15:10 - lane snapper.
I've been fishing for 35 yrs and still learn tips from you and your dad. Thanks. Back in the day, fisherman kept tips to themselves.. as if you were stealing their honey hole.
100% depends on the day, one day the fish are on the bite and the next day nothing even in identical conditions. I prefer to use circle hooks in a rugged rocky areas as the normal "J" hook tends to get stuck in the coral
Hey Skipper. I live and fish here in Northern midwest, where its gettin really cold in Illinois. We dont have like the best places to fish. For that, we go oto Wisconsin. But I learned today a VERY important, fundamental of fishing. Match hook size with the fish you want to catch. A great highlight from your video. A fish with small mouth will need small hook. Now i understand why i use a small hook and i only get panfish, bluegill or sunfish and hoping to catch trophy bass. Ive been fishing crazy using like a3/0 or 4/0 on a drop shot - but even tsmaller fish just swim away. Thank you Skipper for this awesome learning. Edgar
Good information here! And Erin caught a real pretty fish! Thanks guys! Always good to see your adventures!
Thanks skipper for the hook lesson. Learned alot as always
Perfect love all the info, and picture of different fish .
Love that skyway , try the north side , go all the way to the last stop , got some nice grouper and big fish there , don’t forget fort de Soto, or pass-a- grille jetty
The next time you fish that pier use a trolley rig it keeps your bait in the perfect place for kings, mackerel, and tarpon. There's a lot less of a chance of losing fish, like when you bottom fish.
watching this video before going to work this morning..I love your videos because I have learned so much. Last night I made my first ever hi-low rig that I am going to use. don't know if i did it right but I am ready to use it for the first time tonight. thanks for the tip..now to get more hooks..yay
How did your first high low rig work?
G'Day Mate. I just started fishing last year here in NSW, Australia. Your videos are very informative. Keep 'em coming! Thank you
I enjoy your hook talks. I’m trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks!
I’d suggest normally using circle hooks in general, sets itself and almost always in lip or in corners of mouth
Thanks for the info glad to see Aaron fishing also
That's a lovely Lane Snapper ... 8" and up in FL
Hey sir Skipper nice to see you again with Bushi, watch his video the other day, sad though bc the kids were not with him. But it's ok. Erin have a blessed day
Lane snapper
In NJ and I think other Northeastern states if you are bait fishing for stripers you have to use circle hooks per the regulations so if it's the spring or fall runs you're pretty much stuck with the circle regardless of the species you are targeting unless its a really small hook.
So informative as always, great ending on this one 👍💯
Thanks :) that makes us happy to hear
You can free-line pinfish from that pier and catch grouper off the rocks 50 to 75 yards out from the pier.. That's one of my favorite places to fish.. Mangroves snapper, Spanish/King mackerel, Jackes... Anything and everything swims through there...
I fish a lot in Galveston, and your tips are informative I had no idea the uses for different hooks. Thanks skipper
Bro i fish galveston to and the whole thing is a lie your always gonna need steel leader for sharks and smacks it doesn't matter bc they are gonna go for the whole bait and that's a fact
@@danielpena8336 yeah i always do steel leaders too. there are a lot of those little sand sharks by the causeway
Thanks for the content skipper and the wifey. You have tought me so much , your techniques work here in NJ also. Keep up the great Job.. I wish i could afford your bait box maybe one day.. God Bless and tight lines
Thank 4 sharing your informative video...GOD BLESS.
Great Stuff ! Keep’em coming !
Great presentation! Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I'm learning to take my son out fishing 🎣
Excellent work !
Great fishing video and tips
Those passing showers... I was on a pier on the Outer Banks of North Carolina when the rain came. And boy did it come! The spots were coming in two at a time. Everyone was getting drenched. There was a shelter in the middle of the pier but no one wanted to leave the bite. We kept looking at the shelter and at each other laughing the whole time...and kept fishing.
