And to fully appreciate this band, beyond their ability to rock, please check out their folk pop/ acoustic songs "Dog and Butterfly", "Love Alive", and "Dreamboat Annie". You'll get to hear just how intricate the Wilson Sisters' harmonies really are. ❤
They were so young here, and with incredible talent. This was 1977. I remember going to the Record Bar, and buying their album in 1977 at the age of 17.
The story on the writing of this song goes like this. Ann and Nancy Wilson were at record company party of some sort when one of the sleazy slimy record company executive asked Ann "How is your lover?" Ann thought he meant her boyfriend at the time. So she said he's fine and the scum bag replied no I mean your lover your sister how's your lover? This pissed Ann off and that very night she wrote Barracuda! And the rest is history! Love that you are going down the Heart rabbit hole! They have so many great song! What About Love, and if you want to hear Nancy take the lead in some songs, These Dreams, Stranded, and Will You be There in The Morning. You really can't go wrong with Heart! Cheers!

This is from their third album Little Queen. Saw them way back in '77 in the old Richfield collosium near Cleveland. No one sat down during the whole concert!!! Ann is POWERHOUSE!!!
Barracuda was iconic when it came out. Mainly for the unique guitar riffs. I loved it then and I love it still. And I admit that Ann was an eye's treat for that young man I was back then. But yeah, the entire song was just electrifying when I first heard it on the radio. I wasn't able to distinguish Ann's voice and artistry as I do now which is kinda sad. But I loved to rock along with that masterpiece.
Well I grew up with this and I even had an older cousin that would watch them Jam over the lunch hour at his high school once in awhile in Washington state, and everybody was buying Ovation acoustic guitars, and I never get tired of this. You are right. That and Magic Man and crazy on you and other stuff. It just always sounds so good to me and feels so good
I lived Seattle in the late 70's, I became a fan in 77 when I heard the Dreamboat Annie album and to this day there is no other female voice in rock that can touch the power and range of Ann but if you listen to some of their minstrel sounding albums like Little Queen or Dog & Butterfly where the sisters blend harmonies with acoustic sound that is simply beautiful and pure. I ran down to Rainy day records in Olympia Wa right after school my senior year in 78 the day the D&B album was released. I couldn't wait to hear it and found a friend with a turntable where we both sat and listened intently. The way that they blend hard rock and soft ballads on every album is one of the reasons for their long success. I saw them in 1980 on the Bebe La Strange`tour where they rocked the Tacoma dome a local venue. I have so many favorites, if I had to pick a favorite song, I would have to go back to 1st album Dream Boat Annie (as a young man, Annie was a dreamboat) and choose a song that is very underrated in their catalog. The song is White Lightning and Wine and it has a funky guitar start and Ann delivers some great screams in this rockin' track. Who doesn't like the use of a cowbell giving it a time stamp of sorts for the 70's? Take time to watch the Kennedy Center honors of Led Zeppelin and see the intensity at which the band listened to Hearts performance of Stairway to Heaven with the added feature that really excited the members of Zeppelin with Hearts rendition. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/v-deo.html
Another great choice. Ann Wilson has a killer set of pipes. And she (and the band) can shift effortlessly between soft songs like “Dog And Butterfly” and straight-ahead rockers like this one. I fell in love with their driving “Black On Black” but I’m not sure if it was ever released as a single. Also, side note, this is the studio audio track, over (semi-) live visuals. Don’t enjoy hearing “washed up”. We don’t know that part of your life, and don’t like hearing you described that way. It doesn’t describe what we’re seeing here on the Tube. Enjoying your new part-time contributor! Take good care of him. Love the ferocity in that Twitch clip! Remember, check out Two Steps From Hell ~ “Dragonwing” will take you for a ride.
Ann Wilson is my favorite female rock vocalist. Here are some of the great songs they recorded in the late 1970s... Crazy On You, Magic Man, Dreamboat Annie, Love Alive, Kick It Out, Heartless, Straight On, Mistral Wind, Dog And Butterfly, Even It Up. Stacey - I think you would probably enjoy all of these.
