless.
Do a video on Chuck Liddell’s strategy of using Wrestling to keep fights standing. A strategy used not only by him, but Justin Gaethje, Tyron Woodley, and Stipe
You are in luck as I already have! Check out the channel for the art of sprawl and brawl!
So, so fucking excited for this one.
Love your breakdowns of clinch work.
I agree brother
Thank you so much ! I hope you enjoyed it 🙏
It was absolutely fantastic!
A bunch of Randy Couture's instructional videos started popping up in my feed recently. They're pretty bad ass.
Sadly he never fought Fedor
Excellent! Did you know that pre-Marquis of Queensberry (bare knuckle) boxing also included upper-body wrestling and throws like greco-roman, and holding and hitting very much like Randy's 'dirty boxing'?
That is what "boxing" originally was!
Yeah, that collar tie type of clinch was called chancery, there were many versions.
Where Chuck is said to use Wrestling in reverse, Randy Couture really is the polar opposite using Boxing in reverse lol Randy's understanding and execution of Boxing defense regardless of his clinching is impressive and inspiring to see in MMA even by today's standards! I would have loved to see how Couture's usual style would have paired against James Toney's infighting if he had been capable of shutting down the low single!
Great work, Sonny. Really cool to see a martial arts style - in this case Greco - adapted to effectively to MMA despite it's limitations (no holds below the waist). One of my favorite MMA fights of all time is Couture absolutely rag dolling a young and then dominant Tito Ortiz.
Cheers Dan , Glad you appreciate it and yep that Tito fight was amazing!
DPS Breakdowns yeah he kicked the crap out of TO.
Really good breakdown and analysis on one of the most often overlooked skills the The Natural possessed. Great video. You got a sub.
Great video Sonny! I've been searching for videos on dirty boxing techniques
Thanks William, if this one does well I might do another one looking at Jens Pulver or Matt Lindland 🙏
MMA Legend Randy Couture .. love your UA-cam Chanel ✅
Well done. I really enjoyed watching. The man that brought me to MMA!
Awesome video and study, couture and huges were some of the best wrestler ever in sport, this video deserve more views, randy also practice and study freestyle collegiate wrestling and Nelson system that have influenced by cacc
Thanks mate! Ill just keep putting out videos and people will view them if they like. Appreciate the support !
Fantastic video. I love this old school MMA. You do a great job analyzing Randy Couture's technique.
great stuff. learning not only technique but the evolution of styles and their place in mma history. Keep up the good work.
Great to hear as I want to help people learn 🙏
Simply wonderful video and break down , your analysis of his methods are on point and well said !!!!!
Another great vid, Sonny. I loved seeing Randy get the tie against people - it almost always meant he was gonna get the better of the exchanges and he could work ppl over all day.
I just found out about this channel and I gotta say I love that you have jazz as your background music. It's just so damn classy
haha thank you! I do enjoy the lo fi! Ive switched recently to synthwave due to some of the lo fi jazz songs getting claimed, but Ill try and still mix it up.
Thank you so so much for this. Your videos are great!!!!😊
Thanks, great breakdown👌...A lot of hard work has gone into this one 👍
Thanks mate! I appreciate it when someone notices the effort :))
Awesome breakdown!
Really good breakdown of technique. Like your work.
Great analysis ❤👏🏽🏆
Beautiful video!
Great video. Great analysis. Wonderful. Thanks for uploading.
This is excellent. Thank you for putting this together.
No problems! Glad you enjoyed it !
Great work! Was reminded of the "hangers" Couture left after throwing hooks into the single-collar tie when Gaethje fought Barboza, they are still used and effective in the modern day.
Excellent breakdown and analysis 👍👍👍
Thanks Alvan! Appreciate the support!
U deserve a lot more subs bro.
Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks mate! Ill just keep putting out the work !
Great video!
nice ! thanks! 항상 좋은 영상 감사합니다.
Thank you ! 🙏
Awesome breakdown brother slowly expanding my game this was a very informative watch subscribed 👍 💯
Glad I could help!
Randy was brilliant
really well done like all your others videos.
Congrats
Thanks Luca !
great breakdown Mr Brown!
Cheers Pudisha, this is what we can film an instructional for.