Love all your videos bro very helpful
Thanks for helping others
God bless
Thanks! Very useful information. 👍
Hey man me and my friend started fishing at the bay we are really new to this type of fishing, we went to a bay WITHH some normal 6 foot medium heavy foot rod with a lot of fresh fish and night crawlers and little did we know we hade a lot to learn to when it comes to hooks to what rod your using and how your tieing your rig. Your videos are a lot of help man been trying to play close attention what you tie on your line, weights ur using and etc
Those long shanks are my favorite hook!
Have numerous sizes....some times I'll use a high low with different size on either hi or low
That fish with the spot is called a Lane Snapper
Great nice informative video! Love all your fishing videos! Love from Singapore 😊
Erin caught a cool looking snapper👍🏾
Good video. I fished the same spot last week and had luck. The fish:Lane Snapper and Key West Grunts
I’d love to see some south east Florida fishing
Love bait ringed hook.
Nice tips
Nice, I learn something new today, good talk mate!
Been a fan form a long time love your method and detailed videos would love if u made a detail video for grouper only where to find what kind of rigs should use .
I have been following your videos for sooo long. You always said, always use circle hooks. Now you mentioned bout choice of hooks that is best for different situation.
already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
Merry Chrismas from Brasil, love yr videos. Keep going.
Wow wish to have fishing reel and rod like yours i do really love fishing to keepsafe tnx for sharing
Hey Skipper, thanks for all the great videos on fishing. I joined a few months ago n love the places and advice you share . But most of all that you share it with your family. That’s a blessing of its own.
I would like to see how you set up and fish Black fish in New Jersey. Also , maybe we’re we can get the fiddler crabs they say are the best for these fish. Seems no one sells them any more around here during the Fall season.
Thanks and tell the crew I said hello, and great job.
Stay Blessed , Adam
Awe man I wish that you guys had this video up just before last Christmas to new years when I was down there and Apollo beach mostly getting skunked because I had way to big of setups for the fish that were out an stealing all our bait. Now I'll know better for next time though!!!
Nice hook use overview
Merci, thanks.
Thanks for the informative videos. My wife and I are heading to Avon ( outer banks ) NC the last week of September. Hoping for tight lines.
Hit up the Oregon inlet, go right under the bridge is amazing!
Thank you. I'll check it out
Thanks for entertaining bro,,fish on
Hey watching from monterey ca. Love your video gave a great edea of fishing thank you
Bro thank you so much for your content you have no idea how helpful its been .... Im 2 month into fishing and all your videos have been helpful
Fish at 19:00 are called white grunt, or key west snappers if on the fishing party boats. They taste pretty good.
Thanks for the tips it helps me alot # hey skipper
That fish your girl caught with the spot on the back was a Lane Snapper
Never a lot going on at skyway for such a beautiful place
I use 4, 2, treble hooks, usually 2 hooks on a wire leader for pier fishing, since I would lose my bait less often.
fished from santa monica pier using sabiki feather rig, you throw it out as far as you can and reel it in as fast as you can and hook the fast mackerels or senioritas
15:03 in malaysia we call that fish Jenahak which is Malaysia's type of snapper. People in Malaysia love that fish and it is a great game fish cause it can grow massive up to 5 kilos.
Like the hook talk
Very good friends
Great Video !!! Semper Fi!!
In some states where striped bass range, you have to use inline circle hooks now if you're targeting bass. J Hooks and O'Shaughnessy are illegal for stripers in NY and CT. Offset hooks are also illegal for stripers in both states.
how on earth would they enforce this? just curious I live in NJ. not that they have to worry about me catching anything lol
Great video! When were you at the skyway? Was there in early august and red tide still had things messed up…
@Hey Skipper We live in the same area! I live close to Skyway Bridge! Your vids inspired me to buy a fishing pole & im buying tackle this week! Teach me how to catch big fish!! Lol
High low for bream porgy fish finder with a circle hook with a toothy critter leader
@8:30 Car driving by like a boss with a half dozen rods on the hood
That Lane Snapper is also Filipino ultralite anglers like to fish for here in the Philippines. So good for sour soups or broth with vegetables. It's meat is tasty if it's fat.
5/0 long shank is what we use for mackerel.
😊😋🙌 .
Hey Skipper. I’ve learned a lot from you. Here’s one for you! I’m a DENTIST and I see fishermen every season with broken teeth from biting line.
