@@sneegssnag808 So glad I watched this vlog. I’ve been smoking cigars since I was 24 years old. I’ve been considering that Colibri V-cutter for a while. You’re correct on getting a high quality cutter! You may spend a little more but the cut quality is more satisfying and the blade steel is usually higher quality which means the blade will stay sharp longer. Thanks for such an informative video!

But the man is right, what makes you happy as a smoker, is what is best! Good luck with all the storms out there!

I love my v cutter, one added bonus is when you have a cigar with a sweet or flavorful wrap, you keep more intact and its better if you like to dip the tip in whiskey for the last pull or two. Great vid!
11:07 The amount of open surface area will help control how much air you can draw, which affects how hot the smoke is (so long as the draw isn't plugged or too tight). The more air you draw in ( and the speed of which you do so) determines how hot the cigar burns. If it burns too hot it won't taste very good.
One thing I always keep in mind when selected my cut is the length of the smoke. I enjoy a tight draw, but in a larger cigar, I'll ensure a decent amount of air flow to prevent tar from building up toward the end of the cigar. I hate that bitter taste to the extent that I'll periodically blow out on the cigar to keep the smoke from lingering inside it too long.
It's always interesting to hear about different techniques cigar enthusiasts use. Scoring the cap in a circular motion with light pressure and stretching the tobacco sounds like a careful and precise way to create a clean cut. I can see how this method might be especially useful when a V-cut isn't readily available. It's great to know that with a bit of practice, it becomes an efficient and damage-free way to prepare your cigars. Everyone's preference and skill level may vary, but your suggestion adds another useful option to the cigar cutting guide. Happy smoking!

It really is a sweet cutter. It has features you normally only see in high end knives. I’ve been eyeing one of those XO cutters myself. I hear they are pretty outstanding. 👍🏻
I am also moistening the end and prefer my cutters sharp. Those are excellent tips. Just you Americans are basically pampered by the quality of Non-Cuban cigars. Lately there are severe quality issues and there is almost always an issue with airflow. For that reason alone I cut deeper. Yes and risking the wrapper coming off. What helps, though, is a V cutter or a drill. Airflow can be improved additionally by cigar files (not sure if I am using the right term here). Great video. Great style.

