4D number plates are perfectly road legal in the UK so long as they're made by a DVLA registered number plate supplier and conform to the BS AU 145 E standards for anyone wondering.

Excellent video thanks. Just been looking at buying a personalised plate but was not sure how much hassle it would be sorting out the transfer etc. Came close to letting an online company rip me off for the privilege.
Good to know you once you buy from DVLA you have no other fee involved in the paperwork transfer, just need to buy plates.
So in a nutshell you buy from DVLA, receive the V750, buy your plates then transfer online.
I looked at an online company and for the reg number I want they would charge £375, going straight to DVLA for it £250.
Your video just saved me £125 thanks fella.
Is it true you need to pay 80.00 to DVLA to get your new plates put onto your car?
@@coachgordonso I just bought new personalised plate from the DVLA and they added an assignment fee of £80.00
@@coachgordonso not to put on your car but there is a registration fee of £80 to be paid to the DVLA but it is included in your plates price when buying direct

1. Will I have contact the dvla regarding the current tax on my vehicle tied to the old registration number?
2. What happens to the old registration number . Will this be still tied to the vehicle when I go to sell the car again in the future to a new keeper?
3. Where does the new keeper get the cars number plate from ?

Hi excellent video, just like to add that when you change your number plate be aware your insurance company may charge you for a change of details .
Normally the obligatory Administration fee of approximately £30.
£35 with my Insurance, bloody rip off!!!.. for people like myself on a low income.
You complain of low income,yet splurge god knows how much on an unnecessary vanity plate!@@danielhanney3326

Great video thank you. I've just bought a 1 year old car off a dealership, do I need to be on the cars v5c document first before I put the registration on? As I've seen other people pick up cars with there private registrations on ready to be picked up.
Hi - normally the dealers sort this out for you in advance - its probably better to get the V5 in you name before swapping plates.

How many days grace do you get after clicking the button in order to the new plates fitted ?
thinks it’s 3 days - but maybe it’s less or more .
there may be a day or two where someone has transfered the plate and submitted it online
but still drives the vehicle on the now old plate - until they get new plates fitted .
Basically - are you breaking any laws if drive the vehicle on the now old plates for a few days after submitting the application

Hi Simon, can you do one that shows how to change over number plate when changing cars after buying another used car
You can use form V317 and send this to Swansea or use the DVLA online service to "Take a registration number off a vehicle" and then "Put a registration number on a vehicle".
Does it work if you have a V778 retention document also? Cheers

Great vid mate. What’s the procedure when you want to swap the plates back when selling the car? And also do you get a new log book everytime you change?
Yes you will get a new log book every time the car details change
To swap back you need to apply to put your private plate on retention certificate - they will then re allocate your original plate to your car and send you a new log book with the original plate
