- Oblivion is loaded with Heroes, and villains, and jerks; but there is another class of character that quite frankly deserves a category of its own. And that would be the Pompous fool.

I felt so bad for Farwil's dad that i felt the need to protect Farwil at all costs. And BOY did it take me alot of time and reloading to get him trough.
Kinda like trying to protect your marines in Halo, huh?
What about his guard
While I was taking care of the Oblivion gate, Farwil ran at me in the dark and I killed by reflex.

The Count will be pissed if you kill him. I don't know how he would find out but he does. I think you can't speak to him again. Meaning you can't ask his help in the aid of Bruma quest.
@@spartanq7781 You also can't buy a house from him, which I found out the hard way as a teenager playing my first game when I accidentally hit Farwil when he ran ahead of me.

Omg, yes. Beem saying this for years. Oblivion npcs are by far the weirdest, most neurotic, and highstrung of any videogame. Their little snide snippy voices, always wearing tights and looking down on you. Its not intentional imo, but oblivion is low key one of the funniest games there is if you look at it a certain way or appreciate campy shit.
As a close friend (who never played the game) so aptly put it when I described something to her once:
"This game sounds both stupid and hilarious."
Honestly, Shivering Isles wouldn't have worked so well if the base game weren't already a total fucking whackjob, lol

@@craigheidgerken236 I'm not the one compulsively talking about the mudcrabs to everyone who wanders within 4 feet of me and baring my teeth at people I don't even know, I'd say the NPCs are definitely weirder than the players.
aww come on. at least farwil TRIED to be an actual knight and fought by my side. plenty of others stop at the boasting. even fewer make it past the first death of a comrade!

@@theace8502 To be fair, IF the end of the quest doesn't bug out (it bugs like Sheogorath himself coded it, I swear the one time it fired the last part correctly was on my PS3 GOTY version)...
Farwil gets scolded by the other knight if they both survive, and he solemnly tells you he's learned to be more careful and think about how his choices can get others hurt, and he does sound sorry (as much as an Oblivion NPC can manage, given the alphabetical VA recording).
So, yeah, if the scripts don't break before the final two scenes fire, Farwil actually admits he's an idiot who cost his friends their lives and he has to be more responsible, and as far as canon is concerned, in The Infernal City novel series he does stick to that new promise to be careful and responsible with the power he has.
Sounds more like he needed a wake-up call and a better example of leadership than his dad who's doing such a shit job I'm getting flashbacks to joining Hlaalu in Morrowind.

And stupid Lex goes and arrests her, never once asking "how we knew it was in Myvryna's cabinet". Totally, the king of dummies.
You can say that about everyone in this series. He is only another in the fold. None however compare to how dumb the games make your character. It's particularly noticeable in Skyrim. I swear the dragon born is an idiot.

It was really funny seeing you add in Sheogorath from Skyrim as the 200 years later of the Oblivion hero, as lore wise the Sheogorath of that game IS your hero from Oblivion. Kudos for adding that !

@@duing_under_the_influence763 Yep. The Hero of Kvatch is Sheogorath in Skyrim. That makes it the first time two different main Elder Scrolls characters meet.
DUIng_under_ the_ influence in the shivering isles dlc you ascend to become Sheogorath at the end of the quest line.
I love getting both crowns for Umbacano, giving him the crown of Nenalatta, and then killing him after he becomes the king. Then I have two more awesome artifacts for my house!
+WarriorofLight also if you give him the real crown then a staff is added to his inventory so their is another reward their as well.

Hey I’ve been playing oblivion since I was 4 and one time when I was playing Voranil was like “no invitations for you” so I killed him on the spot, and proceeded to kill every guard in Cheydinhal and hold the count hostage

I would say the biggest fool in Oblivion is the Emperor: who the hell gives a random prisoner a prophecy deciding the fate of all of Tamriel and entrusting you with the Amulet of Kings??

The best way to do the knights of the thorn quest for me was to just run past everything. I focused on light armour so it was admittedly pretty easy.
I'll never understand where the fight with Umbacano came from. Yeah, he got the power and technically became a king. Well, good for him. Why did everyone immediately begin to exchange blows?
Because Umbacano wasn't himself. When he put on the crown, he was possessed by an ancient Ayleid king who only saw you as an intruder trespassing on his land.

Falcar was one of the biggest trolls in Oblivion imo, in any case, any of the "nicer" pompous fools in Oblivion would put Nazeem to shame. Another great video btw!

You should make a "The 5 Nicest People in Oblivion" or "My 5 Favorite Characters in Oblivion" video. There's so much negativity in the world these days, and it would be nice to remind us that there are people in this game that are worth keeping alive.

gotta give it to farwil indarys. when the time came. he stepped up and deadass charged into an oblivion gate and fought and was willing to die. and didnt want to flee to safety. wanted to actually close the gate.
If nothing else he had the balls to be a knight.
And the spirit of a hero certainly, would have helped if he had gotten some training and actual experience under his belt first however.

While I whole heartedly agree with the choice of Lex, after talking to everyone in the waterfront, I'm kinda shocked that they didn't just kill all of them with no trial... none of them have provide services or products and they're literally all in the thieves guild and they all openly boast about it in front of guards... Arguably the only people who do anything are the pirates who attack anyone if you step on their ship and the bloated float which tends to harbor criminals... Lex would be able to draw out the Count Umbranox if he had just wiped out the waterfront. heck if it were like roman times he could force prisoners to compete in the arena for their freedom... It's harsh but realistic. I will say, it bugs me that there are beggers in skingrad... that is they height of Pompous Fools because at there is always work to do, even if it's just giving slop to the prisoners (actual job they give you in skingrad for a thieves guild quest...)
Apparently, Umbacano is an even bigger fool, the spell he used didn’t turn him into an ayleid king, it turned him into a stage 4 vampire! So he was driven mad in a moment lol
Though I have no intention of ever playing this game the commentary is so good and it's just kind of enchanting to spend a free minutes in another world and get to know it's inhabitants

What I loved about oblivion was that adventuring had alot of value here. My favorite past time was to look for oblivion gates just to get some fun fights BUT when you experiment with magic so much that you KINDA break the game, it gets funny xD i mean making gear that has a very strong detect life or gear that reflects ALL magic makes it funny. Just wish there was more people to kill though

Using Overpowered spells on Farwil makes him an actually dangerous Knight, insta heal, mirror every spells, fast as fuck, blade and strenght to 100 and heavy armor the same.

Fun Fact: Guild Wars 2 has a Special title you can Earn after Completing the Second Expansion Heart Of Thorns, where Your Character Receives a Far More Official Title From the Pale Tree Where She Knights You as I kid you Not. Easiest way to keep Farwil alive, avoid him. Clear out the gate and when you're transported back, he is still alive.

I honestly always make Farwil and his friend essential when in the oblivion realm. With my experience they always ALWAYS fall in the lava at least once when following me. It never fails. It's so aggravating. So I just make them essential and make my own way through the blasted thing and meet up with them once it's closed. The follower ai in that game is so janky, but I love it anyway haha.

Yes, console command. You have to put setessential, their base id, and 1 for active. so for farwil it would be setessential 31bc5 1
In all my years of Oblivion I have never brought more than two statues to Umbacanno. Thanks for the Spoiler warning, now I _have_ to finish that damn quest XD

I need to clarify this; the readon Voranil ignore his servant for being part of the cult is that he's a sleeper agent himself.
