    SYNOPSIS:
    00:00 Opening Credits
Join us as we follow the tobacco's journey from humble seeds to finely-matured leaves that is expertly wrapped by craftsmen into the cigars that we know and love.
You will be guided by Klaas Kelner, Senior Brand Ambassador for Davidoff, who will take you on a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you will learn the intimate details of the cigar's production.
    01:33 Introduction
You will meet Hendrik "Henke" Kelner, Tabadom's founder, Eladio Diaz, Davidoff's Master Blender, as well as Hamlet Espinal, the factory's general manager, who will share their unique insights as well as their most intimate secrets of the industry.
    06:07 Tobacco Seeds
We will begin our adventure in one of Davidoff's 52 greenhouses, where we learn about their unique tobacco hybrids and watch the seeds being planted and cultivated into small plants.
    15:58 Tobacco Fields
From there, we are whisked away to the Kelner farm where San Vicente tobacco is grown and harvested. Klaas will show you how the freshly cultivated tobacco leaves are taken to the curing barns.
    34:36 Tobacco Fermentation
Afterwards, we travel to the fermentation warehouse and learn about the many years it takes to properly mature the tobacco until it's ready to be used.
    45:00 Sorting Tobacco
Before heading to the factory, we see the meticulous process of the tobacco being sorted, deveined, and prepared before it can be used for making a cigar.
    01:09:50 Blending Cigars
Furthermore, we see the blending process and even speak to Eladio Diaz, Davidoff's Master Blender.
    01:16:01 Rolling Cigars
Finally, we arrive at the factory and witness first-hand the cigars being crafted by two of Davidoff's master rollers They show us how the filler is properly bunched and placed into the binder as well as how the wrapper is carefully applied afterwards.
01:26:20 Cigar Bands, Boxes, & Cellophane
Before our journey draws to a close, we also explore the steps that follow once the cigars have been properly rested. We learn how Davidoff sorts the fresh cigar by colour, how the bands are applied, and how (and why) they are sealed in cellophane before being boxed.

@@patrickbdunlap it also helps with quality and training if your staff use and enjoy your product too
i worked in a vaping store yes WORLDS DIFFERENT
but i was given access to the entire stores lineup of devices and flavours to use at my disposal i could get liquids at or below wholesale value to us i could take display moddels out of the cabinets and use them it all helped the staff to build expertese that you just cant get from doing training workshops if a customer has a question i know the answer cause ive used the product i know the features i know the flavours
also being a user i know what the customer wants when they asked me a question like oh i want something with a little softer hit i knew what that meant what product they tried and what aspect of that product they identified as not enjoying and can use my knowledge of the products to find something that meets there needs
same for this i must imagine but on the manufacturing side its must be hard to explain why one green leaf is not as good as the next but if you can show them hey this leaf here is in this cigar if you try it youll see how this charecteristic is present ect see how doing this affected this and it builds there knwoledge
plus its nice to look after your staff if there happy they work harder because they care because you care
and besides a cigar that doesent meat the sale standards isnt a bad cigar it just might be that little bit below the standard and rather than waste it let the employees enjoy it

As none smokers we knew very little about tobacco products or cigarette/cigar making, so we viewed this documentary with innocent interest. We were immediately struck by the complexity of the whole cigar making process, the time involved in preparing the leaf, to arriving at the final end product, and just how labour intensive each stage of manufacture is.
We had no idea it was so precise, staged and regulated. The quality assurances and personal attention to detail given in each element of making a cigar is captured so well by this documentary and goes a long way to explaining why cigars can be so expensive to buy. One is buying a labour of love from an investment made over many years of production.
We were also struck by the enthusiasm shown both by the growers and by Bespoke Unit in capturing the diversity of the manufacturing chronology so well and editing it in a way that holds the attention of the viewer. For 90 minute documentary to hold the attention of the viewer right until the very end says a lot about how the subject matter is portrayed and how it has been so carefully edited from what must have been mountainous volumes of raw footage shot to produce this visual progression of the cigar manufacture. We also liked to clip edit opportunity to view edited sectionalised segments of the video to refresh a memory of a particular process, should the need arise.
Will this documentary tempt two none smokers to become cigar smokers? Probably not, but what it has done is advance our understanding of what is far from a straightforward process, from, as Bespoke Unit identify in their title...." from seed to smoke"
Well done Bespoke Unit a thoroughly enjoyable and well crafted documentary. More documentaries like this please!

