Thanks! You informed me about new things today!
I love your videos!!!! You are a great teacher!!! Thanks for all you do👍🏻
Thanks man you have saved me a lot on a couple of my cars 😂
Beautifully explained....
Great info!
Yo man me and my '96 Civic thank you for all this info 👏🏼
Thanks Brad! Same thing happened to our Yukon. I actually
Broke the clip so now have to figure out that repair.
Theres Some Adhesive for that situation....

5/5 stars ! Quick, concise and easy to check 🎉 Thanks for all your help.
Very helpful. I have 2 of the symptoms (Black smoke and error codes) but the car seems to run pretty much Ok when it reaches operating temperature. The garage is going to change the sensor anyway.
Thanks 👍 great video
Would a bad sensor cause the engine to labor ping? Doesn't do it when engine is cold. Gauge doesn't show it getting hot
Appreciate it bro! You saved us from getting scammed by a mechanic shop
Thing is - most people go there just because they lack the energy to deal with the issue - I get it if it’s something like blown piston - but for something as small as this - grab a code reader and replace parts - the internet is already giving you all the information
Holy smokes- you literally saved us $2500 on a head gasket job. Our mechanic wanted to throw a new engine in it! Whew!! THANK YOU!!
@@staciehahn9175Hello what was the symptoms u were having that the mechanic thought was a head gasket
Thanks bro. Good one
Thanks had some doubts
PERFECT!
Would it cause a crank no start on 2003 Chevy blazer 4.3?
Is it possible rewire a 2 pin connector in place of the the old 4 pin connector? Because I can only find a 2 pin temperature sensor. I can’t find a 4 pin temp sensor anywhere for my car. 1993 Chevy corsica. If you have any advice I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Good vid bud👍

would it also cause the ac system to not put out heat?
Thank u😁
Would it also cause a/c not to come on ? And gauge not to work ?
On my Jetta the fans turn on 190 . Witch dash gauge is normal .replaced top coolant temp sensor .. someone said there's a other sensor on bottom corner of radiator where lower radiator hose is ?? Should I replace this also
Hello, my car is a fiat bravo 2 2008 1.6 multijet diesel. Since I have it from the last summer the car does not have a stable idle. In the winter that problem was gone. This summer it is here again. I tried a lot of things but nothing is helping. Now I have error codes P01EA and P0487(for EGR). P01EA looks like very generic code but it looks like the ones for engine coolant problems. So I am thinking is it possible for a faulty coolant temperature sensor to cause an unstable idle when the car is warming and hot? For example, maybe the coolant temperature sensor is sending wrong information to the ECU that the car is still cold and the ECU is pushing the wrong air-fuel mixture as if the car is cold? Thanks in advance!
What should the temp be in a 5.3 Vortec engine. Have 2013 suburban tku
Thank you Jeevesus
Need help please. I got a P0128 code for bad thermostat. I replaced it. The check engine light went off assuming because i took off the battery cable while doing the replacment. The light came back on 2 weeks later. Scanned the code and got the same P0128 code. Do i just need to delete it using the OBD2 scanner? No overheat, no leaks, temp is normal and good. Any suggestions? A buddy of mine said it could be bad coolant temp sensor but i didnt get the codes u provided in the video.
Would this help with a p1217 on a Infiniti?
nice thanks
So I have a 2003 Mercedes’ slk230 car starts and runs, when the engine is warmed up under 1k idle I go out for a drive. After the drive, park it and turn it off to go out for 15-20 minutes, and start the car again, but it was stall but still turn over. Could the sensor be out and fuel not be deliver properly
Great job I hate when the mention of bad idle is not brought to diy ppls attention
On older cars it can cause a no start too. My 94 bronco with minimal tech relies on the signal to calculate fuel ratio for operation. If it’s bad and reading too cold, it’ll flood the engine with fuel and if it’s the opposite, it’ll starve the engine of fuel which pretty much cuts the pulse to nothing and there’s nothing to ignite and make it run. Keep that in mind 👌🏽
So i rebuilt my 86 5.0 efi and been chasing tail changing every sensor/controller/switch,hopefully its this
Awesome! Maybe this has been my problem the whole time :) my car will only start in cold weather, so maybe the temp sensor is reading too hot on normal days and not giving enough fuel!
