BARRACUDA SONG FACTS
-Heart got the idea for the infamous guitar riff from a song called “This Flight Tonight” by Nazareth. (they were not happy about this lol)
-”Inspiration” for the song came after some dumb MFer pissed Ann Willson off. April 28, 1977: they had just come off stage from their set opening for The Kinks in Detroit. There were hoards of people backstage for meet and greets as per usual… one guy Ann was talking to suddenly asked “So, how’s your love life going… how’s your lover?” Ann replied she and her boyfriend were doing great. He interjected with “no, no, no, you and your sister, you know what I’m talking about…” implying that there was an incestuous lesbian relationship between Ann and her sister Nancy. This REALLY pissed Ann off and she went back to her hotel room that night and wrote the entire song.
- Ann says the title came first - a Barracuda fish… “a mean, slithering, dangerous thing”.
HEART FACTS
-From Seattle, Washington. USA
-Formed in 1967
Ann Wilson: Lead vocals, flute
Nancy Wison: Guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals
Roger Fisher: Lead guitar
Michael DeRosier: Drums
Steve Fossen: Bass guitar

Being from Seattle myself and born in the early 70’s… I grew up listening to this band. They were very popular in my household then, and still to this day. We just saw them live during their last tour (Love Alive) in 2019 and it was a phenomenal show! Many people don’t realize that rock ‘n roll music in Seattle was around far before the 90’s grunge scene came about. Heart was the band that put Seattle on the hard rock music map!

Ann Wilson is one of the 5 greatest female vocalists in the history of rock and roll. Nancy Wilson is an underrated guitar player because she ROCKS.
Nancy is so underrated on guitar. Ann is a force of nature.
Still to this day she's legendary
Some stupid interviewer said to Nancy, that she was one of the best women guitar players, Nancy rightly told him she’s one of the best guitar players!!!
Damn straight.
Just one intro in "Crazy On You" from the same named live album 1976 backs up a whole lot of her sentence... 😎👌
Um, she's a great guitarist...not one of the best tho. ***Ann, however, is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time...of any gender. Her voice just cuts glass.
Thats dumb lol she should've just been proud.
@@iess2006 definitely
Best female band of all time. 50 years later and none other comes close. And you can tell Anne and Nancy just loved being on stage and performing. A great talent.
@ Kevin Rose have you seen their Stairway?
FACTS!!!
That would be Sleater-Kinney.
@@MrChristbait They have nothing on the Spice girls.
They weren’t a female band. Anne and Nancy weren’t original members but they sure made an excellent contribution.
She is Absolutely the GREATEST female rock vocalist of all time! Her range is unmatched even today!
She is easily in that, 'bet you can't do this' group. She makes it sound easy, bur boy it just isn't.
Check out also band Skew Siskin and their song i am goddess. Nina has some lungs too ;)
@@piirakkaliisa8340
How about her keeping that voice to her 60s
Absolutely!!! Sexy ass voice
@@cjturner370 I was just gonna say that. Hearing her sing "Stairway to Heaven"... she sounded INCREDIBLE!! 🙉
I was in high school when this song came out. The Wilson sisters were a force of nature. All the guys had a crush on them. All the girls wanted to be like them. So much talent. 5 stars! ⭐
I was also in High School when this came out!!!
"Barracuda" will always be in my heart. That starting riffs ❤❤❤😱 Salute to Ann Wilson's voice and Heart ❤️.
Ann Wilson is my absolute favorite female vocalist. She is a queen.
Heather: agreed. It is a great voice.
As a Seattle dude I'm super biased.
Yep I agree! With Pat Benatar right behind!
For me it's Joan Jett, Ann Wilson equally good though.
she absolutely is queen 👸. but a couple of princesses 👸are looming in the distance. one is moriah who can sang her & the other is melody cristea. I'm sure Ann would luv 💕both these girls
Fun Fact: This song was written in response to their record company spreading a rumor that Ann and her sister Nancy were actually lovers.
Truth. “Whisper games” is a direct reference to that campaign. This song is a fierce smack-down response.
True to a point. Yes it was written in response to the rumor of Ann and Nancy being lovers. But, as per an interview with the Wilson sisters, it was written after being confronted backstage and learning of the rumor from someone who wanted an interview but got butthurt that they had to wait and let the cat out of the bag.
Had no idea. Thanks so much for the knowledge. I continue to be impressed as hell by them. What a force.
@@siliconcowboy2010 And they were both banging the guitar players as I remember.
