Thanks for sharing your favourite combos! I like your idea of aggressor in the back, I will follow your suggestion (to replace my dissector in the back)
@DUSTIN B. JOHNSON 2.4 drifts to much 2.6 is the only dissector that counts on a enduro dh I run dissectors front and rear but they only go to 2.4 2.6 on that tire is so much better ! Sucks they only make exo in 2.6
@@dman5703 2.6 is too weak for me in the side wall and the rubber compound in a maxxterra is actually a touch harder then a 2.4 maxxterra. 2.6 is too slow for me personally
@DUSTIN B. JOHNSON I ran it all summer did a few videos you will see on my channel and didn't lose any air no flats! I'm a believer I did jaged rock rolls and endruo races on it all in how you ride I use stans race sealant as well. I found out riding enduro and a trails dd or dh casing is to much way to stiff and the added weight make the bike feel old and dated
I recently threw a DHRII on the front and an Rekon Race (2.25) on the back of my Trek Superfly 9.7 and it is genuinely my favorite combo ever. Perfect balance of agro and speed
I know this video is 2yr old lol. But it was great in helping me decide on my next tire combo. It’s November 2023 and there are some screaming deals on Maxxis tires. Ended up going with a 2.3 Aggressor EXO dual compound for the rear and 2.4 Dissector EXO MaxxTerra for the front and together it only cost $67 combined! I’m gonna wait until the spring to throw them on my wheels and I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs!
I love the Aggressor and Rekon. Haven't tried the Assegai or Dissector, as I do more XC and not super technical trail. I just changed the DHF/Aggressor on my 100mm bike to Rekon and Rekon Race. If I ever build a more capable longer travel bike I will definitely look at the Dissector. I think Dissector/Aggressor could be sick! Great vid. Cheers!
I just bought an Aggressor. I have a pair of DHR II in 2C compound and a DHF in 3C Max Terra and they’re all great. I want to try the DHR II in 3C Maxx Terra next.
Love your jacket dude, we get all the second rate Spyder gear in Australia 🥲 Cheers for the review, I’m all in for Maxxis. Ikon on the rear, Ardent on the front… Happy New Year 🍻
Love the Assegai/Aggressor combo! On my enduro hardtail, wich I use for the home trails, it's the Assegai Exo+ Max Terra front and the Aggressor DD back. Both in 2,5 inches. It rolls fast, you avoid any heart attack going uphill and it's super rewarding on the downhill. I even went to a pump track today and was suprised how good the speed and grip was there.
Thank you for sharing. After all these years I understand the setup I have been rolling with has always been faulty......I have had the same tyres for both front and rear. I will change from now onwards.
like ASSEGAI, BEFORE i have rear DHF 2.3 and Front ASSEGAI 2.5. NOW rear DHR 2, 2.3 and Front ASSEGAI 2.5, Its dam combo good.......nice video dude.. thanks, I watch many times.....
I appreciate your reviews. I have a 2018 Trance Advanced with stock high roller 2's. Going to a Dissector front/ Aggressor rear shortly. Also have a Trance X pro 1 2021 29er. I immediately took off the front 2.5 DHF and went to a Dissector 2.4 and it made a HUGE difference in the rolling speed. Thanks for the work you put into your research.
Lovely to hear you're so pleased with maxxterra 👏🙏. My new canyon Torque comes with Assegai & hhr2 maxxterra. After running Michelin dh22 on my e-bike I'm a bit spoiled with amazing grip. I think they're a bit though to pedal around 🤭
Hahah thanks dude! If you watch them all you’ll probably be even more confused then before started. So I apologize in advance! 🤣 lots of opinions going back and forth. Truth is all these maxxis tires are killer!
@@dustinbjohnsonI pulled the trigger on tha Assegai and Aggressor combo. Im stoked to try them out. Thanks again and I am enjoying your content. Keep up the good work.
