    Hi, I need to know how many wires are connected to the socket that is connected to the temperature sensor.

    Teflon tape is used to keep the sensor from leaking. Always use it.

      The new sensor will come with some redish sealant on it that conducts electricity. It is designed to seal the sensor without any PFTE (generic for Du Pont's Teflon) tape. IF you use other additional sealant OR Teflon tape, you run a risk of the sensor not sending the correct resistance to the computer. I had to make this mistake once to have someone explain why the system still didn't work right. You might get by using it, or you might not.

      @@chuckasbury8991 thankfully somebody made a knowledgeable comment about using Teflon tape, the ass wiping this video is a moron and you should never use teflon tape on any type of heat sensor, the new sensor will come with the ceiling compound already applied to the threads and if it doesn't you can use permatex thread sealant high temp and only put a little bit on. UA-cam is home of the retard video makers and if you follow their defective videos you either kill yourself or room everything you're working on.

    Just thought I'd comment on this video-
    Thanks for the advice! I did not know that with the Mercury Sables, Taurus's etc., the coolant sensor can prevent the car from starting... It would crank over great, but would not start.
    I went and removed the fitting from the sensor, put it back on, and Voil'a! worked like a charm. I didnt need to change it out..
    Again, Thanks for the advice ! Merry CHRISTmas

    Teflon tape, go with the thread so it doesn’t come off while installing. Also good rule of thumb is to wrap 3 rotations or until threads just begin to appear to fatten as some threads are deeper than others depending on what you’re applying the Teflon to.

    By the way very helpful. The Haynes was showing the sensor and sender next to each other somewhere on the side of the block. But this verified that it was indeed the single unit next to the thermostat for me.

    What are the symptoms of a bad ECTS?

      +Al Smith what I experienced was this, first run of the day the car would act like nothing wrong and in about 20 minutes the car started to act up, things like crazy idle from 800-2000 rpm and pressing on the fuel peddle the car would almost die and then rev right up, please keep in mind I have changed the tps and the IAC cleaned the MAF new spark plugs/wires and changed the inertia switch which turns the fuel pump off when involved in a crash I fix the part that totally makes sense and the problem shows up again and again im mentally getting nickled and dimed to death with chasing electrical problem!!

    Where is the cooling fan relay located, the fan will not shut off while the car engine is running .

    Was your temp gauge on the dash falting out ? Mine is buried all the way past hot and was going back in forth from cold to hot and now does not go back to cold at all.

      did you ever figure out why it was doing that? Mine is doing the same, and I have already changed the senor like in the video.

      @@dennisherman4122 Taurus Dash lights are notoriously awful. A lot from the manufacturer in the early 00s were soldered very poorly. If you want, you can do a dash light test by getting into the "Engineering Mode" on your dash.
      1. Turn the key to the on position.
      2. Hold the "reset" button until your dash says "Engineering test mode." Release the button.
      3. Start your car. Now with the reset button you can scroll through different tests and info. One is a "gauge test." If you notice any gauges not working smoothly during that (quick) test, then it's the gauge itself, and not the sensor.
      Best of luck.

    Why should u put the tape on the end?

    if the sensors are bad your fans wornt turn on and your car will over heat

  • @rudylimas
    @rudylimas 9 років тому

    Is that just personal preference or is it a requirement for most cars to put on tape on the temperature sensor?

    • @davidhunt4291
      @davidhunt4291 2 роки тому

      The tape is only necessary if you don't want a leak and and have to start over. Sometimes they won't leak.