Thank you my brotha 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I am not a cigar connoisseur, I bought a few cigars and lost two trying to light them. I kept taking puffs and puffs, but they wouldn't light and now I know why.😂😂😂😂
If you use a Perfect Cutter on a torpedo, a triple snip is usually perfect in my experience. On box pressed cigars if you use a round cutter, the blade works best if you face the wider sides along with the blades. Less pressure and cuts it cleaner. The Padron 26 and 64 are regulars in my rotation and I’ve never had an issue. I always carry a Colibri V cutter in my case, but it’s rarely ever used. I just don’t like the feel in my mouth with the cut. Punches I used to use 20 years ago when there were virtually no cutters that fit 60 plus ring gauge cigars, but it’s just not ideal for most cigars IMO.
This is the first video I've watched from your and I have to say I really love your laid-back energy and friendliness, also the great quality of the video. Good work man !
Very informative video thanks. I’ve tried different cutting techniques. I prefer a V cut. I’ve found that sometimes I have to draw hard to smoke. If I find that happens I will actually make another V cut making it an X.
My husband wholesaled cigars and loved them. Every year for his birthday I would buy us tickets to the cigar dinner in south Florida. It was $500 so it was a big deal. We’d get lots of cigars and gourmet food and wine all evening. Those cigar makers, wholesalers, retailers, tobacco growers and cigar aficionados would stand in line to use a mounted V cutter rather than any other. From then on we had a mounted V cutter at home.
I disagree with bigfoot, take a trip to your local cigar shop/lounge and ask around, find a cigar to try. Worst case scenario, you don't enjoy it and can say you tried.
Rationally and overal I would say the straight cut is the best cutter especially the ones with a big ring gauge. Simply because you can cut everything with them, punch and v-cut have their limitations like the ones you mentioned in the video. But since cigars are far away of being something rational i prefer the V-Cut and i switch between the Colibri and the Xikar Cutter, depends on the deepness (is this a real word?) of the cut i want. PS: Thanks for the coffee recommandation! EDIT: Ok sorry if someone these this post a few more times UA-cam just wanted to spread my word and posted this shit all over the place here
I totally get geedy on this explanation of cutting the cigar. Appreciate you doing this video. Have been in the hobby only two years and I have learned some nice basics from this video.
Tons of great ones out there. Go with something in maybe the 6-8 dollar range. Don’t want to spend too much Incase you don’t like it. A Drew Estate Undercrown is a nice smooth smoke. Also hard to go wrong with any light wrapper Montecristo for a first try. Lots of great ones out there so hard to pick just one. 😉
I personally started with an Ashton Churchill. $12.50 for a longer one but it’s quite smooth and very mild. I think it’s a great introduction as you don’t have a strong taste like other cigars.
@@JeremySiers I took a business trip to China some time ago, and was able to smoke a Cuban, and it was good, but not enough better than a nicaraguan to pay the extra money (Cuban cigars are now legal in the United States when it comes to traveling abroad and bringing them back into the country for personal use. However, if U.S. citizens attempt to sell Cuban cigars within the United States, they may be subject to fines and other penalties.)
I have a razor sharp jack knife. I cut around the first dent and the cap pops right off. No muss, no fuss. Works great with Churchill's and Robusto's, my preffered styles. The problem I have with guillotine cutters is arthritis. Too hard to use. Great video!
I have a phobia of not moistening every cigar I smoke. I've never cracked a moistened tip, however I have cracked tips without being moistened so as you say its fool proof pretty much. Love the content man
I miss cigars… I have not given up on em, just have not had one in awhile. Great tutorial Jeremy, you nailed it, of course I wouldn’t expect anything less 🙂 I still hope we can enjoy a couple of cigars together one day and solve the world’s problems or just bs about man stuff lol. Take care for now.
I soak my cigar in my favorite whiskey before I smoke it. I only put in a cap full of whiskey in a shot glass. Let my cigar soak for 5-10 mins. Light it up and enjoy. Keeps the heat down as you draw. I think it add to the flavor to the cigar.
Never heard this method, I might try this. But it seems like soaking more than 20 seconds is over saturating it. Does slow the draw or cause the wrapper to unravel?
@@j0shll0yd I soak it good and suck out the whiskey before I light it up. It keeps the tobacco cool when drawing on your cigar. Also adds a little flavor to the cigar
Pro Tip: Should you be struggling to get a clean, well placed cut with a guillotine/straight cut you can essentially achieve the same thing as the Perfect Cut by setting your cutter on a flat surface, putting the cap in til it rests on the table or whatever surface you used, then going in for the cut. I've been smoking 15+ years and still do that pretty regular just out of habit and because it's great when you have a sketchy cap. Bonus: Commit to your cut! Pick it and press hard. Don't half way it or it'll come out all wonky and parts of the filler may not cut right leaving a weird edge that can be uncomfortable and annoying. Bonus Bonus: You can light a cigar with a Bic (YES BICS USE BUTANE, even if it's not the cleanest around, and there's a solid chance your favorite blender uses a cheap Bic style lighter most if not all of the time) ya found in the parking lot outside the liquor store, a cheap Djeep, etc, cheap butane lighters tend to be ok if you go with a decent brand. But cutters not so much. The Cuban Crafters Perfect Cut is solid and pretty affordable but most cheap cutters are just more trouble than they're worth and stand a good chance of ruining your experience. It really pays to keep an eye out for sales or hit up CBid for a good cutter. I got my Xikar XO Honeycomb for under $50 on there, 2 Xikar Xi2's for about $15-16 each, and a Colibri guillotine for about the same. For months now I've also been using a $13 JetLine Bugle Single Flame Torch more than anything and love the cigar rest lol Even my partner liked it so much I got her one for her birthday and it's primarily what she uses too. Don't have to spend retail if ya just look around 💯 Used to pretty much exclusively use guillotine cut, I tried a few punches but it never really did it for me and I had issues with tar buildup and cracking caps. Then when the V craze took off some years back I got a Colibri V for my birthday one year and went to almost exclusively using it. But over time I just drifted back to the guillotine. There's a reason most blenders don't like V or punch cuts. I still switch it up some but guillotine is where it's at imo.
Interesting, when you mentioned most lighters had punch cuts, I immediately checked my lighter and at the bottom I found out the fuel injection part opens up into a punch cutter. Thanks for mentioning that, I would've never found that otherwise
With the punch or the V cut, I find that the tar build up starts to affect the taste of the cigar towards the 2nd 3rd. The straight cut is the best way to avoid tar build up in my experience
Bought a cigar the other day, woman in shop said “ Do you want me to cut it for you?” I said “Yea” ( I was on Holiday and didn’t have my cutter ) when I got it out the tube it had a “v” cut, first time I had seen one, I was like what! But it smoked really nicely.
At least she asked, I bought some the other day and I prefer a V cut usually and I was gazing at some other cigars and I heard a snip and next thing it was straight cut
The only cigar cutter review video on UA-cam that really cuts cigars!
😉👍🏻
But what would happen if you make tiny holes with needle, instead of cutting it?
@@gaming2121 it would still work, but you would need to put a lot of holes into the cigar, and it would just take a long time in general