I've had the 2.3 and 2.5 Aggressor on my 30mm Hunt Widetrail rims and I've gotta say, the 2.5 is wayyy better. The extra volume means you can run a little softer and soak up those small bumps so it's actually a bit quicker. In UK riding conditions the more spaced out knobs of the 2.5 also means it's much better in the wet and you can run it beyond the 2 weeks of sort of dry conditions we get, braking is also improved. I've been running Assegai front and rear Grip F / Terra R for the last few weeks and I've decided, in slop, they simply don't clear mud as well as the DHF and can be ( as a result? ) a bit vague in directional stability. In summer this may not be an issue and they will be better. I'll try them again then. Last ride I put the DHF Terra back up front and enjoyed the feeling of bite, it's not as consistent as the Ass from side to side but it feels more committed when it's there, more of a "Yep! Yep! Yep!" rather than "Okayyyy" Worth noting that the mud was shallow and that tacky foot slipping stuff in places after a couple of dry days and in those places the DHF was a non issue but the Ass Terra out back was a little undecided as to what was happening, it never let go but it wasn't always interested in following the rest of the bike in a new direction either. As we're in lockdown and my Patella tendon is a bit buggered again anyway limiting the rides, I've put the Aggressor on the rear for less drag and pedal effort which actually puts me back to fave summer combo. Pressure with tubes is 22F 25R, Summer would be 23F 27R
Thanks for the great input and information! I love hearing other peoples experiences and opinions on tires. I've been really happy with the 2.3 aggressor but we are extremely dry here and I always tend to lean towards lighter faster tires especially out back. But I may have to give the 2.5 a try. I only have less then a hand full of ride in wet/mud. Pretty much un rideable here in idaho when the trails are wet so I only run tires for dry. But I totally agree with you on the DHF bite vs the more seemless transition of the assegai. Both are great!
Yep in the real dry, esp hardpack surfaces the 2.3 may work better, don't need the bite and spacing of the slightly larger knobs and the extra volume won't be much of an advantage. Have you tried a Minion SS?
This is super informative... thank you! I just bought the assegais with DH casing. I’m a poor climber but I want to challenge myself on climbs by putting the 2.5 Assegai up front and possibly a high roller 2, DHR II, or Dissector in the back... and then reward myself on the decent.😎
If you really want a challenge, do Assegai front and back, it will really be sticky to climb with, almost like going through mud lol. It will be super stable on the descents after.
Think it would be great if you add in the info for the terrain you encounter in your riding ;- ) to help us decide if the same combo would be good for our areas. Thanks for the videos.
Hey Dustin, I love the geeking out on tires. I'm definitely in that same mindset right now. Keep up the videos. I'm riding here in SoCal, so probably pretty similar dry conditions to you in Boise. I have an Ibis Ripley LS (V3) with 120 rear/140 front. The stock Schwalbe Nobby Nics 2.6 were garbage and once I swapped them out the bike came alive. I went with the Aggressor 2.5 rear/Assegai 2.5 front and I loved the grip and cornering on rails, but they feel so slow to me, my uphill times are much slower, but my downhill times have improved. I then tried Rekon 2.6 front/rear, so fast, both uphill and downhill improved. My biggest issue was lack of grip front and rear. I then went with the Rekon 2.6 rear/Minion DHR2 2.6 front (Worldwide Cycles review), but the lack of grip in the rear was disappointing. I'm now running my Aggressor 2.5 rear/Minion DHR2 2.6 front and I'm pretty happy but the bike still feel heavy and not as playful as it did with the lighter Rekons. I'm Thinking about the Aggressor 2.3 rear/Dissector 2.4 front or Dissector 2.4 rear/front. Are there any weight savings or grip improvements that you have experienced with a dual Dissector setup? I know it's not your favorite rear tire.
hey Nick! Yah man i'm warming up to the dissector as a rear tire and think that would be a sick setup. not sure if i like it more then diss2.4/agg2.3 setup but its close! theres just something about the 2.3 agg out back that i love and you will save a couple grams but nothing major. coin flip on that one
Awesome 🤩 Good work! #1 is what I’ve just put on my enduro ride and had a couple of amazing rides down my local DH lines. The Aggressor is quite worn now so to pair with the new Assegai I supposeI should put in for a new one seeing as it’s still wet roots and mud around here. 🤜
Great advise here, I did probably weeks of research and kind of ended up with dissector/rekon for me. We don't have huge mountains where you can get over 30mph anyway, so I think you put it very accurately these tires.
Dissector is run rear because they want fast yet grippy with a more aggressive front you don't have an Enduro/DH bike behind you. An Assegai F and and a Dissector rear is an awesome Enduro/DH combo.
@@dustinbjohnson Not yet been thinking about it looking for a pair of trail tires to replace my substandard OEM Vee Crown Gems in 2.3 size but tyring to wear them down rather than just toss them and my give them a try.
