I love the way you didn't cut out or speed things up .... even when you were looking at what to unplug from the back of screen, too many people edit these vids and miss out that certain bit that leads to me breaking a clip or not connecting something ....I don't need any more help with ballsing things up I can do that alone 🤣 Cheers mate but it's well beyond my head but enjoyed it . Great video, thanks! It's a good option for NBT, but sound quality is poor, i guess that internal DAC is not good enough. It's not an option for EVO, as it doesn't have AUX input and they want you to take out the line audio from the dashboard and connect it to the front USB input. Not a good deal. I'm in contact with Road Top to check if it could be directly connected to the available USB input of the EVO headunit using a rosenberger hsd type C connector.
Sound quality still not good enough for music. It seems to be a firmware issue, as the navigation sounds good but music sound extremely low. The vendor said they were working on enabling bluetooth transport for the music, which could be the solution. I've no update on that. With EVO you can find out you don't have AUX input and therefore you cannot hear the headunit. If so, you can enable a fake AUX with Bimmercode and an OBD2 interface.@@morganlingsweiler9813
What about connecting an amplifier to the radio? Would that solve the problem? (I am close to buying a Countryman but lack of Carplay and good sound system keeps on hold)
thank you for this great video. i have 2020 mini cooper f56 base model with no carplay. my head unit screen looks just like yours. i want to do this upgrade but i have a question. when you took the head unit out, it seems that the screen can be unmounted from the unit case by unbolting the screws. do you think it is possible to replace just the screen (and the side plastic "filler?" on both sides with a bigger screen and reuse the same old head unit? again, thank you for the video and your help.

Just tried installing this, the cable to the left of the big purple one attached to the back of the screen wouldnt budge and the plastic connector snapped when trying to pull it out, luckly the wire didnt break so still works but its stuck in unfortunately
Yes, I contacted Roadtop and they confirmed I can fit a unit to my 2017 F60. You just need to confirm if you have an NBT or EVO system before purchasing.
I installed mine in a mini clubman F54 2019 with evo system 6 icons but the audio is by usb cable(so i take out the cable from the inside to connect to the front usb port, but in your video you were able to make audio bluetooth, any idea how to solve it?

I got mine from Ali express. Did it today took me like 3 hours mines 2014 with heads up and hk system so was a ball ache. But so far so good, was a slog to do but worth it. So far.
@@Alvarolingua I just did the same thing. Maybe you’re switch’s on the mmi box are wrong I had the bigger screen I believe the first 2 were down. Should say in ya booklet, did you change the fibre optic to the new harness thing? Tbh my car was diff so I had to flick through various guide throughs.
Hi there.. can I ask an unrelated Mini question please? I’ve recently bought a 2017 Cooper petrol manual convertible. Today had a weird issue.. parked up, then when wanted to pull away although the gear stick was seemingly engaging gears, the display on the dashboard that shows which gear is selected was showing N>. The engine would start when in neutral but the display wouldn’t change when any gear was selected. I switched off the stop/start function and it appeared to clear the issue.. any ideas ?? Many thanks

As I either need to take more of my dash off to hide the box or uninstall it all and it took 4 hours and me and 2 men to install this as my radio is a lot bigger and now where to see so we had to do it all by feel, can send you pictures

Is this an EVO with touchscreen or without? We do have one without and we do want to add carplay to our new Mini as well ... bug the description on the Road top page sais it doesnt work with the touchless evo version.

Could I have one of these fitted into my 2016 Mini Paceman? Just spent a week trying to figure out why my ipod doesn't give sound when connected via USB but does via bluetooth - same ipod/cable works in husband's BMW X1 - rang Mini UK but they don't have a clue.
On older minis, USB is just for the charging and interface, needs a special cable for the iPod that separates out to have a USB and has a jack lead to go into the aux on the car.
@@kingllama2325 - Yeah I got one of those from BMW but it doesn't let me navigate tracks from the car controls, have to keep looking down at the ipod to scroll 🙄
hello, the installation was done quickly but I have a problem because I no longer have sound with Android auto whereas I have the mini system and my Android auto tells me that it is not compatible with my phone ! do you have any solution thank you very much
So what I worked out is… the phone has to be Bluetooth enabled and then go into media select your device (phone) and then go back into your Apple car play mode and it will then play
I'm assuming the Bluetooth is connected to the car play unit and not the I drive system? I'm having the same issue at the moment and can't get it to work. Car is set to aux as I have the nbt system. But when I press play on Spotify it just starts playing out of my phone speaker and not the car 😅
Followed vid for installation on my F56 2015 Cooper S and was doing well until I discovered that the big metal brain behind the screen was inverted, It was installed upside down so that the wire loom to be disonnected from it was situated below the climate controls and the box could not be lifted out in order to connect the kit. Did not want to risk damaging my Mini so I put everthing back the way I found it and gave up trying to install the kit.
I just fitted one in a 2015 f55 cooper sd That was same as you lots inverted to this model Works a treat just need to reroute the wiring loom and place the black car play box above the glove box

But you don't have touch display, so it is redundant to pay so much just to mirror CarPlay on your MINI screen. Just get a iPhone mount and be done with it.

F57 is convertible, F55 is 5 door, F56 is 3 door.

You had to switch to AUX input to fix the sound.

I imagine they are pretty cheap from BMW. But in honesty I would just let it be 🤷♂️. It’s not like the surround is just going to fall off mate

CarPlay when wireless always starts with a Bluetooth connection, then switches to WiFi

I got it working by unplugging and then replugging in the cable to the head unit display. It’s mount have been properly connected.
Also make sure you have the correct toggle settings which is set out in the manual. Mine was the first three on for a 2016 mini with the 8.8 screen
