my car is ford tuarus 03 ses its getting stuck idling high when i go from 0-30 then slow down right away if i go slow an stop it stays idling just under the 1000 rpms probably 500 regauluarly is what it seems like my dealer ship cant even figure it out..you got any ideas
The hose linked in the description as "RH" is that the one you are discussing at 3:47 ? Thank you this was very helpful...thats the only hose I cant figure out where it goes
I really have learned a ton from you...Thank you! You helped me with many tasks on my old F-250 & now with my girlfriends Taurus. I hope everyone gets as much out of your videos as I do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me. Enjoy the weekend!!!!
From my own experience with my 01 DOHC Taurus is to replace all oxygen sensors and check all hoses and boots for deterioration. Also make cetain the air cleaner cover is tight, that can cause an eractic idle.
My whole life I've heard about stuck open PCV valves causing oil consumption problems. However, I've never actually seen one. Till now! Very cool. Thanks Brian!!
When Ford finally updated the DOHC motor for the 2004 Taurus, I was super happy - they fixed all the stupid vacuum leaks with using metal valve covers, and just left the plastic for the upper plenum and lower intake. And they moved the PCV to a much more logical location. Doing the PCV on a 2000-2003 is not the most fun task in the world. I bought a 2000 DOHC motor for $200, replaced trans - cracked case, 99K miles. Found it had two cracked vacuum lines, clogged PCV (like this), as well as seeping valve cover gaskets and a flattened upper plenum o ring. I did a full gasket set up top (upper and lower), valve cover gaskets,, Motorcraft plugs and PCV, vaccum lines, cleaned IAC, and that engine was 100%. It went down the road great, good power and did well. Sold it to a friend needing reliable transportation.
02 Taurus 190k...I've replaced my PCV and "Elbow" twice...Each time it/they failed the car was basically useless...Who would have thought that those parts so overlooked on the 70's cars (Oil in the air filter housing) would create such driveability issues today.
matt8863 I had the same problem on my 02 Taurus...not with the pcv itself but with the replacement rubber grommet. Still not sure why but the replacement one hardened in a matter of months. My guess is that I had used an aftermarket pcv valve and it was metal instead of plastic like the original one. Maybe being metal it got too hot. I got an OEM pcv(another hard plastic one) and haven't had the hard rubber issue since.
I have a 03 Taurus 24v DOHC...I'm not a car mechanic, but it seems to have no issues as yet ..I like it, it's faster than any car I've owned...really thinking of getting a SHO model... With the eco boost..
Finally Found-fixd every vacuum leak today on my 2000 Taurus with a vulcan unless it's at the rear canaster, now I have a ticking on drivers side, not coming from valve covers. EGR selonoid vac connection was last leak I found. Still idles rough but not as bad.
2001 Mercury Sable LS. I suspect this may be my problem,.......before I attempt to get that sucker out,...would it hurt if I pocked a straw into the pcv valve and gave it a couple of quick shots of throttle body cleaner(cold engine) just to see if it loosens the gunk and improves my high cold start idle? Should I do this? If it makes a difference,.......then I'll attempt to get that sucka out there. Ceskoslovenska.
Hello, I used a 7/8" socket with an extension to insert and turn the pcv valve. I notice the pcv valve didnt have a positive stop...when i snugged it up..if i turned it a tiny bit more it would start turning again until it snugged up..and on and on. So i was careful to snug it up just enough and than stop. IS this normal that the pcv valve could turn continually?
I have a 2005 ford taurus that will not pass smog. When i took to a mechanic they cleared the codes and just said to go drive it for a month and then bring it back when the light goes off. Well, i want to know what the exact problem is with these cars not passing smog so i can fix it in the future. I might drive it and it may never turn off the engine light so i can pass smog.. Please help.
Hi. I have a 2013 ford Taurus and it has now power to the starter relay. When I applied 12v to the starter relay car will start with the key. And alternator light stays on. Can you help?
Good day bud. I'm from the UK and have this exact engine in my car. I have a problem with high revs but if i pull over, switch the engine off, it goes away. The iacv is new too. Along with this, if i press the clutch pedal only a few millimetres, the revs hang but slowly drop to idle but if i let my foot off the clutch, the revs drop fine. Any help would be much appreciated 👍
