Good video. I am suggesting to all that when you replace anything that has a rubber bushing or boot that you lube the rubber with a good silicone lube. This will keep the rubber from deteriorating / cracking .
Thanks for this video. I never would have attempted this repair myself...your video demystified it and I just did the change out. Took me about an hour because my splash guard was intact. Also, the end of the mount that bolts to the car body was just slightly too large and I had to file her down ever so slightly to get it into position.
Thanks for taking the time to video the replacement of the lower motor mount, this REALLY was a BIG help...I already did the Top motor mount myself which is/was really easy (Thanks to a UA-cam Vid that was posted) I just can't find out how to replace the middle one or the Transmission side mount on other side of car. And I know REAL soon I'm gonna have to tackle the timing belt, I'm at 68,000, even though it's only an '03!!
I was told at around 60k-80k, I did mine at the beginning of this year as a preventive maintenance...the belt still looked pretty good and I was around 65k. But better Safe then Sorry!
Justin Shiffler I looked into doing it myself BUT decided to have a local mechanic do it, I really got a great price, the whole thing done Parts & Labor a little over $500....It's also VERY IMPORTANT to go ahead and replace the middle motor mount that actually recesses into the engine well fender!!
Great video thanks for the step by step instructions, it gave me a better understanding if I should pay someone or do it myself, I am doing it myself thank you!
Thank you for making this video. I was replacing my suspension a couple of weeks ago and noticed that my right lower mount is very torn, and it explains why I've been feeling the symptoms. If the part I ordered had the correct size hole drilled for the front bolt, it'd have been a quick fix basically following the steps you showed, but tomorrow I've gotta track down a large enough drill bit to ream it out before I can actually fixer up. I have a pair of poly bushing inserts that're designed to fill the gaps left by the rubber, so I'm not too worried about having to replace this again, at least not for a while.
thank you sir! Other videos tell you that you have to remove the tire and the belt that's next to the mount underneath the passenger seat. which i don't mind, but looking at the way you did it seems less of a hassle and fast/easy work! Appreciate it!
I followed this video today May 2nd, 2015 as is, step by step and no problems. Now I'll like to see another changing the timing belt with water pump or the solenoid block (mine is leaking)
Do you know how to align the engine after you change the upper and lower mounts. I have the measurement and the schematic drawing and a description but I'd like to see it done. I can't find any videos on it. The measurement is 119 mm.
Good video on replacing the torque strut. I was hoping it was the actual mount that supports the engine weight, as that would include removal and reinstall of the mounting plate. I just replace my cylinder head gasket, cam seals, turbo cooling lines, water pump, and timing belt, and getting that darn plate back in is the hardest part!
i went to crysler dealer they say there's only 3 engine motor mount.. they said the center mount is the hardest will take 8 hours labor coz they have to remove half of engine but Idont know where is center is it at the back of engine or at the bottom?
Yeah I'm gonna have to do this just to replace the control arm on that side. The motor mount is to close to the control arm bushing bolt. Thanks for the help.
We recently took our PT Cruiser in for a tune-up. Then 2 weeks later something happened to the motor mounts and the engine came loose and destroyed the axle and damaged the transmission. I'm curious if the motor mounts are even touched during a tune up. Are they removed to make more room during the tune-up? They told us that the motor mounts failed and they don't know why and that when that happened the loos motor mounts destroyed the axle but a friend tells me that the motor mounts being loose would damage the axle (the opposite of what the mechanic is telling us). I also feel that when they did the tune up they didn't put thing back properly and that is what created the damage to our car.
I have a 06 Pt cruiser and I was just diagnosed that it needs motor mounts...the car was fine when I bought it but within days it has a stutter. When taking off befor it shifts it acts like it has a stutter and then seems ok..The guy wants 650. to do the mounts, thought it was a little high but will that cure the stutter?...thank you for your time
Dinise Hill I would get a second opinion, it could be a drivetrain issue. Stuttering or hesitating before shifting if I am understanding you correctly is not an indication of a bad mount.
RatchetsAnd Wrenches I was also told it could be coil pack???......had a machine hooked up to it and it read something to do with the trans. but I have no problem with that.....just this stutter when you first take off then it evens out and runs great. So confused