Had my first ride on my dissector, aggressor combo today and loved it!fast plenty of grip for the trails I ride and the road climb up felt much more efficient than than the minions thanks
Great review for sure I’m running schwable in the uk as we have loads of wet sticky mud at the minute it I’m looking at changing tyres.... your combo would be idle for me Keep up the great work
Ran that Di/Ag all season this year. Only gripe is the Aggressor wore down way faster than expected - however would totally agree it is the best of all worlds - loose over hard and techy rock no equal
Love this video and subscribed yesterday 👍 Love tyres too but funny how different people and locations can help dictate what you like. I love Schwalbe. Magic Mary front and Nobby Nic rear. I live in Bristol in the UK and it’s constantly wet and muddy here and these tyres grip in the mud like crazy and I can still knock out a 100k without dying. I also run Michelin wild enduro up front and rock r rear. These too have amazing grip, possibly a bit more draggy. Oddly Maxxis, although, fantastic tyres just don’t grip as well in the wet clay and limestone we have here 🤷♂️. Awesome review though and love your channel 👍
Thanks dude! I really appreciate that 🙏 id love to ride up there one day!! I like schwalbe but I just dont like how heavy all their new super tires are. I think they have great compounds and tread patterns but bummed they don't make them in the lighter super ground casing. Have you tried running maxxis maxxgrip compound tires out there? I hear it works alot better in wet ? But I've never experienced it myself... Cheers 🍻 welcome to the channel!!
@@dustinbjohnson my best mate works for Schwalbe so I’ll pass on your comments 👍. Hope you make it over here one day, happy to show you around and see what you think of the riding here 👍. Oooh not friend the Maxxis maxgrip but will try. All the best and have a good Christmas
Thanks for the video! I just picked up a 2019 Following MB and put the Dissector 2.6 upfront and the Rekon 2.4 in the rear. I’m out of shape and need fast rollers.
My bike came with Rekon+ f/r, they've been great for my type of riding, but the rear outer knobs are wearing pretty quick. I am seriously thinking of running Rekon+ up front and the Dissector rear because of another review talked about how good the Dissector works in muddier conditions.
Dissector is exceptional in dry and light muddy conditions. However personally, I have alot of time on rekon+ and I would not run that up front with a Dissector rear. If you like bigger volume tires. Try Dissector 2.6 front and rekon 2.6 rear. Much better combo. Faster and tons of traction without having the downfall of plus tires.
@@johnnydoe66 I used to run those rekon 2.8s on a previous bike for a couple seasons. Definitely helps build confidence, but I noticed they make the bike feel really dead. Once I went back to standard tires it's awesome how much the bike comes alive! 2.6 is a nice balance if you still prefer larger volume
Great review I got my Vittoria Morsa/Agarro combo in the mail, havent mounted them yet but it looks like a nice combo. The Agarro looks like it’l be a nice front, beefy and it’s got ramped lugs.
Just installing combo #2. Let's see how it rolls after twin rekon setup.. There's few DH sessions coming, so need to have bit more grip.. until those I'll left rekon on back for local trails :p
That combo is on my radar,,, running 2.4 DHR II/ DHF 2.5 now, however I put 2.1 specialized ground control on my hardtail and that shit rocks, so maybe butcher 2.35/ground control2.2 is gonna be my next choice
Maxxis claims 30mm rim for 2.3 to 2.5 and 35mm rim for the 2.6 tires. The 2.3 might be a bit square on a 35mm rim. I'm not a fan of 2.6 tires. Maybe look into a 2.5 setup . Assegai/aggressor 2.5s
The aggressor you say is dc, what is dc. In Australia all I can find in the aggressor exotic 60 thing tr folding or the 120 thing cheers Anthony very informative by the way. I ride a epic evo currently with xc race tyres but turning it into abit more trail friendly with beefier tyres
DC stands for “dual compound” harder and faster rolling then their 3C Maxxterra compound. The aggressor only comes in DC which makes it a killer rear tire. I’d never run it up front though
Personally I tend to prefer fast tires out back. My trails don’t really warrant such an aggressive rear tire. But definitely a great combo for the right application
my dissector 29x2.6 exo maxterra came in at 1040... my 2.5 dhf was 1070 with tons of dried up sealant... I feel like the dissector rolls faster but not that much more than a dhf. aggressor is my favorite rear tire but I actually really liked the e13 SS
Good stuff man! I'm sucker for changing tires throughout the season to get the best traction and less rolling resistance. I'm currently running the Assegai 2.5 F and Aggressor 2.5 R. Just ordered the Dissector and unsure whether to put it on the front or rear. I live in Socal the conditions are always!
