@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 ok, cool. i thought they updated the TB just a couple years back. at any rate, i just put the light/fast 2.4 on my rear, and a vigilante 2.5 up front. not sure on the vigi, it's ok on the kitty litter (dg) out here in the desert but i think the verdict is a better choice for this sandy nonsense i ride in..
Good question... While I love the WTB trail boss, I love WTB tires in general but, they don't last that long. I went through them really fast. The Maxxis tires last longer. I went to a Maxxis 2.4 Dissector EXO and it rolls well and lasts longer than the trail boss, but I thought the trail boss grips better on the climbs. Thanks for watching.
Pretty wild, I had just been using this combination as of late. Love the Assegai and loved the Trail Boss, BUT...the WTB tough/fast rolling with TriTec wore out WAY too quickly on my rocky trails. 6 rides in and they're undercut a bit and the center knobs are more than half gone/chewed up. If it were of a similar compound as the 2C Aggressor, I'd be more than happy to purchase them again.
I agree with you, I have about 40 miles on mine right now and it is getting worn out pretty quick. I wasn't sure how long it would last but this is the quickest I have ever gone through a tire! I'm considering the Maxxis Dissector for the rear tire.
@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 yeah, agreed. I wonder about the Dissector too. They describe it being especially for dry/loose over hardback, fast park type stuff. Not sure how it'd be on 90% of the trails in my town. Only one way to find out!
Hi, I'm having a big struggle putting a 29" Trailboss 2.4 on an Ibis 938 alloy wheel. I'm wondering if you have any tips for installing? It's about 98% on. I'm also wondering if there is a compatibility is a compatibility issue. I already contacted WTB for support. Maybe you will respond sooner then them!..LOL. Thanks!
Hmm, the only thing I can think of is the you have the wide rims. But if you are at 98% there, try doing this. Get little bowl and add some soapy water, put it all around the tire bead and it should slide right on. Make sure its really soapy, you can use dish soap or even soap to wash clothes. Once its on pump it up to seat the tire. If you want it easier, use orange seal or stans with the tube straw that goes over the valve. This way you don't have to break the bead to add your sealant. Hope this helps.
Great set up and I loved both of them. However, I had to drop the Trail Boss. As much as I like it, the tire just doesn't last very long, it wore away quickly in less than one season. Replaced it with a Dissector 2.4 rear.
Yeah, I have about 4 rides in and its getting torn up quick. I'm pretty disappointed in the durability of it for the weight of it. Great performance but durability is not good at all. The answer is to go up to the next casing but this adds much more weight. My thought is to try out the Maxxis Dissector now.
Yeah the Dissector seems to be kinda a halfway tire between the Aggressor and the DHR2 or Assegai, though I've heard the Assegai rolls faster than the DHR2.
@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 i decided to go with the Specialized Eliminator 29x2.4 Grid casing since it's only 930 grams and it's supposed to be great for dry terrain(guys in South Africa swear by it). I feel like people that ride rougher trails would do well with WTB since they are a little heavier and tougher. I ride mostly blue trails since I'm a new rider so I'm not worried about the Grid casing being too thin.
DHF/Aggressor is the de facto colorado combo, though Assegai/Aggressor is quickly getting popular (helped in part by it being the stock tires on Yetis)
do this one again, it appears that the trail boss has been updated, much better tread (outside lugs) recently.
This is the updated version. It does have the wider tread. I actually like the trail boss over the dissector and the aggressor.

Hello, Sir. All the way from the Philippines.. shoutouts!!!
Yeah man! Thanks for checking in, love the Philippines. Spent some time in Taguig and the culture was a blessing to be a part of.
I'm using CST BFT front 27.5x2.4 and Maxxis Shorty Rare 27.5x2.3. I think they booth good in the trails.
Thanks for watching, appreciate you!
I run on the Somyungai tires.
Nice video, any updates on if you are running the same setup or did you try something else?

Did this setup hold up well ? And what pressures were you running...

I had not even 100 miles and my trail boss was shot. Assegai definitely front and maybe a high roller 2. Or dhr 2 rear

is that trail boss fitted with the slash guard? they aren't supposed to be that heavy for the regular light/fast rolling 29x2.4
Yes, it has slash guard. The scale never lies, its a little heavy.

@@Jon-nz3dm Let me know how you like that set up, sounds interesting for sure.
I run a maxxis Drh front and a maxxis aggressor rear.
That's the "old faithful" set up there, you can always count on that set up.
Travel the Narrow Trail until it doesn’t 😜

This is what I'm leaning towards as well. Although I'm just running a 26.