Another song with a similar background riff is "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks. Both Heart and Stevie were part of the female power rock explosion in pop music during the '70s and '80s, along with Blondie (Debbie Harry), Joan Jett and others. Being a teenager in the '70s, the BEST (and wildest) girls to date were those who were Heart fans!
Barracuda has always been part of one's rock n roll road trip playlist. Along with similar classics like "American Woman" (The Guess Who), "Highway Star" (Deep Purple), "Smoke on the Water" (Deep Purple), "Let It Ride" (BTO), "More Than A Feeling" (Boston), "Stone Cold Crazy" (Queen), "Keep Yourself Alive" (Queen), "Life Is a Highway" (Tom Cochrane), "Oowatanite" (April Wine), "Free Ride" (The Edgar Winter Group), "I'd Love To Change the World" (Ten Years After), "Listen to the Music" (The Doobie Brothers), "China Grove" (The Doobie Brothers), "Paranoid" (Black Sabbath), "My Own Way to Rock" (Burton Cummings), "Lunatic Fringe" (Red Rider), "Tush" (ZZ Top), "Legs" (ZZ Top), "Stay With Me" (The Faces), "Sweet Home Alabama" (Lynyrd Skynyrd), "I Know A Little" (Lynyrd Skynyrd), "Rockin' In the Free World" (Neil Young), "Rock n Roll Hootchie Koo" (Rick Derringer), "Helter Skelter (The Beatles), "Rock and Roll" (Led Zeppelin), "Ballroom Blitz" (The Sweet), "Girls School" (Paul McCartney & Wings)....to name a few. Heart fit right in with all these iconic bands and singers.
BTW; Ann Wilson is a big Floor Jansen fan and Floor is a big Ann Wilson fan. Just imagining what the two of them would sound like on stage gives me goosebumps.
I'm so grateful I had this kind of music when I was growing up in the late 60s 70s and early 80s. If music back then was like it is now I wouldn't have had any music in my life at all.
I agree about Ann's voice. Her voice is clear, powerful with very good enunciation. I can understand the words she's singing. She has excellent control over her voice.
Can remember when this first came out 1975 was not available in the UK only as a very expensive import , but had to buy it . Was just blown away by the band on first time hearing . Was lucky enough to meet them in 1988 when they played London at an after party , really great people .
Being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself, I've always liked their earlier stuff more. Their later music was good too, but the original band members from the earlier albums and what they wrote was so hot! Your reaction was great! Her sister Nancy played some lead guitar but the main lead guitar playing was by the older band members which were Roger Fisher and Howard Leese (Howard also played keyboards and synthesizer) That's Roger playing lead here on this song.
Hi Stacey, thanks for the replies. I was trying to get the Telegram platform but I'm having trouble with it. So, if you have another form please let me know. In the meantime since you like great vocalist, I have another one for you. Listen to the band Queensryche and their song titled " Take Hold of The Flame", live from Tokyo 1984. The singer is Geoff Tate and he has a 4 octave vocal range ( which is very high for a Male vocalist) The song and the other band musicians are great as well. I think that you will like it.
Great reaction!! The more you listen to Heart, the more you'll come to be in awe of the Wilson sisters! Ann is a powerhouse vocalist, Nancy is a fantastic guitarist (and vocalist in her own right - both on harmonizing with her sis & on some songs where she gets lead!! Check These Dreams!). Future considerations: Never, Crazy On You, Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer (you'll really here how amazing they both are!), Who Will You Run To, Soul Of The Sea....for starters... Have loved this group since my sister got me into them when I was 5...WAYYYYY back in 1983...so been loving them for a long, LONG time! Cheers.
Beyond cool...vocals and guitar. Put's me in mind of my favourite old Queen songs like 'Keep Yourself Alive' and 'Now I'm Here'. Nothing beats being a 70s child :-)
If you want to listen to another great female artist! Try this hidden gem from Canada Sass Jordan! Anything off her Rats CD is excellent, but try high road easy!