I like the snap down, and the air hook, I've use a lot in wrestling, free style submission wrestling, Thai, and free style combat. I like the shoulder bump, too.
it would be fantastic more video about this mix between box and wrestling.
great video
Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
What really stood out about randy couture to me is that he seemed to have a bizarre ability to raise his game for some (but not all) big fights! Like he was always great, but when he fought Chuck the first time and Tim Silvia, his boxing head movement was just phenomenal, like borderline best in the sport, but it wasn't that way all the time.
Yep that Tim Sylvia fight he really stepped it up 🙏
King of stand and pound 💯😆
Legend indeed
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the video. Randy used these old school boxing tactics beautifully. Many people think this didnt exist in boxing but the facts are they did, going all the way back to the bareknuckle era and even in the Marquess of Queensberry Rules era, especially more before camera recording began where it became easier to see in replay what dirty tactics certain fighters used. The list of boxers who used or mastered these tactics would be to long to post here. Putting time into the research would benefit you big time. Many are lost arts. And many of the old school legends absolutely believed no kicks are needed, just a foundation of wrestling & boxing was needed and you could neutralize kicks quickly with body shots. The old time pugilistic fighters “men of steel on wooden ships,”, vice versa nowadays,😆 (there are exceptions of course), usually learned wrestling from legendary wrestlers & mixed it with their boxing, which made them vicious street fighters and is the origin of the MMA. I hear too many people stating Mma is a modern sport. It’ll only show you lack the knowledge of old time boxing and fighters like Harry Greb, Jack Dempsey, John L Sullivan, Choyinski, Jack Johnson, Fitzsimmons, Jim Jeffries, Sam Langford and tons others. Do the research please.
Dirty boxing is also pretty useful now in boxing as well. Roberto Duran used it effectively against the other 3 of the 4 kings and in more recent times the Gypsy king himself has been using dirty boxing tactics effectively.
good job, thanks for the video!
Thanks Archie ! 🙏
I naturally fight like this, appreciate the video I learned a ton
Natural dirty boxer nice
Brilliant.
🙏🙏🙏
very good analysis.
Great Analysis 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video thanks!
great job mate
I love me some heavyweights pull this style of fighting today because all we sees are just some wild strikes and haymakers and leg-grabbers. Not discrediting them but this just proves the fact that Randy Couture is a one-of-a-kind fighter because he has that skills and power to pack it up, with some cool unorthodox moves.
Excellent video
🙏
Awesome! Some of the best breakdowns in the business. Whittaker/Aldo TDD coming as well hopefully??
Thank you for the kind words! Yes I think I will have to do the Whittaker one before he fights Izzy 🙏
Great video, helps a lot. Regards from France
🙏🙏🙏
Should be called "dirty wrestling". Seems like only wrestlers are game enough to pull it off. Boxers in MMA tend to stay on the outside, in fear of a clinch.
love this style especially for stockier builds
Perfect for stockier builds! 🙏
interesting breakdown!
Ty man!
No problem Erik! Thanks for commenting!
Excellent
Thanks Baily!
Also my style. As the opponent even gets away luckily, I can execute kick. As the opponent parries and counter punch, you can have Mayweather style shoulder blocks. And indeed you have all the tools for takedowns from its origins, other than strikings.
Awesome !!! SNX!!!
This is really satisfying to watch idk why but I’m amateur mma fighter and I’m going to experiment with this
Glad you enjoyed it Andy !
Very useful
Thank u very much
pretty sophisticated for something labelled dirty
Exactly! 🙏🙏🙏
I love the music in start of video
Should be in the description!
Brilliant
I like your videos on various aspects on grappling. I’d like to see your take on Mark Coleman’s ground and pound.
Very nice!
Cheer Bobby ! Appreciate it mate ! 🙏
@@SonnyBrown my pleasure, great work! We should do some live breakdowns for your channel soon!
*Normally, I am the biggest guy at my Krav Maga spot and I use a lot of these dirty boxing techniques; especially when I am tired. Excellent breakdown...subscribed.*
Ahaha u guys spar in krav maga? How many people dead?
@@saifty3747 he never responded because he died in sparring
@@SkepticalMantisCHANNEL10 the only martial art that really works killed all of its ambassadors, or gave them enough trauma to not want to spread it
Overstated*
The underhook collar tie entry is moneyyy. Especially if the person doesn't have a good clinch game.
Reminds me of Roberto Duran
amazing amazing video. love this sooo much. you are a blessing for digging up such jems. if you did a nathan corbett video i would have to throw money at you on patreon.