@@dirtydave1889Actually, Ann was dating the drummer...Nancy was with the guitarist...long before Cameron Crowe...
Ann & Nancy were me and my brothers babysitters back in 72' 73' while they still played Highschool gyms and over lake rolling rink. N.P.H. Washington st. Bellevue. ❤️ I was 6 or 7 😃
Caught Ann on an interview and she was asked what a good compliment sounded like to her, Nancy and the band... She said if someone said "They can rock" she's happy... Good Grief could they Rock...
Barracuda is my ringtone. Love it when people call me. Gotta jam a few seconds before I answer.
lololol love this. can completely imagine anyone hearing their phone, headbanging for a few rings and nonchalantly answering "hello?". lolol
Fckng Awesome
That makes ignoring spam calls a little more fun
Who would have thought that all these years later, the younger crowd would be reacting to this song!!!!
Isn't it amazing?
That's awesome!! 👍
@@WonderMommaOG Did You Know that Heart Started in Britain Columbus Canada??
The Wilson sister are rock Goddesses 😉!
1977 , this is all over the radio and I go to see them on a bill with the Eagles , Steve Miller and Aerosmith at one of the Day on the Green shows at the Oakland coliseum. I’ll never forget Ann’s voice on this . Indescribable, bit it sounded like her voice was rising into the sky . Powerful, crystal clear . I was 16
Concert of a lifetime.. call me jealous for sure... I've seen all of those bands separately.
I'm jealous!!!!!!!
So cool...
They are sisters and the record label started a rumor that they were gay so they wrote that song at the time reference to asexual acts between same sex.😅
Girlfriend (in '79), she invited me and and (many neighbors), to Ann's house (on Lake Washington).
Sat next to Ann, strumming my guitar... singing many Beatle tunes and Carpenters, etc.
Her voice moved my hair !
Many full Heart shows on my TacomaPaul channel. And many more bands.
👁️
Welcome to the 70's my friends, those of us who experienced it the first time round love to see the younger generations discover music that just wasn't interested in pop requirements.
cant stress how much i love this song
Ann and Nancy are amazing
Ann Wilson is without doubt one of the greatest vocalists of all time. In my mind you don't need to distinguish genders she is great at what she does period. Nancy Wilson is a great guitarist as well. They have been a great band for many years!
A ferocious performance by Heart proving again it's timelessness in crossing generational lines....come together...
50 years ago this song, and I still can't believe it, it's just incredible ❤❤
Watch Ann sing live at Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin. She did "Stairway to Heaven". Just watch their reactions and listen to how she sounds STILL!!
Seeing him cry at the kennedy honors when Heart did stairway to Heaven 👏👏👏 made me cry 👐🏼💜 they are just a great great band and have been for decades👐🏼👐🏼👐🏼🌸
@@Kimmielove70 oh I know!! It was so moving!
Ann has one of the best voices in rock.
Heart is one of the best bands ever. These ladies can rock.
Saw them live in '84 with John Cougar opening. Heart was so good live , as you can see, they blew the roof off the place. Ann belting it out like a powerhouse of beauty, and Nancy's hot ass tearing that guitar up, the Wilson sisters could hold their own with any guys and blow a lot of them out of the water. Heart rocks!
I’ve seen heart live five times, and they’re always fantastic. I wish more young people would listen to them. They have an amazing catalog..
I call them the WILSON SISTERS Band! Both are so gifted, highly intelligent & DROP DEAD GORGEOUS; they are Goddesses from our BOOMER Generation!!!
Yep. Absolutely one of the most famous intro riffs in music period. I always love this intro. People talk about things that go hard. Well this intro fits that.
We were lucky to go see Heart, back in the day. Awesome!!
Absolutely love Heart. Two beautiful women. With strong beautiful voices. ❤️✌️
Queen. And Hero. Back then no other women fronted a rock band. She still sounds great. And Nancy ....pure talent
Actually the first woman to front a rock band and play an instrument was Suzi Quatro AKA Leather Tuscadero. She could play, sing and rock, You should check her out. She was also the reason Joan Jett got into music.
Don't forget Chrissie Hynde's Pretenders!
@@marvinroos3520 Chrissie was was definitely way after Heart
@@danrice8845 check out the Liverbirds
Ann Wilson's voice rings like a bell. Not many out there who can do this.
That brief section of the sisters harmonizing is one of my favorite moments in rock and roll.