Sat 3/4/24 almost 8 pm
My 03 dodge ram 5.7 liter temp gage goes to HOT rather quickly and no sign of leaks and engine does not seem to run any different than normal.
On the way home today I could hear the fans running but temp gauge was reading 175 degrees but by the time I got home it was reading 160 degrees and when I turned off the ignition, the fan would not shut off. The fan ran for several minutes until the engine cooled down and then shut off. Will replace the sensor tomorrow. A big thanks.
Hey were you able to resolve that problem? I'm experiencing the same with my car. It would heat up and when I turned off the ignition the fan stayed on for awhile.
@@DC-comics4life Yes and sorta no. I replaced the sensor and not the thermostat. The fan seems to be normal again. I say sorta because I am not sure the temp is coming up to the normal operating range. It stays around 180 plus or minus 5 or so on the gauge. Using my scanner, it shows the ECT ranging from 155 to 165. If I let it idle 15 min. it will gradually creep up to around the 190 mark. I plan on going ahead and changing the thermostat next week if problems don't show up before then.
What if the fans continue to run? Is the sensor still the issue? Run with car off and key out. I've changed relays and check coolant levels. Fan still continues to run.
What about water would it operate the same with regular water ?
Very good informative video. Thanks for sharing. Helped to cover the thermostat part. i have 2010 ML550, just wanted to know where exactly this sensor is located? If i can have a diagram or picture to locate it so that i can replace it. Appreciate your help!"
I got a 2019 fusion 2.5 changed the temp sensor reset the check engine light was doing fine for last 3 weeks now it's back on but not overheating or anything Has ran fine the whole time even before I changed it out just temp sensor and check engine on light temps right in the middle on temp any suggestions thanks
Would it make my car say the coolant level is low even tho it's full?
My gauge doesn’t go up it all,I check the thermostat and is good, and I replace the temperature sensor unit and still not working, any thoughts.
Does it make the engine rev high and low at idle? 1990 2.2 toyota
Great vid Appreciate it!! 👏👏👍
Will the sender have anything to do with the fans coming on late? Not the sensor
Hopefully this helps me but this was a great video forsure
Hello, help pleased! My fans work when I unplugged the sensor, but they won't work when I turn on my ac, could this still be just the sensor?
Ty
Could this be why my truck takes forever getting to operating Temp bad sensor
Whats and estimate cost to repair? I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent
I replaced the cooling fan relays and the cooling fan fuses and I replace the cooling fan itself and cooling fan works and turns on and coolsbthe engine and the AC is ice cold. However as soon as I turn on my car or when the car is idling once i park it, that's when the AC is not cold the fans aren't spinning. And I just replaced the fan the fuse and the relays. Also replaced the thermostat too. And the only thing I have not changed was the engine coolant temperature sensor. Ben still the fans still spin and the AC still gets cold but once I hit the throttle or gas pedal. I noticed every time the engine misfires while idling, that's when the fans don't spin and the AC is not cold. What the hell is wrong with my car? The check engine light is on but it's only reading one code.
Is it possible for it to have the opposite symptoms if it's reading your car is too hot when it's not causing the fans to stay on always and the gauge to read higher?
@Makula-px8fr I sold it to my brother and he fixed it I think it was the thermostat
I turned my 2018 hyundai tucson sport off and came back outside 3hrs later and my fan was running? Can you help?
What if i have the p0115 code, but the car is still running good? No symptoms you mentioned just the code?
Thanks very helpful definitely getting changed now even though I do get great gas mileage I'm steadily trying to better that gas is to much gotta keep up with these old vehicles or they will be junk in a fast rate if that makes sense. Probably got around $6,000 dollars into a 500 dollar truck lmao but I'm happy so f it I just wish insurance would cover me for what I say vehicle is worth I can very easily prove it to 4k for transmission alone whole suspension is brand new just had to replace brake booster now temp gauge and probably next will be the rack and pinion. Since the new booster the brakes work to good can't get used to it lol it might need to go back see what he can do about that turn it down lol.