I have a 2003 ford taurus ses 3.0L have replace the intake and the egr valve, egr pressure feedback sensor, egr vacuum solenoid. All my vacuum lines are good. Check the IAC by disconnecting and the car dies. Idle is still running rough. What is a possible cause for it to be running rough no high idle, just runs rough?
On my sable I got P.O. 171 and 174 I believe after changing Pcv and cleaning air intake and cleared codes I got back a P.O. 171 and a 455 i think for evap system and gas cap loose Upon inspection of evap valve under found vac hose from bank 1 to evap valve on right next to ac charge valve split replaced and cleared all codes no problem after
I have a 2001 e150 van the key chime stays on when the key is out and drivers door is open and shuts off when you shut the door it thinks the key is in the ignition and it is out any fixes thanks
Hey I got a question about my air intake that I believe from what you said , connects to the rear intake valve Well my rear intake valve is hanging by itself not connected. Maybe you can get back to and let me .know what's it take to reconnect. I wish I could post a picture. Thanks Timmy
Eye have a 2000 mercury and I have changed the hose but can't find a video to show me the exact location for the VALVE EYE ALSO HAVE THAT SAME WET OIL LOOKING STUFF ON THE FRONT OF MY VALVE COVERS HELP‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Hello again, have a question with the wiring of the DPFE sensor connector 2000 ford Taurus. My connector to the DPFE sensor broke and I had to replace it but I am not sure if I spliced the wires back correctly. I know the middle is the ground but the red wire and brown wire not sure of the pin location. Any help would be appreciated. Also the new plug wiring is not numbered or color coded. Ken.
Great diagnoses as usual. Aftermarket IAC valve, aftermarket pcv valve and what do u know. Perfect. Jk. I know Motorcraft is better, but in a pinch u gotta do what ya gotta do. Working on 2010 Transit connect. The h/p power steering hose is a Jim dandy. My thumbs r raw. The teflon ring is an absolute disaster of a design. Any comments? U don't post too much on the Focus engine. Like the cam and crank sprockets with no keyways. This one came in with all exhaust valves bent. The sprocket slipped. When I put it back together, I ignored the 59 ft. lb. torque spec and gave it at least 75-80. I know u r going to chew me out. But we need all the help we can get with this design. Love all your vids but haven't found one from u on this design. Which I hate
Bill Rimmer I agree with aftermarket being generally fine(use it as often as I can), but I tried putting an aftermarket iacv on my 02 Taurus SE OHV and it bucked like a MF lol...turns out something was changed regarding the little moving piece(piston? idk what it's called lol) inside the new valve. Bought a motorcraft one (for three times the cost of the other) and it was thankfully identical to the old one :-)
I need some information and help on 2008 Fusion it won't start and I replaced ECM/PCM when the engine light came on i check it code came up that's when I replaced it idk what else to do
I have the same problem in a 2003 Taurus. Will I have to take of the intake..............or is their an easier way to change my PVC and hose without removing the intake? Thanks
I have and 2001 Ford Taurus my car is in high idle well being in park, the RPMs are at speeds of 75mph the problem begin after putting in some gas at a store do you have any ideas of what might be the cause
When I disconnect the iac nothing happens. Same RPM @ 1100 in park. The PVC valve looked easier to get to than my 2003. So you squeeze the rubber elbow to determine if pcv is functioning properly? Great video tip
this video was interesting period I have a 2003 Ford Taurus with the 24 valve engine she only has 70,000 miles on her. problem I have is when the car is put into reverse or drive standing still she occasionally burps and see if I misfire. no codes no check engine light. I have cleaned throttle body mass flow iac check hoses. even check for a small vacuum leak check the around the diaphragm of the power brakes booster. car runs okay as long as it's not in the idle section when running for too long example steady drive at 55 or 60 no problem until you decide to speed up. then she burps clear throat and keeps going curious I'll find out what it is eventually. I assume there is no code. because my check engine light is not on. but I have not scanned. guess my next step will have to be in getting a scanner.
+John Grzechowiak I used a combination of slip joint pliers and a pair of long reach needle nose no problem. I think the only thing removed was the air filter cover.
