  • A very in depth how to guide on replacing and aligning the upper and lower motor mounts in your PT Cruiser. This video covers all years and models of PT Cruisers using the 2.4 engine (turbo and NA are the same). I also touch on the center mount replacement procedure and give you lots of tips throughout to insure a successful install regardless of your level of experience.

    Of all the videos I've watched regarding the motor mount your the only one who mentioned adjusting the distance of the top mount. It's the small details that will make or break a repair job. Well done.

    Matt you’re the best. Much love from Australia. You’re helping me to not only fix my car myself but also cope with anxiety. Despite being pretty handy, I always want to see where I’m going and your videos give me just that. You’re also helping me fix things that lazy Australian “mechanics” don’t wanna touch just because it’s a PT Cruiser. Thank you!

    Matt, you make the most excellent videos! You have given me the confidence to take on a project car! My neighbor passed three years ago. He bought his 2002 Limited PT Cruiser cash and its been garaged its entire life. Towards the end of his life he had 85,000 on the car and only put maybe 300 miles on it the last five years he lived. His sweet wife sold it to me for 1400. After being immobile for 8 years it needed a lot of attention, including the motor mounts. He had not kept up on the maintenance of a car with that many miles, so I was fearful. But step by step because of your excellent teaching skills this 2002 Limited not only has new motor mounts but timing belt, cam and crankshaft seals, water pump, radiator, radiator fan, changed the tranny fluid and filter, temp sensor, new tires etc. About 1,400. in parts and fluids. THANK YOU, you are so sweet and incredibly patient! By the way this car has a tranny cooler!

      Thank you for your feedback! What a great story and so nice to hear that! Yes it’s my understanding that a lot of the early ones without transmission coolers had them added under warranty.

      @@CarswithNash WOW, you are so kind to take the time to reply. I'm out here in California with all the crazies. The far left wing liberalism is everywhere. Makes me want to leave the state. The lack of integrity is rampant, even my workplace (Palomar College) is more concerned about "feelings" than doing a good job. I have always been keen on honesty and I'm appalled the way many mechanics treat people. People look at me and think they're gonna con me! I am an old lady so I am very grateful for your videos, you are very detail orientated. When I go to buy parts I know enough, thanks to you, that folks think twice about trying to sell me something I don't need. I agree that these cars have a bad rap. The cars just need attention due to their age and the era was different than cars today. Like myself. I think some people just don't know their way around the car. My other neighbor is a Master Toyota mechanic and the first thing he did was complain about it. Why complain about the miles per gallon? Its over 3,000lbs its a heavy car but THAT is exactly why I like it. The Scion xb of the same era is like a tin can. My Master Mechanic says the plugs gapped at 50 instead of 43 shouldn't make it run rough, what do you think? If I change the plugs (they were changed only 300 miles ago) I want to take the valve cover off and change all the gaskets. I have a tiny steady oil leak that has slowly dripped onto the mount arm of the new lower engine mount at the front . Its obviously been around a long time because the engine is filthy. Its taking all LOT of time to clean. Do you think the UV light oil dye would help me find the leak? Do you have a gasket preference? By the way I HATE the dealerships. I bought a part from them and then later went back to take the part back (lower power steering high pressure line). Out of curiosity I asked a Service tech to give me a quote on replacing the part. (It was replaced under warranty in 2004) The same part in the quote was DOUBLE the price and their entire quote was $1,200.! My deceased husband worked at Chrysler years ago and he said their Service and sales department are crooks.

    thanks matt for this video!!! my 2005 pt cruiser i bought a month ago I've already replaced the downstream oxygen sensor my self. along with a new battery. i had a my local family owned and operated shop replaced my alternator, waterpump and timingbelt. next is to replace my motor mounts. ill be doing the motor mounts my self!! I appreciate all your videos. I've gotten a lot done to it since I've bought. i restored my headlights on my own. and I've kept up with a good wash and wax. and shiny armoralled vacuumed weekly interior. my 2005 pt cruiser almost looks like I just drove it off the lot brandnew which is the goal. next too is gonna get my windows tinted. and get matching taillight covers. my passenger taillight cover is from a 2006-2010 pt cause the turn signal area is white instead of orange. i prefer the orange so cant wait to get matching set. my dream car is getting better by the day.

    I watched this video just so I can learn how to do the one mount you didn’t record

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  5 місяців тому

      Because that mount typically lasts the lifetime of the car, the only time I've ever had to change one was when the head of the mounting bolt seized up inside the mount and twisted the mount in half when I unbolt it, otherwise I have never seen one break apart under normal use. Anyways you would need to remove the access plug inside the wheel well and then there is a T55 bolt under that that goes through the center of the mount, then you need to get the engine jacked up really high to clear the mount so you can get the 4 13 mm bolts out and pull it out of the frame rail.

    hey Matt, tried doing this with an 06 Touring after installing new top and bottom mounts. Though when I go to jack up on the engine in that same location the jack is completely trying to lift the front end of the Cruiser. So I tried over by the tranny and still got the same result. Loosened both mount bolts as I should. Only way I could get the bottom mount to move was prying it though it didn't resolve the vibration by only doing so. Anything I could be missing? Thanks!

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  8 місяців тому +1

      I'm wondering if maybe you got some faulty mounts. Did it look like the joints were in the center of the rubber bushing on the ends? You definitely shouldn't have to put enough force to lift the car. My only other thought is that perhaps your car has had a crash in the past and something is bent a little? If the center mount is worn out it could possibly put everything way out of whack, but they typically don't wear out and the original ones are oil filled I believe so it should leak out oil if it was burst. If you figure it out please let me know, I'm genuinely puzzled on this one.

    • @jguitarz1
      @jguitarz1 8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, its odd to do that. It is like I am jacking the car up on its side to pull a wheel. No accidents that I am aware of and the mounts seemed fine. From what I know the engine should tilt back a bit whilst jacking it up a little. Going to go over it this weekend and see what I can figure out and let you know as well. Thanks for getting back with me! @@CarswithNash

    Yeah, but how do u get the middle one out, remove engine?

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  8 місяців тому

      No, you just have to jack it up really high, the same as when you change the timing belt. One day I do plan on making a timing belt video and then I will show it there. Pretty rare that you need to change that so I just inspect it whenever I change the timing belt and decide if I'm going to replace or run it then.
