AceRising I don’t have drivers issues with Linux I don’t know why people complain the only thing I don’t do in my Linux is gaming cuz I don’t at all anyway
Great review as always, Matthew. I had many of the same questions, and you answered every one! Wish they had put at least one USB-A port on this thing, that's a deal breaker for me.
Nice comparison. Since I use a tablet as a daily driver, I would most likely choose the X1 Tablet. Of course mine cost a boatload less than either of the two products mentioned in this video. But it gets the job done, I edit videos, do spreadsheets, edit photos on a...wait for it, $250 Chuwi Hi12 with an Atom X5-8350. But it works great and gets an average of around 10.5 hrs battery life.
Awesome comparison. Thanks very much Matthew. I agree that the X1carbon is definitely an awesome piece of machinery. One of the best business laptops and ultra books in general out there. You did not mention anything about the pricing though? Is there much price difference between the two? Would the X1 tablet replace an iPad + X1 carbon combo?
You're very welcome! Pricing for the X1 tablet is displayed when I show the specs. X1 Carbon pricing is in my X1 Carbon review but I believe the X1 Carbon is pricier.
I agree that the laptop is always better than the 'hybrid' version. I was all in on the hybrid device...I bought an XPS 12 back in the day with that static terrible keyboard. After a couple days I never again used it in tablet mode. So I had a laptop with keys that didn't move and missed a ton of strokes. Then I got a surface pro 4. Again, while a much better device than the xps 12, it was a better laptop than it was a tablet, and it wasn't as a good a laptop as an actual laptop. The main problem is I upgrade every couple years to the newest iPad. The iPad is a better tablet in all scenarios than a hybrid device being used as a tablet. And when I wanted a laptop, I had a hybrid device which wasn't a great laptop.
I've been using a Lenovo IdeaPad P580 (I just use it for email and surfing the web) and it's held up for years. I just bought a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen used from eBay. I hope it's not shit.
bad web cams for business laptops make much sense - you do not want any detail of your face to be visible on a conference talk - also data transfer is less demanding. For the fingerprint it is better to use thumb instead of the pointer finger when in laptop mode.
I bought X1 carbon gen 6, It is a terrible design really. You can check it yourself. If you use Ethernet gen2 cable which comes by laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Adapter Gen 2) in order to connect the normal Ethernet cable to the laptop, you cannot use USB-C that is located beside that as these ports are too close to each other and the design of the extension cable is too silly and thick that prevents you have two ports in the same time!
Very good vid!I can't afford this laptop😞..i m still 15 years old and have a long way to go!Anyways love the way u described every feature as always!Keep ur strategy up like this!
Krishna Agarwal I think of your use is for work/productivity the Lenovo is better. But it is more expensive. iPad is better for basic use and multimedia and has longer battery. You'll also benefit from the iOS/Apple ecosystem particularly if you have other Apple devices.
I do alot of freelance Technology and GIS work and I really need one of these lol. Right now im using an old 2012 macbook pro non retina dualbooted with windows 7. Currently looking to get this on sale or at some good discount because its expensive lol
To me X1 and T-Series are all becoming identical, I see no reason for anything besides a T series or better (not 4990 soldered) but ones with upgradable parts. Best keyboard order: T series, X1 carbon laptop, Not sure sure l about this one. Soldered is a disaster and I'd rather have a little fatter laptop to upgrade. Using an X1 carbon 3rd, I love it but cant upgrade memory on any model -- not cool. Only HDD, And WiFi, and perhaps screen (but not swapping touch to non touch, don't need touch at all).
0:58 You're wrong about the weight/portability. The X1 Tablet is actually HEAVIER at 1.27kg with keyboard cover attached vs the the laptop which is only 1.13kg. If you do a lot of traveling for business, you would probably want to choose something lighter/more portable, which would be the X1 laptop instead of the tablet.
It is the pen that makes all the difference...when it comes to tablet like device. I dont wanna buy an Apple product.....but nothing works better than an Ipad.
which tablet should i buy can someone help me 1. Samsung galaxy tab S4 2. Galaxy tab A 3. Galaxy tab S5e 4. Apple ipad pro 12.9 5.new apple ipad mini 6. New apple ipad air 7. Microssoft surface go 8. New Surface pro 6 9. Tab 4 10 Plus 10. Yoga Book with Android 11. Yoga Tablet 3 Pro The tablet should have keyboard and pen with it. It should have expandable memory. It should have enough memory for video editing and photo editing softwares, for taking pictures , for daily use, for watching videos and movies, for listening music, for reading books, on which tablets can i work for more than 10 hours on multiple programs without worrying about tablet getting hanged and with which tablet i can work with external hard disk and pen drives and can be easily carried with us anywhere on any trip .
What you need rules out Samsung tablets (galaxy tab S4, Galaxy tab A, Galaxy tab S5e), and the video editing/photo editing rules out Apple's stuff, and Lenovo's Android tablets, so basically you're down to the Surface Pro 6, or the ThinkPad X1 Tablet. What I'd recommend is, if you want expandable storage, a laptop (or a 2-in-1). What programs will you be using?
Hi, I noticed X1 tablet is discontinued and found out various complaints about the tablet on the Lenovo site such as display, sound, and battery-related issues. Matt: Bro let me finish my video
Win 10: Nah bruh, here we go!
That's why people should use Linux
Captain Java when al the drivers where available for any device (yes i look at you touch drivers for generic windows tablets)
AceRising When everyone would use Linux instead of Windows companies have to create drivers for Linux
Captain Java thats right (looks at my devices and recognize the onlz non Linux device is my Nintendo switch)
AceRising
I don’t have drivers issues with Linux I don’t know why people complain the only thing I don’t do in my Linux is gaming cuz I don’t at all anyway
Why not comper the X1 Tablet to the X1 Yoga?
Compering to the carbon is missing the point
TheWebInsight or a surface pro 6
Couldn't agree more!!
1:50 Pen refuses to fall out
Excellent thorough rundown of the advantages and disadvantages of the two form factors.
Thanks man!
How is the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Tablet vs. the Microsoft Surface Pro 6?
Great video. I've been looking and cannot decide between a regular laptop and a convertible. Just what I needed to watch. 👍
Thanks Shawn! Glad I could help
I think Lenovo do better in laptops than phones.Great video Mat
I agree! Thanks man !
You're welcome bro
I like Motorola
Do they still own them?
Adhi Suryana I think so
Adhi Suryana Yes. Motorola Mobility = Lenovo.
Hey man!
I have been watching your videos since last year,
And I am so glad that your video quality improved a lot.
Lots of love❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Sohan!!
What about the x1 yoga? I have had yoga laptops before and loved it. All the features of the laptop but still a good tablet.
Agreed. It would have been nice to compare all three.
it's nice in every way but the keyboard killed it for me, it was close but too shallow
@@jboxy have you tried it? Or just based on online reviews?
Like the review.
Just finished Bosch Season 1-4 in two weeks. Fantastic series~❤
Easy answer: The Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga: The best fdrom two worlds ;)
Great review as always, Matthew. I had many of the same questions, and you answered every one! Wish they had put at least one USB-A port on this thing, that's a deal breaker for me.
That's why thinner is not always better. With intel patent on extreme thin usb type c port we were yet to see the worse

