"i must not have it because surely i would know by now, i'm 27"
my mom got diagnosed with ADHD at 38 after having 5 out of the 6 of her kids. she never thought she had it until she had to do research to help me manage my adhd and autism, and she realized that she saw a lot of herself in the traits and characteristics and got assessed a year later. it's never too late to get assessed, and i know that's not what you were trying to say here, but i just wanted to share this because i think it's important that people know that not everyone is diagnosed as a kid. some people are diagnosed after living as an adult for 20+ years, after having kids, jobs, going to college, etc. and that's perfectly okay. i do agree that we shouldn't be diagnosing random people we don't know online, that's definitely weird. but if anyone reading this feels like they might have ADHD or autism and thinks they might benefit from having a diagnosis, get assessed if you can! seriously, it's life changing. anyways, that's all i had to say. have a nice day!

Same with my dad! He was diagnosed at age 42 with high functioning adhd, before that people just thought he had “high anxiety or ocd”. My cousin also got diagnosed with adhd but for him around age 8. You truly can get diagnosed with It at any point in life if you have it.
Edit: and I’m now 18 and getting tested for it bc I show a lot of the signs for it lol

Thank you for saying this. As a woman with ADHD I haven't been diagnosed yet (because I can sit still and dont have the hyperactivity or more male centric symptoms lol) but my brother and dad most likely have it because we are very alike. If I get diagnosed one day it gives me hope they might be inspired to learn more about themselves too.

I think the difference here is that our age group in particular has had such a thorough exposure to mental health education that even if something like ADHD had gone undiagnosed as a kid, by this point he'd have seen enough shit online to at least have a good idea one way or the other.

I have believed for a while that I have a specific mental illness but it's so hard to get appointments and my current mental state makes it so hard to get out and get help, I can't and won't talk about it because I don't want to if I'm not officially diagnosed. I know what it's like to be on the other end, hearing people milking mental illness for attention and shock value. But it's this oversaturation of misinformation and the recent 'trends' (for a lack of a better term) of mental illness in media that barely scratches the surface and glamourises the basic factors of mental illness, permitting people to do this. They just exploit the fact that society wants to cause people mental health issues but not help them in the after math, and then parading the easier to digest aspects on screen and in media. Sorry for rambling, but my point is I spend so much time questioning and hating myself for feeling like I'm making it all up, like it's all in my head, only for so many people online and irl to benefit off it. And I can't entirely hate them when they're also affected by the misinformation and misrepresentation of mental illness. Jeez I guess I needed to rant

31:59 No you are absolutely right Kurtis! The reason why some creators keep their faces hidden is entirely because of the unwarranted scrutiny of random assholes on the internet.
CorpseHusband has also spoken out about this weird fetishization he's received after gaining a following due to his deep voice, and how the pressure to be super attractive so he doesn't disappoint fans is what keeps him from revealing his face.
He's also said that it kinda pains him to only be known as the "deep voice guy" when he's said before that it is caused by severely painful acid reflux (GERD), which can lead to esophagus cancer (which is hard to catch early as well as fix).
It's sickening how obsessed "fans" are with a creator's looks instead of their content. It forces the stigma that you HAVE to be attractive in order to be famous or well-known.
I'm personally glad you called them out for that shit! You gained a lot of respect for that one!

Holy shit I actually feel bad for Corpse because of that. I watched him when he was doing creepypastas but haven’t watched him any time recently because I couldn’t stand his stans and I just don’t like among us. Knowing he has GERD like I do and that the pressure he must be facing on a constant basis triggers it sucks to hear. I’ve had my GERD triggered by stress and that shit beyond sucks. It’s so sad to see obsessive fans be the ones to hurt the one they idolize the most without even realizing it, then attacking and harassing anyone that calls them out instead of genuinely reflecting on themselves and their behavior.

