You should start from low to high up, by that you condition your skin Retinol ( medium range retinol that works ) slowly by a period of 6 months to 1 year then switch to high concentration for next 1 year or granactive retinoids ( for a good result it's best stay with it until you think it's not working, may be years) then to prescription adapalene, trazarotene Or tretinoin ( smallest concentration). If you meet a derm mostly they will analysis the skin conditionns first treat you with benzoyk peroxide combined with salycilic acid, then gradually to peels then to adapalene, then to tretinoin. And this may take years for acne and acne marks. For skin ageing I don't know what's the procedure. But trust we this is what done by a good doctor to me. But he have put me on best cleanser and sunscreen and moisturizer during this whole shift of products that suited my skin conditions at that time( means my skin was oily, then become sensitive dry again oily sensitive dehydrated). The first doctor I had seen put me on tretinoin strait , can you believe that without even a moisturizer. That dump was my first derm.
I have used over the counter retinol products for years and have recently gone to Trentanoin 0.05 and have already seen a marked difference. I live in a very dry climate and have drier skin at age 70 so I put a little Squalane Oil on top at night. My skin looks and feels great. Thank you!
I am a male in my mid 30s. I have been religiously using Tretinoin 0.05% cream for the past 1 year or so, and it has made a substantial difference on my skin appearance. Along with this product, I also use cleanser, Vitamin C moisturizer, and sunscreen. People say that I look much younger for my age.
I have been using retin-A since the 1980s. I am 60 years old now and have the skin of someone in their 30s. Along with retin-A, I always wore hats and used sunscreen.
I’m 57 I have rosacea , very dry sensitive skin,I’ve tried many products , this is what works for me , nizoral psoriasis cream ,and I use Vani clear cleanser , Vani clear moisturizer for my face, it calms my skin , it’s good for inflammation and redness !!
you're saving us loads of $$$. I admit, I do love some luxury products because of the way they feel on the skin and the way they smell, but at least I'm wise enough now to understand their limitations and I'm finally using sunscreen. Better late than never.
Don't fall for feel and smell - those are typical characteristics which companies use to make you buy it when there isn't anything biologically worthwhile inside. Smell is a crucial one - ingredients just say 'fragrance'. But wth is that? What fragrance? There's no transparency at all.
To each their own. I never used to apply anything on my skin for such a long time, and my skin used to be chappy. I used to be anti- products and let my skin do the job. After having a skincare routine now, it actually works well for my skin. I have not added retinoids to it yet, but so far everything has worked really well.
You will absolutely need a moisturiser when you start perimenopause and beyond. The dryness and flaking was so awful at one stage I felt like rubbing lard on my face.
I had the same problem until I got on bio identical hormone replacement estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.. I do the pellets and it has worked wonders for all things post menopause related. Dry skin and hair , low energy, sleep problems, loosing muscle mass etc.. I highly recommend bio identical hormones no matter what form you choose to take them in.. pellets, pills ,creams or patches

I use castor oil mixed with rosehip anf sweet almond oil with a few drops of palmrosa heliscryum and frankincense essential oil. Thats done wonders for my skin. I make my oil up and i have to do several bottles because everyone who tries it says its the best product they have ever used. I should start charging but they cost me about 70p a bottle to make. I live in an extremely dry environment. When I moved here, I got nosebleeds because of the lack of humidity and you can feel the skin's moisture get sucked right out of you. When it gets cold and the humidity drops even further, my skin is on fire in the shower. Combination of hard water off the mountains and general lack of humidity. Itchy as hell till I get used to the change in temperature. So I would say the part about not needing moisturizer is heavily dependent on where you live. In the summer, I need very little but in the winter I need it.
@@earlhildebrand Ever considered buying a humidifier to use at night? Where I live is ultra humid. The summers are brutal. Not hard to avoid the sun here. But if you are in it all your sunscreen melts away. It’s so irritating. But I started having melasma in my mid 30 ‘s when I got pregnant. So hormones and sun made me work at it.
@@earlhildebrand I’m 67 and live in the same type of environment. Apply a squirt of castor oil along with moisturizer after your shower at night. I don't know why but I have never suffered from acne even in my teens, until recently I never used creams or soap on my face my morning routine was washing face in cold running water dabbing dry then using witch hazel as a toner after, I have never worn make-up either. But a few years ago I noticed my skin was getting very dry & researched into natural products for dry skin, after a few years of experimenting with various oils etc on their own or mixed I finally found what works best for my skin, now I mix equal amounts of pure aloe gel & organic castor oil together, this mix I also use on hands & all over body after a shower or bath too, but everyone's skin is different so I'm not saying this mix will work on all skin

