(everyone should already have a basic drill... seriously!) and you’re larger areas will be done in no time! Those tight corners will need some TLC but that should save you a great deal of time working those larger areas.

    Great tips, thanks Chris. I recommend acetone as a wash myself. And as these calipers get real hot,, you want to use always, a high heat paint as Chris does here. And if you want it to shine and last longer...Use a high heat Clear Coat. Or else it will not hold up over time. Unless you believe that a long time is one year. Rattle can paints = Some are okay. Some are not so okay to use in this application. Great video instructional. I paint my chevy car calipers Fire Engine RED, and put logos on them, then clear coat over the logo. Looks PRO>

      Valkarez just get enamel paint in a can and brush it on. cheap and it last longer than the spray can. also silver makes calipers look factory new.

    Chris has always the best way to something! He removed the caliper without disconnecting it. Smart as hell!! Thanks man! I wanna powder coat my calipers but i will need to rebuild all the calipers afterwards. Powder coating uses high temp oven and all rubbers need to be removed from the calipers before they go in the oven 😭
    I guess i have to do it your way 😉

    Tip if you're taking them off entirely like I did (to sandblast them and get old chipped paint off): use polymorph to fill in all the threads and holes you want to mask. It's a kind of plastic that melts clear in boiling water, can be molded and squeezed into place then cools and hardens white. Squeeze some into threads, and pinch a tag at the top so you've got something to grab later. Now your sandblaster won't damage anything!

    What do you feel is the benefit of 600 grit on rusted metal? I would recommend beginning 40 or 80 and ending with 100 or 120 for what you’re doing. 600 is a final primer sand before paint, all you did was wear out the 600 on that rusted calliper.

    • @KF1
      @KF1 2 роки тому

      600 will still have a small effect. Check out the texture carefully in the before/after. It turned out really well.

    Great DIY, but I’d recommend one more step below. I used this to re-do calipers on an old but great condition car of mine. I had removed them to rebuild since the parts are closing in on 40 years.
    That Rust Oleum high temp paint is a great choice, especially because of the matte color.
    What I did after cleaning and scrubbing was to use ospho. This product (you can link from amazon if you wish) converts surface rust and better prepares for paint adhesion. The end result is a better bond and longer, better rust resistance in the long run.
    Great video!!

      Correct , Thats the best way . I worked for Plymouth for over 35 years , I started off at the Old North Assembly and I’m partial to factory applied finishes , I’m not saying that you can’t do a good job in a shop and you certainly can monitor your own quality control . But you can’t compare to the resources we had in the Assembly and the conditions we paint under .

    Most painters recommend nothing more fine that 320 grit for sanding. The paint adheres much better. So a single sand step with 320 would save a lot of time.

    • @MrBudderTacoMBT
      @MrBudderTacoMBT 3 роки тому

      He used really high finishing sand paper. I'm not sure even 320 would be good for such a rust-heavy job. I would start between 80-100 and finish 200-240. Maybe a fast 320 if I was really concerned about looks.