Thanks man!! Yah I have a sickness ... I love swapping tires 😂 personally I think the dissector is a killer front tire. If you get a chance try it was the 2.3 aggressor out back. It rips in dry conditions! 🚀
I love minion dhf front and minion dhr2 rear or assegai front and minion dhr2 rear. Don t you like minion dhr2? In the best rear tire for enduro/downhill, no competition with the others
I have tried the schwalbe rock razor. Great spring tire. Definitely fast! But only gripe was in the dead of summer it had really poor climbing traction. I would constantly spin out. It gets super dry, loose and sandy out here. That's why I like the aggressor a bit more
@@dustinbjohnson Yeah I can see that, I live in florida so it's either sandy or rooty and when the roots get wet traction can sometime be an issue, I run a Dissector on the front and a Minion SS or the rear, I love how fast it rolls on the pedal bits and then hooks up when you lean it in to the flat corners we have a lot of here. If I go up to Pisgah I swap out the SS for a DHR EXO+.
@@dustinbjohnson Thanks for the answer. I wanted something more downcountry/light trail for my giant trance 3. I would like to know if a 2.4 wide trail tire can be put on a 25mm rim, as I was thinking of putting a rekon tire on the back for better rolling. what would be your combo in this lighter version? thanks again for the help.
In the 27,5 world I started to use dhr2 on the rear and looking for good front companion, seems to be that hard to find maxxis, to be not to heavy, all assegais are over 1k grams, couple of others too wide or too heavy (rekon, aggressor, forecaster), seems to be that I will come back to Nobby Nic but the new model I did not use so far, superground speedgrip with 2.4 and 812 grams
@@dustinbjohnson catalogue says 812g 🤔 all assegais 1000+g 🤔 I'd love to have light, rolling fast, grippy, max. 2.4 width for 27.5 wheel size .... Mission impossible ? 😉😄
@@dustinbjohnson mentally not ready for that 😉, there's such mind set that dhr to the rear only but you are right there are as well votes to use dhr2 at the front, what then in the back dhr2 as well or dissector, rekon, aggressor ... Worth to consider, thanks for suggestion
I've been running the DHR2 front and rekon rear lately. Loving it. Bit more grip then dissector/rekon. As soon as it gets loose and dry I'm going to DHR2/aggressor and ill report back. Looks like a combo I'd like
I was dhr f/r, went aggressor/dhr (front). As expected, faster overall riding but lose bit of grip/breaking on the dh's, but overall solid. I now want to try Dissector up front now for more speed/less rolling resistance on the smoother trails, maybe even something faster like...?? Then have set up for dh/aggressive rides, all MTN and light trail riding
Im new on the MTB scene, whats the difference in this tire no.s 29x2.0 29x2.3 29x2.4 700x50c 700x52c, 50-622, 52-622 what do they all mean? its all so confusing.
@@dustinbjohnson Thanks, Is the vitoria barro race 29x2.0 a good tire, my bike came with kenda tires and the rear tire is worn out so needs replacement.
@@dustinbjohnson Not very technical mostly alot of loose gravel and in some cases compact gravel, also terrain that leads into forests abit damp with some rocky sections
Totally agree on the schwalbe tires. Wish they weighed what they did a few years ago, I would still be running them. Just bought a NN and a Hans a few weeks ago and sent them back after they were each over 100 grams heavier than advertised. 👎
Dude I went through like 3 sets of schwalbes and every single one was over 100 grams of their already high claimed weight. Such a bummer cause the new addix compound is actually really good.
You ever tried DHR II in the rear and Assegai up front? Been doing research on my next set up. I’m going from WTB’s Vigilante (front) and Trail Boss (rear) on an enduro but find them punishing up hill and anything but downhill. Insane grip, but very slow set up. Figured Assegai is a good replacement for Vigilante but don’t wanna loss that Trail Boss, last moment braking power. Thoughts? I also ride in the Appalachian mountains so it’s rocky, easy to rip tires especially with my aggressive riding style.
I have rode that exact combo. Love it! I think for heavy enduro use that is the money setup. Braking is superior. And endless traction. Bit on the slow rolling side if you do alot of climbing, but when pointed down I don't think you find anything better. Definitely check out a maxxgrip compound for the assegai and maxxterra for the dhr2
The assegai Aggressor combo, i ride in the midwest, would you reccomend the DHF instead of the assegai for the easier pedaling which i have to do a lot of or is the assegai not bad to pedal?
You mention that you didn't like the Dissector until you ran the right pressure. I just started using a 2.4 Dissector upfront with a 2.4 Rekon in the back on my downcountry bike that I ride on dry hard over loose. I feel like the Dissector is a little quick to wash out on corners. What pressure did you find works best?
