- I received my new drilled discs for my Volvo S60R. I thought i'll do a guide how to spray paint discs to prevent from rust and also looks better.

My favourite rotor painting video 😱
You did everything so thoroughly and simple...these look like the Ridex rotors i have. Need to paint them to avoid rust
1. Use high temperature paint such as barbecue paint.
2. Paint both sides of the rotor, to limit corrosion inside the hub that will make it difficult to remove the rotor when the time comes.
3. Maintain popularity on home front by using newspaper to cover the cake stand and mask it from spray paint.
4. Rely on brake pads to remove paint from the contact surface of the rotors.
Very nice....love the Cake Stand idea...awesome
Next time let the paint fully dry and cure before laying it face down on the cardboard.
As much as I agree, it isn't going to matter much as the tire rim will be on the face front anyways.
@@Tig3rj He still could've waited until the paint was dry... Or else you would have black paint on your wheels...
Cut out a round template out of thin cardboard or thick paper to mask the disc. Then place a metal coat hanger through the lug holes. Its easier to just rotate the brake around as you spray from the proper angle vs kneeling on the ground. It's only takes like 30 seconds and you get a nice even coat.
Nice work
You dont need to mask it...
Premium rotors are delivered all painted. When you brake, the surface gets clean
Thanks for the video now i know that i can still use my wedding cake stand
Pups that you cut the cardboard as a stencil and put it over it?
Shouldnt you have done a light coat to start. From what I understand all spray painting requires a light first coat so it can dry and adhere to the surface better. But I guess they are parts that are not permanent on any car anyway. Nice cake stand and box idea too.
At least he spun it
Did he check that the BBQ paint would not soften with brake cleaner.
You couldn't find a more suitable place to do this than on your kitchen floor? Love the blue tile though..🙃
Why would you spray paint the part of your brake rotor where your wheels mount? You can't see it anyways lol
To prevent seeing rust.
I used a heat gun after spraying ... cooked it nicely
Fell asleep after 1minute 10 seconds
Good vid but wat everyone does that u should not to is paint the inside the back of the mating surface in case of uneven paint can do damage
Your wife must have been pissed to you used her cake decorating rotating stand without covering it to paint brake rotors. Great idea though. I like your procedure for doing this job.
Or he bought it on purpose
Yes
would it be a good idea to paint the inside of the cross drilled holes if you could?
Your first coat was way too heavy. Several light coats is better for long lasting adhesion.
And I have to agree 100%. with kalit001 and Jobedd Pagan - You don't need to mask off the braking area. When you buy ultra premium coated rotors, what do you think they are doing? The entire rotor come painted / coated
?
What is the reason to paint the back part😑
Corrosion and rust. He should've done it. It was already prepped. Also try to paint the ribs because those will corrode, rust and eventually deteriorate depending on conditions and where you live. I live at the beach so nothing last long.
no primer
Masking didn't leave a very smooth edge. But you don't need to mask it anyway
this is a HOW NOT TO video!
thank god for FF
never buy drilled rotors, slotted or plain yes .... drilled never. also break pads never ware the whole rotor surface so whatever you masked off will rust were you didnt paint , and the inside your drilled holes.. your better off painting the whole rotor, then let pads ware off the paint
For future endeavours: you don't have o mask the disks the pads will remove excess paint by friction after a few stops.
not before it ruins your brake padsXD
Clifton Wheeley why do I keep seeing comments of people saying its going to ruin the pads?! dude the pads are made to wear!!! When you buy coated rotors it's the same thing, they were painted before and you are just going to wear the paint with the pads... Pads wear due to the material they are made of, people stop misinforming people!
I’ve made the mistake. It contaminated the brake pads.
The brakes still work, but they’re a bit weak and don’t bite as well as they should. I’ll have to remove the pads and rotors again to decontaminate them.
Give the rotors a going over with sand paper and sand off the glaze on the pads to remove the paint contaminated layer.
Oil based paints is like leaving grease on the rotors…
Why would you want paint on them, you don't want oil on them And you have to wipe that off because they come oiled, so why put paint on them and shit up your pads