Barracuda is their most well-known song. But they have so many great songs that are criminally underrated. They are so diversified and their songwriting abilities were off the charts. Two songs I always recommend are Dream of the Archer and Minstral Wind. If you do give them a listen, I would suggest listening to the live versions. Dream of The Archer - 1995 The Road Show performance and Minstral Wind Live in Seattle, 2002.
Stacey, this is early Heart 1977. This came out on their 2nd album "Little Queen". Their first album "Dreamboat Annie" came out in 1976. 70'S Heart was their best era in my opinion. Have a great day! I really enjoy your heartfelt reactions.
Love your reaction to this awesome band. I am a man in my 70’s and thru the years I have gone from 8-tracks to cassette to cd’s to downloading music and Heart has been with me all the way. Very much appreciate your love for these ladies. As others have said, straight on, crazy on you, magic man and others are waiting for your enjoyment and reactions. Keep up the good work.
If you are reading this Stacy, AND you decide to react to "Crazy On You" next, you simply must watch the earlier live version when Nancy gives the opening intro ...SImply amazing guitar work!!! See it here: ua-cam.com/video/XKJbyK4NTek/v-deo.html
If you're liking what you're seeing with Heart so far, you should find the live version of "Crazy On You" with the long acoustic intro by Nancy Wilson. There are a few versions out there but I think there's only one with the full acoustic intro... I think it may have been from this same performance, but maybe not.. it was definitely the same time frame...
The 1978 version begins with "Silver Wheels" before segueing into the intro for "Crazy on You". That complex acoustic solo is one of the most entrancing setups in live rock history.
Stacy, Heart ❤️ is and always will be a rock n roll heavy weight!! Ann's voice is truly unique and motivating, I'm really glad you appreciate their music, Keep learning and keeping discovering a lost musical time in history
Such a great song. Ann Wilson wrote the lyrics and the music was written by lead guitarist Roger Fisher, drummer Michael Derosier and acoustic guitarist Nancy Wilson.
I never saw Heart live, but I got a very cool experience once in around the mid or late 2000s. Roger Fisher (lead guitar) was in a band called The Geofrey Castle Band and they played a gig in a very small venue with Mike Derrosier (drums) sitting in. It was such a small venue there was no stage and we were sitting only about 20 feet from Roger, at most. It was a lounge with little round tables so no rows of seats. I got some autographs and hung out a bit with them but frankly I had trouble finding things to say. Oh and in addition to their new stuff we were treated to Barracuda. Roger was still in amazing shape and agile and looked not much older than back then. He also sounded awesome too. Mike looked a lot different with short hair and a moustache and a few pounds heavier, like the rest of us, lol. They were very nice and friendly. I wish I had a video of that show.
Ann's three octave range is legendary. Karen Carpenter was another female lead singer that had that type of range and pitch perfect voice in the easy listening category.
Ann Wilson and Floor Jansen, in my humble opinion, are the greatest singers to ever record music! Another beautiful reaction! Doesn't get any better than Ann, Nancy, and you on the same screen, lol! Blessings to you!
How scary is this I had just bought a 1969 Barracuda as a senior in high school. This song had just been released. Here I am flying down the road in this bad ass car, when this song comes over the radio. I was really? Standing on the brakes so I could get out and listen to it without killing myself. What memories the 70's.
Agree 100% Ann Wilson had/ has such a strong iconic voice that you almost have to review her material, however if I could - Perhaps you could check out Lzzy Hale. Especially the recordings with Adrenaline Mob and Russell Allen, or even her own bands Halestorm etc. and after that Rik Emmett of Triumph, Geoff Tate of Queensryche just to name a few.
Me and my boys were chillin' in the 8th grade in 1977/78 rockin'out to Ann and Nancy and Heart❤. What a TIME it was. To this day they are STILL smokin'the tunes........
YES!! Barracuda was written because one of their producers tried to sell the Wilson sisters as an incest couple. They didn't put up with that bull and made this song. The barracuda is him- Do Magic Man and Crazy On You next!