Yah man it's super pressure sensitive. I'm 150lbs and I had to drop down to 22.5 psi to really feel confident. Might I suggest going up to the Minion DHR2 2.4. Slight weight and rolling penalty but hardly noticeable and a much more confident tire with tons more grip (I run that at 24psi)
Thanks! It's the All Mountain Frame Style. Here's a link www.jensonusa.com/All-Mountain-Style-Mud-Guard-11?pt_source=googleads&pt_medium=cpc&pt_campaign=shopping_us&pt_keyword=&gclid=CjwKCAiAr6-ABhAfEiwADO4sfZfDf2O0qkDpWH9Jbbny4wvcDh_EPlYUwViwARClP0g3J_G6pj6jXBoC-hwQAvD_BwE
Hi! I currently run a 2.4 width DHR 2 in the rear, and a 2.3 maxxis shorty in front. Should I switch them? Because they keep telling me you should run a wider tire up front for enduro. Also the dhr2 is a bit heavier than the shorty
Yah man I would personally never run a narrower front tire. Either same width front and rear or wider up front. And the shorty is a mud specific tire. What are your your trail conditions?
@@thomasreid9540 oh yah man shorty is not the tire you should be running bro. Try something like assegai 2.5 or DHF 2.5 front. And aggressor 2.3 rear! That's the money setup 👌
Hi Dustin great review I recently got the Ibis Ripmo AF that has Assagai 2.5 front and back. Thinking of changing the rear to the Aggressor 2.3 out back. I have wide rims at 35 I believe. Will a 2.3 Aggressor still work or do you recommend something else in a 2.4? DHR2 2.4 or Dissector 2.4 rear if think need something wider for my wheels? It sounds like the 2.5 Aggressor has way bigger nobs than the 2.3 so rolling resistance is significantly better on the 2.3 although the weight is much of factor?
What’s the pressure that you found ideal? And your weight? Or what specifically did you look for for that preferred pressure. Think I’m moving from my dhf/disector to disector/aggressor.
I'm 145-150lbs. And I've settled around 25 front 27 rear on most tires. I try to go as High as a possibly can under the tire starts to feel slidey and where it gets borderline scary in corners then I drop one psi from there and that's usually where I stay
Don't forget to mention tire width and rim width. 2.5 tires on a 30mm rim at 22 PSI will feel a lot like 2.3 tires on a 25mm rim at 28 psi. PSI alone isn't enough info. Also, ride style and terrain is a factor. I do 22psi/F and 25psi/R at 175lbs, with a 2.5 front and a 2.4 rear on 30mm rims. My approach is the opposite, I go as low as I can go until it starts feeling vague, then add a PSI or two. Of course, my focus is downhill traction over large roots and rocks at speed. Pedal efficiency is secondary.
Thanks for the video! Right now I'm running DHF 29X2.6 front and rear during winter, however just like some other videos had mentioned. Don't feel super confident in my turns and berms at speed with the transition zone on that tire, feels like I'm gona wash out. Other than that, they're great for everything else. I already purchased an Assagai 2.5exo+ front and 2.5 Agressor DD for my rear for when April rolls around and more trails open up. How much of a difference do you think it makes running the 2.3 rear, vs the 2.5?
Some of that vague feeling could be the 2.6 tires also. I found 2.6 tires have a lot of tire roll under hard cornering. So I think you’ll like the 2.5 assegai much better! 2.6 tires usually have weaker sidewalls to keep weight down. As far as the aggressor goes, their is a big difference between the 2.3 and 2.5. Almost like 2 completely different tires. The 2.3 has much smaller knobs and feels more XCish. Much more zippy fast feeling. The 2.5 feels more enduro. Still rolls extremely well on steep fast downs. But climbing it feels more draggy then 2.3
@DUSTIN B. JOHNSON thank you!! I think rather than send the tire back, I'm going to try and run the 2.5s. If it's slowing me down too much on my climbs. I'll aim for the 2.3 rear. Prolly keep the DHFs around and beat them up during the winter months. If I had multiple bikes to try different combos I would, but I don't make a ton of $ and tires ain't cheap either! Lol. I did run 2.3 aggressor front and rear last year on my Polygon and it did fine, i liked them, but I upgraded to a Marin Alpine Trail 7 Enduro bike for more travel. We usually tend to ride about 8-12 miles max, most trails are about half up, half down.
