You should've seen it live from the front row in 1985. I was with six of my best friends in HS singing along with 10,000 others. Time kind of stood still and we had the time of our lives. That song and their albums were part of the soundtrack of my HS days. Even though it's probably the most overplayed hit by Aerosmith as far as radio goes...you can totally understand why.

But time changes us, and today in my fifties I consider this one of the best songs of the Seventies-- and one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. I eventually came to understand the sentiment, and it blows my mind that someone so young, lead singer Steven Tyler, could pen such deep and profound lyrics ... I mean, looking in the mirror at the wrinkles becoming deeper, and trying to cherish one's time today because any day now God can call you home. Just, wow. It sure has stood the test of time. * For the Youngins- a 45 was a small vinyl record, approx 6" across, that had one song on each side. The hole in the center was much larger than on an LP (Long Play) record approx 12" diameter, so an adapter was needed to mount the disc on the turntable ...why? Dunno, one of life's mysteries. It is called a 45 because you had to play it at 45 RPMs (Revolutions Per Minute). Your turntable had to have the capability of playing at various speeds because the larger LPs played at 33 1/3 RPMs, and could hold abou 23 minutes per side. This concludes today's lesson on how weird the past was
