    I have been searching and searching for the reason why my car is vibrating so much. After new torque struts and transmission mount I think you guys have provided me with the answer. I changed everything you threw out in the beginning of your video.

    Thanks guys!

    I wish more ppl would point this out!! Good on you guys to do so... I found this by chance in my Haynes manual last summer when looking up torque values for the upper, lower & transmission mount for my '05 PT GT convertible. Used a zip tie that I cut to size @ 119mm vs fiddling with something to get in my way. The zip tie fits under bracket & lines up straight with alignment hole to center of bolt.

    Ok.., great video. Just replaced all 4 mounts and suspension on 06 grand caravan. All mounts in exact position as old. All through bolts torqued to chrysler spec. The front bracket for the mount under the radiator that bolts to the engine is slotted, with room for adjustment. Installed new mount exactly where old one was. Great for a month, then after some spirited driving, a popping sound that transmitted through the body drove me crazy until I determined it had to be one of the mounts. Put a jack under oil pan and slowly went up and then pop...., front mount. The bolt was still tight to spec maybe a little tighter but when I tested it, it kept shifting up in the bracket. I positioned the mount at the highest point to eliminate the issue, and it worked but I now have some cabin vibration when accelerating under load and at idle. Like the other gentleman said its not a Mercedes but this seems to be much more then normal. Checked all other mounts. The only thing I can come up with, is either I have a crappy quality hydraulic mount that just didn't hold up under pressure or there's a secret adjustment that Chrysler didn't publish in their manual. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...just subscribed!

    On my 2001 neon 2.0 this trick worked perfect! Thanks guys ,I bought this car a few weeks back and noticed it had all new motor mounts ,but this thing had a really bad vibration ,after watching your video and doing the exact same thing you did I can also say Wow it is shocking how something so small could do so much! Thanks a ton! ,,,,,,, you guys rock ! And by the way the neon is also the same hole set up but instead it holds a wire clip not a fule line, also check your plug wires for oil ,two of mine where bad ,from my spark plug sleeve popping out a tiny bit, again thanks for the help ,,,,,and great work ,,,,,it had me like h,mmmmmm this might work,,, and it did,,,,,,,🤓

    Good Video. I am working on a 2004 pt. I replaced all the mounts about 2 years ago. They where shot. I jacked the motor up a bit and just tightened the bolts. I have that vibration. I am going to readjust it using your method and will let you know how it turns out. Also when you replace the mounts there is a front mount that bolts to the engine. The manual says to move the motor back and try to fish it out. If you do a timing belt you can get right at the mount no problem.If the motor mounts are shot its time for a belt and water pump anyway.
    Thanks for the video.

    Not really a "secret" ...explained in any PT Cruiser repair manual. It is a step to follow when doing a timing belt /waterpump RnR. Easier/more accurate /than using a measuring tape is to use a guage cut from sheet metal. Cut a strip precisely 13mm wide by 119 mm long. Makes getting an accurate center to center measurement visual so much better. Enjoyed the vid...Best to you and yours

    Which is why it is called a Torque strut instead of a motor mount. After the Dealer, a MOPAR 'master' mechanic, and two hot rod builders not believing these engines can run without vibrating, I ended up having to do the dogbone adjustment my self....Very difficult not to own anything but a PU truck in south Louisiana.

I filled tank and ran some system cleaner in the tank...seems to run a little better but still rough idle..goes down road fine.previous owner had new valve cover gasket etc replaced and new plugs ,wires installed.

    I know this is an older vid but could you describe the vibration, was it constant, was it a small short vibration, or more slow heavy feeling wobble one AFTER you fixed the eng? my 03 non turbo PT has a lil erratic intermittent wiggle at idle, no eng codes. The intermittent part tells me it may not be caused by this misalignment, but maybe ill try this anyways

    What about the Center Motor Mount on the PT Cruiser? Didnt mention anything about the Center Mount? If that is bad, you'll have vibration there. No matter how those 2 mounts are adjusted. Although, to repair the Center Mount, you have to take the whole engine out. Can't fix it otherwise. Center mount it right behind the wheel well behind the strut tower. Pretty much smack dab in the middle of all of you stuff the timing belt works with. Sucks.
    However, I have a rough Idle and it dont matter what gear im in. New plugs, Wires, Mounts, Valves, Timing Belt, Water Pump, Engine and Head Gasket Resurfaced, etc. about a year ago in my 08. Vibration started with the changing of the top motor mount so I'm assuming that they are not alligned properly. But, I will also be cleaning my Thrtoole Body and IAC soon as that may be a cause as well. Thanks for the video and knowledge on this as I never even knew they could be alligned or this would cause any issue of vibration. Thanks Random Repair.

    • @Johnnyhernandez1993
      @Johnnyhernandez1993 5 років тому

      You don’t HAVE to take out the engine to replace the center mount. Just have to take out the crank pulley for clearance and then dance with the engine by jacking it up and down respectively to remove bolts holding the mounting plate. Then with a little elbow grease and persuasion you can get that center mount out. Also helps if you remove the 4 bolts from the exhaust to the catalytic converter for lifting the engine to reach bolts

    The PT stands for personal transport, sourced from wiki who claimed Chrysler as their source. I just bought one of these an 08 about to start chasing down a p0303 really hoping I get it sorted before I hit the intake gaskets. I barely know how to do an oil change and tune up. FML thank goodness for youtube. I didn't think a subtle misfire could have so many damn culprits. Here's to bad plugs and wires- Fingers crossed.

    • @justinb136
      @justinb136 6 років тому

      There are 4. Upper, Lower transmission Mounts. But, the one a lot of people dont know about is the Center Motor Mount. To repair this one, the whole engine has to be removed. Best time to do it is when the Timing Belt work needs to be done. However, The Center Motor Mount never really goes bad. Rarely does it ever. So, You may be good. All depends how good of condition the car was in or is in and if it was neglected at all. A lot of Factors.