My 2013 malibu has a failed ECT sensor. Would that be why my car sounds louder when driving? feels like the car is overwhelming its self for only a sedan? Also, as soon as that happened, the temp was stuck on C and my air condition could NOT blow COLD AIR, JUST FAN. please let me know brother if my car engine noise would fix up and the other issues as wel
Happened to me yesterday. EXACT same. Stuck on C and A/C not blowing cold at all. Halfway on the drive home. In Texas so it’s July and BLAZING HOT. 102+. Would hate for somebody to screw me over for a $10/15 part. Let me know something brother. 2013 ATS here. Same engine as Malibu.
Hey man I apologize. I ended up needing to replace the water outlet The part its self cost me 100$. I just took it to the mechanic, I couldn’t handle it.
Hi bro, when i start my car for the first time in the morning , car start bud immidiatly die. After second start car everithing is good. I changed coil, cable, spark plug. Is coolant temp. senzor could cause this ptoblem? Thanks
Hi when I turn on my car it overheat what is the problem or it sensor of temperature that is not working
2000 mercury cougar. V6 engine temp fluctuates up and down. Gets very close to red but no weird smoke coming out from pipe. When i get past 3k rpm it feels kinda like a chug. Any possibility the temp sensor is bad? It does this intermittently. No leaks, engine light IS on, and getting somewhat bad mileage. AC blows ice cold and heat blows hot.
My Chrysler 200s fan stays on after turning off the engine and removing my keys, replaced the thermostat 4 months ago and it stopped and the check engine light went off. So I wonder if it’s the sensor, but no check engine light is on this time🤷🏻♂️ checked fuses/relays. Everything looks fine but fan stays on
My nissen tiida is overhesting and suddenly turns off of an engine while i'm driving, when i turns on the is running always may be if i can change teperasure sensor it can stop that habit thanks help keep on❤it
I have an 02' Blazer ZR2.
Mine is reading spot on when I look with my scan tool but my gauge is off.. The gauge was just reading correctly a few months ago. The coolant sensor is only a year old.
The scan tool shows 197° to 195°
& my dash gauge shows 210°.
It's running fine & getting sticker mileage at 16mpg in town, which is what the 02' sticker shows.
Will ect make one won't idea
i got code P011A, What does this code mean?
Question, I have an 03 GMC Sierra, starts up no problem in the cold but when the engine is warm i get crank no start. I have a p0118 code, could this be the problem?
Could be possible. On other vehicles with that same problem you have iv found it to be faulty cam sensor. If u change that I would recommend changing the crank sensor too.
Bro, I just changed the Thermostat, and Engine coolant temperature on my 2015 Grand Cherokee. The dealer says it's normal for the gauge to not be in the middle since it's old. I am like WTH? it's eating up fuel like crazy and no hot air coming out.. any other clues as to what it might be?
My sensors reads… but when I drive the temperature gage drops. There is no help on UA-cam for this! 😢
I have a 2000 accord 4cyl and both fans won’t turn on even when I turn the A\C on, would that be the temperature sensor or would it be the thermostat? Btw no check engine light on
Your issue is the temp switch sensor. 1 sensor controls fans, other reports temp to ECU. Replace the temp switch sensor, also replace fuses associated to cooling fans. It could just be a bad fuse and 2$ fix, try that first and then coolant switch sensor
Would this cause an engine to not start ? My truck only starts when it's hot outside
i would like to know, the new ect won't turn the on ac; it says the engine is hot a/c off
@@easyautofix my car shows that on a FAULTY ECT SENSOR..will it show again after gettin it replaced??
@@easyautofix also, if we do expericne it..how do we fix? add antifreeze??
So my ac stop working the fans stay on after I turn car off and the heat gauge is stuck at C
Any advice???
My vehicle starts fine, like literally starts right up cold, but after I run it for say 30 mins and shut the vehicle off, then let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then jump back in it to start, it’s like it starts hard or delay starts when it’s hott. That leads me to not believe it’s the Cam Sensor or Crank Sensor. It’s leading me to believe it’s a Temp Sensor, especially based on research and evidence I’ve seen.