I disagree with bigfoot, take a trip to your local cigar shop/lounge and ask around, find a cigar to try. Worst case scenario, you don't enjoy it and can say you tried.
TheSerGregor worst case scenario you like it and get cancer. Maybe a bit overboard but that definitely is the real worst scenario.
4 min in, huba huba, you do that so well..
20 seconds in, instantly sold on getting cigars and cutting them properly bc the intro was good
Great tutorial, elementary stuff for seasoned cigar smokers I'm sure, but I'm a newbie so I appreciate the info.
anything under 50 ring gauge i typically use a punch.
straight cutter for topedos or any cone shaped cigar.
v cutter for everything else.
Great points.
EDIT: Ok sorry if someone these this post a few more times UA-cam just wanted to spread my word and posted this shit all over the place here
Depth not deepness good guess tho
Never even seen a real cigar, had no idea you had to cut them. You learn somthing everyday.
I totally get geedy on this explanation of cutting the cigar. Appreciate you doing this video. Have been in the hobby only two years and I have learned some nice basics from this video.
Never smoked a cigar before, but am sure I treated to try it out. What do you recommend for a beginner?
Tons of great ones out there. Go with something in maybe the 6-8 dollar range. Don’t want to spend too much Incase you don’t like it. A Drew Estate Undercrown is a nice smooth smoke. Also hard to go wrong with any light wrapper Montecristo for a first try. Lots of great ones out there so hard to pick just one. 😉
If i were you don't even start dude,
start with a Connecticut in the $6-$8 range. I would recommend a Macanudo
Im definitely going to cut and smoke my first cigar this week after watchinf this
5:18 Ah, I see a Sin Compromise there...really love your content Jeremy, keep it up!
As a young child, why do I enjoy watching videos that relates to cigars and type of cutting cigars and etc
I just recently got into cigars. I love cigars now. This great info for better experience.
Heh. Penetrate. Great vid man. Love it. It's be cool to see a 'how to choose a cigar for beginners' vid. Rock on dude. 🤘🏻
Only scissors for me because I can do every cigar shape with it perfectly. Xikar folding scissors always on my keychain.
Great vid! Love the editing, especially the punch cut intro! Keep up the good work😁
I have a razor sharp jack knife. I cut around the first dent and the cap pops right off. No muss, no fuss. Works great with Churchill's and Robusto's, my preffered styles. The problem I have with guillotine cutters is arthritis. Too hard to use. Great video!
I don’t smoke. I literally watch this stuff because it’s satisfying and I love the channel
Just watching this made me feel like a badass cowboy from the 50's lol
Thank you for the coffee Jeremy I'm drinking a cup as I watch 👊 3 shots 😉
You know it brother 😉👍🏻. Cheers my friend! Hope your week goes well.
@@JeremySiers thank and I've had a great week and weekend and onwards and upwards
A like is granted for 14 year old mentality!
Watching this will help me for when I get my first cigar on Friday, cheers mate
I have a phobia of not moistening every cigar I smoke. I've never cracked a moistened tip, however I have cracked tips without being moistened so as you say its fool proof pretty much. Love the content man
I dont know anyone that even smokes cigars but we damn sure cut them dow 😂
Good cutter review. I normally put amaretto in my coffee.
This can definitely apply as a circumcision tutorial...
Great tutorial about cigar cuts. I understand now why I should also get a v-cutter.
Yeah, Christ, I've done the same, but I only "douse" the tip.
Jim Gallagher cream soda
Never heard this method, I might try this. But it seems like soaking more than 20 seconds is over saturating it. Does slow the draw or cause the wrapper to unravel?
@@j0shll0yd I soak it good and suck out the whiskey before I light it up. It keeps the tobacco cool when drawing on your cigar. Also adds a little flavor to the cigar
@@chrismartinez8393 wow! I have got to try this! Thanks for the idea!
I always use a Samurai sword and let my wife hold the cigar.😝
Don't have to spend retail if ya just look around 💯
Used to pretty much exclusively use guillotine cut, I tried a few punches but it never really did it for me and I had issues with tar buildup and cracking caps. Then when the V craze took off some years back I got a Colibri V for my birthday one year and went to almost exclusively using it. But over time I just drifted back to the guillotine. There's a reason most blenders don't like V or punch cuts. I still switch it up some but guillotine is where it's at imo.
Loved the video! I'm a beginner when it comes to cigars and I learned allot!
I have started smoking cigars. I'm just a beginner, so that's why I stumbled upon your channel.
Interesting, when you mentioned most lighters had punch cuts, I immediately checked my lighter and at the bottom I found out the fuel injection part opens up into a punch cutter. Thanks for mentioning that, I would've never found that otherwise
"For guys", I see
Jokes aside thank you
I learned a lot with this short video
whaaat?! You came up in my recommended feed! I love cigars and camera's and you seem to be the Peter Mckinnon Cigar Smoking version lol!
You got it right! It's pronounced as a Y "Bayas" Artes which translates to "the beautiful arts". Great video! 👍
Love the puns and the 14 year old humor! You're all right with me! Great video!
With the punch or the V cut, I find that the tar build up starts to affect the taste of the cigar towards the 2nd 3rd. The straight cut is the best way to avoid tar build up in my experience
Thanks for the tip. I tried the V cut once and the cigar wasn't that good. Maybe this is why.
Punch cut will give you some build up I notice it happens when I try to smoke too fast.
The intro "we're here .We got a cygar . Let's talk about some man shit"
Got me to sub
Damm right son!.... my whiskey, my cigar....I do as I please and enjoy👍
Cool video. Pleasant attitude and it's always cool to watch a video with a host with sense of humor. Great video.
