ok, former gymnast here, simone was totally in the right to step down. watching her last vault before she stepped out, you could tell she was having a problem we call “the twisties”. you literally cannot tell where you are in the air, an you lose control of your twist. that’s so so so dangerous, especially with all of the insanely high level skills she does. she could have permanently injured herself. that combined with mental health issues is absolutely not a condition you should perform in. she also doesn’t owe anyone shit, she’s a human being, not our entertainment. this is just like people telling lebron james to just “shut up and dribble”. athletes’ entire lives do not have to be their sport, they have their own shit going on. you can’t even imagine the pressure they must be under, especially simone fucking biles, the greatest gymnast of all time. people need to stop acting like athletes need to give up their own personal health and needs for our benefit

As yet another former competitive gymnast… yes yes yes! All sports are mental, for sure, but gymnastics is SOO mental dude. I actually ended up quitting bc after while I developed a lot of anxiety (from other experiences as well). Luckily I started cross country and track and did great there. But still, That sport is insane

simone was sexually assaulted for years by the team doctor, larry nassar. she was also abused by her past coaches. she still competed with the usa gymnastics logo on her back. she has won 4 gold olympic medals, and is the most awarded gymnast of all time. all while dealing with sexual abuse and the trauma afterward. she is the last person that can be called “weak.”

The fact Charlie even implied Americans should be competing like russians makes me so deeply uncomfortable as someone growing up in an Eastern European environment. Do you know why so often Russian/Slavic competitors win? Because at as young as 4-5 we're often thrown head first into fields like ballet, gymnastics, figure skating etc - there's always been a culture of picking up kids with potential and milking it and wrying it dry leading to horrible mental health, body image and health issues. That's why you so often see Russian figure skaters doing insane spins and jumps, russian ballet dancers performing professionally at a young age, etc. We get dragged into industries which destroy us and either leave defeated or get out on top while doing miserable.

So, the Kirk Simone Biles thing. She very famously came forward as one of the victims of Larry Nassar, a gymnast doctor who was found guilty of sexually assaulting several patients. Charlie referencing it means he knows the story, but is doubting the validity of Simone's claims, despite the fact that he's rotting in prison right now. Anyway, Charlie wanted to go viral and was successful.

When Charlie Kirk talks about Simone Biles, I feel like he is talking directly to me and confirming all my worst fears about the way other people perceive my mental health issues. I am Russian. The fact that my countries best athletes win medals at the Olympics is great and I am very happy for them. It is extremely sad that some people view the biggest sport event as something political. It, at it's core, could not get further from politics, but some try SO hard to make it about politics (I believe there were stories of discrimination against Russian athletes (I was pretty much a child when the whole Crimea thing happened, so I don't really remember that much) because the whole world, apparently, views us as a threat). I think sport is supposed to be about bringing people together, screw whoever thinks it's not the case.

With how high-level and difficult Simone's gymnastics is, she could literally die if she is not on the top of her game when she competes. So when people like that guy say shit like that, it's like, would you rather her get critically injured than step out of the Olympics? And the reality is that for a lot of them, yeah, they'd rather see an athlete become paralyzed and never able to compete again because it proves how "patriotic" they are. I mean, you look at the Kerri Strug vault and it's lauded as this great moment of patriotism, that Kerri worked through her injury to bring the US the gold medal. But the reality is that she never should have continued with the vault and the coercion from her coach to continue is gross. Athletes lives and wellbeing matter infinitely more than gold medals.

i don't think you're selfish or anything for feeling disappointed that something you worked so hard on didn't do as well as you expected. i was so excited for that video when you mentioned that it would be a long one you were exctied about and watch it right when it came out, and it was really great! its hard to like, not compare your work to the past work you've done and the responses its gotten, but the video was still really good and not a disappointment to the people that watched it. you've talked about it a few times now that it didn't do as well and it sucks that youtube is always pushing you to get the most views and make them the most revenue

Idk how relatable or common this is so idk how much it would affect the number of views on new videos but for me personally, I notice that every time a creater talks about their new video not doing so great it's told as how many people watched it in the first recent days it was uploaded (and I could be wrong on that, I don't know much here so maybe there's more to it) but for me, I don't have the time right away or even within the first few days to watch a video when it's put up just because of every day life things. So I save it to watch later and come back to it within the week when I have extra downtime to watch it and I feel like maybe alot of people do this? So it's not that I don't want to watch the video right away but I don't really have the time available right then. Especially if there's alot of content/videos/podcasts etc I want to consume and get around to. Idk guess my point is it makes me sad when content creators say this and get bummed out because I'm like give it more time. Us lil every day people will catch up and get to it I swear. We love you lol Check it in like a week or two not the first two days? Idk just my thoughts every time I hear this.

heres some good advice i taught myself in regards to always feeling embarrassed in social settings: no one cares, like at all. its something i still struggle with but people arent watching you constantly and judging you so its okay to just be normal and not second guess every move you make. lmao i still go home sometimes like “why did i laugh like that earlier” but no one else is thinking about that and its okay to let it go

I'm so, so glad that you talked about simone bc that's something I've followed closely and is really close to my heart. I was a gymnast for nine years, and now as I've grown older, I've struggled with my mental health, so seeing her take this step back to take care of her mental health is so inspirational. but seeing assholes like kirk dude talk shit about her when they've never felt anything close to the amount of pressure she's under and haven't even achieved anything remotely close--let alone comparable--is just sooo fucking aggravating.
it was soooo good to hear you talk about it ❤

I will actually say that your Pokemon/Digimon video is maybe my favorite so far of your vids. I watched it twice through (once by myself and once with two friends) and it was a blast both times!! It's cool to see you get hyped and excited and then CRUSHED and then excited again! Very reminiscent of how I feel collecting cards haha. I genuinely love both Pokemon and Digimon (and 1000% agree with you that Digi is just overall Better) and it was just cool as fuck to see one of my fav content creators kinda geek out about both. I really am wishing you luck with your gold stamped card!! I can't wait to see you get it or at the very least a bunch of neat cards in general

The guy who talked about Simone Biles talked about her as if she wasn't a person at all. The sad reality about Athletes is that they have to reach incredibly high standards, when the work to reach those standards obviously take a big toll on them. It's sad that people like Charlie and even their own coaches are ignorant of the athletes personal problems. The immense pressure athletes feel especially in the Olympics is so big, it obviously affects them the most.

Your honesty of saying your true stance on digemon to Pokémon was pure but you still stayed and gave an in-depth video !!! The card video is literally my partner and I's top 3 of your videos now, probably #1 really. Both of us are heavily into Pokemon and the cards especially, we have even combined our childhood cards into one collection!! All the fun little references (the Puzzle League one got my partner good since they played that obsessively growing up) and the character arc you go through as the video plays is incredible. You put a lot of effort (and money haha) into that project and rediscovered something that brought you endless joy. All-in-all, great video and perfectly timed for you to put out. Only disappointing thing about the video is since I waited until my partner could watch it with me, we missed out on those cards! Love to snag one if you do ever hop on that idea of doing more!! Love ya, Kurt. Keep putting out these wonderful videos, we will watch whatever endeavors you choose to bring us along with.