AVOID THIS HABIT
excess line.
AVOID THIS HABIT
I binge watch all your videos for a month before vacation every year. Fishing in ocean city after Labor Day. What am I going to be catching that time of year?
What kind of line are you using braided or mono and how many pounds and what’s best for pier fishing
I am in one of bushi vids he is one of the best shore fisherman ive ever met
Wowww is the best fishing👍
Great vid. Thank you for the info. :)
Hey, appreciate the love and support!! Just to let you know I've got some killer fishing gear over at www.heyskipperfishing.com.
Check it out-I think it'll help your fishing game big time.
In HAWAII most of us that goes fishing used Circle offset hooks
Hey skipper do you keep a record of all the catch’s and bait’s and hooks you use
15:07 I think it’s a dotted snapper the ones in the Red Sea have different colors I might be wrong but the one thing I’m sure of is they are really tasty when fried 😂
I believe you have to use Circle hooks on certain bait. Have to re read Texas saltwater law again. Might be in the lane or red part.. Looks like a Lane Red she got there
The first fish you asked, I think it is either a Lane Snapper. or Blackspot Snapper.
it was a lane i looked it up
it has to be at least 8" to keep 10 bag limit
I think it might actually be a mutton snapper with that black spot.
This was very informative!! Love your videos. I'm in South Fl. What pier is this ??
In Jamaica the fish with the red mouth is called a Grunt
That throw up was crazy
Yea! For sure!
@Hey Skipper That's actually very common when they are feeding on glass minnows. They will gorge themselves until they literally cannot fit anything else in! When you see them tearing up a school on the surface, you can be sure of two things:
1- You're about to catch a ton of Spanish.
2- You're about to spend a whole lot of time cleaning up.
P.S.- In Florida you are legally required to use non-stainless steel, non-offset circle hooks when targeting Mangrove Snapper.
I'm not trying to nitpick, but with the size of your audience, it would be a good idea for you to promote responsibility when it comes to our fisheries. That law in particular not only saves fish from getting gut hooked, but also helps keep our reefs from being littered with stainless steel hooks that last SO MUCH LONGER and are dangerous for reef life and divers alike.
If you don't have it yet, you should check out FWC's free app called Fish Rules. It will check your exact location and list every applicable law, size limit, and bag limit by species, including any local areas with specific limitations (Florida has lots of these). It also has several photos of each species to help with identification. It's incredibly handy and completely free.
I'm new in fishing. Right now i don't even know nothing. But my neighbor took me to a trip fishing we got 30 porgys each. And now i can't stop thinking about fishing. I love fried fish. But fish them is my New hobby. Never fished in my 42 years old. But. I love it. My friend told me. Not every day you get them...
"THAT IS WHY IS CALL (FISHING) NOT CATCHING" But remember a bad day fishing is bether that a bad day working.
Great video, which size is your first hook of the video, about a #5/0?
For 15.09 in singapore for malays we called that thunder fish
Hey Skipper on the long shank hook for the Spanish Mackerel what type of knot are you using to tie with on that setup
Lane snapper only have to be 8 inches. Delicious!
Those fish you caught in the end with the red mouth is called a tomate it is a type of grunt.
In Singapore, we call it the 'ang chor kee'
I think this fish is also call a pigfish
The fish with the red mouth are red lip fish. Your video was very helpful thank you.
Lane snapper in Trinidad.
they taste good
Notifications didn’t work for this video lol. I blame UA-cam. Btw I love circle hooks for bait fishing for stripers but for rockfish which do not inhale baits, I use a 5/0 j hook. Trout I use size 10 salmon egg hook. For lings I use long shank j hooks
I’ve been wondering this mysef
Hope Bushi will get more Subs, he is a great father to his kids.
@Hey Skipper I'm looking for a hat similar to what you had on ..what kind of hat is that ? Any links ?
Come up to Juno pier
Just wondering how long did you fish that day and what time?
Where did you get those hats? Great video.
Red mouth was a grunt, the dark colored one.
Nice video great content! I just moved to Florida Where is that at your fishing?