@@dustinbjohnson Man. I slapped my 2.5 Exo+ Assagai and Agressor DD 2.5 on. Unfortunately it was on a boring flat river trail, because everything has snow on it but damn, felt like I had to pedal a LOT harder than the 2.6 DHFs which I took on that same trail couple weeks ago. Hoping it doesn't punish me too much when I hit some uphill this next week. If it does I may do 2.5 DHF and Agressor 2.3 rear for my next test or I ran Agressor front and rear all last year and never ate it, even at Anglefire bike park. We'll see I guess.
Nice video man!! wich is more importance for choose a tyre: wheight of the tyre or the knob design for rolling resistance? i'm stuck, because DHF for example is a super tyre, BUT the wheight is overkill with more than 1kg , but maybe is pedal friendly because the rolling resistance?
That is a fantastic question!! One I've been stuck on myself. In my experience is a combination of the two. Weight and tread pattern both play a factor. In my experience the Assegai though it's heavy feels like it Rolls faster then the DHF due to the tighter spacing of the knobs. You should really check out the Dissector. Probably my favorite tire out there. Super light weight fast rolling like the rekon. Yet grips like a minion
@@dustinbjohnson ty for the reply. I'll go to watch your review of dissector, in 2.4wt it weight 915gr (exo/3c/maxterra) and on the rear i will try 2.4 rekon. What do you think? Stumpjumper LT comp 2020 for an All Mountain use (natural gnarly descend and lot of pedal for uphill and flat road to gain the top). Sometimes i go on trail with jump and sponded curve, but i'm not too agressive.so i don't need TONS of grip but i prefer pedal friendly tyre and resistance for roky terrain (like puncture, side cut ecc..)
I know everyone concerned about weight including myself. But one thing that helped me is that I started doing deadlifts and squat it made my climbing easy.
@@eugenegutierrez5106 yah tires are getting too heavy these days. I understand why but soon you're going to have to ride an ebike just turn them over. 😂
Pedro great question. I have time on both 120 and 60 tpi exo tires. 120 is definitely nice and fast and very supple. But at the cost of durability. Most tires I ride now are 60tpi. I dont have any time on exo+ just because I keep weight at a minimum and I never tear sidewalls. I think I have maybe once in 8 years. But im headed to moab in a couple weeks and think I might run exo+ and ill update if I choose to. 🍻
@@dustinbjohnson ya I wanted a 2.4 assegai but all I could find was 2.5, so I'm going to try it out in the front and maybe get a new set a rims by the end. The plan was a dhf 2.4 out back
Been binging your tire videos! You answered a lot of my questions/concerns. I've been running Dissectors front and rear and felt they were a little slow and I know understand some of the drift in the front. So, should I go DHR2 up front and Aggressor out back? or Dissector/Aggressor? or DHR2/Dissector and Rekon? I ride New England rocky rooty and slick with loose leaves over semi-hard. I like a light fast set up but need something a little tougher for rubbing on rocks. Thanks man!
Heck ya! I've never rode in New England.. but I would definitely go DHR2 up front. Hands down. Now for the rear depends. Super dry conditions I'd go aggressor. If it's damp I'm go dissector, and more wet I'd go dhr2 front and rear. You can try a rekon and see how it does. That's the fastest option. But if it doesn't have enough tracking step up to dissector! And when it's dry go aggressor!
Dig the vid. Im on Assegai front and back. Too grippy for a rear when new imo but now that its worn down a bit its beauty! Thanks for the good ideas for my next pair👌
Bro dont clown me lol. I decided to go with assegai aggressor combo. Unfortunately my rims are only 20mm.. I think the 2.5WT is a bit much for it. I cant afford a new wheel set right now. Should i go down to 2.3 on the front? Thanks again.
Haha holy moly that’s narrow! I definitely would not put 2.5 tires on those babies. I’ll look at doing a 2.3 high roller 2 front and 2.3 aggressor rear. That would be a good combo for those rims
So I'm on a rekon right now. Slight drag on climbing with the aggressor. But not as much as a dhr2. But the aggressor carries really fast speed once it gets going. As much as a rekon I'd say. Rekon is just slightly more pedal friendly..
Thanks bro! Personally I think assegai out back is a bit too much. I actually really like the assegai/dhr2 combo. Might wanna look into that! Slightly more traction then assegai/aggressor. I dont think you really need more then a 2.4 tire out back. But just my opinion. I always lean towards speed over grip as a rear tire.
