This song NEVER gets old ! Came out in 1983 I believe. The energy they bring to the stage is fire🔥. I can’t listen to this song and sit still! I feel like I’m right in that crowd .. it’s impossible to ignore the energy in this performance 🔥🙌🏻
This man the lead guitarist steve stevens played lead guitar in MJs dirty Diana. Like Eddie Van Halen did in Beat it. So mr stevens is legendary in his own right
When they played this song live, the whole crowd was singing the lyrics and grooving just like Hollywood is. There was an intermission where the guitarist was the only one on stage, that dude was making his guitar sing, Steve Stevens is an underrated guitarist. These dudes are old and they're still rocking out like they're 20, Billy Idol still has a 6-pack and he's shredded af for an older dude. It was definitely one of the best concerts I've been to, I absolutely recommend seeing Billy Idol live!
I saw Billy Idol live back in 2013 and it was an amazing concert, they had the crowd going wild. I will cherish that memory forever because my mom (RIP) was with me, I'm very grateful that I got to see several concerts with my mom back then. She was my best friend and we took care of each other, I dedicate this video to my mom 🙏❤
Billy Idol came from British punk band Generation X. With their split in 1981, then 1982 saw Billy release his excellent debut album, and then the brilliant Rebel Yell album in 1983. I highly recommend those albums. Thanks for the excellent upload and reaction.
At school the teachers said he was one of them kids who'd never make anything of himself. They named him "Billy Idle". When he left school he changed it to Billy Idol and became a rock star, first with the band Generation X and then as Billy Idol.
Harvard University is in Cambridge, Massachusetts! Saw Billy Idol in 1987, with The Cult as the opening act. A real fun show, and kinda funny, because one of the spotlights went off as Steve Stevens was in the middle of a guitar solo, and he got pissed off. Steve then went off on a solo frenzy for the rest of the show, to all of our delights. During the U.S. Civil War, the Rebel Yell was a War Cry that Confederate soldiers gave as they began a charge. It gave them courage and scared the Union troops.
Billy Idol started in the British punk band Generation X and then went solo, this song was inspired by a night when Billy Idol was drinking with The Rolling Stones in a bar in New York City and they were drinking Rebel Yell whiskey and with Billy being from England he had never heard of Rebel Yell whiskey before and after probably hooking up with a cute hottie he wrote this song
Do you know the names of the drummer and bass player in this video? All these years the lineup changes over and over. These 2 look like men I've seen performing w Joan Jett. Thanks!❤❤❤
Billy Idol’s sneer is iconic. His guitarist is stealing the show 🤣. Hollywood’s “Not gonna lie, I do be lying sometimes” is my favorite quote. 😁. Billy Idol had so many good songs in the 80s - “Eyes Without A Face”, “White Wedding”, and “Flesh For Fantasy”.
Billy and the guitarist Steve Stevens still tour together, they've never stopped...they have huge gigs & everyone says they still kill it! Billy has hit after hit after hit. He came from the UK punk era in the 70s, then got internationally famous in the MTV 80s. He was on MTV 24/7 & well deserved.
Billy Idol and Steve Stevens go together like milk and cookies. You can't have one without the other. It's impossible. Even better, they sound as good now as they did back then, IF NOT BETTER. Aged like fine wines. You should absolutely check out some of their new songs. "Cage," for instance. Just came out a few months ago, and it's an absolutely amazing song. He put out a whole album in 2014, Kings and Queens of the Underground, that started a VERY introspective era for Billy, and it's been that way since. He still rocks hard as hell, still has that punk attitude, and his voice is like butter.
You have to check out 'Mony Mony' by Billy Idol, it'll make you leave your seat with energy 🤘🤘🤘🤘 The guitarist Steve Stevens plays the main riff on MJ's Dirty Diana 🔥👍
Man, I nearly fell out of my chair when Hollywood said 'The British are coming!'. Yes, they are! And they're loud and proud! Shout out to one of the most under rated guitarist, Steve Stevens, too!
I always thought it was interesting a British rocker used the term "Rebel Yell" and it worked! Billy was king of the punk rock genre. What a great time it was to be young!
Its a trip you guys posted this just now and heres why. I lost my uncle quite a few years back and for some reason before this got posted. i just started thinking about him and quietly laughing to myself over the memories we had. Then bam! My notification goes on my phone saying you guys uploaded this song. It was his favorite and he was the one that got me into billy idol. This was a cool reaction. Thank you for that nice trip down memory lane! 🤘
Billy's guitarist Steve Steven's did an outstanding job playing on Michael Jackson's song Dirty Diana. A rebel yell is a battle cry or war "whoop"used by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Also considered a scream of defiance.
The guitarist is Steve Stevens he was also the guitar man on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana", my favorite video of his. You should see what he looks like in the movie "Sid and Nancy".
Directed by none other than David Fincher...it won the MTV Music Video Award of the Year. The song went all the way to #2, becoming Idol's 2nd biggest hit after his live rendition of "Mony Mony" reached #1.
Billy Idol is the absolute best. He has so many hit songs that are great but what I think many people miss is that he actually he has tons of deep cuts that are so good and that touch upon so many styles. BLUE HIGHWAY DO NOT STAND IN THE SHADOWS MAN FOR ALL SEASONS PUMPING ON STEEL THE LOVELESS SPEED GHOSTS IN MY GUITAR …and even up to his newer stuff over the last couple years. You should definitely do a whole lot more of his music.
I was maybe 5yrs old when i first seen/heard Billy idol and he was my vital idol. Probably the most influential man in my life i still spike my hair to this day which started because of Billy he's the man. Gotta listen to White Wedding or Mony Mony
The meaning of this song is clearly explained in the first two sentences: "Last night a little dancer, she came dancing to my door, Last night, that little angel, she came pumping on my floor" Not understood yet? Read them again... more, more, more. ;) About the guitarist, Steve Stevens, a very talented guitarist (listen the unplugged version of Rebel Yell, Live On VH1 Storytellers in 2001), he performed with Michael Jackson on Dirty Diana. You can see him on the video clip, and his haircut was more amazing.
Billy Idol I'd classify as more glam rock more than anything. A lot of his songs are about women and partying. He was real popular in the 80s. I'd put him in the same category as Van Halen and maybe Motley Crue. Credit also goes to Billy's long time guitarist of about 40 years or so too. If you do more Billy, White Wedding is what's next. If you guys ever saw the Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, he made a cameo and I think they used this song in the film. Interesting timing, because Billy just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame recently.
Billy Idol and Steve Stevens are still going strong these days. An absolute Live Recommendation, if there is one. If you want to look at a Live representation of Billy Idol and his band look no further than Rock am Ring Live 2005 here on youtube. Stunning.
At some point in almost every 80’s straight rockstar autobio, they will arrive at a party, and the most stunningly beautiful man will be sitting at the bar, it’s always Billy..lol.
I bought a few pice of shit cars when I was a kid . I got a pioneer stereo with a cassette player and when I got my speakers , let’s see pioneer 6x9 and subwoofers installed with no box and the amp all buckled in . To See how they sounded I played . Rebel yell. Hell yea!! Love your channel guys!!
Billy Idol is a pretty smart dude. He was just a kid in the punk band Generation X. When they split, he was hanging out in New York dance clubs and underground places. He reinvented himself with a plan to mix a bad ass guitarist (Steve Stevens) with a dance beat like the kids were checking out in the clubs. And of course punk attitude. He has a lot of hits and still jamming today with Steve.
Morning fellas! Wow! Takes me back to the 80s. I really miss that time!! Billy idol was blasting up the TV on MTV amongst other great artists! Great song and great music video guys! Thank you! ❤️😁🤓
I had such a crush on Billy Idol as a kid when I was going through my punk phase. You should react to some more Billy. How about White Wedding, Cradle of Love, Dancing with Myself and Sweet Sixteen?
Louis Gossett, Jr. Actor. Ex-NBA player (Knicks) and songwriter. The documentary of Woodstock, opens with Richie Havens playing a song that Gossett wrote called, "Handsome Johnny." You should react to that version.
You guys are hysterical. Love your reactions. So pure and down to earth. I also so respect the friendship you two share. It’s really evident watching you corresponding with one another.
Fun Fact : Billy Idol curls his upper lip because he’s a HUGE Elvis Presley fan. Billy put out a lot of great songs in the 80’s. Eyes without a Face is one of my favs.
I saw Billy Idol when he was in Generation X,way back in 1977.....they were fire then.......maybe you should check out " youth youth youth" by Generation X......it still sounds great 👍....have to say that they all look like extras in the "Escape from New York " movie😁
In 2018, Idol became an American citizen during a ceremony in Los Angeles, while retaining his British citizenship.[64] In 2020, his daughter Bonnie gave birth to his first grandchild, daughter, Poppy Rebel,[65] and in 2022, another granddaughter, Mary Jane, appropriate! At a televised performance of VH1 Storytellers, Idol said that he had attended an event where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones were taking swigs from a bottle of "Rebel Yell" bourbon whiskey. He was not familiar with the brand, but he liked the name and decided to write the song.[3] The song was co-written by guitarist Steve Stevens. The instrumental introduction, which sounds like a combination of electric guitar and electronic keyboard, is performed by Stevens on guitar alone, who intended it to sound this way. Stevens states that he was inspired by acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke's style.[4]
Eyes Without a Face is his best song ☮️❤️ the Cult opened for Idol once in Dallas. I had passes, and chose to hang out with The Cult and drink while Idol was playing, and I’d do it again 😎
The Cult might be one of the most underrated rock bands of the 80s. So many bangers over the years, 'She Sells Sanctuary', 'Rain', 'Go West', 'Lil' Devil', 'Fire Woman', 'Sun King', a couple dozen others I could name off.
Billy idol .. hmm he was on the ad for . I want my mtv. He was mtv. He came from a punk band and blew up in the video era of mtv and several other video things . His major songs mony mony a cover eyes without a face ,