Same engine despite different looking valve covers. Is it normal for these engines to have that weird idle that sounds like a truck? It's almost like a knocking but it's not actually knocking? Or is it? I don't know
kevinstoyable The PCV valve was the culprit on my 2002 Taurus 24v DOHC with similar symptoms. P1506, high idle, surge in drive. Mine was brittle and slightly difficult to remove but it runs great after the repair.
Really informative vid! Awesome! Quick question...I've got an 02 Taurus SE OHV with a P1504 code (iacv circuit malfunction). The idle is normal (except with the a/c on in park...then it sometimes shudders/acts like it's going to stall; only does it when I'm already in park and then turn on a/c (not when I come to a stop and park with the a/c on already)). Put a new iacv in and it seems to work fine (car dies when I unplug it). I also got a new iacv connector and replaced wires about a foot back. Do you think I'll need to trace the rest of the wire for damage back to the pcm? or could it be something else? Thanks either way!
I have a 2007 escape with the 3.0 duratec with 180k miles on it. It has the rough idle and some oil consumption, like a quart or so per 1000 miles running 10w30. When I first got it I suspected the PCV valve but it's such a pain to get to anything on that motor and I got it in a trade for basically nothing and haven't wanted to spend time on it. Wondering if this could be the problem. Would there be any codes? Only code mine has is an o2 sensor signal stuck and it comes and goes
What are the vacuum hoses called that have the angle on them coming off of the valve cover into the intake? I have to buy new ones for my car and don’t know what they are called
Thank you I fixed the hoses and now my car idles properly when I’m in drive but a little high when I’m in park with no accessories that put force onto the engine
Hello. Great video, learned a few things. However, this is my issue. When I disconnect the IAC plug, the idle stays HIGH, and never comes down. It is like it was never disconnected. I went on the Ford Taurus Forum, and told them what I had tested, being the IAC unplug test, and one guy continuously tells me it is another vacuum line issue. That it is not the IAC, even though it never changed the HIGH idle. This car is DANGEROUS in the rain. As I am going up a grade in the rain, the front tires start to spin out of control. So, this issue needs to be resolved. I have looked and have not found any air leaks, nor do I hear any, as you can clearly hear in your video. So. Any suggestions? Would it be the IAC that is bad, since it fails the Unplug test? Or, is it, in fact, another air leak somewhere else that I am not able to find? Thanks. Wayne
How did you pull the PCV ? I have a 2002 DOHC duratec with high idle, but the message that I get is Idle Air Control overspeed error. P1506. Nothing about the PCV. However, I'm thinking that the PCV is probably original, and since I have one on hand, I'll change it. But how did you get it out?
in the ford Focus Mk2,5 - Duratec 2.0 flex fuel, Is it common to have small variations of RPM idle with motor still cold? After 1 ir 2 minutes it stabilizes. Are the cold phase oscillations normal? Sorry about my english. Thanks!
98 Taurus DOHC no issues with high idle but when driving and you take foot of the gas, engine doesn't slow down, or accelerate, but at a stop light, idle is good. Kinda confused.
@@kilvapkram4302 no, I'm still driving it as is, when I brake, and at stop lights, idle comes down to 500 ( stopped) and the car is never accelerating by its self, just a quark I'm used to now. I really have 0 intrest in taking apart the TB to get to the EGR valve, I'm thinking my issue is the emissions, intake system or idle control valve. This was supposed to be a throw away car that is still swinging just fine.
Great job as always! I still prefer working on jet engines :). Btw you are showing our age with the ren and stimpy reference. But at least you didn't push "the red, shiny, candy like button). :)
Man I wish you showed how to get that pcv out of there. I can barely touch it with pliers. I tried 7/8 was to big. Horrible horrible design a nightmare to get to.
I have 2001 grand Marquis and it start oil leaking but not massive about 1 liter during 3...4 months ...do you advice to use any re- seal to stop this minimal leak
Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaHave a 2003 Taurus 3.0 OHV....been having stalling and fast idle issues.speed will increase on it own. when stopped or in park If i turn on the air or the heater on DEF setting the RPM will fluctuate up and down then car will stall out.have checked for vacuum leaks and it seems ok