Here my 2c on Assegai on the back. I’m with Dustin. Assegai on the back is way too much grip. However I tried a crazy idea: i moved my worn Assegai I had on the front, to the back and installed a brand new Assegai in the front. It has worked really well in wet muddy conditions so far. Not my long term plan, but it does work.
Hey dude, my last tire combo was DHF front and Aggressor rear, and now that my DHF blew up after 4 months on trail, I'll try this new combo, assegai front and Aggressor rear, How's your riding experience on this combo? Or still DHF not the Assegai
I go back and forth between DHF and assegai alot!! Mind plays tricks on my when it comes to rolling resistance... its a toss up... but when it comes to grip.. assegai is much better!!! And with aggressor out back that combo shredds!!
@@dustinbjohnson okay, thank you bro, i've already installed my new tire assegai on my bike, but still have a problem, the compression of my fork is not responding at all, need to bring my fork to my mechanic, will update you bro about my experience on that tire combo. thanks a lot. RideSafe

It’s so good!! I run the 2.4 dissector thou. Not a big fan of 2.6
@@dman5703 hey if you like it I’m all for it! Personally I’d rather run a 2.5 assegai then anything 2.6. But that’s just me 🍻
I recently threw a DHRII on the front and an Rekon Race (2.25) on the back of my Trek Superfly 9.7 and it is genuinely my favorite combo ever. Perfect balance of agro and speed
That’s a killer combo for speed and traction !
I'm digging your videos and insight! Glad to see you are still posting. Please keep it up.
Thank you! Really appreciate that 🙏 🍻
I know this video is 2yr old lol.
Damn that’s a killer deal!
Thanks! 🍻 dissector / aggressor is such a fast fun combo!
nailed it !! Assegai / aggressor all the way. I have been running this on all my bikes for a while and recently added cush core
Yah that combo is straight fire 🔥
@@dustinbjohnson I do take out the cushcore on the rear when doing jump lines . I feel like the back get mushy or something.

Love your jacket dude, we get all the second rate Spyder gear in Australia 🥲 Cheers for the review, I’m all in for Maxxis. Ikon on the rear, Ardent on the front… Happy New Year 🍻
Thanks dude!! Spyder is the best!! Cheers man happy new year!!
Assegai/aggressor is such a badass combo!
Thank you for sharing.
After all these years I understand the setup I have been rolling with has always been faulty......I have had the same tyres for both front and rear.
I will change from now onwards.
Thanks John! Glad this video was helpful!

DHR2 2.3 is a killer rear tire! Light weight and lots of traction!
Thanks Bruce!! I love that dissector, everything i want in a tire!!

Yep! Yep!" rather than "Okayyyy"
Worth noting that the mud was shallow and that tacky foot slipping stuff in places after a couple of dry days and in those places the DHF was a non issue but the Ass Terra out back was a little undecided as to what was happening, it never let go but it wasn't always interested in following the rest of the bike in a new direction either.
Love the look of the frame behind you. Great video. I wanted your favorite combo, but they don't carry my size. Thanks for the review.
Great info. My DHF and DHR2 are near the end of their life. I’m going to give the Assegai/Aggressor a go.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's soooo good
Think it would be great if you add in the info for the terrain you encounter in your riding ;- ) to help us decide if the same combo would be good for our areas. Thanks for the videos.
Will do! I touch on in my latest video. But im also working on a whole maxxis tire guide review. I'll be sure to talk about that! 🍻
So what do you recommended for North Florida wet summers on technical rooty/rocky trails, hard packed, loose over hard?

Heck ya!!! Assegai/aggressor freaking rips!!!
I drive a combo Rekon 2.4 in the back and dhf 2.5 in the front. It's a good combo too. For skids and grip.
Great advise here, I did probably weeks of research and kind of ended up with dissector/rekon for me. We don't have huge mountains where you can get over 30mph anyway, so I think you put it very accurately these tires.
Yah man if I didn't have huge descents it would be rekon/rekon or dissector/rekon for sure!!
Dissector is run rear because they want fast yet grippy with a more aggressive front you don't have an Enduro/DH bike behind you. An Assegai F and and a Dissector rear is an awesome Enduro/DH combo.

Love tyres too but funny how different people and locations can help dictate what you like.