They both look nice to me! Great video Matthew, kindest regards Richard U.K
Haha Mathew chassis is pronounced CHASS-EEE, not CHASS-ISS. All good though
Lol i think Australians say it chass-sis but that's no excuse for me
I was looking for this comment! LoL
@Alec Fraser I also say chass-sis
In the UK and Europe it's pronounced SHASS-EEE . . .
I chose X1 Carbon -- eagerly anticipating its arrival. 😀
Great video
That Windows update screen tho... 😂😂😂
Gotta get them updates in ! Haha
Love your attitude towards doing review
x1 yoga: *cries in the corner
Awesome comparison. Thanks very much Matthew. I agree that the X1carbon is definitely an awesome piece of machinery. One of the best business laptops and ultra books in general out there.

No. The X1 Yoga is the next closest thing, not X1 Carbon.
Wow Great Review again sir 💯
Thanks Christian!!
Liked before watching
Thanks brotha!
You reply to me on the live haha
they're both great and beautiful , build is great too, awesome video.
If you have a think pad use the trackpoint. I never use the touchpad in fact, it's disabled in mine
Very well said Matthew .. Keep it up 👍
Thanks Allan!!
Can you do a side by side comparison of yoga and tablet version. Maybe an artist review?
I agree that the laptop is always better than the 'hybrid' version. I was all in on the hybrid device...I bought an XPS 12 back in the day with that static terrible keyboard. After a couple days I never again used it in tablet mode. So I had a laptop with keys that didn't move and missed a ton of strokes. Then I got a surface pro 4. Tip of the day, use your thumb for fingerprint sensor that is on the tablet.
Better still, register your thumb and index finger or all fingers.
I've been using a Lenovo IdeaPad P580 (I just use it for email and surfing the web) and it's held up for years. I just bought a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen used from eBay. I hope it's not shit.
what about the X1 Yoga?!?!??!?!
Haven't reviewed it! But same concept but a convertible
Falls short on one of the most important features of a tablet / ultraportable - battery life.
bad web cams for business laptops make much sense - you do not want any detail of your face to be visible on a conference talk - also data transfer is less demanding. For the fingerprint it is better to use thumb instead of the pointer finger when in laptop mode.
Finally i couldn't choose which one would be the right choice for heavy programming and long time usage as scientific tasks.
So what is the answer? What is better???
Solid video ✊🏼
Hi Matthew, how stable is the keyboard on the lap? I work quite a bit on my bed

