I have the same DMM for my iPhone & was thinking about doing this exact set up for a future mobile unit. The only thing is, I’ve never done any wiring (especially through a firewall) so that has me a bit nervous. Great set up though - hope to have something like it soon in my 2020 TRD OR!

Open the hood and take a look at the driver's side firewall. There is a black grommet that's pretty easy to access. I used a utility knife and made a small slit in the grommet and then ran the wires through the firewall to the battery. Be very careful doing this as there are a lot of wires running through that same grommet so if you slip on the utility knife you could have some issues. There may be other grommets on the firewall that are less risky so look around.
In my experience with wiring up radios, you want to go directly to the battery for the positive and the ground. You also don't want to snake the wires around a bunch of electronics and stuff in the engine bay as it can and will introduce noise. One thing to notice that if you decide to install the radio in the back like I did, you will need to extend the power and ground wires as they will not be long enough. I gave this set up quite a bit of thought and I'm really happy with it many months later. Best of luck with your setup!

nice review...question...so I already have a power cable ran in my truck from the battery, looks like the same connection at the back of the radio. Are they pretty standard? should just plug into what I have now I assume? Thanks!!
