Thanks for the video. The Ford charger is just broken....and not only on the Mach-E. However, the Twrap product gives me an idea. It wouldn't be hard to 3Dprint a mount for the Apple MagSafe charger based on Twraps design...and still use the right ride for storage or perhaps still make use of the Ford rubber pad. $1 in plastic and some time to create the design saves $99USD.
I don't have the skills to design and print something better myself ... the Twraps owner has said he's looking into the possibility of an optional tray that fits over one of the sides to offer some storage. As for charging rate, I've really not found this to be a big issue, but I guess that's because it's not the only place and time I charge my phone.
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with a regular desk charger, my iPhone just stops charging (and it's not moving) after a certain time. My pixel 6 never stops and always charges to full. Have to wait for my Mach E for 2 weeks, hopefully the experience of wireless charging is good😁
I think this is more of an issue with how Apple implemented wireless charging with the iPhone, rather than an issue the Ford charger. Never had any issues with my old Samsung s10, my wife's S10+, and my new current Samsung S23 Ultra. The new pad may just happen to work better for you because it's designed specifically with Apples mag safe in mind. Glad you found a solution that works though! One comment I will make is that the Ford charger may be more than just a charger, however this is speculation based on observation. I say this because phone as a key never worked for me with my old S10 unless I physically placed the phone on the charger. Until I placed it on the charger my car always said " key not detected", but the second I placed it on the charge mat the phone was detected as a key. This happened every single time wether my phone was locked, unlocked, as well as Ford Pass actively open or not open. This lead me to believe that it may also be using NFC in some manner via the charging matt and the phone for phone as a key? My new S23 ultra however works as a key even when in my pocket though.
Thanks for your comments! I don't know if Ford's charging pad is only problematic with iPhones. I do think it's completely unacceptable that Ford didn't care enough about quality to make sure the charging pad worked with iPhones, the most prevalent phone type by far in the United States. iPhone has 58% market share in the US (the biggest market for the Mach-E), and the Ford charger is a pile of poop with them. There's no excuse for this in a $70,000 car. The wireless charger does not play a role with PAAK to detect your key and start your car. The pad is not using NFC in any way to start your car. Rather, the Mach-E has 12 directional antennas that are tuned to pick up Bluetooth from your phone and authenticate by the token on your phone. It so happens that the antennas are tuned to be most effective when the phone is positioned in the middle of the front, right where the wireless charging pad happens to be. But they're two separate systems.
@@bombading1215 certainly seems like the Ford charger works for 'droids -- unfortunately, it doesn't work for the phone brand that 58% of US phone owners have...
Cool solution, but I also agree, the price point feels to be way too high. I can't imagen the whole unit costs more than $40 bucks based off what the product looks like. If it was leather wrapped I could see it maybe approaching 100 bucks. Non the less, its a very slick product. The OEM car charger is god awful on iPhones.
Have no issues charging my samsung 20s. The only thing I have notice is how hot the pad gets. I think the heat is affecting Iphones and thats whats causing the problems!
Nope! I had the dealer tools to update my car's software, and I was always on the latest version of the wireless charger module software. Ford's charging pad sucks.

Very nice review. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! I'll give this a try. I think the Ford charger is useless!

You just need the Max version, my iphone 12 pro max fits perfectly in that spot and charges fine, no issues.
That's not a solution to have it only work with the most expensive, least common SKU of iPhone.
@@ev_kimchiI think you missed his sarcasm

I have a Pixel 7 pro and my wife has a Samsung S 22 Ultra and we've had no issues with charging in our new Mach e.

Just checking those numbers, each MagSafe charger is $33. We're at $66 without the plastic and R&D.

it does seem clear this is more of an iPhone problem -- but doesn't anyone at Ford have an iPhone?
@@ev_kimchi Maybe no one at Apple has a Mach E?
I’m fairly sure your built in charger needs updated by ford to resolve the issues your describing.

$100 :/
A small price to pay if you want to keep your phone charging reliably in the car....