the " Rebel yell" was the battle cry of the confederate soldiers (the south) during the Civil War, as the rebel soldiers would charge the union (the north) lines they would scream and yell as they charged in order to scare and intimidate the enemy....
Awwww the music of my early 20s. Great Stuff. That whole Album was huge. White Wedding, Flesh for Fantasy, Eyes Without a Face. His guitarist Steve Stevens shredded it and had great stage moves. Another Great Show.
Billy Idol was great in Adam Sandler's movie The Wedding Singer. He also had a cameo role in the movie The Doors and did a great cover of L.A Woman by the Doors.
The rebel yell is " YeeHaa" or " Yahoo" . So if shes singing out that, its all good. They rented a club, invited a crowd and shot a video. Funny with the Prince reference. He and Billy Idol had things in common. They came out at a time when theyre music was a new genre and neither fit in completely. They just came, did their thing and let people call it whatever. I graduated in 84. I was in HS when both came out and loved both. Was a good time to live in America
No sir. Google it, there is actually film of actual confederate veterans doing it. The Rebel Yell was a war cry similar to the war whoops native American warriors did before charging into battle.
This song NEVER gets old ! Came out in 1983 I believe. The energy they bring to the stage is fire🔥. I can’t listen to this song and sit still! I feel like I’m right in that crowd .. it’s impossible to ignore the energy in this performance 🔥🙌🏻