Ann Is A Lovely Rock Bashee!😍🤩🎸🥁🎶💃
Obviously the greatest female rock vocalist of all time ! Her range is epic and iconic! Legendary singer and songwriter!
Ann willson ... The best female voice
Ever !!!
These ladies endured a lot of garbage from the business and the media and all they wanted to do was KICK @$$!
Thankfully they endured the trash and made some great music
Besides the absolute awesomeness of Ann's pipes, Nancy's guitar, and the lead guitar, let's give props to the drummer's driving and galloping drum beat.
Love how the ladies' eyes light up when they hear Ann sing. ❤
Whoever put this together, brilliant job!!!
Thank you!
Heart does a softer but beautiful song from back in the day called "Dog and Butterfly"
It is quite different than the rocking Heart ....Anne and Nancy Wilson (sisters). Some found it hard to believe they did both songs. But live that song and really love that they Rock.
The DRUMMER is on fire🔥🔥🔥
The Queens of Rock and Seattle over 6 decades.....always looked out fr the Seattle groups ❤
Worked offshore oil for 30 years. We'd have 6 and 7 foot barracudas swimming under the shade of the rig. We never wore shiny things because if there was more than one barracuda, they'll strike quick to keep the other Bacaruda (as we called them) could get it. They had a mouth about 10 inches long with nothing but teeth. We could catch them with a spoon on a rope. But not the last one. He finally figured out there was no more competition. Sharks didn't scare us, Barracudas did.
Yikes! They say Barracuda's make you bleed so sharks can finish you off. 😅 This and many other things in the ocean are the reasons I only go waist deep in any natural body of water. Thanks for sharing that!
im a massive reaction watcher and THIS video is so insanely well edited damm well done
Thank you! It's pretty tedious, but worth it.
This is one of those songs that when you actually read the lyrics it's like, wow, it's definitely not what you thought you heard. It's wild!
The epitome of the 70's. Awesome and Perfect!
Ann Wilson is a beast 🔥Nancy is no slouch either
✌❤🇨🇦
Ann and Nancy Wilson are STILL rockin'!
One of those songs that keeps getting better as it moves along. It’s a rare occurrence.
Anne and Nancy are Rock Royalty!! Pure amazing talent!!
Wilson sisters are extraordinarie!
Ann Wilson is the lead singer and the lead guitar is her sister Nancy Wilson remember when this song came out in 1976
Actually the lead guitar is Roger Fischer, Nancy played acoustic on this song. Nancy was also the rhythm guitarist for Heart not lead, not taking anything away from her though because she's a great guitarist.
Heart started in Vancouver Canada . They moved to Seattle that's where Ann and Nancy Wilson really took off. I was a huge Heart fan. I own all their albums. Real vinyl records.
Fun fact. I got to meet Ann and Nancy back in the 70s. My mom made a custom Ovation guitar for Nancy. She plays it in the song Crazy on you
Wow! That’s amazing!
@@WonderMommaOG I didn’t think anything about it back then. I was 8. So I didn’t know why my mom was so excited about it. Knowing you made something that is gonna be played for many years in these women’s careers has to be satisfying. But as I got older, it hit me that these women are amazing musicians. I grew up in the greatest generation of music and I’ve seen damn near all the legends in concert. It hurts my heart that young people will never experience the magic and love. My dad took me and 3 of my friend’s to see AC/DC when we were 15. It didn’t matter what color our skin was. We were there for the music and it was amazing...
These are the Two True Rocker Queens make no mistake about it.Equally matched with Beauty Brains and Uncomperable Unique Talent to Awe and Inspire the world forevermore we all love you
Damn, it's good to see the younger generation enjoy our music!
No auto-tune, no crazy fx, no computers to cover up weaknesses, 90% of their skin covered, two of the most powerful, bad@ss, talented and sexy women in history.
Amen!!!
Yeah, agree. Nowadays music are garbage. I feel ya bro 👍
It's nice to see all my favorite reactors in one place on a really great song!
That voice man-o-man and the guitar on this track. Classic 1-2 combo
First you choose Led Zeppelin then Heart - Barracuda. Great choices for compilations. Seeing people react to these ladies. Love it.
I love Anne's voice and her moves.... very authentic. These girls showed the other girls how to rock hard..
Oh lordt, welcome to one of my favorite songs since I was 3! My parents took me to a Heart concert at that age, and I remember freaking out cuz I loved this song so much!