@@Polyeurythane You make a good point about stans refusing to reflect.
The reason why they don't sit back and think critically about their behavior is because most of them are young.
I was lucky to be a wise, self-aware kid (though it was caused by trauma so.. not that lucky ig?). Unfortunately, not every kid is gonna be as aware.
A lot of them turn to artists (whether it be art or music) or entertainers. Because they will find these creators during their puberty years, they tend to REALLY stick to that person, and in turn, idolize them.
To insult their behavior is to insult their creator, and vice versa.
It's hard being a kid. I can't blame them for feeling hurt.
But that's why we must be kind and educate them on why this behavior is wrong, instead of just "calling them out". Well, if that makes sense lol.

Kurtis Conner was an English mathematician, physicist, astronomer, alchemist, theologian, and author (described in his time as a "natural philosopher") widely recognised as one of the greatest mathematicians, King of England and King of Ireland, and King of Scotland as James VII from the death of his elder brother. He was a key figure in the philosophical revolution known as the Enlightenment. His book Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), first published in 1687, established classical mechanics. Newton also made seminal contributions to optics, and shares credit with German mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz for developing infinitesimal calculus. He is know to be a wood the bar though is not that the knot could be one of the Similar people but He is just a different one and He’s and he 👋 like that one. #Jibberish

I agree that people trying to diagnose you without knowing you sounds super annoying but your age really got nothing to do with getting diagnosed with ADHD, just saying this in case someone Kurtis' age or older has been meaning to talk to their doctor sees this. Yes, it is often diagnosed in childhood but masking or parents who don't want to bring their child to a doctor about this as well as many other (often unhealthy) coping mechanisms can lead to you not getting diagnosed. If anyone has a suspicion please don't feel like your age is an issue in getting diagnosed. (I mean there may be biased from some doctors but that doesn't mean you don't have it).

      @emubeepboop 2 роки тому +5

Yeah, it bugs me especially when people who don't have a particular mental illness make jokes about it like "oh that is so ADHD" or "that's so OCD" based on random small occurances/traits. Like yes, those traits might be associated with ADHD (like brain fog/forgetfullness) or OCD (like double checking stuff) but the actual mental illnesses are defined by the exaggeration, amplification, or abundance of those traits to the point of them making it hard for someone to live life "normally" (hence the word 'disorder') so joking (especially by someone without said mental illness) about small, generally insignificant traits associated with an illnes kind of just strengthen stereotypes and make them seem like something silly and quirky? Idk it is complicated cause it means there is more of a cultural understanding and awarenesses of the mental illnesses but that cultural understanding is flawed? So the more awareness has both good and bad to it.

Hey Kurtis! Love the podcast as usual. I've paused the vid for a bit but a lot of symptoms you've described like brain fog and needing something going in the background remind me of my adhd experiences. I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD til I was like 23 and it honestly blows my mind how everyone overlooked it over the years. People going around and diagnosing can be super annoying especially when it's unwarranted but I also understand it's like a cultural response to how neurodivergent people often go undiagnosed, especially marginalized folks. I think the key is that we should share resources that provide education and allow people to come to their own thoughts before consulting it with a medical professional.

I was hoping someone would say this. Like you said, what he listed are common ADHD symptoms, and so are some other things he’s mentioned in videos before. I think it’s ok to say stuff like “hey, just letting you know I have this Thing, and your experiences remind me of my experiences. I’m not a professional but if you’re curious about it I’d suggest doing some research.” nothing forceful, because it’s not our place to diagnose people, but just letting them know in case learning they have something and finding resources for it could help them.

"I don't have ADHD, I think I would have known by now if I did"
That's what a lot of people think, but in reality lots of people (ESPECIALLY women and anyone who could be considered a minority) end up not being diagnosed till their late 20s or even 30s, 40s or later bc our health care system sucks and doctors + most people are only familiar with the stereotypes of ADHD. I've heard so many lived experiences of people getting diagnosed at 27 or 29...hell, I straight up wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I was in college a little over a year ago.
I'm not saying diagnosing people online is right, don't get me wrong, but I wanted to shed light on that aspect of diagnoses & underdiagnoses of conditions like ADHD to bring light to why some people may have it and not be diagnosed. If you suspect you have it, it doesn't hurt to look it up and find ways to help yourself tbh.