Could this be the case or could it be something more severe?? Thanks.
Would this also contribute to not getting heat out of the interior vents?
That usually means the system needs to be bled or the heater core is blocked. Pray it's the first one.
Thanks for your videos
but my car
When its hot the fan not working on high speed
Just working on low speed
So my car get over heated
my car recently has super low rpms & the tempature meter moves up & down & poor mpg
My temp gauge doesnt work now after mechanic replaced ect and thermostat, is the new ect bad or did the cluster get fried? everything else works on the cluster though. He said it will cost 500 bucks to replace cluster.
It sounds like an electrical gremlin, I doubt the cluster needs replacing as everything in the cluster usually works off the same fuse. If you can get or borrow a scanner that reads the engine temp as it rises you'll know the sensor is ok if it does.
@@dhalsim-1 or maybe an actual gremlin went in there and chewed one of my wires, i hear they are addicted to the shock. anyway thanks, im getting a different mechanic to look at it soon to see whats going on...and also i realized my check engine light doesnt come on at all.
can a bad ECT sensor wrongly read a temp way higher than reality and cause the engine to shut off?
If it reads hotter than it actually is, not only will the gauge reading be too high but it will also reduce fuel potentially stalling the car and preventing warm starts.
Can you still drive you vehicle with this issue
Can it cause my car to sputter at higher speeds ?
Nice video. Can a bad ECT sensor cause a check transmission light to come on? I ran a scanner on my car last week and got the code P2183. Which means most likely the ECT sensor is the cause for the problem.
If my coolant temp sensor is bad will the temp in the dash also reflect that?
Not always. It should but other things go too and don't show up like it should. It's why I hate Dummy lights for, sales people take some out so beware. Turn key on only and look for all lights that's in book. Not hard to remove the bulb, seen it done off my bad dashboard, friend replaced it and took bulbs out because hard to get.
@@JR-kr1lv yea I understand how that could be a problem but the gauge still goes up gradually to running temp and on cold start stays at cold temp for a while. This means it’s good right?
Can this cause truck to sputter? Maybe not enough air/fuel?
@@danielguerrieri2023 Check your timing bro. That was my issue, took it to a shop they thought it was my distributor. it ended up being my timing. I changed every possible sensor
For me it was my Tstat.actually.. low power, and tick.Due to inadequate temp.I think Scan toll showed bet. 150_158 °f N.G.! Tstat had coolant blow by.. 2001 GMC Safari mini van.4.Vortec
Wouldn't the temperature guage have a false reading? Mine reads accurate but the fan doesn't come on
I’m having his problems too reads at 190 gegrees not over 220 but fans never come on smh
@@thefrznrose5114 you are right. My car have 3 sensors. One for the gauge, one for the fan and one for the ecu. It is a Honda Accord btw. Oh and the faulty sensor gives me 16l mpg. And bad idle when cold.
Would this cause the Catalytic code keep coming up. Runs very good at different speeds, did run a total of 3 bottles of Catoclean. 2 back to back and 3rd one few tanks later, replaced both 02 Sensors and light did go off but came back on about a month later and 3rd ran, and kept doing that every few tanks, put new gas cap on also. Did replace heater hose that was back ordered last winter. Light started to blink on and off in one ride and stayed off so couldn't find out why, replaced heater hose and grommet that antifreeze got on, I figured with reading up. It was that. Went off and stayed off. Then came back on 4 or 5 months later with light coming on full time fora week and off. Bought a cheap scanner to check, got tired of going to parts store for it. Did clear code about 10 times after it came on right away since, it's cleared itself haven't checked the fuel injectors yet, has a brand new tune up from summer before with just 15,000 miles on it max with new coil packs and all parts. a tune-up should be done right and replace old coil.packs too, kept them incase, I'm ready to check all plugs again to see how there burning but 1st check each injector. Then pull spark plugs out. It's due for inspection in March 2023. Want it fixed. I wondering if the ECU can cause this issue? I only spelled somewhat to say rotten egg smell once and wasn't sure if us or car in front. Its 4WD and if punch the gas peddle taking a left onto another street. It will spin the tires and I get off of it soon being 4WD and don't want to break anything in drivetrain. Anyone have any ideas besides changing the Catolectic converter which I plan on replacing both, any preferred brands other than factory parts at those crazy prices. I could shut it off and it may stay off for a month but I won't just because either way, it needs fixing and I just did brakes, tires 2 years ago 80 000 mile Michelin tires and gave it a nice buff job when light stayed off. Anyone with ideas please send them open to listening to other's, its why I replaced stuff for, should of let them fix it. Just not that 1 garage since no place to work on in December and that was my Christmas present $818 charge and said Radiator was shot, not when I checked it out and was taking back but they had ripped apart putting Radiator in because I found it on ebay motors for $73 with shipping. Quoted me $778 for all plus tax and 15% off labor which only charged 3 hours but said Radiator cost $378 bucks, new from Honda wholesale warehouse shipped to me was $260 factory and this one loose. Cut trans lines to fit it. Not factory that's for certain.