My favorite female singer❤
My favorite NON-MUSICAL part is at the beginning of the video when Ann Wilson SNATCHES the MICROPHONE out of its stand as if to say, 'This is MY stage! I OWN it!', and she did!!
What an excellent montage. I know this is a lot of work and it is incredibly appreciated!
Thank you!
Hey WonderMommaOG! What you are doing is a beautiful thing. I grew up as a kid with all of this music you are putting out there. It needs to be heard as well as respected. God bless.
Sincerely appreciate this! I grew up with it too! But I am 50. lol If you are a lot younger than that, then props to whoever exposed you to this magical stuff!
That was live, too. I saw them live 13 years ago at the state fair, and it sounded like it was the album version. Heart is an incredible band!
The best sister rock band ever!!! Ann and Nancy are the very best !
Heart and Rick Derringer was the first big concert I went to in Shreveport LA around 1977. It was a great
Ann singing. Nancy on guitar. They were sisters. From Seattle.
My mom used to just blast this song hen I was little. Blows my mind there are people that never heard barracuda
One of the reason Generation X women are bad ass and handle bussiness is because we had female rockers. These women empowered us to kick arse and take names. You are welcome 🙏🏾💜🥰🎶🎼🎵🎤
I usually skip reaction montages but im sure glad I didnt skip this one.. Perfectly put together A++
Thank you!
Heart is my mom's favorite band so I grew up with this band in heavy rotation in my childhood.
This song really does make you feel like you should be in a car race or action movie or something lol
🎵❤️🎶 Sisters Anne and Nancy Wilson have always been amazing!!!!!
I love watching young people reacting to the music I grew up with. Ann Wilson was probably my favorite vocalist ever, man or woman, and there's some very stiff competition. Nancy is amazing too and when you see her play the guitar even Eddie Van Halen would get nervous. I remember when this song came out. I was 🤯
Don't know much about Heart except,I love Barracuda. They did Alone in the 80s and best Stairway To Heaven a few years back at Kennedy something in America with Zep watching and Jason Bonham on drums...awesome version! ♥️🏴
The transition into the next song on the studio album is worth going back and listening to. It goes from hard rock zeppelin-esque driving banger to one of the most beautiful acoustic vibes. The two tracks together show the full depth of the talent
Was lucky enough to see them in concert in Tacoma Washington and I got to meet Ann Wilson she's a sweetheart
I would lay down on my bed and listen to them all night long back in the 70's miss them days we were free then!
IMO...the absolute best female voice in R & R!!!!!
Thank you for this, so fun! This song is legendary, iconic rock, period. A masterpiece
Lyrics are based on a scuzzy radio interviewer that attempted to make it sound like Ann and her sister were, well, having intimacy with each other. Ann was so angry, she wrote the song that same evening. The Barracuda represents the scuzzy interviewer, "lying so low in the weeds, waiting to ambush me". I read that the guitar riff is "borrowed" from the band, Nazareth, after Heart opened/or played with them at a concert.
The time it must take you to find all the reactions and sync them together so damn flawlessly! Brilliant job! Thank you so much for this ❤
Amazing !! real rock n roll ! hey little boys ... listen and learn
Great job. Not only one of my favorite songs of all-time by one of my all-time favorite bands, but lots of the Reactors that I watch often as well.
That was way too cool! I love that you save the chunk of talking for after! Great song, great edit! 🙌❤️
You would have loved the 60s and 70s rock. So many groups, huge talent. I'm 65 and still have sensory overload from this era. Keep ROCKN, keeps ya young.
Nancy is one of the GOATS of guitar
This is a fantastic edit! Great job!
Thank you so much!
Badass band and song! Love the montage of all you reaction channels! Much love and respect to you all👍🤘🤘
Great compilation video of great reactions to a great song,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
The Godmothers of Seattle music scene
Russell Wilson: 3rd best Wilson to ever call Seattle home... and he won a Super Bowl! 😄
Ann and Nancy are amazing!
The first ladies of hard Rock, thanks wonder momma, keep rocking this new year 🤘🤘🤘
Not just the greatest female voice in music history but top 5 vocalist of all time
Props on the compilation 👏. Keep them coming!
Thank you! Almost finished with the next one. 😬
As a huge Heart fan, I really loved this! Check them out paying tribute live to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center. Stairway to Heaven! Best cover ever!
Thank you. That one is definitely on my list! I’ve heard it lots of times but there are great reaction from those who haven’t.
Even made Robert Plant tear up
Absolutely Plant influence, and Cornell's!
