cans Im loving the new STI, it was hard to chose a colour for the brakes but I feel like it was the right choice. They look so good. Thanks for watching new videos are coming soon.
This guy is seriously one of the best people in the business, i called to get a custom paint in cans a few years back which no other shop could do, not only did he get the exact colour but also sent me photos as he was mixing to make sure he was spot on. I wish you all the best in this build and will be following this the whole way though. Thanks again for your amazing work!
Not gonna lie when I read the title expected the usual bodge "painted on the car" type job. But just goes to show you put the time and effort into removing the brakes, prepping and masking correctly you can achieve good results even with a set of aerosol cans. Excellent job.
really don’t get why you aren’t 10x as popular, you put a ton of effort into these videos & you captivate the watcher the whole time
He odes
Congrats on the new car. Best looking STI made. Cant wait to see more videos on it.
Besides the painting things... What's wrong with your legs? Your feet are like 2 meters apart in every video
Dave, its nearly been a year since you posted this video. Can you give us an update on the disc paint? Cracking, embedded brake dust, rust? Thank you for your tutorial.
Agreed
Those rotors and calipers look amazing. I honestly didn’t think they would look that good!
I dont get it. Is he using all not temperature resistant products? Its gonna all last 2 weeks. They spray cans dont say anyting about heat resistanc and neither the paint for the rotors
It's the attention to the smallest details that have the greatest effect. Those calipers and rotors look superb! Good on ya mate! 👍
First thing pull the car into your garage and get it set up on the lift…..FUCK!
You should have left the mating surfaces clean. Now the paint wil wear on those surfaces that might loosen the wheel bolts/ nuts.
Sexy paint job man 👌👍🔥
Thank god finally someone who uses the stickers as a masking tape rather than leaving them on there to get burnt off.
Step 1: get a professional paint booth.
Wtf
You should have used a female mask and added the black pearl last as you have lots of hard edges to try and loose withe the clear coat
Or I could have done it that way.
Can you do a follow up video on this on how well your paint method has held up after a year or so?
Glad to find a video that is a proper job removing the calipers. I want to color match my calipers the Honda Milano Red. That red is available from DupliColor Perfect Match which is an acrylic lacquer. I was thinking I could possibly get that paint to hold up to the heat if I used specific for calipers primer and clear… but those are all enamels and was worried about putting acrylic lacquer on enamel. I might just be over thinking things… but this video made me feel I can just use an etching primer and 2K clear… so going to give it a shot. The car is just a weekend cruiser… not getting to extreme braking temperatures.
Wow looks gr8! How many cans u need for all cars rotor and calipers
1 of each can does 4 callipers.
One of the thing that just blew my mind away that tricky thing with the stickers... u just give me a lot of ideas my friend..... love your video....
FInally someone who uses the good shit instead of autozone specials. Thank you a ton for this!
No need high temp paint?
Amazing man will be doing my car aswel. It will be a slow restore but it will get there. Wish I had more room tho. Home restores are a pain lol
Looks awesome brother, little spell check error @ 3:24 mins with " 3 coats Silver BaseCOATS" not Baseoats! Keep the vids happening mate, I miss the tips and tricks!
That was a test. You passed. Haha.
Passed
@@buddahae86 you also passed the second tist
Clean work . fo sho
Looks great!
Can you do a quick (UA-cam shorts?) follow up video on how the painting has held up? I'm especially interested in the rotors.
Those calipers look beauoooootiful! Outstanding job. Now I'm off to tackle this all by myself. Wish me luck.
Nice choice of STi,Dave! Love the calipers too.Welcome back!
Look amazing dave! is there a lazy way to paint the calipers without removing them?
Yeah man I have a video of that.
Wow, love the color of the brake calipers. Great video! Thanks!!!
Curious, wouldn't leaving black paint on the disc slots eventually peel off from heat and adhere/contaminate the brake pads?