My three favorite female singers in chronological order, i.e. the order in which I first heard them, are Linda Ronstadt, Ann Wilson and Angelina Jordan.
Haven't heard Jordan, but your 1st two are undeniable. Also check out Karen Carpenter = PERFECTION/ accurate; hits the notes possibly more precise on the scale than any other singer in history. And plays the drums like a bastid. I think the most talented female voice I've ever heard is Alanis Morrisette. The insane things she can do with zero effort are beyond human. And But the one who has made me cry the most from the amazing beauty is Celine Dion. And Dolores O'Riordan ain't far behind.
@@mick-i3y Yes: One-Take Karen, who started as a virtuoso jazz drummer, and only took lead vocal at 16 or so because Richard Carpenter and John Bettis wanted her to front the group. Drumming remained her first musical love.
Speaking of one-take wonders, there is a very short clip (29 sec), titled, "Stargate's Mikkel Eriksen talking about Angelina Jordan". She's sitting there while he tells her: "There's only that many vocalists in the world that can sing a song, top to bottom in one take, and it's amazing. Few of those people that we work with is 1: Beyonce, 2: Sam Smith, 3: Angelina Jordan. That is so rare, a gift and very, very special.". She seems a little embarrassed by it, but so well deserving of the praise.
@@DanielByers-qf9qiFrom Wikipedia: "Angelina Jordan (born Angelina Jordan Astar; 10 January 2006) is a Norwegian singer whose audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at the age of seven, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday, became a viral video online and brought her worldwide press coverage.[1] She went on to win the competition at the age of eight with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". Since then, she has worked to raise money on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world." Her family turned down many offers from recording companies because they wanted her to have a normal childhood. She eventually signed with Republic Records in 2020 at the age of 14 with the understanding that she finishes school before being promoted. In the meantime, they built her a studio for her personal use. She has now graduated high school and turned 18 on Jan 10, and will appear in Las Vegas on Feb 29th in the same room where Elvis performed.
By the way, piece of guitar trivia: Chuck Berry was the first guitar player to make it a lead instrument. This is one of the many reasons he was the first person inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. Before him it was always a backup instrument.
Great choice for a Heart reaction! One of their best. That is Michael Derosier on drums, and you're right, he's excellent. The guitar solo you enjoyed is by Roger Fisher, a tremendous guitarist. He has a UA-cam video, where he explains how this song was created, since you're interested in the creation of this song. You might want to check that out. Please keep reacting to these classic bands, really enjoy your reactions.
Ann Wilson has been regarded as the Queen of Rock ever since the mid '70s. Always on nearly everyone's top female vocalists lists, and often at #1. In fact it is said that after the breakup between Eddie VanHalen and David Lee Roth in '85 Eddie considered her for his replacement before Sammy Hagar. Kind of interesting to contemplate what that might have been like, but I'm glad it didn't happen.
Heart was often called a female Led Zeppelin (usually not as a criticism). It was somewhat true; they covered many L.Z. songs, and the Wilson sisters were chosen to perform "Stairway to Heaven" at the now-legendary Kennedy Center Tribute. But they took that prog/metal quality and forged their own sound. "Dreamboat Annie" is an exceptional concept album, musically, lyrically, and in terms of production and recording. It was one of the early rock choices for a Half-Speed Master audiophile release; it remains one of my favorite albums ever. P.S. Roger Fisher (lead guitar) and Michael Derosier (drums) deserve more credit for the masterful, innovative sound of the first Heart incarnation.
Your P.S. is so spot-on. Usually all anyone talks about is Ann and Nancy. Of course they’re well worth talking about and praising, but there’s these guys there on stage with them… they’re not invisible.