I am 72. I went to see a consultant for arthritis & he was shocked when he asked my age - he said he thought I was about 50. My secret is genetic. My dad never got wrinkles or any sign of aging. He died age 70. I look after my skin but never used soap on my face after I was 30 as my skin was so dry, it would flake!
I have already said this to many of my skincare interested friends. Three I know started tretinoin for a while after retinol and they won’t go back. Respect your vids❤
I never heard of Tretinoin until I turned 50. Now I’m starting to use it. Hopefully not too late. No wrinkles but I have melasma from living on the beach as a child with no sunscreen but I started using sunscreen religiously at about 16 and it helped as far as wrinkles.
I have atopic dermatitis and moisturizing is the most important thing for me as at the genetic level my skin naturally lacks some components to have a strong skin barrier , so it is important to some people
Yes, I think points like this are sorely missing from this video. Not everyone’s bodies. Make things exactly the way they’re supposed to be made for us to get the things that we need.… And I also never really understood why we can’t just put straight vitamin A on the skin without it being converted first to the retinoid. Everything about those products are counterintuitive to me. Do what works for you :-)
True. I have the same issue and using the right moisturizer help me a lot. I used body cream from Eucerin a lot but now I found another good one called Curel. When my skin is terrible dry and inflamed then oil is better than cream as it doesn't burn my skin. My skin has improved so much & no more itchy dry sensitive skin. I think ceramide is the key ingredients for me but not all products with ceramide gives the same effect on my skin. Cerave is not working well for me.
False, i had eczema for decades until i stopped using steroid creams. It got worse for a while, then it cleared up and never returned. You don't have eczema, your skin is addicted to exogenous glucocorticoids and is in a never-ending cycle of withdrawal symptoms. It is called topical steroid withdrawal (TSW).
@creativesolutions902 you could put retinol on the skin, but that is the inactive form. It must be converted first to retinoic acid to be active and speed up the cell cycle and this conversion is a rate limiting step, only little can be converted in the skin.
I use tretinoine for more 2 decades now, I can tell you guys this is the best anti aging cream on the market no doubt about it and in France I buy it with prescription at my local pharmacy for 4 euros. 👌
I too started young. I was 19 and now I am 60. People think I have botox in my forehead. I have no wrinkles. I did wear hats when I was outside and used sunscreen but it was retin-A that prevented the wrinkles and gave me smooth skin.

You cannot deny that dry skin is a type though. People might not start skincare as a child. Most of us begin it in early or later teens. And by then if we are not well hydrated, dry skin happens to take over. So yeah supplementing moisture is necessary albeit with a good quality moisturizer.

If you massage your face thoroughly with ALMOND oil and then wipe it off with a soft face towel, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water it will deep cleanse your skin without stripping or drying it, and it rinses off completely as long as you wipe it off first with the towel.