Try the 2.4 dissector up front! So much faster
@@dustinbjohnson I will look at that here in the future when it's time to replace. I am running 2.8's f/r

Maxxis claims 30mm rim for 2.3 to 2.5 and 35mm rim for the 2.6 tires. The 2.3 might be a bit square on a 35mm rim. I'm not a fan of 2.6 tires. Maybe look into a 2.5 setup . Assegai/aggressor 2.5s
Or you could run a 2.5 high roller 2 front / aggressor 2.5 rear. High roller is similar to dissector
how many psi air pressure for rear aggressor for rocky, dusty and dry trail...

@dustinbjohnson cheers mate going to the local to grab a couple of new shoes for the epic and I'm going to give your dissector aggressor combo a run
Why not Assegai in front and Minion DHR 2 on the rear?

I used to love the older xr4/xr3 combo back when I road trek bikes 4 years ago! I might have to try those
Have you ever tried a Minion SS love that tire on the rear XC fast but Minion grip when you lean it over.

If you do the assegai go Maxxterra much better Pedaling then maxxgripp
I'm using a Magic Mary 2.4, soft, super trail as a front tire. How does this compare to the Aggressor 2.5 ?
I've never tried the 2.5 aggressor. Never really needed anything bigger then a 2.3/2.4 out back. I like to keep things fast out back
You mention that you didn't like the Dissector until you ran the right pressure.

Have you tried dhr2 in the front and a dissector in the rear??
I have. I'm not a fan of the dissector as a rear tire. I much prefer the 2.3 aggressor
Yah 2.5 is too wide for rear tire in my opinion. 35mm is a bit wide for a 2.3 tire. I’d probably go 2.4 if my rims were that wide. Probably dissector
What pressures do u run aggressor/assegai with cushcores? Im 150 and seem to like it around 18-20
Yah that’s pretty low. On that setup I’m about 23/26
@@dustinbjohnson do you run it 23/26 in bike parks too?
@@Bowl.noodle might go up 1 or 2 psi depending
Haven’t tried asegai yet. I heard good reviews.
Assegai is the king of traction. Little heavy but traction comes at a cost. 👑
@@dukeofmtb great points and feedback! I'm working on a full maxxis review and I'll be sure to talk about that
What do you think about a Dissector in front and a Rekon Race on the back for a downcountry bike?
Is the Assegai lighter rolling than a DHF?
DHF is lighter and faster rolling then the assegai
Like the video I’ve tried schwalbe love the magic Mary but I’m looking for a faster tyre saved me buying lots of tyres
Glad I got help man!
Great video!
Cheers Evan! 🍻
How wide are those rims
30.5mm internal

Great vids! Interested to know your thoughts on TPI 60 vs 120 and EXO vs EXO+?
Pedro great question. I have time on both 120 and 60 tpi exo tires. 120 is definitely nice and fast and very supple. But at the cost of durability. Most tires I ride now are 60tpi. I dont have any time on exo+ just because I keep weight at a minimum and I never tear sidewalls. I think I have maybe once in 8 years. But im headed to moab in a couple weeks and think I might run exo+ and ill update if I choose to. 🍻
what size inner rim do you run for that 2.5 assegai?
30mm internal
@@dustinbjohnson do you think I could get away with a 2.5 if I had a 24mm internal?
@@zsanterre I personally wouldn't got above 2.3... maybe 2.4. But 2.5 is too big for that narrow of a rim in my opinion
@@zsanterre I'd look at a 2.4 dhr2 or dissector
@@dustinbjohnson what's faster a Rekon or Aggressor and which has more grip? I really want to try the Wick Wills, those look rad!
@@chfphoto rekon is faster. Aggressor has more grip.! Will looks like a great rear for a schwalbe setup!
@@dustinbjohnson lol thx man!

Im gonna try #1 combo!
Assegai/ aggressor is rips!! ✊
are assegai fast rolling ?
No. Rather slow. Traction is the name of the game
Appreciate info
Hows climbing with Aggressor rear? Slight drag?
*Compared to Rekon
So I'm on a rekon right now. Slight drag on climbing with the aggressor. But not as much as a dhr2. But the aggressor carries really fast speed once it gets going. As much as a rekon I'd say. Rekon is just slightly more pedal friendly..
Appreciate feedback. Gonna give your combo a go. Disector n Agressor🤙
@@agar223 let me know what you think! Such a fast fun combo
Sounds like the aggressor/asseggai is the way to go
Absolutely freaking shreds! Best combo ever
Som Utubers lov the Assagai and Tannus....I tried Schwabbe and didn't liek them, now trying WTB...but typ ride DHF and Aggressor rear.

Thoughts on Assegai out back? Was curious if that would be a good setup but possibly too heavy? Good vid bro
RideSafe
