I really appreciate your review for covering almost all the aspects and cool colour grading. I had seen lots of people bashing this camera for AF, but you covered it's plus points and showed a film with this camera. Great effort 💯 Thanks for sharing 🙏
Great review, I'm a GH5 user and the S5 is super tempting, especially how you can use it's batteries on the GH5, which is awesome! Also amazed at the highlight recovery test, the far right looked the best, maybe the dual ISO had something to do with it?
Saw that overexposure test and I'm gonna buy it. 5 stops overexposed and still looking good after correction is amazing, looking like ARRI dynamic range
Man, this is the perfect camera for me. I’m rocking the GH5 rn, but I really wanna eventually upgrade to a full frame and I think this would be a good stepping stone. I almost never use autofocus, so that issue doesn’t even matter for me 😂
the only one review that mentioned the Panasonic Varicam LUT on their website! I wasn't aware of that website and these LUTs! Thank you for sharing, I've got a S5 from Amazon (sold and shipped by Amazon, no third party sellers) with the kit 20-60 lens for 1200£! It was 1400£ with already a discount applied and on top of that there was a 200£ voucher. Not sure if it's a target offer for my account or it was available for everyone. I pulled the trigger immediately as I was looking already for a camera to replace my EOS R for videos (which is super nice, but it's very limited with formats and framerates!) Paired with Ninja V I already own will be incredible! The alternative was the R5 and the R5C, at a very much higher price point. For 1200£ and these features and quality it's a no brainer. And the IBIS... it's something I always wanted in a camera. Now we have the technology and having every lens I own stabilised it's... a dream. Incredible! What a time to be alive! For the Micro HDMI, it seems it could lead to false contact if the cable is hit or moved, so I suggest to buy a cage for the S5 and use a very good quality HDMI clamp. I used a SmallRig one, despite not specifically designed for that cage, it locked the Micro HDMI to HDMI L shaped connector in place, it's rock solid. Also it works perfectly with the Ninja, I was able to record ProRes RAW 5.9K, although setting the HDMI version on the Atomos on Compatible instead of 1.4 or 2.0. This is due to not fully certified cables and adapters that doesn't have a real testing or certification.
Thank You P Jet for not just saying Panasonic S5 autofocus sucks its not the camera for you. It's still amazing camera. I have a S1 and love it. I am going to buy a S5 for my B Cam.
"Banana" "Shake" Reason: I'm starting my film company and I just quit my main job as a flight attendant. Pretty bad moment for the airline industry. I would love to see a a7s3 vs xt4 vs s5 vs r5 I’m looking for a camera that takes decent photos but also incredibly cinematic video and I feel like the recent offerings have made this even harder to pick a camera hahaha
I feel like panasonic has better cinematic look to its image quality. A7siii feels more neutral or like a commercial. Maybe that's just me, or maybe that's a colorgrade/lens issue idk
I wanted to get the a7siii, but there's something about panasonic's color science that I always like, which hinders me to get the a7siii. Whether it's the gh4, all the way to the S1H. Autofocus is a deal breaker, BUT professionals use manual focus on film and TV anyways. Also 5.9k via atomos ninja v? Might go with this one then. Thoughts?
I bought a used G85 as my first camera this year. The 4k is awesome! I honestly leave the camera on manual focus. Or if vlogging I will just hit my back button autofocus. The one hit autofocus on the Panasonic cameras is not bad, it's when it hunts for focus is when it gets annoying. For me it was honestly the best camera under $700 I could buy! Plus I love how small it is. My friend bought a used 5D mkIII and it's huge haha.
You've never tested or tried the EVA-1. After a lifetime of using Cannons and Sonys, I have gone over to 'Panasonic-only' mode. Reason: They always work and they never disappoint. My old EZ1 from 49BC still works. More than can be said for all those old Cannons and Sonys from that era! A camera that doesn't work is no camera at all!
PANASONIC! You have the most perfect cameras made here- Ergonomics, Looks, Feel, Dynamic Range, HQ lenses, 2 card slots, Flip Out Screen etc etc! PLEASE make these cameras Phase detect AF! That's the ONE THING that's bugged me and eventually settle with the EOS-R. DITCH the CONTRAST AF, IT'S BLIMMING TIME! It's sad to see such a desired professional line of cameras losing out on so many creative hands who would buy this right out if it wasn't for the AF method. Still looking forward to owning such a beautiful camera once this is fixed ❤️

Hello Potato jet please suggest me any camera for youtube vlogging and making cenematic video for youtube. Iam really confused but I want full high frame rate slow-mo full function.
I had both the Canon R6 an Panasonic S5 in my hands and comparing the 4K footage on both cameras, showed me how inferior Canons codec is. No All-I option and lack of dynamic range of the R6 sensor made it worse, details were completely missing in over/under exposed areas. Yes the AF is good in the Canon but i can manage the Panasonic just fine and keeps improving with v2.2 firmware to a point where other things like build, controls, codec are more important now. Suffice to say the S5 staid at home but I’m also biased as a GH5 user...

Does the IBIS work with vintage / manual lenses? One of my favorite features on Sony Cameras is the ability to manually enter in focal length on the IBIS to stabilize non-electronic lenses.
Definitely does. You won't get dual stabilization like you do with stuff like Panasonic's own lenses with OIS (which is phenomenal, easily some of the best stabilization out there for mirrorless cameras), but the IBIS alone is still terrific. Your vintage lenses will work just fine!

I am looking at the S5 because the color science is similar, but it can push me closer towards the future..... from 8 bit and beyond. Plus it is a package that I can take on the motorcycle as well as hike with and has the weather resistance that the UX-180 does not have..... for out of the box, I can match the UX-180 with Cin-D mode, or switch to V-Log between primary and B camera..... that is my thinking anyway.