I'm glad you enjoyed this what a band. She's the best rock and roll singer of all time bar none they have a lot of good songs . There's a song that nobody plays and I think it's the best song on the Dreamboat Annie album it's called Sing child I would appreciate if you would play that song. Keep up the great work love watching you you are a real sweetheart

Best female rockers in rock history! I've seen them in concert twice back in the 1980's. Ann Wilson is still killing it to this day! Crazy on You, is probably my favorite of theirs, with Nancy's extended acoustic intro. Definitely worth checking out!! Thanks Stacey!😍👍👍
This is Heart at their iconic best. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are two of the greatest rockers of the 70's. The only problem was that they tended to overshadow the rest of the band who were outstanding in their own right. They re-invented themselves a couple of different times especially going into the 80's and adopting more of a 'hair band' image, but they still rocked. But by that time, most of the band had left. Another great song "Crazy on You", along with others like "Dream Boat Annie", "All I Want to Do (Is Make Love to You)" will give you a different side of them.
If you want to hear how beautiful and then just how hard Heart can rock, listen to "Dreamboat Annie" followed by "Crazy on You" - - - - - Crazy on You is Hearts signature song. When it hit the streets nobody could believe it. I've mentioned this before, out of prolly 75 to 80 concerts I've seen, Heart is still in my top 3. Huge respect to both of these women for what they did in the Rock n Roll world and when they did it. They took a backseat to nobody
When I first heard "Crazy on You", I thought, Finally, a woman who does flat-out hard rock and does it as well or better than any male. Ann Wilson instantly became one of my two all-time favorite female voices in pop/rock, along with Karen Carpenter (who was actually a smooth jazz drummer and singer).
This was my 1st Heart song I heard on the radio as a kid. I thought it was heaviest song ever (I hadn’t found Sabbath yet). They had a great rabbit hole. Straight On, Magic Man & Crazy On You are next 3 songs
When I was in high school my best friend learned how to play this song on the guitar. He was so talented and recently passed away. This song always makes me think of the first time he played it. Please do the live version on “Crazy on You” next. “These Dreams,” is another 80’s song but featuring Nancy on vocals.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this magical band. You are correct this song will stay in your head now forever! I know this for a fact because it's been in my head since it came out. Keep enjoying your musical journey.
And remember, this is the same woman who went on to nail Stairway in front of Led Zeppelin nearly forty years later, at age sixty-two. Ann is now seventy-three, and still killing it. She's a national treasure.

Ann was absolutely salty when she wrote this one. Good for her because this shit ROCKS
I was about to type out the back story , and saw your comment. Thanks for saving me the time of explaining it, well done buddy
Any band with a dead vocalist would bend over backwards to have her sing with them. Queen would be interesting, but she nailed Stairway!
Very nicely said.
Phouqued up wasn't it?
The opening riff is probably one of the greatest and well known guitar riffs in the history of all music. Instantly recognizeable.
Strait On Dog and BUTTERFLY Kick It OUT Crazy On You are examples of how great they were in the 70s

Yep. They not only insinuated that Ann and Nancy were "lovers", but, propagated the rumor to sell records and Ann/Heart wrote Barracuda as a response.
Ann best Rockin Roll Female voice of all time. Heart you are going down a big rabbit Hole.

Ann arguably has the greatest female rock voice ever!
“Mistral Wind “ is a lesser known but vocal masterpiece. Their cover of “Tell it like it is” another great song with little air play.
Mistral Wind is a force; an entire experience by itself
Do the live version on their Greatest Hits Live album!!!!!!
Mistrial Wind is a prog rock banger! Gotta check out the Alive In Seattle version from 2002. Easily my favorite version.

From early 2023, when Nightwish joined the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise ...

I'm so grateful I had this kind of music when I was growing up in the late 60s 70s and early 80s. If music back then was like it is now I wouldn't have had any music in my life at all.
Ann Wilson is arguably the best female rock singer of all time. The only one I can think of who could top her is Floor Jansen (Nightwish)
I concur
This song stands the test of time incredibly well. Her voice is unparalleled. Great channel. I wish you great success.
Cheers.
This is definitely my hands down favorite of theirs. Another one that you'll like a lot is "Magic Man". Great reaction!