What about it not heating up needle barely rises off of cold
Would a bad sensor Not trigger an engine light and Not cause rich fuel, or bad gas mileage.. Only problem is radiator fans don't come on when engine is hot, only when a/c is on low speed kicks on
Hey bud u ever figure out that problem? 🤔 mines doing the same thing as soon as I turn the blower switch to high & hit the recycle air in cabin button it kicks on.. then I can turn it off & it still stays on ..till I turn car off... but sounds like the same problem 😕 🙄 🤔. Lemme know thx man
You forgot to include (as for me is a major sign of issues with said sensor as it has happened twice on different vehicles from different brands) that another and very noticeable symptom is that the vehicle's engine stalls (lightly but noticeably) during acceleration at certain RPM levels when the engine is still cold (like in the mornings), as if the engine being almost out of fuel or having an electrical issue, this disappears once the engine has reached its normal operating temperature but is constant and does not go away (despite no ck might be seen dash-wise or through a scan) until the unit has been replaced...
yup happened to me with my 92 subaru loyale , also with a bad tps will do that
Is the engine coolant Temperature sensor and the water temperature sensor the same thing ? I really can’t tell. .
Acura TL : part number 37870-RTA-005
I would greatly appreciate your response, Mr.Mechanic from afar
@@robertfranks3934 no the engine temperature sensor runs the fans .the coolant level sensor warns of low coolant..
On mines it’s saying engine is hot while AC is off.. what could that be but car is not running hot and the fan comes on
When I step on the gas going over 80 it starts passing 1/2 temperature and I changed the thermostat on my gmc 2014 sierra 5.3 so if anyone can help me it’ll be great next thing I might change is sensor
And I go 60 just cruising 60 and it’s always at half I step on it and it goes over half almost reaching 3/4
I think mine is a bad temp gauge it shows hot then goes normal it fluctuates. And I just had a brand new radiator installed
In the ford ranger, this same looking sensor is the sending unit to the cluster guage temp meter. The sensor is conical and also by the thermostat.
When my engine is cold it does not start otherwise I press the accelerator it stays for about 1 minute at 1600 rpm and then goes down . I don t have any check engine light . Instead when the engine is hot it does non need anymore my foot on the pedal
Can this sensor be faulty enough to shut your A/C off ?
Same thing I want to know....My A/C stopped working when it got these symptoms.
Interesting. My cooling fan won’t turn on in my 97 legacy outback. It overheats because of this, but also my air conditioning doesn’t work too! I wonder if it’s the sensor now, I don’t get codes tho could the previous owner clear them?
97 Chevrolet s10 pickup.
It starts, fan turns on, idles fine, heater works, cool air works, but after ten minutes the temperature guage starts goin red.
Shut it off, sits two minutes, turn it on and it goes back into red. Ok check hose. Hose is not over heated.
What is happening? I'm new so I really have no idea. If anybody sees this, you know more than I do so please tell me your ideas. Thank you.
thermostat stuck in closed positon? Check water pump for circulation. My guess upper hose cold thermostat.
Thank you for watching!
