    So, as a tow operator I can tell you that if we can avoid loading your car from the garage or the driveway, we will - that's not to mention we always aim to forward face the vehicle. It just opens a whole ball of wax into liability and possible damage to the driveway. The landing gear (foot) at the tail of the rollback that provides support generally scraps the ground some when loading, as well the tip of the deck can put down some good marks if the angle is off. Your driveway being sloped also runs the risk of making the truck free roll (skate) down the driveway as the decks foot takes presser off of the rear tires. Edit: Also, that truck is about 14,000lb unloaded which can put big holes in driveways that lack support or rebar. Unless it was redone recently you just don't know so best to not risk it when you can help it.
    Now, that being said, homi REALLY fucking up on his plan here. 1st: He should have blocked off the lane you are rolling down into with cones. 2nd: He should have been in the driver seat rolling it down. Your car is pretty much on flat ground in the garage so it really dose not take much to get the car to roll back. I one foot it all the time to get a start. 3rd: Once it got stuck because of the roads crown he REALLY didn't need to bring the flat onto not one but TWO driveways which defeated the WHOLE point of not picking it from the garage in the first place. It could had easily been winched from the point it was stuck over to the truck in the road. Hook, turn wheel hard left...pull. Dude making it WAY more complicated then it needs to be.
    Just to note, its really not Ford Roadsides's fault. They don't own any of these companies. They just have contracts with various tow operations to cover spacifc areas to run Fords roadside requests. Its no different then AAA. Every roadside system you subscribe to just has contacts with various shops (though some AAA clubs run their own fleets) which can range wildly with avalibley and experience and generally Ford and the like need a solid record of issues like these before they can terminate contracts.

    Wow! Good job maintaining a modicum of calm! Good to know that I have to look out for my own car and be rather aggressive about it too!

      If I hadn't taken charge, my car would probably have been totalled, hit by someone in the road.

    If you knew you had to be front-loaded into the flatbed, then why not just exit the driveway turning the proper way so that you're all lined up? Clearly his poor English and verbal cues were confusing, to say the least. It could have been a pretty simple task to roll backwards and turn the car to the left so you were parallel to the road and ready to be loaded up. Unfortunately it seemed a bit stand-offish right from the beginning when it was clear he either didn't want to take your info about the tow points, or couldn't understand you. Either way, luckily you had the extra driveway to allow the truck to re-orient itself and get you properly loaded. In hindsight, with that initial reluctance/mis-communication on his part, maybe taking control before leaving the garage might have saved you the extra frustration and aggravation, and taken a fraction of the time. Lessons learned, thanks for sharing!

    Wow, I would have called for some one else. Was this in recent, or truly back in April?

      Truly back in April. If you look at the video, it's unedited, and I didn't have a sense that this guy really sucked until he already had me in the car and it was rolling into the street. I've learned from this (my first need for a tow ever in my life!), and my new policy is that if the tow truck driver cannot communicate what he wants to do to me in the English language, I bounce them. Also, never using Ford Roadside Assistance again!

    was this because you updated the wrong software to your mach e using fdrs?

    • @ev_kimchi
      @ev_kimchi  Рік тому

      No, absolutely not. Ford's software system does not allow you to flash "wrong software" to your car, only software Ford has marked as compatible with your car is flashed, and they also don't allow you to "roll back" to earlier versions of software. Finally, if any updates require other modules in the car to be updated, Ford's software updates the other modules automatically as well.
      This tow was caused by a defective part that Ford only is replacing when it fails. The part is called a High Voltage Battery Junction Box, and it is the subject of my next video -- stay tuned!

      @@ev_kimchi I’m assuming with your diligence in updating, you had applied the recall update? If so, disappointing that it doesn’t seem to help fix the issue. :(. I have a 21 Mach-E GT and am terrified of this happening while not at home..

      @@TechnicalLee Dang! Have been reading on the MachE Forums that the update isn't preventing the issue from happening anyways, so chances are even with the update - the part would fail. :(
