  • Want to learn a Pier fishing rig to catch more fish? I’ll show you my favorite fishing rig to use while pier fishing. Pier fishing is a perfect time to use this rig because it is easy to just drop straight down. The Paternoster Rig a very sensitive drop rig that is tied with two or more hooks. It is a simple tie, the only tricky part is learning to tie the drop loop.

That was definitely the easiest way I've seen to tie a dropper loop and I've never even thought to cut one end of the loop to make it a single line instead of a double. Thank you for the tips.

    Hey skipper,
I made my own rigs like you by watching the video and got a ton more bites. I went to North Carolina and caught spotted trout, flounder, pinfish, and string ray. Had a big drum on but my main line snapped before the rig snapped. Great job sir and thank you for posting.

I have been fishing on the Texas coast nearly every summer for a long time. Never learned how to do this until now, made a few up myself and failed. Thank you for helping me learn to tie this not correctly. Do I enjoy watching your how-to videos? Absolutely, yes. Good work.

Hi from Martinique. I find this montage great because it is very economical and very simple. There is no need to paster noster and the knots is simple and fast. Very good video.

I've been really studying your videos. I bought each of your .pdf's as I already have a pretty good tackle collection. I had a somewhat successful pier fishing evening last week. I had never caught fish at a public pier, but I caught 2 catfish. Not a fish that I want, granted, but it was FISH. Today, I had tied a couple of pater noster rigs with yellow and red beads for beach fishing. Whiting are running. Again, I had NEVER caught a single fish surf fishing after having gone about 15 times. I caught a whiting on my second cast! I caught a total of 6 whiting and 1 catfish, followed me!, in less than two hours! Thank you for helping me learn how to fish in salt water in my beautiful state of Florida!

You're basically making a hi/lo rig with the two hooks instead of a sabiki which has up to 6. The tip about cutting the dropper loop is genius tho! I like that it has potential to be more stealthy, and give bait more life in the current (I fish in the surf a lot). The dropper loop is the one that consistently gives me issues, and your description of how to tie it is the best I've seen yet! I think I am going to adopt the way you tie it as my go-to from now on! so much easier! Thanks for a great video! Definitely subscribed!

Hey Senko Skipper, just wanted to let you know that those are called a Hi-Low Rig, and it's very common in the Virginia area. Albeit, there are variations from rig to rig, the general concept is the same.
Tip: Using beads/floats on the dropper loop allows the bait to "suspend" in the currents, letting the fish have less suspicion on the bait, and makes it easier to get better hookups. Also, tying a swivel 4-8 inches from the main rig helps from twisting the line, and lets the bait ride the current without much resistance from the line.
    Great video as always!

Great video. And yes the dropper loop is designed to be used either double or single strand. The only suggestion i would have is you can also use a double surgeon knot instead of a snap swivel. Just make the loop around 1" - 2".

  • @SuperBardley
    @SuperBardley 7 років тому

Good demo vid, thanks for posting it. There is one thing I would remind folks of, and that is that Sabiki's are so darn cheap and so darn easy to become a tangled birds nest, that it is generally best to not bother trying to salvage them for another trip but rather just chuck 'em when the day is done.
That said, there are a couple of ways that offer a small amount of success in reusing them: A) Wrap the rig around a piece of pool noodle or foam pipe insulation, being careful to hook each hook into the foam, or B) Some guys have spoken of hooking pairs adjacent hooks together on the rod (I've not tried this one, but its success will depend on the rod's length.

I love that your also doing tutorials right now. I do have suggestions for a make shift pompano rig using shreds of cheap foam sandals and using the same knots except with a twist in the dropper loop knot so the loop stays a loop but it is twisted to stay slim. The sandal bits float the bait of the surface and away from crabs. As for the sinker I do a double over hand knot to just be able to keep the rig in case of snag.

Great explanation of a dropper loop. Nice explanation of where to use the rig, but could have used a little more of that.
Suggestion: put small swivels on dropper loop and the attached snelled hooks to that. When you fish it, you can retrieve a fish by taking off the swivel, adding another hook/bait, back in the water. Then you can get the hook out of fish #1 (and #2 if you got a double hook up).

Awesome tutorial, finally someone that taught me the best way to tie a dropper loop and love ur idea on making the loop "sneakier" thanks for the video, liked and subscribed. Please make more videos, if possible on surf fishing. Love the bloopers! Lol

Heading to the Keys next week, Marathon Key Beach Club, and looking forward to using the sabiki rigs. Have used other riggings before with some success but hoping to have good success now. Loved the video and the out takes too.