What is the music playing in the background during this review??? It is awesome!
Awesome review! I really want to know the song playing in the background during the review as well. Does anyone know?
Love you're videos 😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks Chandu!
Nice review. You kind of look like Commander Waterford from the Handmaid's Tale
For people who bring their mouse and keyboard all the time for me, I think it's pretty good deal
matthew is this worse or better than the i pad pro please reply im really looking forward to buy one ...
I think that if you want a easy use tablet, you ought to buy a ipad, but if you want to do something more elaborate you should buy the ThinkPad
Krishna Agarwal I think of your use is for work/productivity the Lenovo is better. But it is more expensive. iPad is better for basic use and multimedia and has longer battery. You'll also benefit from the iOS/Apple ecosystem particularly if you have other Apple devices.
Krishna Agarwal Bhutto
Nah, you must sell your kidney to buy this lol, it's 2x or 3x more expensive than ipad
And it can do a million more things
WAS THIS GUY IN DEXTER?
Can you use the keyboard on the tablet with both devices separated physically?
I do alot of freelance Technology and GIS work and I really need one of these lol. Right now im using an old 2012 macbook pro non retina dualbooted with windows 7. Currently looking to get this on sale or at some good discount because its expensive lol
Would live it as a student. Have you tried using it with the Razer Core?
No I have not
Matthew Moniz Do you think it would be able to sustain peak CPU performance even during long video editing sessions?
Could you review other cheaper Lenovo ThinkPad, like E-L-T series?
1:30 Matthew Moniz: better than Michelangelo
LOL I agree. It's a masterpiece!
The camera is good and I don't need to get my phone to take a pic? What an argument!
Didn't even show the tablet as a tablet. Kept calling it a laptop
Finally! A video that's not about smartphones.
Lol ya been slacking on the laptop reviews more to come !
Matthew Moniz Yes! Thank you.
Can you do x1 yoga vs. X1 tablet?
I want to buy a x1 Carbon but the Intel CPUs sucking right now :/
Lenovo's laptop has beautiful design, I like the legion y730
Hey, could you compare a ThinkPad Tablet and a Surface Pro? I'm searching for a new medium-sized device like those.
GThermopylae and don't forget the eve v
Ipad pro too
I love x1 carbon have had 4! I want to get that tablet. I like surface not nothing like thinkpad keyboard
I want a 3:2 thinkpad with a classic keyboard. I wonder if lenovo would consider that.

Yo amigo..pronounced “chassy” like “classy.” Nice feed merry xmas
Hi Matthew.. I need to know if the new x1 tablet support productivity module like the previous gen
Brother, need to know one point, can we use the X1 tablet keyboard in Surface Pro 6 model ?
Good afternoon everyone!
Good afternoon to you !!
Is memory single or dual channel?
"I didn't have any latency".
Proceeds to show very clear latency from the pen.
does the i5 tablet have a fan too?
2:40 is it a dead pixel on the screen?
Probrably some dust
Watched this on my X1 Carbon :)
Why regular thinkpad don't have 3:2 aspect ratio like the tablet one? :/

or u could just get a lenovo x1 yoga
Can you use an external camera on these. Its required for my school testing. Thanks.
No ir camera on the x1 tablet. They list it, but you can't have it and it doesn't come with it. Be careful ordering as their specs are lies.
It is the pen that makes all the difference...when it comes to tablet like device. I dont wanna buy an Apple product.....but nothing works better than an Ipad.
A really good looking machine with piss poor battery life. Typical Lenovo.
I gonna buy a used X1 tablet 2nd gen
Please someone who used x1 tablet tell me ,is it really good for video editing ?
Actually that design like MS surface pro looks so uncomfortable .that cannot get on my knee
Are you crazy ? Surface pro has higher resolution 2700 x 1800 ish
I agree pushing to the limits always is not good so I don't pick tablet version
short, simple, and to the point; love it.
Don't know man. I am too concerned about the mileage...
Crap, the bad forward facing cam killed it for me...
What’s the show you used to test battery?
How are the read and write speed of the sd card reader of the tablet?
They're both pretty nice
Which one should I buy?
Well let me see, which one costs around $100?
Lol you can get just the box for that price
love it
Thanks Jimmy!!

Thanks.
Where is ash's comment? Nice portrait of him lol
It's definitely art! haha
both are cool
I think your video needs more laptop and tablet onscreen time.

Can you try to get your hands on the asus zenfone 5 and 5z? They both have top of the line specs at a great price. Basically like the oneplus 6.
Do not buy this if you are just looking to draw. The latency is terrible. iPad Pro or even The regular IPad 2018 has would be much better for drawing.
