I think it's much more pretending God is on your side when you are against God, pretending you speak for God when you don't, or exercising judgment that belongs to God alone.

my grandfather was homophobic for his whole life, so I was really scared to tell him that I’m a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Eventually I told him, and he asked a bunch of questions. By the end of the conversation, he told me he’d change his viewpoint on the community. Very cool 👍

Also God is not Gods name. The name of the Hebrew god that the Christian god is based on is named Yahweh. They gave it the “nickname” God to not wear out it’s real name. Yeah, for real, there is a difference between calmly asserting “hey this is my belief and I just wanna make you aware of it real quick then we can go back to what we were doing, I wanna tell you about it because I love you and want you to go to heaven or at the very least hear about my belief and come to your own conclusion” and “yeah so gay people are the same as people who commit literal crimes against nature and also people who have different cultures than mine will die, also we should love everyone but gay people are bad”. There is just so much nuance surrounding religion in conjunction to literally everything, and both pro-religious bigots and “all religious people are bad” people, both those kinds of opinions people have need to STEP BACK and get some pushback and for their extreme beliefs.
When people do the whole “homosexuality is a sin” thing, that isn’t them genuinely concerned for that person and wanting them to not go to hell, they just want to be homophobic under the guise of helping that person

@@camorangerenthusiast6 Sexuality has a strong correlation with gender, but is not completely tied to it. There can be gay cis people, straight cis people, straight trans people, and gay trans people. People don't "become trans" because of any kind of sexual attraction to the same or opposite sex.
This is exactly why I left the religion. I grew up in a Christian household, went to church every Sunday and read the Bible before opening gifts on Christmas, and I can not express enough on how much hypocrisy and ignorance was in that religion. I remember being internally homophobic to myself and others because of what people said to me and just how terrible it was. I left the religion at age 15, I’m 20 turning 21 soon and Im never going back. Im especially mad about the whole “scare tactic” that they use to get people into the religion. Im very sorry for those who experienced it. I really am and I’m 100 percent glad I left.
As a Christian, I really hate the things you went through. I love thy neighbor, and a lot of other Christians love thy neighbor too. Im sorry that you had to grow up with the crappy ones.

I was never religious but i faced religious abuse that did harm me. When christians told me i was going to hell I wasn't afraid of going to hell I was afraid of what people who believed that were willing to do. After all, if me being a lesbian means I will be tortured forever then they could justify any abuse to 'fix' me, because any amount of suffering inflicted upon me was justified because by its very nature it was in their minds the lesser of two evils. No matter what they'd do even if it included harm it could not be as bad as eternal torture...
The church also focused on 'saving souls' and that dying people should not be given medical treatment and food etc (or at least it should not be a priority) that was not as important as telling them about god because at least their souls were saved.
That's the true horror in that kind of a mindset to me

According to the Jewish tradition, there are no extra words in the Torah, so some hold that the reason it says zachor instead of ish is because it's referring to the practice of assaulting young servant boys that was common at the time.

as someone that grew up in christianity, one thing that irritates me about “don’t say god’s name in vain” is that it’s always misinterpreted as “don’t say oh my god”, rather than how it’s supposed to be used which is: “don’t weaponise God’s name and use christianity to enforce your own agenda”. Like you can evangelise as much as you like, but don’t cherry pick, ask to talk about it, and don’t expect everyone to love you for being an asshole on someone else’s Fortnite game.

I didn’t know if my family had or if anybody I loved had so I was fucking FREAKING OUT, not to mention I had already had anxiety, insomnia, depression, and ptsd by that point (the beginnings of it) so that kind of mental stress fucked me up and sent me into years of indoctrination, shame, guilt, and mind fuckery. I’m 32 and still recovering from my childhood..and the religion isn’t the worst of it...but it’s still a huge part.

Yeah, I learned that, as someone who doesn't actively have any influence by religion on how I perceive things or act, but someone who doesn't NOT believe in any religion. I, like, I believe anything is possible, but don't actively put myself in any of them or do the rituals all the time, although I try to respect them as if I was an active believer. I was kinda confused about that, I would think he should know better if he's preaching it. (Also saying O-M-G, the letters, how is that implying God, he's making assumptions, but some people say "Oh my Goodness" or "Oh my Goddess/es" etc., it's a bit much to prohibit a letter formation, even if the part in the bible was about the name itself, imo, but I apologize if that's incorrect or rude, and feel free to correct me, I am generally someone who is here to be as respectful as possible in terms of religion, and if I'm wrong about anything, feel free to school me, I'm just not super well versed in everything as I personally don't go to church. I tried it a few times, but I mostly stopped going because it was a children's church or church program, and I didn't like being told to sing and dance. I got bossed around enough at home and school, I was just there to sit and stuff, so it got on my nerves to the point I got uncomfortable at the thought of returning, as well as not being someone who was sure I believed all of it, and feeling like I was wrong for that and being pressured into following the beliefs. My parents were lax on it all, and only had me go because I wanted to/they might've pushed me a little bit to try it out, but not to keep going if I didn't want to. I think I went a few times, and read a few pages of the bible, enough to know about the Eden and apple stuff and a bit about creation, but I got a bit bored, if I'm honest. I was younger, and translating words into what made sense while reading through a very large book that wasn't exactly my favourite genre kind of got me disinterested more so than the content itself, if that makes sense.
I hope I'm not being disrespectful, either way, so feel free to tell me off or correct me, and know that I mean no malice.

I remember having a convo with a very devout Christian in vrchat once, I'm bisexual and a Satanist (fyi there are many kinds of Satanists, I don't believe in Satan). The dude was in his 30's and I in my 20's, he asked if he could talk to us about the Bible and I basically said "Sure, but I don't think I'm your type." I was nice about it, I grew up in a family of strict Mormans and Catholics so I just kinda space out during the speals but it's whatever. Basically he started getting mad that I was being nice but still not 'converting'. I also pointed out that the bible he was using was heavily misprinted version and was taking verses out of context. We had a conversation about dinosaurs and I tried to explain why people who believe in dinosaurs think why people who don't are crazy. I said that 'If I told you dinos lived on the moon, you would think I'm insane" he no joke said maybe they did and god will tell us one day... Then he got super aggressive and left after someone said the Satanist was nicer than the Christian 😂

I was raised christian and am now agnostic pretty solely becaue of religous trauma, i remember a similar situation to the one Kurtis describes. I was in youth group i asked my pastor if non christians really went to hell and he said that gay people did in fact go to hell. By then i was pretty young but old enough to question my sexuality (im now transmasc and gay) and i was like "oh no :(". A few years later i was listening to my pastor talk (different guy, they switch out every few years to levitate into heaven i assume) and he said "i have a sister who is not christian, and every time i see her at a family gathering i try to convince her to find the light but she remains a lost lamb" an i was basically like "yeah she sounds like she loves you man :|" and i have so many other stories like this, it took me goddamn forever to get out of church, i lived in my heavily christian mom's house and i was a child tf else was i gonna do