What are other brand colours cans I can use? Since you guys don’t ship to NZ? HELP????
Great video Dave, just remember to never paint on mounting surfaces. It's dangerous to paint any mounting surface for wheels or brakes etc as the parts can not be tensioned correctly. The paint will not give a perfectly flat surface and can cause the parts to lose tension as the paint wears from contact. If these surfaces are painted then you simply need to sand them back to bare metal. If you look at factory painted calipers and discs you'll find these mounting surfaces bare or possibly with a strong bonded coating eg on discs.
As a mechanic though, I love your customising videos.
Moog told me to watch this video on MCM so here I am. Great job.👍
Was really confused by paint over sticker. after finish, wow! This is how it’s done properly.
👌👌👌
kinda cool.... ! not sure why you would replace stuff after you painted it ? seems back wards ?
Beautiful. Wish they made a true fluorescent yellow /green. Can find powder but none in a spray can.
One of the best DIY caliper paint videos I've seen, mate. Awesome!
I’ve just used VG paints to paint up my brake calipers on my Mazda RX-7.
The Brembo red is fantastic and it’s completely transformed the brakes.
First time painting with 2k clear and I love the shiny result.
Will be purchasing more stuff from these guys in the future.
Might even give that colour shift stuff a go on some radio control gliders that need refinishing 👍
Thanks for making this stuff available in Australia.
You can now buy Car-Rep 2K clear in Australia. It has unlimited shelf life and activates as it leaves the nozzle and not in the can.
Nice car and nice job man. Didn't even like the color choice at first and then when I saw them on the car, I was like .... I need this in my life!
Very professional work, thanks for the video.
Do you have any link to the spray cans the link in the bio won’t work anymore
Thanks for the video Dave. It's been too long since your last video.
Nice job. Did you flush the brake fluid out completely?
Missed you, please do leather seat painting again, maybe there’s a newer method or something
Awesome video and new car. My favourite model of sti too! ❤️
I would need to borrow a second car for three weeks whilst I did all that...
Nice job!!!
Question: is the Miracle Paint similar to POR-15?
Yes pretty much the same
10:24 Why The First Pictures Qualitty is Bad?
Looks great sir 👍👍👍
Paint looks awesome, stickers ruined it
Awesome work ✨👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Nice car new project can't wait to see more you did a great job on the calipers and disc thank you for the video
Nice job. But for the love of God ditch the music 😂
Great job, and lovely colors. Keep it up!
What os the name of the final colour? Thanks👌
I didnt know you could paint rotors wtf
Wowowiwa
Cant wait for more videos on this car
sprayed mine gold last year, sanded, primered, spray painted and 2K lacquer. Wish my video got this maney views :(
first thing. buy a car lift.zzzzzzzzz
Do yuo remeber how lon time it took to paint them?
Thank you ! I learned more from your video than i have searching all over the web on painting my brembos. Like what clear coat and primer to use for adhesion and durability.
Etch primer sounds very promising and 2k clear sounds just like what i need for high use high temp resistant with solvent protection.
Would you know if 2k holds up against brake fluid ? I dont plan on being haphazard when bleeding my brakes, but I've heard that if so much as a drop gets on a painted caliper, it would eat through its paint immediately like acid.
I think im just going to go with the kit on the linked site in your description. To take out all the hunting and guesswork.
Hey thanks. The 2k is very good at defending against brake fluid. If left sitting on there it may tarnish if it's thin layers of clear.
That’s a golden chicken y’all lol
Great video on painting, just one important thing to note as a mechanic to never paint mating surfaces like on the face of the brake disc or surface for caliper bolts. The paint will collapse over time and cause the part to become loose (wheel or brake caliper). Actually very important, however many repair shops still paint them, we just have to buff it off.
Awesome color!! Great video. Does the one kit cover both the front and rear callipers?
Sure does and more mate 👍👍
Oh... i was like wouldn't the brake discs just rub off all the paint? Then was like Oh... duh.