It doesn't matter if you still consuming so much sugar. Actually by reducing sugar and even better get rid of that, it's gonna improve overall health and skin. But again sugar is addicting (including carbs because it's gonna processed as sugar in our body) so yeah it's hard and it's everywhere.
in my opinion long hot water baths have done something to my body to make it age slowly, i don't know what the process is that happens but my guess is fats in the Arteries are liquefied at the higher temp clearing my veins and Arteries and that the heat does something to move the fluids in my body
That's an interesting take. I keep hearing the contrary about long hot showers, and their implications on stripping the oils, or something along those lines. You have stated a completely different angle here, and it makes me question the certified advisory boards out there. Would you mind collating more scientific bits to your proposed hypothesis??
My skin gets very irritated and dry with just the retinoid. I believe Moisturizers are essential and there’s enough evidence to support this. I apply moisturizer before and after applying the retinoid, at night. I apply moisturizer and sunscreen during the day. Rest of your video made sense, thank you for being so honest
I believe people are different and so are the needs of the skin. A thirty year old asian has a different skin than a sixty year old European. I don't believe in costly chemical products but in castor oil, coconut oil, Aloe vera for example. I doubt, that one product is good for all skin types
My problem with this, is that it increases cell turnover. And skin cells have limited renewal abilities. Thus while it might get results in the short term seems like it is increasing rate of aging via telomere loss.
I’m in esthetics school, and although they teach about hydration and moisture (difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin) , it doesn’t make sense to me why we are using lotions and potions when they also teach hydration comes from the Basel layer, and the top layer of skin is dead keratin. So, it’s apparent that procedures such as dermaplaning, derma needling, and chemical peels are essentially the only things that build collagen, and lotions are just surface level moisture, and not effective at reversing aging.
Marada tinted spf 50 has been amazing for my skin. Used all different ones but that one has stem cells and doesn't cause acne. I use it as a moisturizer and makeup. Its more natural.

Dear Dr.Abs, I live in Belgium where the sale of Tretinoin. If it was for valid medical reasons, fine but clearly it's not. After watching this video, I cannot help but think that as tretinoin is basically the holy grail of skin treatments, there literally is no need for anything else so the multi-billion dollar cosmetics industries would take a massive hit if it was more widely available. Great video, any recommendations on choosing between azelaic , tranexamaic, glycolic, salicilyic acid for hyperpigmentation and PIH? Ive heard hydroquinone can cause rebound hyperpigmentation and maybe glycolic can be a bit too harsh when tret is already in the routine?
What a brilliant question. Menopause has a massive effect on skin! Ideally, you looked at skincare but also things like menopause treatment in the form of hormone replacement therapy
Start with a light retinol. Don’t jump to Retin A. Use sunscreen daily. That’s the way to do it. And if you’re under 30, all you really need is SPF, unless you have acne. Acne will improve with a retinoid. Try Differin. You can buy it at a drugstore or online. It’s very gentle. Good luck.
OST irritations come from improper usage. Start with the lowest percentage prescription. You only need 1 pea size amount for your entire face. Apply it on top of a good moisturizer, and then layer over the tretinol with an occlusive moisturizer to seal it in. Start 1x a week, then slowly increase to 2x a week after 3 or 4 weeks of use. Keep slowly increasing how many nights a week you can use comfortably.

Nope. Without wishing to go into an essay, there are plenty of scientific papers to prove the opposite. I have patients in dry climates without moisturiser and without dry skin. Glad the video gave you something to think about though, thanks for commenting 😄

Yeah I wouldn't consider an oil a moisturizer personally. Even though they may have the oils, it's the HA that can draw water away from the dermis too so always bear that in mind. Try the squalane for a while instead of LRP after tret and you may be pleasantly surprised. It's so much cheaper too ;) For GFs it's practically impossible for companies to guarantee that they don't switch on oncogenes which would be extremely dangerous. Check out TNS Allergan Skinmedica for all the lawsuit info because of the cancer risks that were concealed.
I totally agree. After coming to Germany, finding a moisturizer for my sensitive acne prone dehydrated skin was the best decision ever. I never believed in using a moisturizer earlier because back in India my skin was oily. I don't think he gets the point that research always has its boundaries and limitations and isn't always accurate since it isn't capable of covering subjects having variant skin types based on the climate

ZO is a not-bad brand but it's still retinol at the end of the day. Regardless of brand, retinol is still retinol - it's still an ingredient that can't compete with something like retinoic acid in the short and medium term. When you're looking at long term like years and years ahead, then they might have you looking roughly similiar by then. I'd never use retinol on myself and I have several colleagues I prescribe tret for who are in the same boat. There's a link in the description for tret prescription from myself if you wish - doesn't cost anything and only takes a deposit which is counted as part of the tret purchase. Hope that helps :)

When you start to use retinol please use the sandwich system and don't forget your sunscreen

If you massage your face thoroughly with ALMOND oil and then wipe it off with a soft face towel, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water it will deep cleanse your skin without stripping or drying it, and it rinses off completely as long as you wipe it off first with the towel.

