    Great video! I am beginning my Camino from SJPP on April 1st, 2023. How were the Albergues in April? Were most of them open? Was it difficult to find Bars that were serving breakfast and lunch? Were you there during Easter? How was that? Thanks in advance!!

    • @simplelivingbigadventures101
      @simplelivingbigadventures101  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. The Alberques were all open (but that was pre-covid) in April and plenty to choose from. We did not pre-book any (except for once) and we had no problems.There are numerous bars along the way in each little village and they are quite generous - sometimes the gave us a pastry or peanuts or something free with our coffee orders - to be honest we didn't really eat in the bars because we were on a very tight budget - we skipped breakfast and most of our lunches consisted of a baguette with cheese and salami/chorizo. Where we could, we bought food at the small supermarkets and cooked our dinners in albergues as this was also cheaper. The times we did splash out and buy a pilgrims meal were good - the portions were ample and very tasty. We were there during Easter - it can get quite busy as they celebrate with parades and singing and it is a lot more religious than the commercialized Easter we are used to - if you're hoping for a chocolate Easter egg you can forget it - we didn't see anything like that :) -We would suggest that you work out where you will be over the Easter weekend and consider prebooking the Alberques as the towns may be full for the weekend, but then again, depending on where you are, nothing may be happening if the village is super-small. Most of all, have a lovely time - it truly is a wonderful experience. Buen Camino!

    Very well documented & very informative, also the fact that you developed your own path/stages. This video comes very timely as we are about to embark on Camino Frances from Astorga, and coming from a tropic country like Indonesia the transition spring weather could be seen as a bit of too cold. Thanks again.

    It's nice to have people make the great effort at pronouncing the names of the towns and cities correctly. I'm frustrated with following people on their trek that either make fun and/or butcher the names and pronunciation of these historic towns and cities. Looks like you truly enjoyed your camino. Good on you!

    Hi Brought back good meomories.
    My novel The Catching of the Camino has been published. It’s a romantic novel with the Camino as its setting. All who have walked the Camino will recognise the locations and Albergue’s mentioned. As well as a romantic novel it also a humorous look at the human condition. Here is its blurb: Avril is walking the Camino Francés in the hope of ridding herself of an inner demon that has cursed her young life when she meets Giovanni who has suffered a personal tragedy. He is in a dark place and needs rescuing. He had a dream directing him to walk the Camino. He undertakes it, but is an awkward and reluctant pilgrim. Riku, a Japanese zoologist, has his normally calm and relaxed nature shaken when he meets Ella; a Bulgarian Environmentalist with a carefree and cheeky disposition - Zeeta, a Parisian poet is out to discover the secrets of the universe but finds the philosophy of a Greek prison officer more appealing. Geordie is out to test his strength and mental agility to mark his seventieth birthday and discovers more about himself on the Camino that he had in his entire life. What do these pilgrims and others walking the Camino Francés have in common? What is it that binds them together, making them reveal secrets to each other they have never reveal to their closest friends or family? Could it be love or is it just the magical charm of the Camino effect? Be humoured, shocked and surprised by this unusual love story that blossomed on the road to Santiago. Available @amazon.com and all Amazon sites.

    Congratulations on completing the Camino and thank you for publishing your lovely video and for keeping on smiling, even on the days when the weather was so unkind. I am not sure if I should tell you this, but my wife and I started from SJPdP exactly one month after you in April 2018 and we had perfect weather. The week before we started the Napoleon Pass was closed, but we had a beautiful sunny day and the weather stayed that way for most of our journey (35 days walking plus rest days in Burgos and Leon). We experienced some very cold days around Burgos, when we were walking directly into a bitingly cold wind, but at least it stayed dry for the duration, except for the morning walking out of Leon (our last favourite part of the route). We could see and hear thunderstorms around us on quite a few days, but somehow managed to dodge them. Must be proof that the sun shines on the righteous (or should that be the self-righteous? :-) ). We must have been doubly lucky, because we heard that the pilgrims following on a couple of days behind us encountered heavy rain and winds.So the message for anyone wondering what the weather might be like, unless you choose to walk in July or August, when it is likely to be rather hot, be prepared for changeable weather.
    Apart from the beautiful scenery and the sense of accomplishment, the best part for us of walking the Frances Way, was meeting so many wonderful people from so many different countries (including at least half of the population of Australia!). We are seriously thinking of doing it again.

    • @simplelivingbigadventures101
      @simplelivingbigadventures101  5 років тому

      Thanks Bruce - sounds like you had the perfect window for your Camino and you are right about the weather being so changeable - our only disappointment was missing out on the Napoleon Pass, but once we started our walk that soon disappeared. We loved our trip and meeting so many people was also our favourite part of the journey. Initially we wondered why so many people seem to do this more than once, but now we understand the pull it has. We are hoping to do The Te Araroa Trail next in New Zealand - but only the North Island initially as it will take us two months. If you return and do the Camino we hope you have a wonderful trip.

    Wow, I love it! I am starting my camino on March 20, 2019 from SJPdP and have been trying to get an idea of what to expect for weather/temperatures and your video gave me a lot of insight in that regard. Thanks for sharing! Just one question, did you find the albergue's to be comfortably heated? I can't decide on what sleep gear to bring, sleep sack (liner) or sleeping bag?

    • @simplelivingbigadventures101
      @simplelivingbigadventures101  5 років тому +2

      Hi James and thanks for the kind words. We just took a very lightweight compact sleeping bag (up to 5 degrees warmth) and a sleeping bag liner. We found it warm enough and we barely used our liners as the albergues were almost always heated - sometimes it got too warm to be honest. When it was a bit cooler we opted to sleep in our merino thermal tops which were a great help in keeping warm. Many albergues also have blankets too if you get extra cold.