You should of showed how to bleed the calipers so that juice doesn't get on all your beautiful work! I use clear tubing to bleed them and keep the juice off anything i don't want destroyed. Just a thought.
Good job, although personally I've never seen the purpose of painting my Brembo brakes. The Brembo brake pads already put a thick coating of black carbon all over my callipers, rims, tires, quarter panels, etc, etc. 🤨
At least is can now be cleaned with a mild car wash soap. Your caliper will be smooth af and easily cleaned,
/ serviced
@@amthevision8931 Valid point, and it does look good.
@@tim0e yes most definitely! Cool points from the car community for all the efforts as well. I did big brakes on infiniti q50s in bright yellow with Akebono stickers, took days! Turned out next to perfect. Customer was jumping
How do they look today, a year later?
payed less my new 380mm zimmerman rotors than this spray can kit but beside that good job, just way owerpriced
Great work, I like the way you use the stickers. On a side note; please fix that flickering bulb-it's giving me a seizure. j/k 😜
Come on UA-cam your fuckin up.. I'mma need UA-cam to do better. How come I am just now seeing these videos 🤦
You sir are a pro and a joy to watch!
Thanks, appreciate it.
Great to have you back Dave!!
How about showing or explaining how the black brembo decals magically appeared at the end after they were painted over in orange in the scene before. Jack ass
Hey bro you must know alot about rotors so here's my question lol what cause grooves on the rotors and a lil bit of shaking while braking I have the r1 concepts with the ceramic pads ...
1:30. Wow.wow.wow. pump the brakes....no pun intended. You need to cover grain of paper and how many different one you used.🤔
I have the power. Became the 1000th person to like this video haha. Great job on the caliper respray too. Silly question btw, why didn't you use a paint stripper?
Yeah the skids. Just like the original Custom Spray Mods videos. Brakes look awesome.
Keep up the vids bro 👌💯
Thank you very much for your video sharing, which allowed us to get to know and learn more!
What is this color name ?
Damn they look killer!🤜🏻🤛🏻 another way to paint the slots. You can grab a touch up paint pen and clear coat pen ( sold in pairs most times ) and just draw a line in the slot with the pen then go over it with the clear pen when dried. But still leave you with the hubs face n outer vents to deal with.🤷🏼♂️ either way killer job man 👌🏻👏🏻
So I want to paint my calipers a certain color and they don’t offer it as a high heat paint. So my question is can I use a high heat primer and clear but use a regular dupli color spray.
Great video, amazing results. Can we get this paint in the USA? If not, what would you use instead?
Looks great! I have the same DBA rotors too! But I was wondering, are the rotors/disc brakes the same dimensions for the 2004 WRX to the STI? I'm asking because i think one caliper is seizing and trashed that one rotor. I went ahead and ordered some gold Brembos brake kit and comes with regular slotted rotors. I want to maybe replace it with DBA ones again if the dimensions are the same
Looks great sir 👍👍👍
Awesome paint job on brakes and rotors!!!!
Does this last longer than powdercoating.
Coz honestly the calipers can get really hot and start to chip off!!
lol, paint wont chip if you hit it with hammer. just wait month or two, rust will do the trick
Damn good work 👍
Just amazed! :D
Man O Man" those Calipers look fantastic, in that tangerine candy 💥 Gheeesh🤗
So no curing the paint and prepping it for the clear?
No need. Chemical adhesion is recommended for base and clear coat. So within 20min is best to just coat base with clear.
@@customspraymods I do that with etch primer and the base coat, I've refurbished a few sets of motorbike calipers now. I never used a clear on them and they hold up well over years of use, I only decided not to do a clear because prep would be a pain. I also thought the clear would react or the base coat curing underneath would cauae problems.
Looks amazing!
it is a beautiful car
Does anyone know a company similar to this in the UK? Full spray kits with an array of colors to choose from?