Awesome. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida (7th and Morgan), Cigars and tobacco are a normal part of life. Coffee too. So, to share with folks all that goes into the making of a cigar, and how enjoying cigars benefits so many people, what's not to love? When you're paying $10 dollars for a cigar, you're getting a deal. And because we only smoke them from time to time, it isn't that expensive either.
And so enjoyable. One of my favorites is in the morning, with good coffee, I'll start a cigar, drink my coffee, and do my morning reading. Then later that night, I'll finish this cigar, after dinner, usually while doing more reading. That's good living. And in Tampa, its quite normal. :-)

    Thank you, Paul! 👏🏼
You've given me some serious insight and the utmost regards for the noble cigar companies. Consistency and perfection is what they sell, not trash like cigarettes! I'm glad I recently picked up a cigar as a gag and realized I enjoyed it more than any cigarette in a long, long time.
I've tried everything to quit smoking cigarettes and to be honest, I never tried cigars! I am a chain smoker because I never get to the point to where I feel satisfied by it. I went from 2+ packs per day all the way down to 19 cigarettes to 24 on the worse day tops... That's less than one week at 5 days with the ability to go 12+ hours without a cigarette. In another week, I'll hopefully be free of that cigarette curse to enjoy a cigar from time to time.
Cigars give me the nicotine and depending upon the cigar, slowly to quite fast. It's just like the first time I started smoking and it breaks the constant craving to chain smoke without thought. I can literally put the cigar down and walk away, saving it for later. It really makes smoking enjoyable and not a pipe dream to where you never feel satiated. If only more cigarette smokers would take the step and run from cigarettes to cigars, their lives wouldn't be ruled by them. The last week has been a real eye opener for sure and this video did more to solidify my choice. They're not treating their tobacco with tars and other addictive chemicals... It's literally the basics, care, and nothing more.
I noticed over the years that the nicotine isn't there anymore and there's zero enjoyment to cigarettes... The tar is what cigarettes are pumping out and the less they can disrupt the chain by not allowing one to reach that point to where you feel the nicotine, the more chain smokers they can create. It's now completely obvious to me that the two products are completely different in every possible way.

Agree. I myself had also been a cigarette smoker for 5 years since I was 18. When I was introduced to the world of cigars, I found myself just satisfied and mindblown finding out that this is what tobacco is supposed to taste like. It's not nasty like cigarettes. It's not craving that I feel anymore, it's just appreaciation and gratitude that there are people that took the time to hone the skills of planting, harvesting, fermenting, and rolling fine tobacco products.

I grew up in the Connecticut River Valley in Massachusetts, and worked on tobacco farms in my teenage years in Amherst & Hadley. I planted it, suckered it, cut it hung it, took it down, and prepped it for the buyers who would come in October. And... my friends mom ran the CCC shade crops as well throughout MA & CT. I also worked 8 years as a commercial rose grower, so it am fully tuned with him talking stigmas & anthers/stamens. We had so many jars of seeds for every year. Incredible experience that I can now fully value as I enjoy Cigars today. This guy is next level!! Next time I go to DR, I'm going there for sure!!

It's good to know that cigar colour does not denote strength. I have a few Camacho Triple Maduro cigars on the way, it seems this is a Davidoff brand from Honduras, looking forward to smoking it tomorrow at my local cigar bar... what Davidoff cigar would you recommend with a lighter wrapper and a stronger flavour? ( I have also tried smoking my cigar nubs in my pipe, why waste good tobacco? however it is hard to keep it lit in a pipe).

I really enjoyed watching this video as I was smoking a Davidoff Yamasa this morning at 5am with a nice iced coffee. As I watch the cigar rollers cutting the cigars, I noticed the cigar being cut way to much. I just wish instead of wasting all that cut, for Davidoff to make cigars a little bigger (longer), not only to save the cigar from wasting too much cutting, but to enjoy a longer cigar as well.

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  4 роки тому +1

An early bird enjoying his worm... Or in this case a cigar! I think there's are reasons for that. Firstly, the vitolas are set to standardise the sizes so they can all fit in the same box etc. Secondly, I believe that they are cut because the part that is discarded isn't completely full of filler. If it was kept, it may be soft, burn badly, and be missing some of the blend's flavours.