Thank you so much ! Nice to hear that from the Paragon of Growth ! :) Whoa a Carnage Corbett video analysing his use of elbows in the clinch ? You may have just given me an idea 🙏
@@SonnyBrown clinch and/or boxing combinations into elbows would be fantastic! You are appreciated sir. also a video of how robert whitakker stands up from takedowns would be very cool.
Randy is top 3 mmartist in
history
ohhh its finally here
Hope you enjoyed it!
Nice
Thank you 😊
wow utilising his dirty boxing and wrestling, hes a smart technical fighter :)
🙏🙏🙏
Also Roberto Duran was a master at inside fighting or clinch work
Great video. Dirty boxing is so effective. Also you have the least annoying Australian accent, congrats.
Jens Pulver did a great breakdown of his dirty boxing style
Jens came up with the name I believe! 🙏
I LOVE DIRTY BOXING , USE IT WHEN I TRAINING (FLITHY MMA ) OR R.A.T. rapid-fire assault tactics ,aka BRUCE LEE'S (JEET KUNE DO ) MY (SI-JO) IS PAUL VUNAK (SIFU) MARCUS S.
Reminds me of roberto duran
0:16 Reco Roman wrestling, has to be some top notch, A1, exclusive grappling shit, cuz I never heard of it, how does it compare to Greco Roman wrestling?
You got the whole squad laughing 😐
How did he keep from gassing out? I struggle to constantly attack like that in the clinch. I feel gassed after just one wheel sometimes!
Greco roman wrestling+boxing=badass
all the people tell u about jiujitsu and muay thai but wrestling plus boxing kicks asses as well too, fantastica style for mma, it would be fantastic see this again on modern mma, i dont see too much clinch like this on UFC,
@@trujilloroldancarlosarturo4281what about judo+boxing?
That's genius!!
🙏🙏🙏
This is the technique I'd like to see done on Jon Jones and Isreal Adesanya.
The reason I like wrestling (I wrestled in highschool) if you don’t know too much about striking wrestling is always very viable
Great video! Glad I found this channel. I saw a breakdown video that I can longer find that showed an MMA fighter doing a half guard sweep/reversal (I think John Wayne knee tilt sweep) in an MMA match. I don’t think it was a UFC fight and I and I think the fighter might have been African American. Do you happen to know who this could be? I’d like to study that match again. Thanks!
Hey That was a Jack Slack video on the Giggler sweep! He removes them and cycles through what he has online though.
@@SonnyBrown - oh thanks! That’s where I thought I may have saw it but couldn’t find it on his channel. I’d like to study that more. I hope he’ll put it back up or tell me who the fighter is. I’ll ask I’m him on one of his videos. Or maybe you can make one?🤞🏽
@@theticoboy twitter.com/JackSlackMMA/status/1174678000786239489 So it was Mansour Barnoi . He actually has an instructional on it from BJJ fanatics.
@@SonnyBrown - Thank you!! 👍🏼😎
do you think his bout against Tim Sylvia supports that clinching even when you're the smaller fighter can work well?
Most people talk about avoiding the clinch if you are at a size disadvantage and instead shooting for more "reactive takedowns" (like gsp). I would use dc as a counter to that argument but I'm pretty sure dc is usually the heavier one in the bout when he's clinching a lot.
Probalbly not his bout against Tim as he really did his best work there on the ground.
Awesome analysis and can you make Lesnar-mir ufc 100 analysis ?
I might really be tempted to as there is some stuff in the second fight that I want to take a look at 🙏
@@SonnyBrown most influencing , second round Mir's arm trapped under his body mir defending himself with one arm , Mir's Mobility and defense are severely blocked.
@@ugurkaraalioglu2813 haha that is exactly the part I am thinking of, the stockades. As far as I cant tell its the only times its been used in MMA that I know of, I have a few examples of it being used in Sub grappling comps , but its an interesting spot.
This is what Kamaru needs to become
Old school boxers mastered this technique & some modern boxers also
it's real boxing baby it can beat any style
A lot more clinch work in old boxing! 🙏
@@SonnyBrown you should do a video on Rocky Marciano
Fedor
Jones
Silva
Couture
Khabib
.Top five of history
Valentina s. Does killer clinch work
Might be tempted to do a breakdown of her in the future.
Why Randy didn't use elbows as well 🤔
Randy has the secret to defeat knabbib
Still my favorite UFC fighter of all time!
An all time great! 🙏
Oh I've enjoyed beating up my training partners with these tactics. I catch necks all the time. Next on a mma-fight. Thank you