Thus while it might get results in the short term seems like it is increasing rate of aging via telomere loss.
castor oil is amazing.

Then add a moisturizing cream before you apply it

Yeah I wouldn't consider an oil a moisturizer personally. Even though they may have the oils, it's the HA that can draw water away from the dermis too so always bear that in mind. Try the squalane for a while instead of LRP after tret and you may be pleasantly surprised. It's so much cheaper too ;)

I totally agree. After coming to Germany, finding a moisturizer for my sensitive acne prone dehydrated skin was the best decision ever. It truly is the only cream @ 1% that takes care of EVERYTHING for me and I will NEVER stop using it and I'm now 49yrs old!...
Tell the full truth. Tell that you use moisturizer and sunscreen along with it with a mild cleanser.
@@Thoughtsofanetizen I apologize, yes I obviously cleanse my skin with a gentle and sulfate free cleanser to clean my face, neck and skin. I also use a moisture rich hyaluronic based moisture and a mineral sunscreen. My point was to simply point out that there is one single "prescription cream" that truly does it all! Sorry for any confusion, but yes, wash my skin, treat my skin with Tretinoin and moisturize and sunscreen as needed!... 😊
@@_A4A I know. But some random person will think that just use tretinoin like nivea cream. The first dermatologist I had seen done that to me. Without even giving me a mousturizer she gave me a 0.025 tretinoin. Ruined my skin entirely. That's y I said this. If been harsh I'm sorry
Hey Doc, thanks for the great concise video!
Will this help in getting rid of blackheads and oily skin too?
Love you videos, very informative and not too long! I'll consult with you.
🙏
Tretinoin, a common prescription acne medication, can damage the meibomian glands in the eyelids if it gets absorbed. These glands produce oil that prevents tears from evaporating too quickly. When the glands are damaged, dry eye symptoms can occur.
This looks like permanent?
Ty for this. I use naturium retinal because tret is too harsh for my sensitive skin. Is that a good product?
Azaelic acid is a bit of a miracle for rosacea
Also if your a white make having really white skin just doesn’t look sexually attractive
I’m sorry I dont see a link for anything….i just wanted to purchase some trentinoin without having to go to a dermatologist. Thanks
The only way to get tret without going to a dermatologist is to subscribe to an online provider like Curology, Agency, etc.
Adapheline , niacinimide+1% vit c , spf 50
🔥
Could u pls review Rajani led mask it claims to evenly distribute light

Best BANG for your buck routine- Am- cleanse, timeless vitamin c serum, Laroche Possy moisterizer w spf 30. PM- Cleanse, Snail Mucin serum, Tretinoin. 💪
Quite similar to mine. How it differs: I don’t cleanse in the am and I use Timeless CoQ10 after their 20% Vit C. Then one of my (many!) Asian sunscreens (containing Tinosorb S). Evening routine same as yours with CosRx snail mucin but might sub retinaldehyde or adapalene for the tret. Might layer Naturium azaleic acid over the tret/ret/adap.
Edit: all my sunscreens are 50 SPF as I live in San Diego and it is sunny most of the year (except May Gray and June Gloom, lol). Sunscreen EVERY day. This is a non-negotiable. Color science powder in the car if I need a little “dusting” on top.😊
I use 1% retinol By zo, radical night repair , any good ? Do I need to go to a derm to get tretenoin ?
ZO is a not-bad brand but it's still retinol at the end of the day. Regardless of brand, retinol is still retinol - it's still an ingredient that can't compete with something like retinoic acid in the short and medium term. When you're looking at long term like years and years ahead, then they might have you looking roughly similiar by then. I'd never use retinol on myself and I have several colleagues I prescribe tret for who are in the same boat. There's a link in the description for tret prescription from myself if you wish - doesn't cost anything and only takes a deposit which is counted as part of the tret purchase. Hope that helps :)
I would have liked you to tell us what Retinoid products you would suggest?