It’s a fabulous galloping guitar and drum session that never lets up.. gets more intense till the end
Probably my favorite Heart song. And in my opinion, one of the better songs of the 70’s. Great reaction ♥️
Beyond cool...vocals and guitar. Put's me in mind of my favourite old Queen songs like 'Keep Yourself Alive' and 'Now I'm Here'. Nothing beats being a 70s child :-)
Absolutely love the Wilson sisters and their work.keep up the good work. So much great music out there!
If you want to listen to another great female artist! Try this hidden gem from Canada Sass Jordan! Anything off her Rats CD is excellent, but try high road easy!
"Magic Man" is a must listen! Love your reactions Stacey! Seen them live many times in the 80s Outstanding concert every time!
I love to see you praise them the way I do as well. I love your reactions so very much. Keep doing more, I’ll be waiting
@Stacey_RPG_Reactss- Stacy said on the reaction she is not on Telegram
They did a lot of Led Zeppelin in their concerts! Their take on The Battle of Evermore is EPIC!❤❤❤
Crazy on you next❤ They have sooo many great songs.I saw them in the early 90's those ladies kicked ass😂❤
The animated version of the music video A-Ha "Take on me" It's a love story and I really think you will dig it
Ann has some of the best facial expressions in rock and roll!
I provided the link so hopefully she gets it. ❤
The 1978 version begins with "Silver Wheels" before segueing into the intro for "Crazy on You". That complex acoustic solo is one of the most entrancing setups in live rock history.
This song was so fun to play to Guitar Hero 3. It was one of the few songs that wasn't too hard but still made you feel like a badass 🤣
Great reaction! You should watch Crazy on You next if you like Heart!
Congratulations! That riff is now programmed into your brain. You'll know it's barracuda almost instantly for now on
Ann effortlessly sings with passion. Suggestion for other Heart songs... "Magic Man"
The 70s were a creative explosion...something rare!
You need to see Heart on 'Crazy on you', absolute outstanding performance.
These girls are real rockstars
Appreciate your thoughtful commentary at the end for sure.
Love this song. Thanks for your reaction. Your kitty is cute.
How scary is this
I had just bought a 1969 Barracuda as a senior in high school.
The barracuda is him-
Do Magic Man and Crazy On You next!
My two are Ann Wilson and Karen Carpenter, but I have no argument with yours. I will check out Angelina Jordan.
Since then, she has worked to raise money on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world."
Her family turned down many offers from recording companies because they wanted her to have a normal childhood.
Everytime I see that drummer I need oxygen the man was putting in work!
seen them 2 times here in Texas...they rocked as hard as the guys at the Texas Jam!!!
The kitty cat just wanted to say "I got a heart too! And my meow is beautiful too!"
This UA-cam message system is so messed up. If I try to read your message on UA-cam comments, it won't let me see your message. If I read your message on my notification, I only get part of your message. If I click on the notification, the message goes away.
I am very sorry! Having a conversation with you would have been very nice. You have a great channel and a great personality. Keep doing what you are doing.
Another fabulous reaction!! Keep the Hearts coming!!
This song has been my ringtones for a decade now.
Bin listening to this song for 50 years and it never gets old!!! Amazing! !
I told you once I'll tell you again you are going to love the music late 60' thru the mid 90's 😊🎸 just to many bands and song's to list them all 😊🎸
She is soooo cool!!!
When I was in high school my best friend learned how to play this song on the guitar. He was so talented and recently passed away. This song always makes me think of the first time he played it. Please do the live version on “Crazy on You” next. “These Dreams,” is another 80’s song but featuring Nancy on vocals.
saw them long long ago. What a spectacular show! Ann played flute in Dog and Butterfly.
Good to see you covering Heart! I have fond memories listening to Heart in the 80's knowing their 70's work most of all!
Never heard of Heart until Rush Limbaugh used Barracuda on his radio program for bumper music. I became a Big Fan , Nancy playing is explosive!
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this magical band. You are correct this song will stay in your head now forever! I know this for a fact because it's been in my head since it came out. Keep enjoying your musical journey.
The best female rock vocalist. One of the best rock songs ever
For those of us old enough to remember PS2 and Guitar Hero, this was a song i fell in love with on that game!
Welcome to Heart enjoy you're journey