What's the box called that causes O2 sensor trips where all the hoses go cuz that's my leak
Very good camera work showing the PCV valve. That's so hard to show I can't believe you're able to actually do it.
It's also adding hydrocarbons because of the oil . Like a stuck open EVAP purge solenoid . Great diagnosis .
12 bucks later and my '02 runs like a champ. Thanks!

I saw this being demonstrated on South Main Auto. Apparently it's bad on Volkswagens.
I've been noticing my RPMS are higher at times, just came to check the videos and noticed this one, gonna check my PCV valves. nice video

2000 Taurus - 117,000 miles. Leak in PCV valve hose at the elbow. A challenge to replace the valve and hose. Car now runs great.
Thanks for another great video. You could also add the tag, where in the heck is the PCV valve on a DOHC.
He hit us with a Ren and Stimpy horseman reference!
Extra credit points for the R&S horse reference!

There is also the evap line. Next to the pcv. My 2000 DOHV also has oil aroung intake.
Thanks for the great video...i had the same problem on my 24 dohc..changed the pvc valve
My rpms were around 1200 rpms, so I changed the PVC valve and presto change o. Fixed the high idle down to about 700 rpms.
Finally Found-fixd every vacuum leak today on my 2000 Taurus with a vulcan unless it's at the rear canaster, now I have a ticking on drivers side, not coming from valve covers. EGR selonoid vac connection was last leak I found. Still idles rough but not as bad.
Awesome investigation. You sir, are a professional.
I unplugged mine just like he did this one and it idled down. Does that mean I have a vacuum leak?
OMG .. The Horse on Ren n Stimpy ...i loved that❤❤❤ ...i use that line often !!!😅😅😅
+1 for mention of Ren and Stimpy :)
Love these Taurus vids!

Good explanation of the diagnose and fix, thumbs up
What's the procedure for iac relearn after battery replacement?
Wish you could come take a look at my ford taurus 2004 with 100k orig miles

Keep up the videos on these tauruses cause I drive em and work on them and also flip some every now and then. thanks...!
A diagnostic that often isn't done is to measure crankcase vacuum. This gives away a stuck pcv valve.
171 and 174 I believe after changing Pcv and cleaning air intake and cleared codes
I got back a P.O. 171 and a 455 i think for evap system and gas cap loose
Upon inspection of evap valve under found vac hose from bank 1 to evap valve on right next to ac charge valve split replaced and cleared all codes no problem after
I have problem for at ford taurus 2005 3.0 singel cam the problem is when is cold is hart to start you have idea what can i do taks
That hose connecting the egr valve. What is that called and is it bad if I there is no hose connected to it?
i have an issue where the idle is so low itstalls and the brake pedal is hard
04:13 what part is that on the right of the intake with the round black knob on top?
I have a 2001 e150 van the key chime stays on when the key is out and drivers door is open and shuts off when you shut the door it thinks the key is in the ignition and it is out any fixes thanks
nice job Brian
Is it normal if you unplug the iac why the car is running it shuts the car off
Hey I got a question about my air intake that I believe from what you said , connects to the rear intake valve Well my rear intake valve is hanging by itself not connected. Maybe you can get back to and let me .know what's it take to reconnect. I wish I could post a picture. Thanks Timmy

Same here for my 05 mercury. Can’t find the pcv valve at all. Did you end up getting it fixed?

Good find
I need some information and help on 2008 Fusion it won't start and I replaced ECM/PCM when the engine light came on i check it code came up that's when I replaced it idk what else to do
Will this be similar to the ohv engine as well?
so i think you saved my butt yet again thank you , pd I have heat again cost me all of 55,00 canadian whoopi

Can you tell me which one it's spark plugs #1 cilynder 1?
When I disconnect the iac nothing happens. Same RPM @ 1100 in park. The PVC valve looked easier to get to than my 2003. So you squeeze the rubber elbow to determine if pcv is functioning properly? Great video tip
You squeeze it to see if it is stuck wide open.
I noticed that you did not remove the intake but how did you get to the pcv with the plastic housing for wires next to it?
long needle nose pliers.
thanks. that saves me time and 90 bucks if i took it in the shop
do you have a video for pump water for ford taurus 2003 , 24 V ???
No not yet sorry.