He did the guitar intro of top gun anthem
Cannot bring up the 80's without mentioning Billy Idol, great voice...great stage presence, awesome performer..recommend "White Wedding"
He's an absolute legend and a really nice guy. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's...so many great artists! ❤

worked backstage at his concert, he and the guitarist (Steve Stevens) didn't know what PLANET they were on but it was EPIC..
Billy loved Elvis, you can see the influences here. Idol still kickin ass, rocking today.FANTASTIC.

A must Billy song is Flesh for Fantasy. Promise you'll love the grove. Billy and the gang had lots of swag being from the Punk side of life.

One of my favorite songs from early childhood since I was born in 85 and started absorbing music straight out of the womb

Love Eyes without a face! Also white wedding

62 old and still rocking with the 80s, amazing you didn't know about him.
Has to be top 5 songs to ever come out of the 80's
Man this takes me back! Everyone sings billy idol songs when they come on!
Steve Stevens is a phenomenal guitarist. He, also, performed the Top Gun Anthem.
"It's sounds very sexual" sums up most music from this era.
We saw him live last week for the first time. He was awesome!
Love this one! All of us girls were so in love with Billy! Love your AC/DC shirt! I still have my album I bought when it came out!
80's were a great time to be a teenager.... so much to do and enjoy.
I saw Billy Idol, before he rocketed to stardom. I still remember how incredible he was.
I loved growing u in the 80’s. Even the stuff on radio was good for the most part.
