    It's 2024 and I will forever use a CD player! And BTW, this is the best video I've seen on removing the cluster. The other videos are very shaky and hard to see.

    Rather than disconnect the radio and heater controls, remove the center stack and let it hang. Then remove the 5 screws behind the radio. Now you can pull that bezel out of the way far enough to reach the lower right corner screw for the instrument cluster and that's it, no more fasteners. I have an auto electrical shop and I'm always scared to death to disconnect a radio, that bastard can lock up and make my life miserable. I watched your video to remind me which way to pry the horse shoes, I was pulling them in with no luck, so I figured I'd better refresh my memory. Thanks for the reminder Rich.

    I love that gear shifter! The front split bench seating is nice too. I miss the feel of a Column Shifted car. Everything nowdays is floor or button shifted unfortunately.

      Not with the Taurus. It's pretty cool how they designed it. Basically the seats are just like 2 bucket seats. With an added middle seat instead of a counsel. That's why I like split bench seats over bench seats. I've been in a 98 Taurus and even with the middle seat up, you stay in place. It's not like a Chevrolet Lumina.

      Taurus in front is a 3 Piece seat. Lumina is a 2 piece seat.

    Very well done, camera work and all. Thank you.
    I have to remove cluster on a 2001 Taurus SE wagon. It's Generatiion 4 and looks just the same, so this should help a lot. Got a pesky high beam light in there that stays on and draws down the battery. Pulling fuses and the multi-function switch have not helped.

    Excellent video on this topic. I have the Helm factory service manuals and the illustrations are terrible, some to the point that they're un-discernable; totally unlike the manuals of the recent past where you could at least figure out what you're looking at.
    Believe me, this video saves a lot of time and aggravation. One word of advice to those looking to change the bulbs in the instrument cluster, change all of the bulbs with new ones since you're there because the bulbs that haven't burned out are close to the end of their service lives. If your luck is like mine, another bulb would burn out soon after putting everything back together.

    Best video on You Tube!. I have the issue of dash lights not coming on when cold. I had my instrument cluster out in 20 minutes thanks to this video, Thank you richpin05a. Very well done. Excellent camera angles and showing how to get the connectors off (had trouble with the vacuum one). I used four 16 penny nails to get the radio out and they worked fine.

    • @MrWhaatay
      @MrWhaatay 8 років тому +1

      I cleaned the connections and bent the pins on the connectors to make better contact with the circuit board. It still works great.

    I was also having problems with my radio volume control not working right. Turning it up or down just made it go louder. I had to fight with it to change the volume.
    So while I had the dash apart I used a Torx T10 to take the radio face plate apart and then removed the the circuit board. I didn't have any contact cleaner and the volume control potentiometer looks pretty well sealed so I put some alcohol in the cap from the bottle and laid the circuit board so that the volume pot would be immersed in the alcohol and left it for a minute. I then worked the volume control up and down and soaked it again and then worked it some more.
    I wiped the excess alcohol with a rag and used a hair dryer to dry off the board. When I reinstalled everything the volume control now works fine. Don't know how long it will last but it is working great for now.

    I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES that I just bought used with 107,000 miles in excellent condition. But there is a dash bulb out where the temperature gauge is, and bulbs out under the radio, Do you know what kind of bulbs those are, that I need to replace, and where to get them? Some people have replaced those bulbs with LED's since they are brighter and last much longer.

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  9 років тому

      You would have to deform the ends or use four hands (two with the wires + two with screwdrivers ) might do it.