Would you recommend a smoke test on the system to check for leaks?
Is there an easy way to remove the PCV valve without removing the upper plenum? It's really buried down there.
+John Grzechowiak I used a combination of slip joint pliers and a pair of long reach needle nose no problem. I think the only thing removed was the air filter cover.
Thanks for you help
I've also used a deep well socket around a 15/16" 6 point IIRC.
Luckily my PCV hose was firmly stuck on the valve. Was able to rotate the valve out by using long needle nose on the hose.
I bought a long neck socket that fit the replacement PCV , I had purchased. As you said it is in a hard to reach spot.
Same engine despite different looking valve covers. Is it normal for these engines to have that weird idle that sounds like a truck? It's almost like a knocking but it's not actually knocking? Or is it? I don't know
Is the actual pcv valve in the valley on the engine or up on the j shape hose to the throttle body?
Brake clean spray is sensor safe? used to use carb cleaner to check for vac leaks
Just fine.
2003 Mercury Sable 24 DOHC, can a bad pcv valve cause car to surge when in drive, very light surge if any at all when in park.
kevinstoyable The PCV valve was the culprit on my 2002 Taurus 24v DOHC with similar symptoms. P1506, high idle, surge in drive. Mine was brittle and slightly difficult to remove but it runs great after the repair.

Did you change the intake gasket also? Not that they were the issue, but you said they were shot? Thank you for posting.
My Taurus 2003 is leaking oil with the code p1120, leaked oil in a matter of days after an oil top off
What scan tool did you use? Is it ford specific? Keep up with the nice work!
Yes it is the Ford IDS scanner.
What are the vacuum hoses called that have the angle on them coming off of the valve cover into the intake? I have to buy new ones for my car and don’t know what they are called
Pcv hoses
Thank you I fixed the hoses and now my car idles properly when I’m in drive but a little high when I’m in park with no accessories that put force onto the engine
you are my hero! great stuff!
Does anyone know the exact location of the PCV valve?
It's on the top right side of the engine, it is either gold like the one he has or silver. It has one pigtail going to the iac.
is it possible to burn 1 liter of oil per 1500 km of a bad pcv valve
Thanks.
Wayne
Because it’s getting another source of air ..watch the beginning it happens on that car to
Is this a similar fix for p0171?
YES
@@FordTechMakuloco thanks man dealing with quite a few shitty hoses right now
I learned I need to check my pc valve before I replace IAC
Did you figure it out?
I have similar,.."doesn't slow down/accelerate" problems on 01 Sables.
the oil helped the air slip right into the cylinders :)
Man I wish you showed how to get that pcv out of there. I can barely touch it with pliers. I tried 7/8 was to big. Horrible horrible design a nightmare to get to.
my Ford almost dies if let it idle. I just got my oil change and the shop just looked it over and I have no idea where to look
same issue here
Same here just thought it was low on oil but it leaked it all out the next few days.
+FordTechMakuloco My 2010 escape (v6 with 112,000mi) shakes at stoplights, could this be because of bad o2 sensors?
Ray Klotz check the engine mounts
likely a misfire, those coil on plugs tend to go bad quite frequently. unplug each coil one at a time to see which one isn't hitting
The motorcraft pcv cost 24.99 now 😢
Excuse me but I need location iac in the 3.0 motor ford five hundred 2005
It is part of the electronic throttle body.
@@FordTechMakuloco thanks, some video

Nice!
How many of us Googled the horse on Ren and Stimpy?
...explains carbon build up in the throttle body
I have 2001 grand Marquis and it start oil leaking but not massive about 1 liter during 3...4 months ...do you advice to use any re- seal to stop this minimal leak
Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaHave a 2003 Taurus 3.0 OHV....been having stalling and fast idle issues.speed will increase on it own. when stopped or in park If i turn on the air or the heater on DEF setting the RPM will fluctuate up and down then car will stall out.have checked for vacuum leaks and it seems ok
check your o2 sensors
that was a good video
These sensors and their locations really remind me of a KL-DE
A video showing how the PCV was replaced would be much more helpful. Only Ford would bury a PCV there.
