Kim Kardashians was actually pretty genius if you think about it. It’s the fact that the public knew that it was her, without even seeing her face. she basically made an entertainment empire out of the frame of her body. The entire world knows her figure, so for her to show up completely covered, basically unrecognizable and have people still knowing that its you is so crazy. I don’t even know if that’s what she was going for, but I think that interpretations really cool
I really don't like her, but I guess that would be interesting if intentional.

The worst thing about the Nicki thing is that sooo many of her stans have built a cult of personality around her where she can do no wrong. And also, she has sort of become this "culture persona", and it's going to be next to impossible to "cancel" her for this. People are going to just move on so fast from the fact she promoted anti-vaxx rhetoric and endorsed a white natio nalist...
this has always irked me! theres been a big revival of barbz recently because of her seemingly infinite number of 3 second sound clips, and despite the fact that the vast majority of them are lgbtq+, left-leaning and gen z, (that is to say, the type of people who normally wouldnt stand for this stuff), they conveniently ignore nicki's very problematic parts. for example, the whole quagmire of shadiness with her husband and his alleged victims.. and thats not even the only horrible person she publicly supports. its sad that people awarding her this success because they've tied their internet personas to her (things like heralding her as an icon among queer people, which as a queer person, i cant agree with)

The look was well crafted and thought out and is one of the best looks at the met gala, especially compared to all of the celebrities who didn't fit the theme at all.

I’ve had some really life changing health complications occur to me the past month that limit my speaking. I miss talking with my friends but usually for a convo to continue it has to be two way. Ur podcast has helped fill a lot I’ve been missing by not being able to speak with my friends the same way I used to. My bf has helped a lot but he doesn’t live with me and works a lot. I live completely alone and Ik people poop those who work in entertainment, but entertainment content has given me reasons to keep going when I felt like I couldn’t do anything else. Your job is so important. Take care of yourself and keep doing what u do!

I feel like as soon as Grimes became involved with Elon Musk, people just totally forgot she had an identity of her own. I know he's problematic and so I don't think there can't or shouldn't be a critique of her association with him, but only referring to her as "Elon Musk's baby mama" and "wife of Elon Musk" and then saying "what do you even do" like she didn't already have an incredibly successful artistic career before she met Elon struck me as a lil misogynistic. Idk this comes with peace and love I know there isn't any conscious intent behind it just something I noticed!
i agree that calling her "elon musk's baby mama" is a lil misogynistic. on the other hand, marrying elon musk exposed a lot ab grimes' true character; that she doesn't stand for the things she claimed she did (for example anti-imperialism), that she used poverty as an aesthetic and at the end of the day she was born rich and white and so she married rich, white and without ethics. when she tries to keep her old image it feels hollow when you remember she married elon musk for these reasons. so i think it's fair to bring up when evaluating her art. idk maybe we're saying the same thing lmao

the word performative is being used without any context lately. Like everything is performative, talking is performative, art is performative, the existence of a state is a performance. The word was used at the beginning to reflect people who want to be seen as educated and they care but they actually don't. But to just use the word as if it inherently carries a bad connotation makes no sense. Specially when you are a congress woman who actually does stuff in a country with a bunch of incompetent white men in power.

I think 44:04 was the first time I've ever super disagreed with Curtis. Like, sure - the fashion stuff was hilarious, and I probably wouldn't have given top marks to most of them, but saying it was 'grimy' that Grimes felt becoming a mother was a rebirth for her artistically (other than being a great pun) isn't something I agree with at all. I think that's super valid of her - your whole world view DOES shift, and if you're an artist, especially one that tries to capture their thoughts and view the way she does, it totally makes sense.
We don't know what she was asked, and she didn't say "becoming a mother was great BECAUSE it shifted my art" she accounts for it as something that happened and that it made a big difference - which it would have. That makes sense.
I think the reason I'm making this comment is because it struck the 'once you're a mother your world has to revolve around the kid' issue in society. People who have kids should be able to still be the people they were before and also parent - being reduced to 'everything you say about parenthood and your child must revolve around your child' is so dehumanizing, honestly, and a millenia-long issue mothers have had to deal with.
And in case anyone wants to counter me with moral absolutism - I'm not a Grimes stan, she's got some cool videos and she's had some rad features, but I don't actively listen to her, and I hate Elon for being everything that sucks about Capitalism personified.

To be fair to Grimes, I also had a phase where I insisted on calling my parents by their first names when I was really little. Since I was the only child at the time, and my parents always called each other by their first names, I just decided that was what I should do. I eventually stopped, but my parents were weirded out for a bit.
I still call my dad by his first name just because I the kind of relationship we have- we’re more like friends than farther and daughter- so idk- is that wrong?
@@Gruffalomug it's not wrong, I think a lot of people have been taught that if a child should always call their parents some form of mom or dad to show respect. But some people don't feel that way about their parents, or they don't feel it's a sign of disrespect to call them something else.