+Dinise Hill Definitely get a 2nd opinion. I was quoted $300 for one to be replaced by my mechanic that I trust and has done work for me before. Sometimes you can find a mechanic that does the work at his home garage. ask around for dependable mechanics. I am going to attempt this fix myself. One thing about PT cruisers is they have issues. I bought mine new in 2004 and after it was paid off is when the issues show up.
my lower torque struct has been in bad shape 'for a very long time'. Not sure if i should change all the mounts on my car, but my car does vibrate when i accelerate.
I have a 2002 PT Cruiser. When I hit the brakes I feel a slip, hard. My husband thought it was the motor mounts so he changed them. That didn't help the issue. It almost feels like something slipping or hitting when I push the brakes hard. Any idea of what it can be?
Those aluminum "motor mounts" are not mount but torque struts that control the twisting or back and forth movement of the engine due to the circular rotation of the crankshaft, flywheel, and other moving engine parts. Torque forces controls. I also used to call them motor mounts. It is very useful to know the difference. Nice video, nevertheless.
awesome video bro! i hane no mechanic experience at all and this is gonna help ALOT when i get ready to replace mine on a 2002 cruiser i just bought! thanks alot bro!
I was driving other day and when I tried to move it seems to be break engaged and have hard time to move, by driving eventually get a little better. I went o mechanic and first he suspected the breaks were ceased, but it was no that and look the engine mounts and both were broken and he changed but the problem still there. when I put the car in Nutural and you should be able to move the car by pushing it, but it does not and look like the something holding it. Do you know what could be the problem?
Great video! My mom actually just had her PT Cruiser diagnosed with bad motor mounts. That's why I'm looking this stuff up. They said $2000 to replace them because they have to take out the engine. Does that sound about right?
Karin6509 If all they are replacing is the motor mounts and they quoted you that I would run away from that shop as fast as I ccould, it doesn't require to remove the engine to get to these mounts. a reasonable price to get motor mounts on this car done at a shop would be in the $400-$500 range. Also you should look into replacing the timing belt if you haven't already done so, in which case the quote could go up another $200-$300. GL
I saw 3 other ask and no response question transmission mount where is it? I went to your battery temperature clip and you didn't say any or show anything on the the mount by the battery.
Great video Ratchets And Wrenches! I have only one question, I have read that after putting the bolts, you don't tighten them too much. You go for a ride and then fully tighten the new mounts. is this a necessity ? I have an audi A4 b6 2002 model. The mounts are hidraulic. Thank you !
I have a 2007 Nissan Quest, car shakes (motor) when shift on drive, It doesn't happen when I start the car, only when the motor is hot or drive for about a mile, I replace 3 out of 4 motor mount but still the same problem..
i have pt cruiser 2003 , after i changed the oil , got oil change light i rest the light as i watched in a video , next day got the change oil light again , sometime it shows in my dashboard sometime disappear !! also the engine light when i turn the keys half turn it shows in my dashboard , full turn it doesn't show , yesterday it was on with the full turn !! i really don't understand ! there is engine noise , it is too loud especially when you go up hill , last time i was fixing my car at my mechanic he told me i have to drive 50 miles before going the inspection ! not sure why he said 50 miles , any way i drove like 200 miles , then i went to the inspection but my car got rejected , they said something about there is no communication with the OBD car ! went back to my mechanic he ask me did you drive 50 miles ! i told him i already drove 200 miles , somebody help me , what exactly i should fix in this car !!
awesome video !!! I'm doing my research cause my 2002 2.4 needs them replaced...GOD BLESS YOU !!! I HATE WATCHING UA-cam VIDEOS FOR HELP,& THEY CONTINUALLY USE CUSS WORDS !!!
RatchetsAnd Wrenches thank you for replying and I had the top mounts done by my mechanic, I'm going to have him look at the bottom next. Thank you again
If you have a second person to check it while you hold the brake and press the gas, make sure you have two tires nicely blocked, or that could not end well.
GREAT VIDEO! ONLY ONE THAT WAS HELPFULL FOR WHAT I NEEDED THANKS I NEEDED A GOOD DETAILED CLOSE UP OF CENTER MOTOR MOUNT INSTALLED IM FINISHING UP PUTTING IN A NEW WATER PUMP & TIMING BELT I THOUGH I PUT CENTER MOUNT IN UPSIDE DOWN BUT COOL! IT WAS IN RIGHT AND A PAIN TO GET OUT BUT CAN BE SPUN IF UPSIDE DOWN THAT'S A 1ST ON THIS DAM JOB THIS WAS A BEEEEACH! I WOULD RATHER DO A FRAME OFF RESTRO ON A 1956 T-BIRD THEN THIS INSANE SET UP AGAIN THE BIGGEST TRICK TO REMEMBER IS THE MOTOR NEEDS JACKED UP & DOWN ALOT AND ALITTLE SIDE TO SIDE WITH A PRY BAR AND I HEARD UNHOOKING THE EXCHAUST SYSTEM HELPS OUT TOO BUT I DID'NT AND I HEARD AT THE DEALERS THAY DROP THE MOTOR OUT THE BOTTOM LOL! FOR A WATER PUMP SOMEONE WAS ON MEDS! AT THE PLANT OR IT WAS DESIGNED ON A MON OR FRI GOODLUCK TO ALL THAT TACKLE THIS JOB IT TAKES ALOT OF TIME AND PUZZLE PEICE WORK

well ya missed the splash shield bolts and sizes even if its missing on your vehicle in spots this rather hinders the mechanic not aware. I know they are 8 or 10 mm blots but at least you should aware the mechanic watching they are there and the sizes . Point out maybe, how many an where .
You need to adjust the engine position before you tighten the torque strut mount bolts. That's why the small end of the torque strut has a slotted hole.
I wish just ONE VIDEO would show where you put the jack exactly on the front of the PT. Can't find a single one! Nicely hidden behind the wheel here can't see shit.
Ridiculous! Not A Motor Mount Video. Torque Strut Video. I spent the last power on my cell phone thinking this video is for motor mount. These are torque struts his working on. Numbnuts

Best video by far that I've seen yet! Out of 20 videos I've watched. Thank you very much!
Great video.....clear voice and explanation. ...it would of been nice to test new motor mount on video to see change in engine movement.
Thanks for this video. I never would have attempted this repair myself...your video demystified it and I just did the change out. Took me about an hour because my splash guard was intact. excelllent demonstration. Having the same motor mount replaced on my 2004 PT cruiser this week. Thanks for the video!
That explains the problem with my PT Cruiser. Same issues. Thanks for this awesome video.
Great video thanks I will check tomorrow morning to see if I got bad motor mounts I got 2002 Pt Cruiser that I got Given from my mom :)

Just used this video for my wife's 02 PT. Took about an hour total. Make sure you put the car on a jack stand or the front bolt won't line up...
Thanks! A decade later! Great info! 👍
Great videos. Any tips on changing the center mount? And does the transmission mount have rubber gaskets as well?

Hey do you have a video on replacing a transmission mount on a PT Cruiser?
Did you find one iam also looking how to replace
Great tutorial. Thank you.

thanks it really made my job ease

do you have a video for the front right by timing belt ??
That one looks a little trickier!!!
what was the tools you used i have a 02 pt cruiser that needs new mounts and i rather do it myself than pay 300 and how long does the process take?
I did the top one in 15 minutes and the bottom one in an hour...just finished.
Great video, thanks.
I have a 06 GT Turbo DOHC and the front lower bolt is 21mm. everything else the same.
hooveygroovy np, thanks for watching!
muy buen video, me evacuaste muchas dudas, mil gracias!!!
thank you for the information very helpful...
Awesome do you have a video on a upper?
I have a PT Cruiser 2003 and it keeps setting off on me what should I do
It would have been very interesting to see the same tests after replacement to se hos much movement is normal..

you have a glorified VW
very informative.
I have an 2007 white or crusier and last night I let my mom drive and the motor started falling out n now we gotta get itfixed
Did you fix it lol
I have a 2007 Nissan Quest, car shakes (motor) when shift on drive, It doesn't happen when I start the car, only when the motor is hot or drive for about a mile, I replace 3 out of 4 motor mount but still the same problem..
Lazo VideosHD sounds like engine problem, have someone look for intermittent missfires and/or vacuum leaks.
great how to video thank you.
Great video thanks
Gonna do this job to my mother in law this Sunday..

Thanks need to do my wife's and this helped
Excellant video ! great job ve ry detailed.
What if it vibrates worse while ac is on and in drive or park?
***** It is probably still your mounts, turning on the ac probably just adds to the vibration.
RatchetsAnd Wrenches thank you for replying and I had the top mounts done by my mechanic, I'm going to have him look at the bottom next. Thank you again
